Places to stay in Oakdale

Places to stay in Oakdale
My home is near Blackwood 10 miles from Caerphilly in Cwm Argoed, 1 mile from the Maes Manor hotel, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond. It is a large bungalow which has a wood burner in the main room. 2 bedrooms available (1 double, 1 single with a pullout that makes a double). There is a short tight lane to get to the village, I work full time please check for check in times. If there are 2 guests booking and they would like both rooms please contact for details.
Large detached bungalow set in a quiet semi rural location just 1 mile from The Maes Manor hotel which makes my location idea for people attending functions at the hotel. The location is only 2 miles from the former mining town of Blackwood, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond which is ideal for walking and picnics, and 1.5 miles from a large caravan park, 10 miles from the historic town of Caerphilly (with good public transport links), 16 miles from the Brecon beacons andonly 20 miles from Wales' capital city of Cardiff. There are good public transport links to Cardiff with trains running regularly from the local train station (3 miles to station). There is off road parking in my private drive for up to 2+1 cars.
The neighbourhood is a small hamlet in a quiet cul-de-sac. Being quite remote, access is via a lane where you turn into a small terrace, go past 12 terraced houses to 6 detached private houses at the end of the road (so you can as much noise as you like!).

Large detached bungalow set in a quiet semi rural location just 1 mile from The Maes Manor hotel which makes my location ideal (and much cheaper) for people attending functions at the hotel. • Jeff's place is a home not a hotel . As a 53 year old female traveling alone I felt safe and at ease with Jeff and Freya the Spaniel . I love dogs so the combination of a dog and shag pile carpets didn't bother me but some people may feel differently . Jeff had plenty of great tips for days out and local sights . The bungalow is in a cul de sac at the bottom of a steep valley with forest on all sides and a river that can be heard from the bedroom . There are plenty of forest trails to walk and again I felt at ease wandering around for the 2 weeks I stayed , the locals are very friendly and helpful .There is a bus stop on top of the hill with busses every hour or so , Cardiff is easy to get to by bus , a Mega bus ticket can be bought from the driver for £28 and is valid for one week and covers from Cardiff and Newport in the south to the Brecon Beacons and around to the north . Jeff's place is in-between the two , culture and nature , something for everyone .There are plenty of shops 2 miles away in Blackwood , up the hill to catch the bus , this was also a pleasant walk on a mostly level asfalt path surrounded by trees and with great views over the valley . This was my first Airbnb stay , easy to book and honest reviews of what to expect . I already have plans to come back again next year . Thank you again for everything .

  • I didn't make it to stay due to injury but I'm sure it is totally up to standard. Communication with Jeff was great.

    Kriss2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed at Jeff's for a single night, but it was as relaxed as if we had been visiting for years. He is a great host and happy to provide where he can. The house is well set up, clean and easy to find. We had both rooms and found the beds very comfy. Freya the spaniel is also a sweetie, and helped with the homely feel. Thank you so much Jeff and Freya!!

Proximity to the local train station and closeness to Cardiff really helped. I would absolutely book with Jane again if I come back to the area. Recommend highly.

We stayed over the weekend when storm Dennis was hitting Wales. • Located in a cute little town nearby Cardiff. Room was very clean and nice.

    Timo2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 2 nights in Adrienne's home, picked for it's location just up the road from an event we were visiting. It is a lovely place, spotlessly clean, with everything you could need during a stay. We were given freedom to use the well equipped kitchen and bathroom (with a walk in shower). On arrival there were chocolate brownies and sponge cake for us, along with milk (and special order goats milk) in the fridge for us. The whole house is filled with very nice artefacts, many made by Adrienne herself, there is a pleasant natural feel to the whole place. It is a handy location just minutes from the main A470 for the M4 or Brecon Beacons. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of parking space outside, we took advantage of the off road space to park my partners motorbike, I sat in the garden and had a coffee, the shower worked nicely, it was all there, just right, and still very much a home, as opposed to the pseudo apartments that so many people try and get wrong. Adrienne's home is just right for a few days in the area and highly recommended.

    Mike2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Every couple months or so I have work in the area and have been staying with Adrienne for these weeks for about a year now and it’s always lovely to be back. I stayed in the double room for a couple of nights this time as another guest was in the single room for the first night of my booking. This room was really lovely and comfortable with plenty of storage space. As always a perfect stay.

    Georgina2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location is brilliant, close to the train station and the centre of town, everything is within walking distance, including Penallta Parc. Adrienne was a lovely host, providing us with really helpful hints and info on places to visit, travel options and the researching of our family history which was the purpose of ur trip. Also.... I accidently left my mobile at the house when I returned home to Cornwall, Adrienne was brilliant and popped it straight in the post to me, which I was very grateful for! Would totally recommend this accommodation and Adrienne.

    Karen2019-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is definitely my best AirBnB experience so far! Adrienne is an amazing host! She picked us up at the Ystrad Mynach station and welcomed us with homemade Welsh cake. She also provided us with unlimited tea and coffee. The room was clean, cozy, and beautiful. If I come back to Wales in the future I will definitely choose to stay at Adrienne’s home again!

  • The place is beautiful and peaceful. Amazing for nature lovers. Though we stayed for only one night, would love to stay again for longer period. Nancy is a super host.

  • A beautiful getaway. Detailed directions, great facilities, so clean, beautiful views. Couldn’t have asked for more. A wonderful host !

    Jack2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy was so welcoming, lots of extra touches like fresh eggs and get comms. The accommodation was super clean and very cute. Very rural and you probably need a car. The local village wasn’t that cute though...facilities a bit limited and pubs didn’t serve food on Saturday for lunch.

    Jo2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a quite remote place this will definitely be for you , A little daunting first time going up the mountain but well worth it when you’re at the top

  • Had a wonderful stay! Nancy was very accommodating, there was food for breakfast and if you need anything Nancy would help in any way she could. Dispite the weather views were beautiful and we enjoyed how cosy our accommodation was, with reliable heating. I would stay here again is a good location to drive to the national park, Newport and Cardiff. 🙂

    Stephanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Nancy’s place! Sadly the weather was awful but Nancy greeted us from the car with a nice big umbrella and as soon as we were in, it was lovely and warm and cosy! Fresh eggs were left for breakfast and Nancy was very helpful in her local knowledge and helped us to find a takeaway that would deliver! The roads up the mountain are pretty steep but more than worth it for what I should imagine are beautiful views on a clear day! 10/10 would stay again!

    Dan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • After winding your way up a mountain road you arrive at a cosy and comfortable retreat. Views across to the Brecon Beacons (if the weather allows!), you will sleep well, eat a nice provided breakfast of eggs on toast and nice cup of coffee. Nancy looked after us well, gave us a lift down to the lovely Cwmcarn Hotel.

This room can be booked with the double, for a family, or as a twin room The host is a practising artist, who works from home, so the house is filled with individual, unique and creative pieces. The panoramic landscape of the valley provides inspiration and many pieces have been inspired by the hills around the area, and this is reflected in the house and gardens. I provide a continental style breakfast, with choice of cereals, fresh fruit, plain yoghurt, croissants and toast, and of course tea and coffee. Cwmcarn Forest offers something for all the family. The visitor centre provides a selection of gifts and homewares; as well as finding out about what you can do in the area. It is the destination for all you downhill adrenaline junkies, with a steep climb at the start followed by a rollercoaster decline with dramatic views of the Bristol channel and surrounding hills. • I would highly recommend linda as a host. My daughter and her friend stayed with Linda for 6 nights while they were attending a summer intensive. Her hospitality was that of utmost excellence. The girls felt very comfortable and relaxed at Linda's. She helped them with all the information they needed to get about Newport. The girls said it was like home from home. Which for a parent it is comforting to know they are ok. They will definitely be in contact with Linda if they are in the area again. Many thanks Linda for everything.

    Jillian2019-08-03T00:00:00Z

My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids).
The lodge is in the grounds of our home with a good size double bedroom and a cosy living room with wood burner.
Situated in a small village but within easy reach of the Brecon brecons and 45 mins from Cardiff . The local neighbourhood has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor adventures and history. Fishing, camping, biking ,climbing ,walking , paragliding are amongst the most popular to do things.
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. Andrew and Emma were fantastic; great value for money, would recommend and we hope to return ourselves.

    Susan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful welcome of a roaring fire, milk and welsh cakes! We arrived late from a long trip down but we could get straight in and rest up in the warmth. Loverly couple who were always quick to respond. Place heated up quite quick and plenty notes of suggestions to eat, visit or walk. Great escape from the city but close enough to a Morrison's, fuel and shops. One warning is for those with a lower car like a sports car, there is a mighty steep hill to get up the way we entered the street which our Ford Estate just edged up/down without scraping. Is impressive to see but we also took our Z3 and would have had to park at bottom haha! Perfect little spot to escape the world from.

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this place during the Xmas week and loved it. Andrew and Emma are very warm friendly easy to talk to people. On arrival, Andrew had already made a fire in the cutest wood burner and the Xmas lights were on too. That's was exastly what I needed after hiking and shopping. I was on a solo holiday and Emma offered very kindly to bring me a Xmas meal. Been a foodie I already planed my cooking but it was still so nice of Emma. The place is very easy to find and walks to PYF and the board on PYB just about 30min away. It's a great location for many walks of all level of difficulty and kind (hilltops, reservoirs, forest, etc). Andrew and Emma checked regularly to see if all is OK or need anything. I won't hesitate to recommend them. The kitchen is well equipped. Very good bed. Decent shower and plenty of products (hand-wash, shampoo, shower gel etc)

The rooms available are attached to our lovely 17th century inn. The Inn is located in the heart of the village of Nelson offering a warm welcome and maintaining its charm and character of days gone by. We are proud of our excellent reputation with both local villagers and those customers travelling from far and wide. Our rooms are available to let on an individual basis or can be let for group bookings. Message for availability for group bookings. Prices quoted are per room
Access to our rooms is independent to the Inn so there is no temptation to come in for a tipple ! That said we offer great home cooked food and a selection of beers and lagers. In the winter time a roaring log fire is our main attraction
We are located in an ideal position for those wanting to visit Local attractions like Bike Park Wales, Indoor Climbing Centre, Brecon Beacons & Caerphilly Castle. We are 18 miles from the exciting City of Cardiff where many main events are held
  • The room we had at the Lord Nelson Inn was fantastic, really spacious and lovely and warm. We were the only ones staying so although the bathroom and kitchen are shared with other rooms we had it to ourselves. The bathroom was huge, and looked brand new with a lovely big shower and plenty of fluffy towels! Sparkling clean. The shared kitchen was also well equipped but we didn't really use it. Had a lovely meal in pub that night sat next to the cosy fire!! Extremely reasonably priced room and a lovely stay. Thanks so much!

    Rebecca2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely room with comfortable bed, huge shared bathroom and big kitchen with everything you need. Would definitely stay again. I also had a nice meal in the pub :-)

    Jennifer2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • I always choose to stay at Kay's and have never been disappointed. I travel to Wales regularly for work and it is nice to be able to have a drink and a meal in their public house with a bit of company, or just microwave something in the guest kitchen for a quiet night in - also there is a 'chippy' across the road. During a recent visit I was going to be late, arriving after their chef had gone home. Kay offered for me to order a meal in advance, on arrival my dinner was plated and wrapped so I could heat it up in the guest kitchen. Great Service, Fabulous Hospitality - Highly recommended.

    Carol2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • The rooms have been recently and tastefully decorated. All spotlessly clean throughout. The rooms are above a public house but you would not have known it, there was no noise from the pub, even at closing time. Private Parking is supplied. Kay provides a shared Kitchen area for guests use with a microwave for heating up your own food. However, why bother, the pub downstairs serves excellent cooked food at a very reasonable price.

  • We loved staying at Rachel's place. This self-contained studio is warm and inviting, with lots of interesting touches of African decor. It has everything you could want and is comfortable and spacious enough for a single traveller or a couple. It's located very conveniently for Cwmcarn Forest. Rachel was a wonderful host, very communicative, helpful, and inviting. We would love to stay here again and would recommend others to do the same!

  • A very warm welcome, spotlessly clean and a beautiful location.

  • You'd never expect such an amazing apartment with such lovely views across the valley from the patio doors, from looking at the house from the front. Lovely African furnishings, a comfy bed, everything you need all in one space! A wonderful place to stay and Rachel was very welcoming and easy to communicate and arrange check-in with. Thanks!

    Miriam2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was again most wellcomming host, her place is ideal for my biking trips. Great views from the landing.

    Roman2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you get a chance to stay in this lovely place, TAKE IT! The space has everything you need but you will probably spend most of your time sat on the balcony looking at the beautiful views. The bed is lovely and comfy, the fridge and cooking equipment are perfect for making dinner and the shower was beautifully clean. Rachel was a perfect host, present but not intrusive and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay again.

    Stella2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Nice comfortable studio with little kitchen area and very comfy bed. Nice and quiet and dark so we had good nights sleep. Entrance steps into Studio are quiet steep and shower quite narrow so may not suit those with mobility issues. Very good value and Rachel is a great host. Will hopefully stay again when in area.

Ynys Hywel Activity and Nature Centre is located in the beautiful Sirhowy Valley. Listen to the goshawk by day and owls by night, it is an island of its own in a beautiful tranquil setting away from the stresses of life and in the heart of the Sirhowy Valley Country park. The bedrooms have stunning murals of woodland on the walls and wooden flooring, the dinning area where you can eat breakfast is styled after a log cabin, you'll want to book again before you leave....
Set in the quiet village of Cwmfelinfach, just 15 from Rogerstone and 20 mins from junction 28 of the M4

Abertillery is a small ex-mining town situated 5 miles south of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It has a strong music tradition with local pubs usually providing live music at weekends. The town centre with large supermarket is a 5 minute walk There is also a local theatre, The Met and adjoining quaint museum with cafe. The magnificent Guardian Statue is a 15 minute walk. The Big Pit National Coal Museum is a 15 minute drive and gives a chance to go down a coal mine. It is a free day out!
The house is located in a quiet leafy street. It is warm and cosy with all mod cons including unlimited Wi-Fi, state of the art central heating (Nest) a dishwasher & wood-burning stove. The house has a well laid out pretty patio for alfresco dining should the mood take you. There is on street parking with additional lay-by parking a few yards up the road. There is a young children's playground within 50 metres. There are lots of fabulous walks both flat and through the magnificent mountains.
Abertillery and the surrounding area is rich in things to do and see. Full list on the Trip Advisor website: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g1471577-Activities-Abertillery_Blaenau_Gwent_South_Wales_Wales.html
  • Another fantastic stop over in Abertillery at Sally’s place. We managed to get to the Church Inn Bedwelty Road good food and drinks nice place, we did the Brecon four waterfalls trail! Ebbs Vale Festival park and owl sanctuary. As well as partying with friends. We can not recommend this Airbnb enough so close to Heads of the Valley and the hosts are fabulous. Thank you see you again soon. Tina, Lee and the family xxxx

  • It were marvellous holidays in Sally's Home ! All was perfect : her welcome (she's a perfect host !, her attentions despite we arrived too late), her surprise, her good meal, all good things for breakfast, the lovely house, her recommandations for most things to do around. We liked also discover Abertillery, very interesting town !

  • Sally’s house is extremely well kept and clean, she offers a lovely welcome box, breakfast and lots of other local tips! The beds are very comfy and the garden is a lovely place to enjoy a cup of coffee. Highly recommend as a great to base yourself to explore the Brecon Beacons

    Naomi2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely home. We came down for a Hiking/Climbing trip and stumbled on Sally's place. Clean, cosy, very well equipped and with a great little sun trap at the back, the garden made all the difference for dinner and drinks. There was even a welcome pack when we got in. Could not have asked for more, we'll be back.

    Remi2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • This really is a hidden gem! Communication was excellent, the house is very pretty as well as extremely clean and there was even a welcome basket of cookies and welsh cakes. Abertillery is quaint, the Guardian of the Valley is a short walk away and is really worth a visit. On Sally’s recommendation we took a trip to The Big Pit and went down a Welsh Coal Mine. The tour was incredibly informative, and we couldn’t get over the fact that it was free! Book a stay at this sweet spot, well worth it!

    Shelly2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in Abertillery. It's a lovely little town and a perfect base to explore the Brecon Beacons. Sally was a fantastic host - very hospitable, friendly, and gave us some great local tips. We really appreciated the welcome basket with breakfast foods and snacks. Thanks for a lovely weekend :)

    Cherie2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a delightful spacious home. Sally met up on arrival and was very accommodating about a later arrival time. She showed me around the property and we had a lovely chat about the local area. Everything is thought out and provided in the home. She even left breakfast food items for use. The kitchen was fully equipped. The bathroom was excellent, great shower. The bed was very comfortable. The property has a lovely courtyard garden which was used due to the nice weather for several meals al fresco. The place is very quiet, benefits from parking directly outside or 50 yards away from the front door. The location of the property makes it easy to access the Brecons, the Valleys as well Cardiff and the southern coast. Would happily return for another visit.

My home is near Blackwood 10 miles from Caerphilly in Cwm Argoed, 1 mile from the Maes Manor hotel, 1 mile from Pen Y Fan pond. It is a large bungalow which has a wood burner in the main room. 1 double bedroom available. There is a short tight lane to get to the village, I work full time please check for check in times
  • Jeff is an incredibly welcoming host; I felt right at home and nothing was too much effort. His house is in a lovely quiet location right near the Oakdale Business Parks and has plenty of parking space. Freya the spaniel was an added bonus. I’d happily recommend this AIRBNB to anyone.
