Gum Tree Lodge, a newly built A-frame style cottage is located in the Madison-Barbour Rural Historic District on seventy acres of pastoral countryside. Nestled in woods the Lodge offers a unique retreat for couples and gathering place for friends.
The interior of Gum Tree Lodge is built almost entirely of recycled materials. Reclaimed and recycled wood flooring, beams, doors and siding make this A-frame a charming eco -friendly space. Gum Tree Lodge is approximately eighty yards behind the main house and our wood shop/art studio. There is a loft bedroom, and first floor bathroom with walk-in shower. In addition, there is a pull-out sleeping sofa and an outdoor shower next to the back porch.
Gum Tree Lodge is in close proximity to attractions such as Barboursville, Horton, and Early Mountain Vineyards and James Madison's Montpelier. Charlottesville and Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello is only a 30-40 minute scenic drive away. Within minutes is The Market at Grelen which consists of a garden center, nursery, gift shop, u-pick and cafe. Grelen and Montpelier have teamed together and created trails so you can walk from one place to the other. Also within minutes is Barboursville Gift Gallery which highlights local artists, craftsmen, and unique antiques. We are also directly across from Ingleside Guest House for overflow guests.

  • Where do I even begin- once I arrived at the beautiful a-frame cabin I was instantly amazed with how beautiful it was from the outside. When you enter the cabin you can see all the hard work and small details Margaret and her husband have put into the Airbnb. Things like oils, fresh farm eggs, cream, coffees, and so much more were all waiting for us Incase we needed them. The farm has beautiful views of the Virginia mountains and luckily we were able to catch the sunset on the night we stayed. Margaret has been once of the best hosts I’ve experienced I definitely want to come back again in the future!

  • This place was so cute - we loved every minute of our stay! Couldn't recommend it enough!

    Chrissy2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Gum Tree Lodge. It is the perfect little cabin in the woods. Cute and cozy, but bigger than it seemed from the listing. Margaret was the perfect host - easy and quick to communicate with throughout, had lots of amenities available, and made great local suggestions. Well located to explore Shenandoah Park or Charlottesville. All around perfect experience, and we can't wait to come back!

  • This is a quaint little spot away from the noise of town. Janice is responsive and made us feel welcome. Great value!

    April2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Janice's place was very nice. There was a complete mini kitchen, living room area w/ washer and dryer and an upstairs bedroom and bathroom. She also provided brochures on area attractions. We only stayed the night, so we did not take advantage of all she offered. It would be a great place for a family to stay.

  • Quiet relaxing location with everything you need. They responded very quickly to any questions we had. The cottage was clean and Janice went above and beyond what i expected. This was my first time trying and airbnb and I loved it. Janice listens to her customers and accommodates them. Extra plus is they allow dogs without weight restrictions. I would definitely use them again. Highly recommend

  • Absolutely amazing location, such a beautiful spot. Loved our stay here and would definitely return in the future!

    Jessica2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The place is exactly as described, a unique little apartment tucked in rural Virginia. The instructions provided were really helpful to find the house off the highway. It was a bit cold when we arrived, and the floor board heating units are slow to heat, but it eventually did get warmer and cozy. A great spot if you’re looking to explore breweries or wineries nearby. It’s a bit of a stretch from Charlottesville (~40 minute drive), but it’s a pretty drive. Overall worth its value! It’s a bit small, so suggest being under 5’9” to be comfortable throughout the apartment, due to low ceilings. Would recommend! Thanks!

    Alek2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda was an incredible host - very communicative, and left thoughtful touches all throughout the space, which is adorably decorated, sparkling clean, and stocked with everything we needed. The location is unbeatable and a great value. I will definitely come again!

    Renae2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is one of the cutest I’ve ever stayed in. From the back, off the main road location down to the huge bathtub. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every bit of it. The bedroom and living area is so cozy, and they have games you can play! We spent the weekend unplugged and connecting with each other, basically. They also have a bunch of things in case you forgot anything- which helped so much when I forgot my flossers (and when I got acid reflux from drinking too much wine!) it’s in a lovely location, 30 min from Charlottesville and an hour from the VA brewery trail. Thanks Amanda!

    Kate2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

Ride out the Pandemic far from the crowds in this sweet cottage. Get outside without worry and walk our 600 acre horse & cattle farm and woodlands. We can have our staff pick up groceries or restaurant take out orders for a modest charge.
The Cottage is on a 600 acre farm, with horses out the back door. The patio expands the living space, with its patio furniture, swing, gas grill and firepit. Inside, you have a queen sized bed on one end of the room and a sleeper sofa on the other (but no dividing partition). Fully equipped kitchen. Guests can walk their legs off on the farm's trails and roadways. We have several ponds full of fish, and we provide the gear. Golf cart available for rent. Horseback riding at neighboring farm. Close to Montpelier, and 35 minutes from Monticello and Charlottesville. Excellent restaurants in Gordonsville, 4 miles away. We have staff at the farm, available if you need them. Charlottesville and the Gordonsville area are stunningly beautiful. You are in the country, yet are close to highly civilized amenities (restaurants, wineries, historic sites, shopping). The Servants' Cottage has a sleeper sofa, so it works for families with a couple of children, or for two couples who don't need privacy.
Have you ever driven past a beautiful farm and wished you could drive up that long entrance road and explore, and maybe stay awhile? Here's your chance.
  • Quaint, adorable, quiet, relaxing space. Took this vacation to unwind and absolutely accomplished this. I could not get enough of seeing the horses!

  • Wolf Trap Farm is a wonderful, relaxing place that does a heart good. It is beautiful and clean! We love going on walks and enjoying the farm scenery. Excellent communication and check in make staying here a breeze. This was a return visit and we already plan on coming again! 😊

    Shelly2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute house with fully equipped kitchen that we were happy to make use of. The place stayed nice and toasty the whole time even though we stayed during February, which we greatly appreciated! Especially enjoyed walking around the beautiful property and saying hello to the horses.

    Crystal2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The space is very comfortable. Prompt and easy communication. Absolutely beautiful farm with very friendly horse neighbors.

  • A great place to getaway from the city-life. They even have a game room for you to enjoy!

    Daniel2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our time spent at the Servants Cottage on the farm. There is beauty everywhere you look and the horses were just steps away and eager to greet anyone passing by. We just loved the rustic charm of the cottage and the history of the farm. Our favorite spots were the benches down at the gorgeous pond and the cottages large patio where we relaxed during early mornings and late evenings, it was just so peaceful.

  • Very clean and comfortable with everything you need. Right on the street, not on a farm.

    Janice2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra was incredibly easy to work with; every request was treated with courtesy, respect, and was responded to speedily. Home is lovely and interesting. Beds very comfortable and beautiful spreads on them. We had breakfast in the heavily pouring rain on the porch and stayed mostly dry -- it was just lovely to be on a porch and enjoy it! all great here!

  • This cottage was the perfect spot for the weekend. The entire place was very clean and well organized. It had everything we could need for our short stay. The fully stocked coffee bar was such a treat!

    Megan2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra was a very attentive host and helped us check in a bit early before our friend's wedding. The space is very simple and clean - it was perfect for what we needed this weekend!

    Chelsea2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely home, clean, tidy, lots of lovely period details, a real gem of a house. Everything about the home was really well done, the furniture, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms were all sparkling clean and cared for. Kitchen was well stocked, coffee was provided. Lots of room in the yard for the kids to run around (though it is not fenced). We would stay here again without a doubt.

  • We could not have been happier with our stay at Kelly's place. It was perfect for our visit to Gordonsville. We took care of the business which brought us from WV and then enjoyed visiting the area. The Market at Grelen Kelly recommended was wonderful!. So many dog friendly places to visit. You can expect all sorts of nice amenities and a perfectly clean comfortable space. Being able to bring my dog and then finding a wonderful space for him to be outside fenced in with a nice seating area for us is so rare when traveling with a big dog. Thank you ever so much!

    Anita2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice place! Nicely decorated apartment with plenty of cool touches. Everything you need to prepare meals - just bring food! Beds were super-comfy! Nice to have a fenced-in yard for our dogs. We look forward to staying there again.

    Averill2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly's place is warm and cozy! If you choose to sleep in the king size bed be prepared for a blissful rest❤. We were in town for a dog event and she has a small fenced area for potty breaks which was really convenient. The stairs leading up to the apartment were difficult for our oldest dog, so she got carried up and down! No big deal for our younger dogs. The lack of a kitchen sink was only a slight inconvenience because we did not plan to prepare any meals while we were there. All in all it was a very nice place to stay.

    Susan2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay! Cozy and quiet!

    Katie2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved staying with Kelly, Brad and the pups! The guest suite was perfect for our visit and so clean and thoughtfully decorated and prepared, especially for 2 dog lovers like my friend and I. We can’t say enough about how great this sanctuary is and the dogs (and Kelly & Brad’s hospitality) made our stay wonderful in every way! Highly recommend!

    Ashley2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Kelly and Brad for hosting us! We enjoyed our stay at your clean and comfortable airbnb suite!

    Michael2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kelly and Brad were really good host. Their place is welcoming, cozy, clean, and with special touches. Kelly was really good a communicating about the error that the GPS will to get to the house, so she sent us a text explaining how to get there. She had some snacks and juices for us. I loved that her place was pet friendly, our dogs had they little yard to go out to. There was only a little miscommunication, they turned off the heater by mistake, so we got a bit cold the first night. She apologize the next morning and our second night was perfectly warm. I would definitely stay again in her house which I have to mention too, it has a beautiful view!!!

    Adri2019-10-20T00:00:00Z

  • Would recommend Cynthia's place for the perfect farm weekend getaway. The house was adorable and sparkling clean. We slept very well in the comfy bed and there were so many thoughtful touches from Cynthia (treats in the fridge, stocked toiletries etc.) Parking and check-in were incredibly easy. And there's nothing quite like walking up to the beautiful fields outside your window!

  • We were married on the farm in 2015, and this was our first time back - what a trip down memory lane! The farm is as peaceful as ever and has spectacular scenery to take in. The cottage was clean and cozy and the fireplace was wonderful for a quiet winter evening. Ellen, as usual, was a gracious host and made us feel like family.

This is a private guest suite with separate entrance in the upper level of my home. There is a queen memory foam bed in the bedroom with flat screen tv, cable tv WiFi and DVD player. The common area has a single daybed, couch, table with two chairs that can be used for a workspace or to eat. Full bathroom with walk-in shower. There is a Keurig coffee maker small refrigerator & microwave available for your use. I have 2 small dachshunds, who are real friendly after a few barks.
Convenient and inviting, completely separate upstairs guest suite of my home. Private outside entrance. Outside seating area in my front yard. Great for singles, couples and those traveling for business or pleasure.
I’m right inside the Town of Orange. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so my house is very quiet and private.

This is the best little, tiny house in the Keswick/Gordonsville area! Great for a couples' get away or a midweek stop to take in the surrounding history. Living area, kitchenette, new bathroom and a separate bedroom, (queen bed) all on one floor! Located in a beautiful area overlooking a pasture just outside Gordonsville, minutes from award winning wineries and historic destinations, 20 minutes to UVA, Monticello, or Montpelier. Five minutes from the picturesque, historic Town of Gordonsville.
The Little House is on a 22 acre property with 2 other houses and can be rented alone or with Shade Tree Cottage. It's a cozy getaway with pasture views and abundant wildlife. The location is perfectly situated for visiting the area's award winning wineries, Monticello, Montpelier and numerous small historic towns. The Little House has just been remodeled with a brand new bathroom and shower, kitchen, living area and a wonderful new Queen bedroom. The covered porch is great for morning coffee or just waiting for the deer to come across the pasture. Easy to find off interstate 64 and Routes 29 and 15. Birds and abundant wildlife are easy to spot around the feeders and the rabbits and deer come out around dusk every night.
Gordonsville is a beautiful little old town with many shops and restaurants. We are less than a mile from "downtown Gordonsville". I have a welcome book at the cottage, with lot's of recommendations for restaurants and area attractions, including local wineries.
  • The Little House was very cozy, comfortable and in a great location for visiting wineries. Spotless clean and Midge even had bagels for us! Very cute place and will be back again for sure!

  • Quaint peaceful place. Comfy bed. Huge field of a yard. Corn hole and a bar b q grill available. Cute screened in front porch with two rocking chairs.

    Serena2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Midge was very accommodating and helpful throughout the process. Her place is a 5 min drive from downtown which has a fun little winery and French place (sadly the french restaurant was not open when we were there). The cottage was very clean and peaceful, exactly what my fiancee and I were looking for. Thanks Midge.

  • We had a great time staying on this acreage. Our dog had a lot of fun running in the pasture in front of the house. Lots of wineries around that do great tastings!

  • Great help with directions and recommendations for food. Good central location. Very responsive to arrival times and had the heat going so we didn’t have to wait to get warm and toasty. We didn’t like the shower but everything was sparking clean.

    Allison2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Little house is quaint and cozy. It’s private and serene. Midge has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. I was able to sit on the screened porch and see a few deer and birds. Very relaxing.

  • Martha’s place is exactly as pictured! Beautifully decorated and very homey. Martha is very quick to respond to any questions and she even has a bunch of pamphlets/books/binders filled with places to check out during your trip. I definitely recommend staying here.

    Jerry2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Charming, pristine, and cozy home from which to explore the area. Martha anticipated every need and responded quickly to questions. Parking was readily available and the town delightful, especially considering it's size.

  • Perfect apartment right on Main Street. Close to local vineyards and restaurants. A great place to get away from it all!

    Danielle2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a charming place in downtown Gordonsville. So close to many wineries and great BBQ. Definitely would stay again at Martha’s place.

    Marie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Martha's place is right in the heart of downtown Gordonsville, a small Virginia mountain town tucked away in the Piedmont region. We stayed in Gordonsville because we were visiting Montpelier, but it's also close to the mountains and Monticello. Martha has thought of everything and it is the perfect size for a couple traveling through the area. If I'm ever in the area, I will look to stay at Martha's place again.

“Glamping“ experience on a huge horse and cattle farm with spectacular views. Close to Monticello, Montpelier, numerous wineries, great restaurants, Charlottesville. Gorgeous countryside.
Wolftrap Farm is a 600 acre horse and cattle farm that operates largely as a wedding venue. It has seven vacation rental homes used by our wedding parties or by others just seeking a getaway. We are adding opportunities for guests to enjoy a “glamping” experience. Our Lotus Belle Tent #1 allows you to “camp” in comfort without having to have your own gear. Why is it "comfortable"? It is furnished, including Tempurpedic-type queen-sized bed, eating area, sitting area, electric lights AND air conditioning. There are two shower rooms and outstanding bathrooms at the Pavilion 50 yards away. You have use of deck chairs and a hammock. Cook on the gas grill on your deck or use the microwave in the Pavilion kitchen to heat up your meals. Also, you have shade, and the location is atop a hill where there is usually a nice breeze. The interior of the tent features a queen size bed with 10 inch thick mattress, eating area, electric lights, air-conditioning and heat, and comfortable seating. There is a gas grill on the deck and chairs for lounging. Tent guests use the spacious and comfortable bathrooms in our wedding reception pavilion 50 yards from the tent. There are also separate showers attached to the pavilion. Water is also available at the pavilion, and the refrigerators, microwaves and sinks in the caterers kitchen in the pavilion are also available to tent guests. And the views are spectacular.
The Farm is pretty much it’s own “neighborhood“. The other guest houses are scattered around. You are not so close to any of them that you will hear any noise. The farm is 4 miles from Gordonsville, 5 miles from Orange. You can find anything you need there, including great restaurants, gyms, specialty shopping, antique stores, art galleries and wineries. We are about 15 minutes from Montpelier, about 35 minutes from Monticello, and 30 minutes from Charlottesville or Culpeper. There are a half-dozen wineries within 30 minutes, including Barboursville, Horton, Hona Lea, Keswick and (our favorite) Early Mountain.
  • Great and fun place - we'll definitely be back!

    Matthew2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Cute tent, super comfy bed, and the views are superb. You can sit on a little porch in front of the tent and watch the sun set over the pasture and rolling hills. We had beautiful fall foliage. Bonus: fairly close to a wedding site, so you can stargaze while dancing with your loved one on a private dance floor at twilight. Romantic!

    Heidi2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the mountain and sunset views. We are not camping people and really enjoyed glamping. We will be back for sure.

    Chelsea2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I are graduate students living in Charlottesville. To plan for a small getaway trip in our busy, stressful Ph.D. life, we decided to come here. This trip was amazing and we are so glad that we decided to escape from work and screens - just for a night! We really enjoyed this place, and had a great time eating barbecue and playing with the campfire. The bathrooms were very clean, which is a surprise to a camp place! We will definitely recommend this place to our friends living a stressful life in Charlottesville, haha.

    Yen-Yu2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Wolf Trap was so relaxing! The yurt is comfortable, especially with the air conditioner at night, and we stayed there when the temperature was in the upper 80s! The hammock was so relaxing, and watching the sun set over the mountain was incredibly relaxing!

    Beth2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • A best kept secret kind of spot. Relaxing, charming, and beautiful. Great spot for vineyard touring.

    Ryan2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • After spending a few days at the beach, I needed a place to stay while I visited Monticello. This looked fun so I went for it even though I am not a camper. My trip to Wolf trap was the best part of my vacation! I added an extra day. The yurt was completely charming and roomy with comfy furnishings. The view was spectacular. You are very close to a special events pavilion where you can shower and hang out. We used the coffee maker and brought our own pastries for breakfast in the pavilion each morning. I fell asleep in a tree hammock that was super relaxing. We made a fire in the big copper fire pit where we sat both evenings. I didn’t see a soul at the farm during my stay but I didn’t need to because the yurt had everything and messages were promptly returned. It was such a great experience.

    Lisa2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. We were at one end of the large farm property, so very secluded. My husband and I each had a shower room and bathroom. Gorgeous sunset, accented by fireflies. The tent has a comfortable bed, table and chairs. We spent the warm evening outside. I did some laundry in the large sink, and used my clothesline to hang clothes overnight.

  • Great place for a quiet secluded getaway weekend! 20 min drive to lake Anna and different wineries. No WiFi in the apartment so we used our hotspots which wasn’t an issue. We wish we came in the summer so we could have gone out on the water on canoes but we were able to enjoy it since they had nice area with chairs right next to the lake. So peaceful! Overall, I’d recommend this place!

    Pooja2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I snuck away to Lake Anna for a quick winter get away. We thoroughly enjoyed the space. The view is great. Check in was easy and Irene and her husband were quick to respond to our questions . Binders located on the counter with local places to visit. We visited some local wineries. We really appreciated the eggs and pancake mix that was available for us to use. What a thoughtful touch. We plan to come back when the weather is warm.

  • Irene and her husband were great hosts. The living space was updated (especially the master bathroom) and my guests and I loved the recliners and big screen TV for the college football games. Lastly, I just loved the peace and quiet down by lake. Perfect spot for good conversations and/or deep introspection. Just what I needed! Thanks again.

This ~100 acre forested property is ideal for hikers, adventurers, and families wanting to experience the outdoors. Stay of just the weekend or a week long getaway from the hustle and bustle. You’ll be miles away from city noise, so only the birdsong, the sound of streams, and the wild.
Madison Virginia has plenty of places to eat, drink, and relax. Here are a few of our favorites spots - Bald Top Brewing Co., Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery, Mad Local American Eatery, Bavarian Chef, Old Rag Mountain, and many more spots.
  • This was one of the coolest Air Bnb experiences i have had. Really cool place to stay and great place to get away.

  • Ali's yurt was beautiful! Unforuantemy due to the weather, we couldn't stay our entire trip duration but he was so communicative and accommodating. We definitely expect to rebook when the weather gets warmer! The yurt is located on a huge farm and is surrounded by woods with a creek facing the back. We wish we couldve stayed the entire trip but it was really cold. We appreciate Ali for being a great host and would highly recommend

    Reuben2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • SO. DANG. CUTE. A wonderful little get-away from civilization, and the surrounding town is quaint and adorable. Only about 20 miles from Shenandoah national park. The wood stove does NOT give off much heat, so if you stay in the winter time it will be extremely chilly. I had a ton of layers and two blankets with the wood stove going and was still frozen to the core!! But Ali is great and is property/yurts are beautiful and well-kept.

    Kacy2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Ali’s yurt was awesome! It’s on a beautiful property, perched on a ledge overlooking a beautiful little creek. We didn’t have the time to explore much of the property, but we did follow the creek down to the river, which was a lot of fun. This would be a perfect place in the spring or early summer for a small family, or some friends to come relax away from it all, do some fishing, hiking, or just enjoying nature. The yurt itself was awesome - Ali has it well stocked with some camping essentials, and the beds were very comfortable. It actually ended up raining super hard one night we were there, and we stayed warm and dry inside, courtesy also of the little wood stove. I would advise bringing some fire starters for the stove and the pit outside, as the wood could be somewhat wet. We really enjoyed our experience and will be back!

Share our 1804 farmhouse in a quiet, rural setting on a farm. Enjoy spending time with our dogs and cats or visit our chickens or horses or the neighbor's cows. Admire the traditional wood floors and tin ceiling then sit on the classic, southern front porch or the side veranda. As it starts to get cold, we can fire up the wood stove or rely on the convenience of heat pumps and the propane stove.
You will stay in the private, upstairs bedroom in the original part of the house and share the downstairs living rooms, kitchen and either of the bathrooms. We close the animals out of the bedroom but they are free roaming in the rest of the house. If you want to hang out on the couch, you will have a furry friend of some type. Help yourself to some yogurt, fruit, cereal, bread, or fresh eggs from our chickens for breakfast and coffee and tea are always available. Feel free to put your things in the fridge, we'll make space.
Less than 15 minutes to some great restaurants in either Orange or Madison as well as various wineries in the larger area. 25-30 minutes to Culpeper and less than 45 minutes to Charlottesville and easy day trips to the Blue Ridge/Shenendoah, etc.
  • I have only wonderful things to say about my stay here. When I drove up Ias greeted by Kate and her husband and their adorable dogs. She showed me around the place and made me feel at home. The farm house is old, charming and quaint. The upstairs bed room I stayed in was cozy and comfy with everything I needed for a relaxing night. There was also a thoughtful stash of toiletries in case I had forgotten anything. Kate and her family are so nice and welcoming and I enjoyed talking to them in the morning at breakfast. They have a host of friendly animals that were fun to pet and play with. I will definitely stay here again the next time I am in the area!

    Rebekah2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kate, her husband Sean, and her mother are extremely kind and hospitable. They opened their home to my girlfriend and I, offering us pizza, hard cider, and an inpromtu board game night. We couldn't have asked for a more welcoming place to stay. Oh, and yes, the cats and dogs are wonderful too. I would highly recommend this place to friends.

    Jordan2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

    Jill2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse was super charming and cozy, Kate was really helpful, but the best part about our stay was all the animals! Especially the cat, Cash. He and his other furry friends made our stay even more awesome. Make sure you follow cash on insta @cashthedude to keep up with his life on the farm ...and visit him at Tuckerberry Farms!!! Awesome stay!

    Amanda2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A very cute and picturesque farm! Exactly as described & close to Shenandoah. Perfect for my husband and me who were looking to do a day hike in the area. We loved talking to Kate & petting her animals 😊

  • This place is perfect. It’s so peaceful, the dogs absolutely loved running around. It’s super convenient having the fenced in yard and a side door to let them out. It was so clean and very supplied with everything you could need. And a big thing for us was privacy because we traveled far and were exhausted, and they gave us just that! They were very quick to reply back when we asked questions. We really hope to be back in the future, that’s how amazing this place is!

    Audrey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy space, peaceful vibe, and pretty farmland views from every window. Thoughtful touches like fresh flowers, soft towels, warm blankets, and a stylish mix of vintage and new decor made the space easy to feel right at home. We especially loved that dogs are welcome and our pup loved the private yard to run in, plus walking trails right from the house. Thanks for offering a space for the perfect weekend getaway!

  • This was such a charming cottage surrounded by the blue ridge mountains! It was a beautiful drive to the place, everything so spacious and historic. We were not expecting such a lovely house, with so much room in it! But everything was so cozy, they had most things one would need as far as amenities go, and lastly we loved the yard that our dog kept running around in! We didn’t get to stay too long on this trip, but hope to return soon.

  • I absolutely LOVED everything about this place. One of the best experiences I've ever had while travelling. Normally by the end of the week of being away from home, I'd be missing my own bed and personal touches, but this was not the case at Le Petite Maison! Great hospitality, an incredible space, and the perfect getaway, especially if you enjoy a peaceful country setting.

  • Fantastic place and amazing views and venue!!! Especially loved the baby cows ♥️

    Donna2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great blend of simple and authentic country but also convenience, comfort, and thoughtfulness. Seems closer-in to Culpeper than it is. Lots of thoughtful touches and communication was quick and easy (when I botched the reservation!) My wife's one-word description is "delightful." The only surprises were positive ones.

    James2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lucky star is a special place. Great experience especially for kids to see a working farm. Hosts are great people. Highly recommend!

  • Shari's house is cute, cozy and the location is picturesque. Everything was clean and there were lots of nice personal touches that made us feel welcome. We'd definitely stay there again!

  • We spent Christmas at the farm. It was wonderful. It was exactly as we expected it to be and it was a perfect place to get together with family that recently moved to the area. Would definitely go back.

  • A wonderful retreat. It’s perfect for a getaway from the city with a family. There are no neighbors around. It’s on top of a little hill with very beautiful views. The stars at night are magnificent. It’s perfectly quiet. It’s close enough to lake Anna or Shenandoah. We went both during one day. The house itself is simple yet has everything you need. Super clean. Warms up very fast. Kitchen nicely equipped. It’s a special cosy place. Also the host was very accommodating and easy to work with. She let us check out late so we could drive home during our daughter’s nap-time, which helped. Hands down, great place. It’s a hidden gem! Thanks again Shari for having us!

    Moritz2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute farmhouse!! Very quiet. Easy to find. Close enough to town but not too close. Very clean and comfortable. The hosts went out of their way to build an extra step for my friend who is handicapped.

  • This was a peaceful retreat from the stresses of the daily grind. The cabin was warm and comfy. Thank you for being pet friendly, too! We thoroughly enjoyed the open space of the yard. We spent hours fishing off the deck, and although we didn't hit the 'fish jackpot' we enjoyed it! The views from the yard, dock and cabin is the most amazing part of the property! We sat at the fire pit with a roaring fire, looking out across the lake and enjoying the wildlife. We believe we heard a pack of coyotes at the state park, but we can't be sure. Sitting by the fire and looking at the millions of bright stars was peaceful and calming! We can't wait to visit this cabin again!

    Kay2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The lake house was lovely and warm. The views were amazing. We hiked with our dog on the trails at Lake Anna state park. We cooked a Thanksgiving Turkey dinner with our daughter and her boyfriend. It was a truly lovely time

    Nadine2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • The view of the lake from the house was absolutely beautiful. Lovely home with everything you needed for a relaxing stay. I hope to visit this property again soon.

    Jennie2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Space was cozy and well kept. Kitchen was well stocked so you shouldn't need to bring anything in if you plan to cook.

    Jason2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • The property was originally owned and built by my family. After spending every summer as a child to young adult at this cherished Lake Anna property it had been roughly 20 years since I had seen it, but with the passing of my mother my sister and I knew there was only one place fitting to lay her to rest and celebrate her life. It was heart warming to see so much is exactly as I remember, while seeing the little touches from someone new that equally cherishes this property for what it is. Thank you Christine for making this possible! You could never know what it meant to me and my family.

    Jesse2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great rental. We went with a few groups of couples to enjoy the fall weather, in late October Lake Anna is surrounded by beautiful fall colors. It is a stunning view from the living room windows and the deck. The house itself has all of the comforts you would need, including a smart TV and cozy living room, decent kitchen space, and comfortable sleeping spaces. However, we spent most of our time outside, grilling on the deck, hanging around the fire pit, fishing from the dock, canoeing, tossing a football, lounging in the hammock. The rental is also close to a couple of restaurants, a cidery and wineries. The host was also very responsive, quickly answering questions and giving us lots of information. Highly recommend this rental.

  • This farmhouse is amazing! Everything was spotlessly clean, well organized, and perfectly maintained. Jamey and Jennifer made our stay absolutely amazing. They communicated consistently with us to ensure everything went smoothly. The location is beautiful. The fire pit was a delight. It was such a treat to meet all the awesome animals on the farm. We would love to come back and stay a bit longer next time!

    Neha2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I only spent one night at Jamey's place, but we would have happily stayed more if it was in our schedule. It's a lovely modern cabin out in the woods. Very clean and the bed was comfortable. Jamey was also very flexible and accommodating with checking in since our schedule was a bit uncertain. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a restful stay in the country.

  • Great older house on a beautiful working farm. Close to Madison, VA. The house was built in 1900 and is rustic, but very comfortable. Horses and cows made the setting even better. And the view was absolutely breathtaking. Our dogs were welcome with no added fee - there was even a designated dog chair. Fiona was very helpful going over all the ins and outs of the house, giving us ideas of things to do, and providing us with maps, menus, etc. She was very responsive when we contacted her during our stay. I would recommend this historic home to anyone!

    Ellen2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Such a peaceful place, beautiful land, and a perfect place to get away! We loved being here

    Ashley2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our families had a memorable time staying at Fiona’s country home. The house is spacious, charming, and has all the amenities two families with children plus a spirited dog could desire. Fiona was very helpful and communicative during our stay. The house is about 35 minutes from Charlottesville, making a day visiting the University grounds and Monticello very easy and convenient. Our kids especially made great memories that we know they will cherish for year to come, meeting the horses, exploring the house, the stables, farm, and the fields.

  • March Hill Farm is a quaint and cozy farmhouse in the rolling hills of Virginia. The house is very comfortable and it was so nice to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Virginia countryside. We loved having horses on site just to say "hi" to each morning.

    David2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Finding a place with five bedrooms felt like an accomplishment; but March Hill Farm turned out to be magical, the perfect place for our three-generation family reunion. The kids played outside on the swings and got to know the horses while their elders cooked up a storm in the very well-equipped kitchen. Everything was comfortable, homey, spacious, laidback. Fiona was available but we never needed to call on her. We spent the weekend congratulating ourselves on finding March Hill Farm!

    Ted2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Fiona’s farm house! It brought back all the cozy memories of being at my grandmothers farm house. Beds were all comfy and there was plenty of room! The horses and barn kitty were an added bonus :)

  • Amy's apartment was clean, cozy, and full of natural light. We felt like we were staying in a cabin at the lake. The location is great with lake access and seating for appreciating the view. We highly recommend it!

  • Very clean, everything we needed, quick response to our questions.

    Earlene2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot rave enough about Amy's loft. It is incredibly cozy and comfortable with everything you could possibly need . The views are spectacular and you even have multiple places to enjoy them from (the loft itself; the dock; the gazebo; the fire pit). I really loved watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee right on the water. Overall, I was extremely happy with everything about this place. I have yet to visit the same place twice, but I can confidently say that I will be back here. It's too perfect to pass up

  • Dee was a gracious host. The place is amazing and so is the hospitality. Would highly recommend.

  • This is a great 2nd floor cottage with great water access and views. Comfortable, well stocked, easy to find, and check in/out was a breeze! Dee was a wonderful host, and we'd definitely look to stay again if we are coming down to the Lake Anna area in the future!

  • The perfect rental for a getaway. So many thoughtful touches. The unit had everything we wanted and more.

    Kevin2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This home was beautiful! Check-in was easy and convenient. We had one slight issue and the hosts responded immediately. The place was clean, comfortable, has an amazing view of the lake, and close to several places to go to eat, drink, and just have a good time in general.

    Chris2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very relaxing space by the lake! So lovely in the fall. Dee was great! I made a scheduling error and she was very helpful!

    Lisa2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Dee’s place was a great place to stay. Very clean with many details to make the stay feel welcome and complete. The kitchen is well stocked, the bed was quite comfortable, the shower was so relaxing after a long paddle with the kayaks. There are like 50 movies on dvd there in house to select from to watch. They have HBO but we didn’t watch anything on it. We used the kayaks extensively and had the lake to ourselves. The water level was a little low but that wasn’t a big deal. Caught plenty of fish of all kinds. It was a great time. We visited in October so one night was cold and clear with many stars shining at night but the other two were not as cold. The house is toasty so inside isn’t a problem. The leaves were beautiful and that was just the addition to make the weekend complete. Highly recommended place.

  • Great place to stay, quiet, spacious, isolated and all the amenities one could need. Orange has good availability of grocery stores, so you can easily do some cooking or grilling, great new micro-brewery down the road, and close to Montpellier and Charlottesville. One on the best Air bnb’s we have ever stayed in.

  • The room was much nicer than expected. Warm, comfortable bed, with electronic locks. The whole place seemed to be renovated just for AirBnB guests. The parking was totally fine, just don’t expect clearly outlined spots. The kitchen could be cleaner, but it had everything we needed. Very fast responses from the hosts.

Ride out the Pandemic in the open air at our 600 acre farm. Plenty of distance from other people. We can arrange grocery delivery for you as well. Barn Apartment at Wolftrap Farm - 2017 Conversion of barn wing to gorgeous apartment. Huge horse & cattle farm, with easy access to Monticello, Montpelier, 6 wineries. 5 miles to Gordonsville or Orange; 25 miles to Charlottesville. Gorgeous countryside. Bring the kids and/or dogs. They will be thrilled, as will the adults.
Wolftrap Farm is a 600 acre horse and cattle farm that is also the site of 7 vacation rental homes. We also host over 70 weddings each year. The Barn Apartment is one of the latest "vacation rentals". It is the wing of the red bell-roofed barn that originally served as the milking parlor when this was a dairy barn. Currently, the barn is a horse stables, and this wing served as a tack room, lounge and office for the barn staff until early 2017. We converted it to a modern, one-bedroom apartment, totally sealed off from the horses. But you have a great view of the horses out your windows, and can enjoy petting and feeding them at your leisure. The farm offers stunning views, great hiking, and easy access to Monticello, Montpelier, and a half dozen great wineries, most notably Barboursville and Early Mountain. We are 5 miles from Gordonsville, and the same distance from Orange, where you will find great restaurants, grocery stores and all needed conveniences. The Barn Apartment is fully furnished, and is wheel-chair accessible as well. Do not worry that you are connected to a barn. With all the insulation we installed, you will not hear or smell anything from the stables.
The farm is sort of its own neighborhood, with 7 vacation rentals on site. We are 25 minutes from Charlottesville, 30 minutes from Culpeper, about an hour from Richmond, and 100 miles from the Washington Monument. Once you are at the farm, you will not be seeing any neighbors, as the houses are pretty much in the middle of the 600 acres.
  • Great stay and change of scenery for a business trip! Loved the farm and animals!

    Caitlin2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time here! Our dog really enjoyed meeting horses and cattle on the farm, and hiking some of the trails through the woods. It felt very private here, yet not too far from civilization. A nice and calm weekend away.

    Linda2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for morning walks with coffee. Beautiful nighttime skies. Private yet close to so much.

    Casey2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • My two dogs and I stayed for a couple nights. They had a blast as we roamed the property, met horses and cows, and went swimming. The apartment is perfect for one or two people. Be mindful that this is a working farm so you do hear the workers and animals throughout the day. We would definitely return.

    Kara2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • First time at the barn apartment. It’s really a hidden gem. Absolutely gorgeous inside, especially the bathroom with the nice tub. It was nice to see all the horses hanging around in the mornings.

This beautiful house is the culmination of eight friends’ vision for a more ecological, communal and artistic future. For three years, we worked with a leading firm in sustainable architecture to design and build this house. Set at the apex of a 33-acre Grassfed cattle farm, this 3 bedroom, 3 loft, 2.5 bath dwelling is ideal for family get-togethers and intimate reunions with old friends. Many Blue Ridge Mountain sunsets have been celebrated from the balcony.
As the realization of a life project, we take great pride in this house and the surrounding lands, and will provide guides to the grounds, local produce from the farm (when available) and recommendations for activities unavailable to the casual traveler. Please check the Guidebook section of our Airbnb page for some initial suggestions of activities in the area: https://www.airbnb.com/things-to-do/rooms/21838457. House specifics: - 5 queen beds placed across 3 independent bedrooms (one en suite) and 3 lofts. - 1 full bathroom, 1 bathroom with a hybrid “ship-shower”, and 1 half bathroom in the silo, as well as an outdoor shower. - The light-filled, state-of-the-art, open kitchen features a picture window overlooking the rolling Virginia hills, a gas stove, and modern appliances (refrigerator, microwave, etc.). The space just calls out to passionate cooks. In line with our focus on a small building footprint, the refrigerator and stove are modest. We are happy to recommend the best farms in the area for local produce and a list of more traditional grocers in the area. - Heating and cooling is conducted in individual units in each room, the most efficient available today. Each bedroom can be modified according to individual guest's comfort, but please keep all units on the same general mode (heat, A/C, or fan, etc). - In the "Great Room" upstairs, there is a functioning fireplace, ideal for cold nights. - As a place designed to "get away" from the hustle and bustle of city life, THERE IS NO WIFI. There is, however, excellent 4G/5G coverage, especially for Verizon and AT&T customers. - There is a record player and CD player (with Aux connection) for music. - Pets are allowed, just give us a heads up if you would like to bring one as there are ticks and poison ivy in the pasture areas. We keep a section of the main pasture mowed as a yard, which should have less risk of ivy or ticks, and is a great spot for yard games (we have croquet and frisbees in the silo). Please note, THIS IS A WORKING FARM, THERE MAY BE SOME BUGS AND DIRT. (And cell phones work fine but we do not have WiFi.) We clean the house after each guest visit and mow the yard every 2-3 weeks, but our primary goal is not to replicate a hotel experience. Our focus has been on designing a functional, creative, and inspiring space where we can also host artist residencies and sustainable agriculture operations.
The farmhouse is part of a larger 33 acre farm purchased by the owners in 2013. The farm includes a cabin with a pre-civil war leather shop that has been converted to an artist's studio. Be ready to explore the land considered some of the most beautiful in Virginia! Adjacent to the famous Rapidan River and at the foot of historic Clark's Mountain, there are many fun outdoor activities to be found. Local wildlife includes deer, foxes, groundhogs, coyotes, and a once-spotted black bear. It's a great bird habitat for amateur ornithologists (with bald eagle, red-tail hawk, spotted owl, and blue heron sightings amongst others!). 13 acres of the property are in a conservation program to support native habitat and restore the Rapidan river (part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed). Getting there and around: - The farm is 80 miles / 90 minute drive from DC and it's suburbs, 45 minutes from Charlottesville. It’s 10 minutes from Orange and its quaint old town, replete with grocery stores, antique shops and local dining options. - It's a perfect base to explore Virginia's unique historical heritage: Montpelier (20 minutes away), Monticello and UVA (45 minutes away), or central Virginia's best winemaker: Barboursville Vineyards (25 minutes away). There is also plenty opportunities to hike, bike and get moving outdoors. - Closest towns are Orange (10 min drive) and Culpeper (25 min drive) for grocery shopping and restaurants.
  • If you’re in the area and need a place to stay - this is it! The house is so unique and beautiful. I booked it for a group of friends for my wedding weekend. It fit everyone perfectly, and everyone adored it. Also the scenery is just gorgeous. I had my wedding pictures taken there and the sneak peaks that I’ve seen so far have turned out amazing. Book this home! You won’t regret it!

    Rikki2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really fun experience, sleeping in a silo! The farmhouse was a great place for us to getaway and unplug - no WiFi or TV - which is what we needed. My 6 year old loved exploring all the fun spaces in the house and silo, and the property is lovely, even in the dead of winter. We saw 6 deer on the neighboring property. My friends joined for one night and enjoyed the quiet bedrooms in the tower. The only negative was that they had to go outside to get to the common area to use the restroom, which we knew in advance. But it was cold this weekend! We really admire the owners’ commitment to a sustainable home. The record player and. record collection were a highlight! All in all a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy family and friends.

    Diane2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful weekend at this special farmhouse with great outdoor vistas. It was a perfect venue for our family gathering to attend a wedding. We are foodies and enjoyed cooking, eating, drinking in the lovely space. Thank you being great hosts and for the useful tips prior to our arrival.

    Deborah2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful space, better than we could have imagined. Peaceful but lots of personality. A fantastic getaway spot.

    Kenyth2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location, killer sustainable design and a perfect family Thanksgiving

    Brian2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This house was a great weekend getaway from DC for a group of our friends coming from NYC and SF. The fire pit outside (BYOW) and the record player upstairs were prob the best part of our time spent there, along with the gas stove top with cast iron skillets. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for 7, but would recommend bringing a cooler and ice for drinks.

    Conrad2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is gorgeous and super serene. We booked it for a girls weekend trip and it was the perfect spot to unwind. We went to a couple of cute wineries near by and just overall really enjoyed the space. Would totally recommend to everyone!

    Eileen2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Very cool space in the heart of Virginia wine country. The record player is one of the best features of the house and the house is stocked with just about everything you could need. We loved ending every night by the fire pit. Don’t be scared off by the lack of TV/WiFi — it was great to disconnect.

Welcome! Our charming 2 bedroom guesthouse is located in the middle of our 23 acre farm. Currently the property is being used for hay but we occasionally have cattle (and one donkey).
About the house: Our guesthouse has a very country cottage vibe. The two bedrooms are located upstairs with a full bath. Downstairs you will find a kitchenette and a large living room with a rock fireplace. Please do not plan on having a strong wifi connection as you are out in the country! The appliances in the house are not new- but they are in working condition. We do allow pets on an approval basis (must be house trained and friendly with children). We have a courtyard directly out of the back door which connects to our home (no dogs allowed in the courtyard). There is a 30,000 gallon in-ground chlorinated pool that has child proof gates. We have 8 commercial pool chairs, plenty of floats and a speaker system you can Bluetooth your phone to with music. If there is anything else that you need we are steps away so don't hesitate to ask.
Even though we're new to Madison County, we love it! The rolling blue ridge mountains make for a great sunset. For DC Residents wanting to relax in the country for a weekend this is the place to be. We are close to 29 and located on a private 23 acres. It's relaxing quiet and peaceful. Charlottesville is close by (30 minutes and home to UVA) they have amazing restaurants, shopping and nightlife. The Downtown Mall has always been a big hit. We can schedule horseback rides, hot air balloon rides and other fun excursions for you seasonally. With so many weddings and events our home makes for the perfect location.
  • Sandy’s home was just what we were looking for! Close to local winery’s, only 30 minutes from Shenandoah and everything we were interested in doing. The home was absolutely beautiful, and she was quick to respond to any questions. We will definitely keep this place in mind for future trips.

    Brittani2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sandys home was the perfect last minute getaway to get some fresh air and r&r before our baby comes. The house was spacious, cozy and clean. We loved sitting by the fire, playing board games and just taking in the views. On our last morning we woke up to all of the cows and HeeHaw the donkey right outside our window which was super fun. Loved all the comfy touches in the home, even the extra dog treats and bed for our pups. We will absolutely be recommending this place to the rest of our DC friends. Would love to come back in the summer and use that gorgeous pool.

  • A beautiful house in the countryside. A wonderful place to enjoy stars in the sky. I believe it would be more beautiful in the summer time than now.

    Haoyu2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and relaxing place for a quick get away from the city. Close by trails and great wineries. The place is clean and perfectly described in the property profile, no surprises when we got there. Sandy is a very welcoming host, and was very quick responding to our messages. We would certainly like to be back and enjoy the amazing pool steps away from the guest house.

    Victor2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • You can’t go wrong when booking this place! My husband and I celebrated our 12th anniversary and Christmas here and enjoyed every minute. Sandy was amazing and promptly responded with any questions we had. The attention to details and the Christmas decorations were a welcome surprise. Thank you Sandy for being a gracious host. I’ll be sure to return, next time with my girlfriends, so we can enjoy the pool and explore other wineries.

My husband and I bought this property more than 30 years ago and raised our family here. We once had an extended family, caring for our two mothers, but now our nest is empty. Now we enjoy sharing it with people from around the world. We are almost walking distance to Montpelier, 5 miles from the town of Orange, 4 miles from Grelen Market and 10 miles to Woodberry Forest. Charlottesville is about 25 miles/35 minutes away. We welcome well behaved dogs for an additional $25/reservation.
You are welcome to roam around our 4+acres, take a walk through the woods on our frisbee golf course, or even play a round! If you're a hearty soul you could even walk to Montpelier! There are chairs out in the yard for star-gazing, or hanging out with your dogs, or with our dog-ambassador Snowy. You might catch a glimpse of our two cats who seek the safety on the roof of the main house.
Our 4+ acres are surrounded by thousands of acres owned by our fortunate neighbors. It's an easy 10 minutes into Orange or Gordonsville for provisions, but I keep the cottage stocked with some essentials.
  • Wonderful stay! We wouldn't change and thing and would love to come back when the weather is warmer! Cynthia was a delightful host and accommodated some small requests we had for her. Thank you!

High quality sheets and towels. Old fashioned but wonderful furniture. Think the furniture your Grandma had. Sturdy, stylish and made from actual real wood, lol. Maybe the best feature is location. It is a little off the beaten bath so if you prefer a block hotel room 10 feet from the interstate at twice the price then I wish you well with that. However if you want to see some horses, cows, birds etc and sit on the back porch with some peace and quiet this is the place for you!! We for sure will be back numerous times when visiting our children nearby so we hope it stays the best kept secret in the county so y'all don't book it up on us :)
