Places to stay in Walsham le Willows
Our converted barn is in a peaceful location and beautiful setting. In close proximity to a stunning local nature reserve and a short drive from historic Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham. The station in the local village of Thurston offers regular services to Cambridge and Norwich. The area has plenty of country walks, great pubs and restaurants, and the Suffolk coast is within an hours drive.
Hedgerow Barn is Grade II listed and has been beautifully converted to retain its original features. The studded beam work is all exposed, and it offers a large open plan living space with all the facilities you would expect. The Barn offers rustic period charm with 21st century living. Many of the furnishings are antique. There are two TVs, one concealed behind the cupboard doors above the fireplace in the living area with a DVD player, the other in the upstairs double bedroom. There is a very efficient electric heating system with an independent thermostat for every room. The Barn is well equipped for self catering with many cooking utensils, gas hob and oven, microwave, toaster, undercounter fridge with small freezer compartment, dishwasher, washer/dryer, iron and ironing board. To minimise the provisions you need to bring the following are all provided in the Barn: Muesli, Cornflakes, 1.5 litres milk, tea, green or herbal tea, coffee ( freeze dried instant and cafetière if you want to bring ground coffee) black pepper, salt and olive oiled vinegar. the bathrooms have shower gel, shampoo and soap at every basin. You will also find kitchen roll, dustbin liners and all washing up equipment, including dishwasher tablets. If you want to eat out there are plenty of places locally, many of them listed in the orange file in the Barn - ask us if you want any details in advance. Bury st Edmunds has all the major supermarkets (Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda ) so if you want to arrange an online delivery to arrive ahead of you, tell us your slot and we will receive it for you and make sure all perishables are put in the fridge/freezer. Additional fridge/ freezer space can be provided on site if required. We also provide loo roll, all towels, tea towels, bed linen ( except if you are using our travel cot when you will need to bring your own cot bedding). You'll find shampoo, hairdryer and soap at every basin. We are happy to clean the Barn and change the linen mid-stay for guests renting the Barn for more than a week - let us know when you arrive ( or during your stay)if you would like this and we can arrange a mutually convenient time.
The barn is set in the heart of rural Suffolk. There is a Suffolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve in easy walking distance. There are two local pubs in the village, at least four dog friendly pubs within walking distance and many more in surrounding villages. The medieval historic town of Bury St Edmunds, with its cathedral, abbey and twice weekly market is a 10 minute drive away. There is an excellent Christmas market here. Beautiful historic Lavenham with its beams and thatched cottages is a 25 minute drive away. National Trust properties including Ickworth Park and Melford Hall are all within a half hour drive. For children Banham Zoo and Jimmy's Farm are easily accessible. A 10 minute drive away is Wyken Vineyard which has a high quality gift shop called the Leaping Hare,a fantastic restaurant and weekly farmers market. There are many other excellent restaurants and in the area.
  • Highly recommend staying in Nicky and Denzil’s beautiful barn. We had an amazing stay here. The barn is beautifully decorated and the hosts are very thoughtful.

  • Had a lovely stay at Hedgerow Barn, lovely touches with the biscuits coffee, teas, milk, and flowers. Found the barn very cosy and inviting, loved watching all the birds on the feeders. Would love to come back and visit during the summer months. Had a very relaxing time, thank you Nicky and Denzil :)

  • A beautiful, quaint stay! There were 4 of us with 2 dogs and the space was perfect. The upstairs bedroom is very spacious, the downstairs bedroom is small but we loved it! So cosy! We spent every day going on long local walks to the local pubs and spent each evening playing board games with a glass of wine. The kitchen and living room space is a perfect size - and had everything we needed. Thoughtful touches were added - especially the yummy biscuits!

  • Wow what a find! This is perfect for a restful peaceful weekend! Great hosts so welcoming, welcome pack, flowers in each room, warm spotlessly clean, beautiful linen, toiletries... and the cutest chickens running around, can’t wait to return .. many thanks

  • Nicky & Denzil’s place was perfect! Exactly as it was described and had everything we needed. We wanted to book a space that allowed us to chill out and explore. It was just over an hour to Southwold which was perfect for us! It was clean and tidy and had everything we needed to make delicious dinners. Little touches, biscuits (for us and the dogs) and flowers. We felt relaxed and at home. We were four adults and the space was perfect for us. Thank you very much. We will be back.

  • We stayed at Janes lovely apartment in her wonderful grounds near her Stables. The location for us was perfect. It was Christmas Eve and the village of Stanton was amazing which could be reached within half an hours walk. It was so Christmassy in the village with a nice pub and a fish and chip shop as well as great Christmas lights. Good off road parking and a warm comfortable room, with a nice TV. What more could you want. Thanks Jane and a Happy New Year. Jan and Brain

  • Kirstys annexe is beautiful. The decor is tasteful and warm, the overall feel is homely and relaxing. Kirsty provides all you need and is great with quick responses to communication. The village and scenery here are stunning and you have Bury just 20 mins away too. Came here for a restful Xmas break and got just that. I couldn't ask for more. Well worth a visit, totally recommend and would definitely come back.

  • Alison and Katy were lovely welcoming warm hosts, we felt very comfortable staying in their modern contemporary clean home, lovely modern private bathroom with shampoo, shower gel, deep bath and walk in shower adjacent to the bedroom. Lounge downstairs with TV was an added bonus which we would of used if staying longer at the property. As we arrived late, a well lit pathway to the side door was practical and safe with off road parking on driveway. The bedroom has a comfortable mattress, nice linen, alarm clock, hanging rail for clothes, desk, long wall mirror (good for doing hair), plenty of sockets and a well stocked tea tray with ground coffee cafetiere and chocolate biscuits, nice thoughtful touches which made it a little extra special. Breakfast laid out in the kitchen for us to help ourselves completed the stay with cereals, fresh fruit, toast and jams, spreads, tea and coffee. We will try and come back when it is not raining ! so we can walk around the village of North Lopham and explore more of the lovely Norfolk surroundings and countryside .....

  • This is a beautiful home that you are made to feel very much a part of. You will have everything you could possibly need and be very well looked after throughout your stay. With a private bedroom, bathroom and living room you'll have all the space you want, but the greatest part is definitely chatting with and getting to know your warm and interesting hosts.

We are close to Bury St Edmunds and an ideal semi-rural base for exploring East Anglia and the cities of Norwich and Cambridge. Our comfortable and quiet cottage annexe provides a well-equipped place to stay for a self-catering short break or longer, with wi-fi included. The comfortable sitting room looks out onto the private garden where there is a small patio containing outdoor chairs and table. The ensuite bedroom (double-bed) has a vaulted ceiling and ample storage.
An attractive conservatory is where you will find the comfortable living room, with 2-seater settee, coffee table and lamp. The TV and radio is here also. The bedroom has a high ceiling with exposed beams, and contains a free-standing wardrobe plus a large built-in cupboard which combined have plenty of space for clothing and baggage. The en-suite bathroom has a pedestal wash-basin, toilet and modern shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and includes dining table and two dining chairs.
We are a short drive from the centre of Stanton village, which can be walked in about 20 minutes. In the village centre you will find a village pub, a convenience store, bakers and a post-office. On the other side of the village on the Barningham road there is an excellent farm-shop at Hillcrest Nurseries, with deli counter and cafe.
  • A delightful and secluded cottage hideaway. Ian and Debbie were delightful hosts. Communication was superb. Many thoughtful touches which Debbie provided, clearly demonstrating the qualities of a Super Host. Highly recommend.

    Allan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were given very clear directions to the accommodation, and information about the area, shops, local places to eat, etc. The annexe feels like a cottage, self contained, everything you need was provided, it was sparkling clean, and lovely and warm when we arrived on a wet dismal December evening. There were fresh flowers in the bedroom, and a welcome pack with locally produced fruit juices and chocolates. Also a lovely patio area outside which would be a good place for breakfast in warm weather. Thank you Debbie.

    Angela2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great space with everything you could possibly need in the annex. Quiet & peaceful area ..... we slept well every night. We had little or no service on our mobiles but that was a nice change to be uncontactable ! But if you rely on yours you may want to check with Ian & Debbie which service providers are better.

    Debra2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie and Ian were absolutely lovely and so was the place! The space was really well used and the garden setting was gorgeous. Amenities were great too! We had more than enough kitchen supplies and the internet was decent enough to watch Netflix too. If we were really being picky then the lack of soap in the shower or the jittery TV was unexpected but we never addressed this so it's unfair to hold that out on its own. It was a mobile phone black spot too so I found that amazing as I got to switch off from the world when I wanted. Absolutely recommend this spot and most certainly aim to come back soon

    Ehab2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable and clean cottage annex, that is quiet and peaceful and surrounded by nice countryside. I would happily stay here again.

    Erik2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and spacious. Bit off the beaten track for sightseeing. But if you want peace and tranquility here it is

  • A lovely little place in the middle placed centrally in the est of England, perfect for exploring Norfolk and Suffolk. Our host, Debbie, was welcoming and helpful and left us a few goodies to settle us in. It was so peaceful and quiet: just what we wanted to relax after days out on our travels.

Our 2 storey Postmill Annexe is full of charm and character. It has an abundance of original beams and exposed bricks and a wood burner for chilly evenings. Within walking distance of amenities, (tea shop, butchers, pubs, church), and with miles of lovely footpaths from the doorstep.
Our two storey open plan annexe is the restored base of the village windmill. It is across the drive from our house, situated in a quiet cul-de-sac of 4 other houses. We have a meadow with a picnic table and an orchard, which guests are welcome to enjoy during their stay. Walsham-le-Willows is a beautiful village, with a tea shop, two pubs and an award winning butchers at its centre. We are a short drive, (or an hours cross country walk), from Wyken Hall with its beautiful gardens, lovely cafe and restaurant, and Saturday farmers market. There are other great walks to be had from our doorstep, and excellent cycling, suitable for all abilities, with only gentle rolling East Anglian hills.
Walsham-le-Willows is a picturesque Suffolk village, situated 15miles from Bury St Edmunds. We are a 12 minute drive from Elmswell, where there is an hourly train link to Cambridge and Ipswich.
  • The roundhouse is a beautiful place - cosy and welcoming, but remarkably spacious, and with so much character. Walsham is a great spot from which to explore the wider area, but we also wanted to have lots of time enjoying the roundhouse itself! Donna provided an excellent welcome and plenty of information, ensuring we had everything we needed for a great break. We’d thoroughly recommend a stay at the Roundhouse.

    Ben2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous stay in a truly unique setting. Cosy, quaint, 5*. Lovely personalised touches from Donna including a book on local attractions, food options etc. Lovely log burner and breakfast items provided. Contactable and approachable without being on top of her guests.

    Matthew2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous location, amazing accommodation, finishing touches were perfect - altogether a beautiful place to stay

    Nadine2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • On our way back from Donna's lovely old windmill in Walsham-le-Willows, The Roundhouse is a very pleasant rustic place in a peaceful area in the wilds of Norfolk. Honestly, once you've shut yourself in you can barely hear a thing, bar the infrequent crunch of the residents on gravel, even the church bells are barely a tinkle. If rustic and homely is your thing, you're in for a treat. Though a large and open space, heating options in the winter are plentiful and efficient and the facilities tick all the boxes. There is no kitchen as such, rather a breakfast bar arrangement but plenty of space if you brought in dinner with you. Bed & bathroom are unique, comfortable and useable, be mindful of the macerator toilet and follow the rules 😉 and you'll not go wrong. Shower is hot, basin is huge and there's a futon in the bedroom too. Wood burner downstairs is a delight, though we obviously need practice 🙄 and the split barn door is a lovely touch - in the summer it would let in lots of warmth whilst maintaining privacy. We'll be back to explore this possibility along with the local walks and surrounding area.

    Sean2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great weekend, I couldn’t fault the whole experience.

My place is in the heart of rural Suffolk, close to good London / Cambridge rail links and within a 20 min drive from historic Bury St Edmunds with its famous Abbey gardens and recently restored cathedral. You’ll love my place due to its 'get away from it all' location, a base from where you can cycle quiet country roads, explore our beautiful Suffolk villages or maybe relax in one of our good local pubs. Tea / coffee and various breakfast items are provided along with cooking facilities.
The Annexe, although joined to our property is private with its own entrance and patio area, it has a fully equipped kitchen including dishwasher, fridge, oven and hob. The bed is a large double that folds out from a corner sofa in the spacious living area that includes an ensuite with shower cubicle. We also have free wifi.
  • This is my second stay here and I wouldn't hesitate to choose it again. The room was a great size for me as a single traveler. It had everything I needed for a 3 night stay. Mark and Teresa provided milk, butter, cereal and some other basics for my stay. It was clean, quiet and comfy and the hosts were very friendly.

Our home is set in eight acres of extensive gardens and paddocks. We are hidden away in the village of Stanton, conveniently just 3 minutes walk from the local pub and shops and 20 minutes drive from Bury St Edmunds. We offer disabled friendly (wheelchair) access throughout, and can accommodate well behaved dogs, children, bigger parties (2 other rooms available with private use shared bathroom), and even horses. We were featured on BBC1 programme "I Escaped To The Country" in January 2018.
If there are more than 2 people in your party please ask if we can accommodate them as we have additional rooms available, subject to specific arrangements and an additional charge. Whilst we offer a private living area to guests if required, and we respect your space, we really like meeting new people and we are gregarious, so you are quite likely to be invited into our own living areas.
Stanton is a well served village with a Pub ("The Cock" which is open, and serving food all but Mondays), a corner shop, Post Office, fish & chip shop and bakers just a couple of minutes walk away. A short distance away is the Hillcrest Garden Centre with coffee shop and farm / delicatessen foods for sale. Plus a mile down the road you will find Wyken Vinyard. It has a lovely country shop and the Leaping Hare restaurant is reputedly one of the best in East Anglia.
  • Mick and Sue made us so welcome. The house grounds abd cleaniness was first class. We so enjoyed our stay and we will be back with out dogs who were also made so welcome.

  • Had a great stay with Mick & Sue, lovely people, lovely house & grounds & amazing breakfast!! We had the best time with them & will definitely visit again in the future!!

    Charlotte2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Sue are great hosts. We really enjoyed staying with them. The room is lovely, bright and very comfortable. Breakfast was a great - try the homemade jam - with a beautiful outlook. They clearly enjoy hosting and if you have the time, spend some time talking to them about their home and extraordinary lives - they have some great stories. The flag is a great touch, and adds to the warm welcome.

  • A great place to stay, hosts were easy to communicate with and everything was clean, tidy and very comfortable. Would stay again!

  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay with Michael and Sue in their beautiful home and grounds. They made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble . The room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed . On a Saturday night , Sue very kindly drove us to a local restaurant and arranged a taxi firm for our return journey . We had a lovely breakfast the next morning with a view across the grounds and paddocks . Overall we had a really relaxing and peaceful stay with a extremely hospitable couple . Many thanks to you both. Ean and Maria

    Maria2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A second visit and again absolutely loved it all. The room is just so comfortable and clean with stunning views. The hosts are both quite simply wonderful and a joy to chat to. Great value and recommended as a base for exploring Suffolk for s few days. We had two dogs with us who loved it all.

    Dawn2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovey setting, beautiful gardens, paddocks and 'oh so peaceful'- just perfect. Sue was so hospitable (Michael wasn't there) and nothing was too much trouble.

    Nadine2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Sue were the perfect hosts, communication was excellent and they were extremely accommodating (even allowed our black lab dog Walter to stay also). Was lovely to meet Ben the whippet too :) breakfast was simple but tasty, especially the homemade jams. Wish we had time to stay longer to explore the area.

Enjoy a relaxing break away in our lovingly restored holiday cottage. Stable End is a converted barn set on a 30 acre arable farm, situated on the edge of the attractive village of Walsham-le-Willows and in the curtilage of a 17th Century Suffolk thatched farmhouse. Our holiday cottage is conveniently placed to explore the delights of the Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex countryside with excellent country walks direct from the property. It's also a perfect base to visit many of Suffolk's attractions.
A warm welcome is assured all year round with under-floor heating and a wood burning stove in the vaulted sitting room. Add to that chocolates, wine, seasonal flowers and freshly laid eggs on arrival and the scene is set for a lovely, relaxing holiday away, in a truly home from home. Re-launched in August 2016, Stable End has been converted into a holiday cottage providing all modern facilities whilst maintaining a wealth of exposed beams. Always previously commended year on year with a gold award for achieving excellent feedback and scored 100% for 'Accommodation Overall'. Kitchen includes washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, double oven, microwave, slo-cooker, cafetiere and, most importantly, a corkscrew for the relaxing evenings in the paddock or by the pond. First basket of fuel for stove is included plus we hold a large stock of reasonably priced aged wood. Freshly laid bed linen and towels are included. For entertainment, we have a selection of books, games and DVDs with Wi-Fi available in the bedrooms. Picnic basket, blankets, plastic crocks, cool bags, ice blocks and flask are available during your stay to set you off on your suffolk adventures. Disposable BBQ and portable stand can be found in the shed together with cushions and parasols.
It is a perfect base to visit many of Suffolk's attractions, we have plentiful supply of tourist and all local information to hand. Julie and Ant are fountains of knowledge for the local Suffolk and Norfolk countryside and can give you some insights into the 'secret' walks and beautiful countryside locations that you may not have heard of. Walsham-Le-Willows also has a renowned butchers, Rolfe's of Walsham, where you can treat yourself to some of the best ingredients for your cooked breakfast or meat for the BBQ. A quaint coffee house with freshly baked cakes everyday, a couple of country pubs for your local beer and fine dining. All this before you even set-foot outside of this tiny, quaint and serene village!
  • We stayed at Stable End for a month whilst awaiting to move into a house near by. A great space in the Suffolk countryside. Spotlessly clean and plenty of amenities for a really comfortable stay. Lots of local information provided, along with fresh eggs every few days! Underfloor heating was perfect as we sheltered from stormy winter weather. Julie and Anthony were brilliant hosts, giving you space but always on hand when needed. Only wish we could have stayed longer! (Was fully booked) I can see why others come back to Stable End year after year!

    Alex2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stable end is a good spot for visiting Norfolk and Suffolk. The house is cosy and has everything you will need. Julie the host is very welcoming and she left us chocolates, wine and fresh eggs.

    Veronica2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • A magical place to stay for our family of four including our three and five-year old. We loved the ducks, geese, and woods out the back. And it was a brilliant jump-off point for places to visit around Suffolk. Highly recommended.

    Tom2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous stay at Stable End - stunning location and really lovely grounds, the kids loved seeing the chickens and ducks and we had fun playing in the paddock area too. A lovely little place for a relaxing holiday. Lauren and family

    Lauren2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this cottage when we had family come over a couple of weeks ago. The cottage and the surroundings were lovely. Julie had stocked the place with essentials plus extras which we really appreciated. The cottage is also stocked with games and dvds which kept the kids entertained when they weren't chasing the ducks and grouse outside. Couldn't have hoped for a better place. Thanks.

A pretty Victorian cottage with wood burning stove and many original features. Placed well away from the hustle and bustle, the cottage serves as a peaceful rural retreat, just twenty minute's drive from Bury St Edmunds and 4 miles from the Suffolk/Norfolk border, making it a perfect touring base. Luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding, feather pillows & duvets and white Turkish cotton towels are provided.
Built in 1861 this former estate worker's cottage enjoys a tranquil rural location and there are lawned gardens with a small pond to the front (unfenced so small children need to be supervised) and a private courtyard area with seating at the rear of the property. The garden is visited by a wide variety of birds such as robins, greenfinches, collared doves, long tailed tits, goldfinches to name but a few. The shaker-style kitchen with breakfast bar (seats 4 people) includes: Electric oven Microwave Brita filter kettle Toaster Fridge freezer Washing machine Tumble dryer The cosy sitting room has a wood burner (logs are provided), 42" flat screen TV and DVD player. There is a selection of children's DVDs. The shingled courtyard area with seating at the rear of the property is perfect for alfresco dining.
Bowbeck is a charming little hamlet which lies within the parish of Bardwell (shortlisted for 2017 Village of the Year). The Royal George pub in Barningham and Six Bells pub in Bardwell are merely a mile and a half away and the nearest shops are SPAR in Barningham which sells freshly baked bread and Hillcrest Farm Shop in Stanton (3 miles). Golfing, horse riding, segway and kayaking are a short drive away. The area offers great opportunities for walkers with the Peddar's Way and Icknield Way just 4 miles down the road at the Suffolk/Norfolk border. Food at the Norton Dog pub is highly recommended (popular so booking is advisable).
  • Ellen's place was beyond our expectations. The place is so cosy we had an amazing chilled weekend away and the fire made it extra comfortable. Ellen added lots of thoughtful touches and communication was quick and efficient. 100% recommended! Thank you very much Ellen!

    Diana2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen's cottage is just as described, large enough but also cosy. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches of fresh milk and biscuits for that much needed cuppa on arrival. You wont be disappointed with the characterful charm and position of the cottage

    Lesley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a very rural location . The garden is full of birds visiting the feeders in the garden. Very well equipped kitchen and nice to have hand wash, good quality towels and cosy duvet. Interesting places to visit a short drive away, we especially recommend Wyken vineyard shop and restaurant.

    Angela2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen’s place is a quiet and lovely cottage. It has all that was needed for short or long stays. Lots of information and nice little touches. Ideal location to stay and enjoy the area.

    Trevor2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was super cosy with all of the stuff we needed for a comfortable stay. Was really lovely and quiet. Thank you Ellen!

    Chloe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is probably my favourite Air b&b so far. Suffolk is a much under-rated County for walking and days out. We loved the house and the surrounding countryside. I cannot find anything negative to say, apart from the landlady in the Royal George is in the wrong business, she has no social skills. I am sure we will be back if we are welcome. Thank you and Happy New Year.

  • This was our second stay. It's lovely and clean and has everything you need. It's in an extremely quiet area, easy to park and very private. The outside space is lovely too.

    Louise2020-02-26T00:00:00Z

  • This was a last minute booking as I needed a place to stay whilst working late in Thetford. Jenny's place was perfect - cosy, comfortable and quiet which was much appreciated after a long day. Jenny has thought of all the small touches including supplying breakfast, tea, coffee and the essentials to use the kitchen. Additionally, there is the forge which I didn't use as it was cold and raining but which looked like a fun place to spend an evening. I'll definitely be booking Jenny's place again and thoroughly recommend you booking a stay there for the tranquility and relaxing atmosphere.

    Leena2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. Very clean and a helpful host. The space by the fire is fantastic.

  • Lindsey's place is sparkling clean and well equipped. On arrival Lindsey showed us round and made us feel welcome and then let us have our own personal space. The interior was well designed with all you need for a comfy and enjoyable stay. The outside area had a beautiful garden to enjoy - although the weather was rather against us - but would be perfect on a sunny day! Would thoroughly recommend.

  • The standard of this accommodation is exceptional and it’s by far the best Airbnb we’ve stayed at. Immaculately clean, modern and a lovely place to stay. Comfy beds, good quality bed linen and towels. Thoughtful touches such as cake and fresh flowers on arrival. Fully equipped kitchen and basics such as bread, milk, eggs, cereals, coffee and tea left for us which were much appreciated. We enjoyed having the wood burning stove on in the evenings and loved the light airy space. Lovely view and rural location - nice for walks. Will be recommending to friends and would love to stay again if in the area. Thank you Caroline for your hospitality x

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • wow, wow, wow, wow this home is the best we have ever stayed in , Its super clean and super modern but feels so cosy . I must admit we dont normally book places that allow dog but based on the reviews I was prepared to take the risk, There was no evidence of this being a dog free zone Thankfully . We have nothing against dogs I may add . The space is out of this world ,The furnishings are of high quality and make the house a home .We stayed for only two nights but we have already booked a week in the summer .The outside space goes on and on the private back decking area is also a space we are looking forward to on our next visit, The beds and the bedding are of high quality as are the en suite bathrooms . Very kind welcome cake and basic supplies in the fridge ,eggs ,bread ,butter and milk .The log burner was a cosy extra to go home to after exploring Suffolk .We had two great meals out you do need a car to get to locations . You will be mad not to book this home . Caroline is a lovely warm welcoming lady , BOOK IT ,BOOK IT .

  • Great accommodation, Caroline was a great host. The place was spotless with everything we needed. We come back in the winter or summer. Fully recommended. 5 stars

    Paul2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most amazing place to stay - if we could give Caroline more than 5 stars then we would! Everything that we needed was there for us with lots of little touches that make a stay just that little bit more special; a beautiful Christmas tree, fresh chocolate cake and even a bottle of bubbly to see in the New Year! The barn was beyond better than the photographs and was immaculate and clean; beautiful bed linen and comfortable beds. The kitchen had all that we needed and was again sparkly clean. We were very sad to leave this place and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Caroline!!

This little Shepherd hut is fully equipped to offer a base to explore the surrounding area. The village is quintessentially English ! Small church - Village green - a handful of houses - more horses than people - very quiet.
We can offer a spare bed for those travelling with children. it is a funky blow up mattress with bedding. Inflated in a minute !! Amazing to watch. Just let us know if you would like the extra bed. You get a hot tub tooooo .. for a small fee !
It is a small village and no pub or shop for 4 miles. please make sure to bring some provisions with you !
  • The perfect get away from our city jobs! The hut was cosy, excellently equipped, and exactly what we were hoping for.

    Sam2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at piano forte, and will definitely be back! The hut is really well equipped, the hot tub is wonderful, and plenty of fun things to do and places to explore around Thetford and Banham. Great way to escape for a few days.

    Genevieve2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing, exactly how it was advertised, clean cosy and like a home from home! Loved every minute here and didnt want to leave. The shepherd's hut was well equipped and the decor was very modern and stylish! It was like being in your own private space and you would have never known there was anyone around! Felt very relaxed in the hot tub without being overlooked. I would 100% recommend adding the hot tub onto your stay. One thing I would say is that the Wifi doesnt reach inside of the shepherd's hut but it does while in garden area, however this didnt affect our stay. I always had quick responses from the host whenever i had a question to ask. I will be recommending Piano Forte to everyone and will be returning.

    Gemma2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely little cabin. My girlfriend and I enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at Piano Forté. Great hot tub, quiet, peaceful, clean, private and cosy. Highly recommend it!

    Sam2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very romantic little spot. Although there are two other properties on the site Piano Forte was very private and exclusive. We felt very comfortable and hidden away-which was lovely. Hot tub is perfect and very clean! The seating areas and ‘hut’ outside are a lovely touch too. We couldn’t get the WiFi to connect inside the cabin at all unfortunately, however 4G (provider EE) worked fine throughout the cabin, and WiFi worked OK outside in certain spots. Unless your avid walkers you definitely need a car/taxis to get around. Closet town was around a 5/10 minute drive but very easy to get to. We were provided with a bottle of wine in the cabin on arrival which was a very kind extra touch! It’s a small cosy space which we throughly enjoyed.

    Summer2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was the perfect retreat for a relaxing few days away! Definitely book the hot tub too! Perfect beyond belief xx

This lovely country cottage was newly converted 2 years ago. It has all modern ammenities and is set within our 6 acre farm near Wetherden. It is a peaceful retreat yet close to ammenities in Elmswell, Bury St. Edmunds and Stowmarket. However, because the cottage is in this setting WiFi is provided by a mobile device which is fine for collecting e mails and surfing the net but will not support large downloads of data.
This is a quiet and tranquil space and the garden is fenced in.
This is a beautiful quiet spot but there is easy access to the A 14 which means you can get to Bury St. Edmunds or Cambridge easily.
  • Everything was wonderful.. warm and cosy .. great walks, herd of deer on the doorstep followed by 4 huge Hares .. kids loved it and so did we.. Highly recommend 😃

  • We booked to stay here instead of the normal air b n b that we usually stay at when visiting our family in Suffolk. We are so glad we did! The house was immaculate and very roomy for us and our two young children. There was a huge play area for them to play in and once our host realised how little they were, she immediately offered a highchair, travel cot and even stair gates! It’s very nice, quiet, secluded and peaceful- just what you need with two little ones! Thank you so much for our stay- we will definitely be booking with you next time we are down!

  • We had a fantastic stay. The cottage is lovely - nice and clean, and beautifully styled inside. Milk, tea and coffee were left for us, along with a selection of cereals, which was a nice little touch. The host was really responsive to my questions and I would definitely recommend people staying here! It was great value for a beautiful place to stay for a weekend away.

Lovely cottage in the small village of Hinderclay in the countryside with beautiful walks on the doorstep. 15 minutes from the market town of Diss with direct rail connection to London and 30 minutes from the beautiful Georgian town of Bury St Edmunds with its Regency theatre.
At Briarways you will find a large open plan kitchen/living room with a vaulted ceiling, woodburner, WIFI and a smart TV. The kitchen area is equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven and fridge. There is one double bedroom with a king size bed and a shower room. Guests have their own outside area with a table and chairs for morning coffee. For more images follow us on Instagram @briarways.suffolk.
Hinderclay is on the Norfolk/Suffolk border so we have the best of both counties. There are lovely walks in the surrounding areas. There are two pubs a five minute drive or 45 minutes walk along country footpaths if you're feeling adventurous . Hinderclay has its own fishing lakes. The Peddars Way begins just down the road and you can also join the Angles Way. The towns of Diss, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Norwich are all worth a visit, as are the beautiful Brecks, Thetford forest, Knettishall Heath, Bressingham steam museum and gardens, and the wonderful Suffolk coast with the annual Latitude festival. The village of Rickinghall is a five minute drive away and here you will find a Co op, fish and chip shop, two pubs and a Chinese takeaway. Wyken Vineyards is a 15 minute drive and has an award winning restaurant, beautiful garden, shop and weekly farmers market.,There are also print workshops run by Caroline Somerville and art workshops run by Sue Ecclestone at lilac cottage studio in the local village of Rickinghall.
  • A clean, cosy and comfortable place to stay. We had a fantastic weekend break.

  • A lovely space with a homely feel and plentiful walks nearby!

    Eliot2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Already cannot wait to stay at Helen’s place again! Such a cosy space with lovely touches, from the fresh brownies and milk so we could have a cuppa when we arrived, to all the tips that were left for places to eat in the local area and lovely walks you could explore. The wood burner was already on when we arrived which made us feel super cosy and felt like walking in to a home. It is a space that has really been thought out well with no expense spared on the lovely decor and homely touches. The bed was very comfortable with nice linen but the highlight of our trip had to be waking up and opening the blinds to find wild rabbits playing right outside the windows. A car is a must as the location is quite remote, which is great for that country feel but still close enough to lovely towns and villages you can explore a few different places everyday which was great. We will definitely be back!

    Poppy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous place from the outside in... has everything you need. Very comfortable and stylish with a great atmosphere. Would definitely stay again. The WiFi didn’t work 100% but Helen and Graham were there for our every need! Amazing Hinderclay guide - we packed lots of interesting things in locally - all within a 20 minute drive. Perfect for a short stay in the peace and quiet.

    Skye2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We were so impressed with this beautiful house where we stayed on our weekend trip away from London. 10/10 for comfort, Helen’s done an amazing job to make this a place of relaxation, tranquility and happiness. Leaving the house on our daily trips away, it naturally felt like coming back to home to put on a log fire and enjoy the warmth of this accommodation.

    Marc2020-01-12T00:00:00Z

We welcome you to stay in a comfortable guest suite on our working Suffolk smallholding, with free-range chickens (other animals vary), an orchard and ponds. The large bedroom is ideal for a couple, but can easily fit 4 or 5 (even 6 at a squeeze), with a double sofa bed and 1 or 2 single folding beds, in addition to the main double bed. (supplement payable for more than two guests). The suite has its own bathroom, with a door separating you from the rest of the house.
Our house is a Swedish wooden house, built in 1948 and recently extended with many eco-features. It overlooks our 3-acres, which is the basis for our smallholding. The guest suite is situated on the first floor and is self contained. It has good views across the smallholding, including the paddocks and the orchard. Access to the suite is via the shared front door. The suite itself is situated at the top of the stairs and has its own door, which can be bolted.
We live on the edge of a small friendly village surrounded by farmland. Less than a mile away are a village shop, pub with restaurant, filling station and medical centre. St. George's church, dating from the medieval period and with magnificent stained glass, is only a minute's walk from the house and is always open. There are plenty of well marked footpaths, taking you through the Suffolk countryside. There is a children's play park just a few minute's walk away.

Truly modern dwellings in our traditional Suffolk countryside. Relax in the new hot tub on the south-facing sun-deck while enjoying the privacy of your own secluded garden. Roll back the bi-fold doors as you lounge inside the shade of the lodge having discovered the local villages and country lanes. We only have four of these hand-built lodges within the grounds of our country home, and they are special buildings for our special guests, many of whom return, for a memorable stay. 3 nights min.
Your own place to chill in the heart of East Anglia, close to the attractive town of Bury St Edmunds. Designed by us to give our guests everything they need for a relaxing break, Oak Lodge at Upthorpe Lodges is one of four in a countryside location in its own private garden. We are in one of the UK's driest areas, and the sun deck has a gas bbq, sunloungers and dining table. If you really want to let the outside in, just roll back the bi-fold doors and enjoy! Note: This lodge now has a hot tub! Contemporary and funky, rural and peaceful, our lodge lets the sun pour in whilst the underfloor heating ensures comfort throughout the year. The kitchen is well equipped, including a dishwasher, full-size oven, and washing machine. Enjoy the large shower, the bedroom TV, and wake up overlooking the garden through the glazed bedroom doors. There is a Smart TV in the living room with Netflix included. The paved path from the car-park ensures same level entrance and exit from car to entrance door. Keys are kept in a coded locker to allow anytime arrival (after 4pm) and departure (before 10am). The car-park is off-road and is well lit for arrivals after dark. We prefer to allow guests complete independence whilst they enjoy our lodge, but we are always available if required, by text, phone or email. We live very close by in the neighbouring property. Why choose our location? Well it's bang in the middle of East Anglia, which we think is great for its wide landscapes, wild coasts and rural countryside. We could also mention the great little market towns nearby and the increasingly popular larger town of Bury St Edmunds. An hour's drive can take you to the small but fascinating and lively cities of Cambridge and Norwich, or Constable Country, the 'wool towns' or the coast. Getting here by public transport can be a bit tricky, but it can be done and we'll be happy to advise. Alternatively, bring your car, park it up, and explore on foot or borrow our two bikes! There's an extensive network of public footpaths and bridleways on our doorstep. There are many popular places to visit nearby; Banham Zoo, Wyken Vineyards, Go Ape, Thetford Forest, Cambridge, Norwich, and the Suffolk Heritage Coast to name just a few. Our page links to several local places, restaurants and attractions which can be enjoyed. We also have three other lodges, all with Hot tubs included in the price too - just enquire if interested.
We are set at the edge of a village, in Suffolk countryside with many lanes and footpaths on our doorstep. One of Suffolk's most highly rated restaurants (and cafe) The Leaping Hare, can be walked to on footpaths - a rewarding country walk! Cyclists have a number of country lane routes to choose from. However, shops and village life isn't far away with a village store less than a mile and a farm shop the other side of Stanton.
  • What an amazing place, the location is perfect and so so peaceful! It’s great if you want adventure followed by s relaxing evening in the hot tub! The accomadation was so clean and tidy with so much space and mini touches that made it extra special! We will definitely be returning! Thank you so much xxx

    Daniel2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The oak lodge is an ideal quiet getaway with plenty of things to do within a short drive or walk. The lodge has everything you need whether its for a short weekend break or longer holiday and the hot tub is a bonus. I would definitely visit again.

  • Quiet, cosy and clean. Hot tub and private garden area are amazing, not overlooked at all. 25 mins to Bury St Ed’s and an hour to Cambridge and Norwich for days out. Kitchen had everything we needed and was very spacious. Highly recommend a stay here, exactly what we were looking for!

    Charlie2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • A little slice of paradise! The garden is beautiful- we really appreciated how much work must go into the outdoor space to keep it looking lovely. The lodge was sparkling clean- decor is simple and homely. We had everything we needed and really appreciated the little touches (local food/ drink, milk in the fridge, robes provided). The hot tub was blissful. A notebook is left out to encourage guests to recommend places to visit (a really nice touch), so we got plenty of ideas from there! We cannot recommend Oak Lodge enough- we can't wait to return.

    Bethany2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • A nice, neat and excellent place to stay. The hot tub is amazing as well as access to a barbecue which was lovely. Would recommend!

    Matthew2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Oak lodge is a beautiful lodge. It is decorated beautifully with the addition of lovely touches such as fairy lights and flowers. The lodge is very private, meaning you can enjoy the use of the hot tub in peace. The hot tub was fantastic with a lovely view of the garden to admire also. Ian and Debbie are fantastic hosts, they communicate extremely well with out hassling you. It's nice to know they are nearby should you need any help. I can't recommend Upthorpe Lodges in general enough, it's the ultimate escape from reality, ever so relaxing and refreshing. My partner and I look forward to booking at one of there lodges in the future, and will most definitely be recommending to our friends and family. Thank you.

    Rebecca2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect little spot for a couples weekend away! My partner and I spent out Anniversary weekend here, and it really was beautiful! So peaceful, the outside area is so cosy, and the little birds that come to visit whilst your laying there in the sun shine just tops it off! The lodge was clean to a high standard, and everything that you could need in a kitchen is there! Down to tea coffee and sugar! The lodge itself is super cosy of an evening when you want to stick a movie on just after dinner, before you jump into the hot tub and watch the stars! Truly beautiful! I would definatley recommend this to any couple wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of life! I can say that we will definatley be back for sure! Thanks again Ian!

  • David's place is faultless, we loved spending New Year's here! The cottage has a really cosy and fresh feel to it, perfect for a short getaway. All of the amenities you would expect (and more!) were provided--we had prosecco left in the fridge for us, and tea set up in the living room complete with a selection of cakes and scones, tiptree jam with clotted cream also waiting in the fridge! The wood burner in the living room is also a really nice touch. Bardwell's a lovely little village and a short drive from Bury St. Edmunds if you want more to do. Would highly recommend!

  • What a wonderful place to stay! The cottage and village are both absolutely beautiful but the thing that makes this place extra-special is David’s hosting. The extra touches were an absolute treat! We only stayed for one night but agree that it’s absolutely one of our favourite Airbnb’s we have stayed in. Beautiful surroundings, very close to a lovely country pub - don’t hesitate to stay here!

    joanne2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't have asked for more. This cottage is just perfect for a peaceful retreat. Quaint but surprisingly spacious rooms. You couldn't ask for more than two comfy recliners by a log burner on a cold rainy day but the afternoon tea and other treats David left for us just made our weekend extra special. This is a really standout airbnb and represents exceptional value. I couldn't recommend highly enough.

    Olly2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really appreciated the little touches like the afternoon tea on arrival and the nice herbal tea in the cupboard. Great value for money and will definetely use again when next in the area.

Little Oaks is a unique 1 bedroom cottage. It is surrounded by fields yet in easy reach of the A14 and cities/towns like Bury St. Edmunds and Cambridge. It has its' own private fenced garden and their is a play area on site that children can use if they would like. It is a new conversion. The cottage is in a peaceful setting however this means that WiFi is provided by a mobile device which is fine for collecting e mails and surfing but not for downloading large volumes of data. We welcome pets.
This cottage is set within the 6 acres of Whitehouse Farm with wonderful walks on the door step. The garden is fenced in and Little Oaks has its own BBQ area. There is a pond on the property and a childrens play area.
There are many good places to eat out locally and within the cottage there is a directory of where we recommend to eat out. There are good ammenities in Elmswell, which is the next village. These include a small supermarket and take aways.
  • Such a beautiful cottage. Pictures doesn't do it justice, affordable and a lovely location for walks and just being cozy, watching dvds or reading. A lovely touch with the books and being able to swap them. Downfall is no signal but its perfect if you are looking to escape from the internet and get in touch with nature!! Would recommend this place!!

  • A very nice setup. Picturesque location and cosy cottage. We managed to cook a full Christmas meal in the well equipped kitchen. Our little boy loved the play area outside. Slight problems with the WiFi and there’s not much mobile signal but if you’re trying to escape it all then that’s fine.

  • This is our second time at Little Oaks, we had yet another wonderful relaxing break for 3 nights. Brought our two dogs this time and they thoroughly enjoyed it. We took a walk around the fields behind the cottage and our 9 year old son was excited to see the deer running in the fields. We will definitely go back again lovely homely cottage just what you need, thanks Alison.

We are 25 mins from Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket. Accessible to the local village pub and shop which is 5 mins drive. Swallow Barn is situated off a quiet lane in a small village surrounded by beautiful countryside and wildlife. The property is separate to our 16th century Grade 2 listed home and we are happy to accept well behaved dogs. Please contact us before booking if you wish to bring them. Open fields surrounding the property provide plenty of lovely walks.
Swallow Barn is a converted barn adjacent to our very special 16th Century timber framed house. We have converted the barn to a high specification, taking into account our favourite bits of all the holiday lets we have stayed in over the years. We aim to create a sense of cosiness without loss of practicality. The barn affords lovely views over the field and is light and airy. In winter the woodburner adds a warm glow to those cold winter days. Swallow Barn's unique feature is that it is in a very special position, overlooking open fields. It has it's own garden which is a haven for wildlife. We commonly see a variety of birds and deer walk through our meadow. We are big dog lovers and own 2 rescue dogs, we are happy to accept well behaved dogs. We own dogs ourselves and have a cat who is dog friendly to dogs who know how to treat him! Dog guests will be able to share the use of our 2 acre field behind the house. Please note owners will need to bring their own dog bedding.
Swallow Barn is a haven for wildlife, we regularly see swallows, hares, ducks, pheasants and deer, sometimes a magical barn owl. Bird watchers are in easy reach of Minsmere and Suffolk Wildlife Trust have several nearby nature reserves, one of which takes dogs. We have barns surrounding the property which house nesting swallows which duck and dive over the fields all summer long and are fascinating to watch in the cool of the evening.
  • Swallow Barn is a very private, pristine and spacious property with nice green views and all the amenities you could ask for. We loved the wood burner and the wet room as well as all the thoughtful touches Rosie and Richard had added. Loved our stay and will be back and we're not the only very satisfied and returning guests!

  • Probably the best AirBnB I've ever visited, comfortable, warm, stylish, quiet, authentic and sensitively refurbished, with outstanding facilities for dogs including a very large enclosed exercise area and good walks in all directions.

Situated in the quietest of settings, in the beautiful rural county of Suffolk, enjoying views of the peaceful countryside from its idyllic isolated setting. From this restful hideaway one can explore the many local footpaths and lanes on foot or visit nearby attractions by car or bicycle. This is a landscape of windmills, churches and nature reserves, with steam attractions, sports' venues and a wealth of local shops, pubs and eateries easily accessible.
Hostlers Cottage is set within the curtilage of the listed farmhouse and has been designed in a sympathetic manner, retaining original oak beams and the introduction of new hand-crafted solid oak joinery features, some from wood sourced on site. As a purpose built conversion of original farm buildings, Hostlers has everything one would wish to find in a holiday home-from-home. As well as a well-appointed kitchen area, there is a separate utility area with washing machine and dish washer. The bathroom has the pampering features of a drench shower and a whirlpool bath with oodles of piping hot water. There are TVs with DVD players in both lounge and bedroom, and a small enclosed garden with dog-proof fencing and patio, table and chairs. Additionally, there is a covered BBQ area adjoining the cottage, ample parking and, uniquely, a decking area set in the middle of one of the ponds. Here one can soak up the rays or watch the sunset with a gin and tonic to hand. The high-ceiling and open-plan design gives the living area a spacious airy feel whilst, at the same time, there is a cosy comforting feel to this little gem of a country hideaway; ideal for romantic evenings for two away from the hubbub of modern life.
We are situated between Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Diss. The beautiful Knettishall Heath with its wild ponies is just four miles away. The historic towns of Cambridge and Norwich are within an hour's drive, and the iconic coastlines of Norfolk or Suffolk make for a memorable day out.
  • If you are thinking of staying here, do. It is a a quiet, comfortable base from which to explore the area.
