Guest House Agae is a renovated traditional house that can only accommodate one group at a time. It is in a very convenient location, about 550 m (about 7 minutes on foot) to Kumano Kodo and Kinkou Oji, a supermarket (A-COOP), a bus stop (Kodo Aruki no Sato Chikatsuyu), and restaurants (Shoji Teahouse and Tororo-ya). The owner is a local Kumano Kodo guide, so we will do our best to accommodate your questions and advice about walking the Kumano Kodo, as well as pick-up and drop-off when you need it. We can also provide personal guides, so please let us know. Prices do not include meals. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

Opened on October 1, 2016!(The second store, Makotoya Ohjin, opened in May 2024.) It is a traditional Japanese house in a very convenient location. It is about 3 minutes on foot from Takayama Station and about 5 minutes on foot from the old town. When you enter the house from the front entrance, you may feel as if you are in an old Japanese house. You can also enjoy the "horigotatsu" and "open-air bath". I hope you can make yourselves at home here.

A historical old house lodge "Kusanoniwa"

Kusa no Niwa is a traditional Japanese-style house with a courtyard and corridors that was built more than 130 years ago. The entire house with a size of 100 square meters will be lent privately to a single group with a maximum capacity of 6 persons. You will find a fusuma, a sliding door with a paper panel, painted by a famous Japanese Painter, which can be also found in the Taue’s House, an Important Cultural Property, located in Nyukawa Town.
