Places to stay in Meshaw
My cosy cottage is ideal for romantic getaways, anniversaries, birthdays or just to enjoy. Exmoor is virtually on the doorstep and the North Devon coast is not too far away. You’ll love my place because of it's quirkyness cosiness and character and that it is just a short walk from the michelin star pub/ restuarant. There are also lots of footpaths and country lanes to explore close by. So all you have to do is relax and enjoy.
This gorgeous thatched cottage is full of character, low ceilings, uneven walls and beams. There is a michelin star pub/restuarant ( the only one in North Devon) a very short walk away. Please book in advance as it is very popular. A national footpath 'two moors way' passes through the village and the oldest historic church in North Devon can be seen from the window. All in all a charming sleepy little village.
  • We loved staying at Dolores’s cottage!! Really cosy and cute with a crackling woodburner and lovely views over the countryside at the upstairs back window. The location was perfect; we explored Croyde on one day and Exeter the next. Really clean and lovely touches, like the table being laid up and the storage heaters on. Loved our stay & will definitely return!

  • April Cottage is a lovely quaint thatched cottage in a very pretty Devon village. We really enjoyed our stay, and found everything to be comfortable and clean. Thank you very much!

  • This is a great little cottage with everything you need for a cosy, comfortable and relaxing break. The location is very rural and so naturally peaceful. We visited the coast easily from here but there is also plenty on the doorstep too.

  • Wonderfully located cottage - peaceful rural bliss!

  • A wonderful cute and quiet cottage in an ideal location to explore Devon!

  • Very nice and cozy cottage, located in a quiet village in Exmoor. Between the towns of South Molton and Tiverton. Definitely worth it if you want to explore the area. We really enjoyed it.

  • A wonderful, cosy, comfortable and welcoming cottage. There is everything you need for two and a very comfortable bed. The location is great, tranquil and picturesque with lots of good walks from the house. Bring supplies with you as there is no shop nearby and if you’re very tall or unstable on your feet it will not suit as the cottage is very old with uneven floors and low ceilings. A lovely, slightly remote place to get away from it all.

  • A wonderful old cottage in a lovely small village, this place is extremely cosy.

Meshaw is a pretty village well placed to explore Exmoor and North Devon coast. Nearby towns are South Molton, Barnstaple, Tiverton and Exeter. The well equipped, newly refurbished room is upstairs on the 1st floor. It has a king-size bed, microwave, toaster and kettle. A table-top fridge and ironing facilities are available. Car parking outside property. Reasonably priced but high quality accommodation. One min walk from The Cart Linhay - a neighbouring Airbnb.
It offers a chance to relax in a beautiful rural setting.
It's a lovely area and the people are really friendly.
  • Celia is a really lovely and friendly host and we really enjoyed our stay with her. The room is lovely - huge and bright with fantastic amenities (microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge etc) and breakfast was provided too! The bathroom is big and clean and we never had to wait to use it. The property is a in a beautiful village about 20-30 minutes’ drive from Barnstaple and Celia gave excellent directions to help us find it. Celia couldn’t have done more to help us - we would recommend her place to everyone and would love to stay again in the future!

  • Cells is a lovely lady, very welcoming. House is in a quiet location with a bus stop virtually right outside! Comfy bed, clean, microwave/ toaster/ kettle in room. Would highly recommend!

    Becky2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • I apent two nights at Celia's home whilst travelling across country. It a characterful home in a very small village, next to the church in the heart of rural Devon. There is a convenient parking space in front of the house and the room contains a comfortable, large bed, combination micro-cooker, a selection of cereals, snacks, tea and coffee etc. A fridge for guests is located in an adjoining room. The bathroom is just across the landing from the bedroom. Celia is friendly and happy to chat, but the guest can also be completely independent to stay in or come and go as they please. Skye, the border collie, adapts to guests; there is also a cat, but I didn't see anything of her. An ideal place for peace and quiet, or a central location to explore much of Devon. Of interest to literary pilgrims is nearby North Tawton, home to Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes.

  • Our stay with Celia was great. Communication from Celia was prompt and helpful. She was there to greet us on arrival and could provide us with information about the local area. The house is beautiful in a peaceful village and the room was great full of lots of thoughtful touches. We would definitely recommend staying here and will be back ourselves very soon! It was lovely to meet Celia

Orchard setting with beautiful views, our holiday caravan is somewhere to truly relax and imagine how life could be. Fully equipped for 4 guests, there is also private parking, a garden with seating, a fire pit and BBQ equipment. Between late May and September guests have shared use of the heated swimming pool. A games room with table tennis and pool is also included. Situated only a couple of miles from the village, our accommodation is within easy reach of a range of shops and places to eat.
A truly tranquil location yet within easy reach of civilisation. Sit in the comfortable living space and watch the abundant wildlife, including red deer, or head out for a country walk and follow footpaths over open fields and moor, where skylarks fly, to the local where local cider awaits. With children in mind, our friendly farm pig Minxie and Dartmoor pony Dora love lots of attention and provide endless amusement close to home. Or, borrow wellies and hunt for the Geo-caches to be found in the vicinity or play pooh-sticks on the little bridge crossing the stream in the farm woods. For more structured exercise, take a swim in our heated swimming pool and soak up the sun before exhausted and hungry you return home to enjoy tea in the private garden. Finally try out one of the lovely country pubs including the Royal Oak at Iddesleigh..inspiration for Michael Morpurgo's'War Horse' (about 20 min drive) or dine in and spend the evening around the firepit. Otherwise simply hunker down on the comfortable sofas and watch a favourite DVD.
Our family farm is situated amidst glorious Devon countryside. The vilage of Chulmleigh is approximately 2.5 miles distant and has a full range of shops including: butcher, bakers, newsagents, grocers. There is also an Indian restaurant, a bistro and two pubs serving food. 8 miles away is South Molton which has more shops, a Sainsburys and a traditional Pannier market twice a week. Exmoor and Dartmoor are within easy reach as is the North Devon coast: Approximately a 40 minute drive.
  • Clean, comfortable accommodation. Beautiful surroundings, other than the usual farm noises (not that much) it's very peaceful & relaxing. You feel out the way but only 5 mins away from village. Would recommend.

    Denise2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • A real country getaway, guaranteed peace and quiet. Minxie and Dora really made it extra special. Caravan was cosy and functional, and good value.

  • We had a lovely stay at Dawn’s place, our girls really loved being with Mixie and Dora. The surrounding is beautiful and extremely quiet. The heated pool was fantastic and the games room was a welcome place when it started raining. We would highly recommend this place!

    Jeroen2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, cozy caravan with everything you need. Warm welcome from Dawn. We especially loved the pool, games room and the gorgeous animals in the orchard.

    Rachel2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Dawn’s caravan provided us with a wonderful family holiday that was full of fun, games and a break from everyday life. From the moment we booked, everything ran smoothly and we were made to feel extremely welcome as soon as we arrived (scones, cream and jam on arrival). The caravan itself is very cosy and was just right for the four of us, but it was the ‘neighbours’ - Minxie & Dora - who made the week extra special for the kids. Everything on the farm was great and we had lots of fun in the pool, playing tennis, table tennis & pool. There’s lots to do locally whether it is walking the dog or heading off to the seaside for the day. Thank you so much to Dawn and her family who were wonderful hosts and made out stay very special. We will no doubt be heading back in the future.

  • Fantastic cottage in a beautiful setting. It has everything you could hope for and Alison is a great host. Thanks

  • My elderly mum and I had a wonderful time and wish we could have stayed longer! We loved the homegrown cucumber and chillis Alison shared with us. The surroundings were peaceful and the cottage in such a beautiful, clean state. The downstairs en-suite was great for mum as she sometimes struggles with stairs. The beds were also very comfortable. I’d highly recommend Orchard Cottage. Hopefully we’ll be back in the future!

  • thank you for another great stay Jules! If I could live at Two Moors Retreat I think I probably would! I just need to bring the weather with me next time, and hopefully be around when the Art Cafe is open as it looks brilliant. You've done a wonderful job with the place and I hope Withyridge as a whole appreciates you as much as I do 😊

  • We had a wonderful stay. We got a good tip to eat in a local pub. There are a lot of walking books and folders for nice trips to make. The stay is located between 2 national parks. Both very beautiful! If you are a nature person who likes to walk, this is a good base. We were immediately received hospitably. We had the feeling that we could easily ask for everything and at the same time have our private. Really great! A nice extra: there is a nice, curious cat.

Appledore Barn is a barn conversion in a group of three cottages which has been sensitively renovated retaining many of it's original features. The kingsize bedroom has a flat screen TV and a large ensuite shower room. The twin bedroom has a bathroom with overhead shower and also has a flat screen TV. There is plenty of storage in each of the rooms. There is access to a cycle store and bootwash and plenty of car parking. Families can meet with sheep, chickens, ducks and pigs on our smallholding. There is a local pub 15 minutes walk away serving excellent food and a wide range of other pubs and restaurants nearby. Less than 2 miles away is the thriving market town of South Molton, with it's bi-weekly Pannier market and wide range of food shops, vintage homeware outlets, teashops and restaurants.
  • A stunning, tranquil location. Adele is a great host, the welcome hamper and food were great. Much recommend ordering an evening meal for your arrival! Kids will enjoy the smart TV and board games, as well as the animals and cute pigs and sheep. You will have a great time! :-)

    Stefano2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful remote spot with lovely view. Cottage immaculate, comfortable (especially beds) and very well equipped. The welcome hamper was the best we've ever come across

    Sally2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect rural retreat for our young family. The children loved waking up to the animals outdoors, nearly as much as we loved the welcome hamper & log burner!! Spotless. Spacious. Superb!!!

    Lewis2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place. We didn't want to leave. The views are wonderful and it's just so peaceful. The cottage was so clean and its been decorated beautifully. A nice mix of old and new. Very light and airy. The 2 bedrooms (and en-suites) are on the ground floor with a utility room in between. That was very handy when you have dogs with you. The large open space upstairs was the kitchen/diner and living room. Nice big TV with DVD player and a nice selection of DVD's. The welcome basket was amazing. A nice BBQ outside which we made use of. The only thing I would say is that the front garden (the garden area is at the front) is not enclosed from the other 2 cottages. This want too much of a problem for us though. The area the 3 cottages are in is enclosed from though if that makes sense. So our dogs were able to access the gardens of the other cottages, but they couldn't get out onto the road and escape. We really enjoyed our stay and had a lovely time exploring the farm and collecting some eggs for breakfast. There is also a little farm shop on site for other supplies. We would definitely stay again.

  • Truly amazing. Stunning settings, pictures don't do it justice. Appledore Barn was well equipped, stylish and homely. The welcome hamper was so thoughtful and yummy. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

  • Very high quality, child friendly, comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. We were there with family including an 18month old for walking and cycling and had a great few days. Lots of dedicated cycle tracks a short drive away. We would certainly go back and would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the area. Thank you ,Adele.

  • Appledore barn is a lovely place to stay in a beautiful location. Our children loved Pinky and Perky who you get to meet right on arrival! The barn is very clean and immaculately presented. The welcome pack and lemon cake are a lovely touch and were greatly enjoyed!

The cottage is full of character, restored with oak grown on the farm. The kitchen is fully fitted with granite worktops, a range cooker and granite floor. The living room is open plan with slate flooring and a wood burner. There is underfloor heating on the ground floor. The solid oak staircase leads up to the 2 bedrooms which both have an en- suite shower room. All the rooms in the house have views of the beautiful surrounding Devon countryside and the large pond with our tame ducks.
Pond Cottage is in the grounds of our 150 acre, 500 year old, stone built traditional farm. We keep sheep and a lot of free ranging poultry. There are 3 orchards, a magnificent arboretum, now maturing nicely and established by John many years ago. He also planted, a grove of 350 Giant Redwoods, grown from seeds and there is a beautiful, secluded outdoor swimming pool.
The countryside around us is wooded and beautiful with hardly any traffic. You can hear owls at night and on clear nights see the stars. We have no near neighbours and a car is a necessity. We are in the middle of Devon, very useful for excursions in any direction.
  • We had a lovely time! We stayed over Christmas whilst visiting family who live locally. Good for our little boy who loved the ducks and sheep! We would definitely stay again when we next visit.

  • We had the most wonderful time in John and Renate’s cottage! The location was absolutely perfect for a quiet country escape. From the fresh eggs for breakfast and the cozy log burning fire at night, we really felt at home. John and Renate were so wonderfully welcoming, by showing us how the farm is run and introducing us to the animals really gave us a great insight to country living, which made the experience all that much more special. We can’t thank you enough for such a great trip, I hope to be returning with more friends and family very soon!!

    Phoebe2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay, set in amazing surroundings. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Daniel2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you John and Renate (and friends!) for making us feel so welcome and in particular for making it so fun for the children who adored all your animals and all the other aspects of the farm too! You were such wonderfully warm hosts and the house is so perfect we would not hesitate in recommending Pond Cottage to anyone looking for a uniquely charming place. Whilst there was always something interesting going on if we wanted to find you and get involved, the overwhelming peace and beauty of the place means you leave feeling utterly relaxed and restored. Great location as well - we managed to pack a lot in locally. Thanks very much again - and see you next year please.....! Rosie and family x

  • Renate's Cottage is absolutely beautiful, in a wonderful countryside setting and fully kitted out with anything and everything you may need whilst staying there. Renate herself is just lovely and provided some lovely little extra touches that made the stay even better. Hope to stay here again sometime :)

  • We had an amazing time in the Pond Cottage. Renate and John made us feel very welcome and were wonderful hosts. The cottage is lovely and clean with beautiful views. Our four year old daughter greatly enjoyed feeding the lambs, ducks and geese and we all loved watching the goslings and their feathered friends roaming around the farm. Fresh eggs every day were the icing on the cake! Even though very easily accessible, pond cottage feels like it’s tucked away from the world and we immediately felt at home and relaxed. Thank you very much for a lovely time, we can’t wait to come back!

    Martina2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is truly an amazing place and in such a great location. The cottage has everything you need to make your stay perfect, including complimentary fresh eggs and homemade Jam! We had a fab day at Ilfracombe despite the rain, and then a day at Clovelly which was beautiful (recommend good shoes to cope with the cobbles and steep hill). We would highly recommend staying at Pond Cottage it makes a perfect base with relaxing views and wonderful walks right on the door step.

We are a family of 4 who have lived and worked (and continue) as aid workers around many emergencies in the world. We met in Somalia, had our children in Sudan, and took them with us to Sri Lanka for a year. We welcome you to our lovely peaceful farmhouse. Tea and coffee will be available in the annex for you and you may help yourself to breakfast including lovely organic eggs from our chickens and fresh milk straight from the neighbouring farm. In season we have lovely apples and pears too!
The annex consists of a double bedroom with beautiful views over the countryside with ensuite bathroom. Downstairs consists of a sitting room with a log burner and a double sofa which is for the guests only. There is a small fridge, a kettle, tea, milk, coffee etc. for your convenience. Floor mattresses can be added for children. The annex joins the main house, which will give you access to the main kitchen where you can either help yourself to breakfast or join us .
  • Jane and Alistair were warm and welcoming hosts. The space is lovely and comfortable. We especially loved the log burner (already lit for our arrival) and delicious homemade breakfast! We will definitely return in the near future.

    Rach2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very comfortable stay and would highly recommend this attractive accommodation which is set over 2 floors. The bedroom is a very pretty room with a comfortable bed and beautiful views over the amazing Devonshire countryside. We arrived on a very wet day and as soon as we arrived the heating went on which made the room very cozy. The bathroom is modern with an excellent hot shower. Jane our host kept in touch, and was kind and flexible about our arrival time and provided a lovely breakfast in the morning. Many thanks again - we had a lovely and relaxing stay.

    Liz2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Accommodation was spotless and comfortable. Location was lovely and not difficult to find despite being quite "out in the wilds" thanks to helpful directions from Jane. We were made to feel very welcome and would not hesitate to stay again.

    Caz2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying at the annex. Alistair was a great host, and the annex itself is super private and well-presented. The view out of the bedroom window is beautiful and the area is peaceful. We didn’t come into the kitchen for breakfast but would have felt very comfortable in doing so; the only thing to note is that there isn’t a TV, which would have been nice to have of an evening. Obviously the annex doesn’t have its own kitchen which some would prefer. We had a laptop and were mostly out, however, so it suited us well! Thoroughly recommend if you’re looking for a lovely, affordable place to stay whilst visiting Barnstaple/Exeter/any of the surrounding areas

  • Excellent stay couldn’t fault it. Alistair was a brilliant host. Spotlessly clean and very spacious. Lovely area downstairs to sit and in the winter seems like it would be nice and cosy. Also lovely and private and lovely area very peaceful.

Shepherd's View is situated in a quiet corner of the meadow behind our centuries old thatched farmhouse. We are based just outside South Molton in the beautiful North Devon countryside on the edge of Exmoor. The hut is totally off grid allowing you to get away from it all. There is a separate compost toilet and hot shower only a few steps away. We provide everything you need to make your own breakfast on the first morning, including fresh eggs and homemade bread.
The Shepherd's hut has a comfy double mattress on a raised platform, with storage space underneath. There is a woodburning stove which makes the hut lovely and cosy in the evenings! We provide guests with everything they need for the fire - lighters, kindling, and logs - and will of course show you how to get it going. There is a small table and chairs in case you want to eat inside. The hot shower and compost toilet are housed separately, approx. 10 metres behind the hut. Cooking facilities are under a large "scout" canvas awning, and include a rustic table, chairs, pots & pans, utensils, and a two burner gas stove with small grill. There is also a barbecue. There is a chimenea to keep you warm if you are dining al fresco or sitting out under the stars - we are only a few miles from Exmoor, Europe's First Dark Sky Reserve, and on a clear night the stars are simply stunning. Waiting for you on arrival will be a cool box full of goodies for you to make your own breakfast. This includes homemade spelt bread, fresh eggs from our chickens, homemade jam and marmalade, cereal, milk, bacon, mushrooms, tea and coffee. The ice blocks can be exchanged daily in the cool box with fresh ones from the house. The site is totally off grid allowing you to switch off and getaway from it all. Don't worry though, we have plenty of torches, solar lamps to light your way to the shower and loo, and gas lamps in the catering tent. It is a 75 metre walk up the grass track from the parking area to the hut. We are also happy for guests to pitch a tent for their children close to the Shepherd's hut for an additional £10 per person per night. It's a good idea to arrive before dark so that you can get your bearings, and we recommend you bring wellies and waterproofs !!
Rural hamlet. Close to Exmoor and the North Devon Coast
  • Penny's place is a gem. Quiet - so peaceful, you wake up with the view of the sun rising over the hills in the distance. The area is lush and green with Penny's wildflowers growing around you. Very private and secluded. The log stove, the wonderfully hot and powerful shower and comfortable bed are just what I needed after a long drive and a long week in London. I loved the pantry and cooking on the gas stove outside. Wonderful.

    Michelle2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely shepherds hut at the end of the garden with grand views over Exmoor. Composting toilet and shower within 10m of the hut and kitchen is in a tent outside. Bring your boots, it’s a bit soft underfoot, but by no means unpleasant. The breakfast pack is a great touch and the homemade bread divine.

  • My girlfriend and I have just got back from a long weekend staying here. I can honestly say it has been one of the best AirBnB experiences I've ever had. The hosts were very welcoming (we got a hamper with some breakfast goodies and a cream tea upon arriving!), the hut was very cosy, well-decorated, and well-stocked, and the surrounding landscape was simply stunning. We even got to make friends with resident dog and chickens. All in all, it was a perfect getaway, and I would highly recommend it anyone who would like some time to get back to nature and unwind.

    Ben2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Penny and Ant provided a warm welcome and great hospitality throughout our stay. We liked the Shepherd's Hut very much and the outdoor cooking facilities. The hot shower was much appreciated. Great location close to South Molton.

  • Ant and Penny were fabulous hosts! From the minute we arrived they made us feel at home and had looked after every detail. The shepherds hut sits atop a hill in the beautiful organic flower garden. The views are simply stunning, I’ve never seen anything quite like it! The hut itself is SO cosy and comfortable with a wood burner for chillier nights. Penny provided the most wonderful breakfast which which cooked on the gas stove in the morning. Tea and coffee etc was also provided for us to make for ourselves. Exmoor being a Dark Skies Reserves ensured we had an unrivalled view of the galaxy both nights we were there! Stargazing is our thing and it was spectacular! Penny showed us around her organic farm which was a lovely gesture. I could go on all day about how amazing this place is and how great our hosts were! I suggest you go see for yourselves..... 😊

    Rob2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at the shepherds hut. The hut was very clean and the amenities were great. Penny is a great host, loved the cream teas and breakfast items. The location is so quiet but great to get on the road and go exploring

  • Its hard to describe just how lovely the shepherd's hut is, overlooking a field of flowers and the beautiful valley. Penny and Ant were incredibly friendly, the pretty hut surprisingly spacious and all the provisions we were provided with were absolutely fantastic, many home made. Had such a relaxing and peaceful break and would highly recommend.

Robert, who runs the pub with his wife Deborah, is very friendly and knowledgable about the area. There are wood fires in both bar and restaurant and is the ideal spot to settle in with the locals for a traditional Devon supper or local beverage at the end of a long day out in the countryside. You can meet more of the local community and buy their produce at several traditional weekly markets in the surrounding towns. South Molton (Thursdays and Saturdays) still has a cattle market in the centre of the town where you can buy local fish from Dan The Fish Man; Barnstaple ( Fridays) in the grade 2 listed Pannier Market and the small town of Chulmleigh - your closest town - has a good variety of shops, including a baker, butcher, delicatessen, several pubs and restaurants. There are lots of country pubs in the area, most of which serve both pub lunches and full lunch and dinner menus: The Bell Inn at Chittlehampton, The Red Lion in Chulmleigh and the (recently rethatched) Kings Arms in Winkleigh. The Rising Sun, by the river Taw at Umberleigh, is a famous fishing pub with an excellent and inexpensive menu and a good place to talk 'fishing'. For an authentic Exmoor experience try The London Inn at Molland, The Sportsmans Inn or the Royal Oak at Withypool. There is fine dining available at the the Michelin Star Masons Arms which serves both pub lunches and full lunch and dinner menus with modern take on British and French classics, and for restaurants with a country house setting you can try the nearby High Bullen Golf and Country Club or the 18th century Northcott Manor. GETTING OUTSIDE When night falls, the darkness in Exmoor is "absolute" "In London you can only see about 200 stars," says Simon Ould, a science teacher and Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. "On Exmoor you can see thousands." Huxleigh cottage and Kings Nympton village is set in a timeless landscape of rolling hills, steep river valleys and ancient woodland, set well off the tourist track and perfect for exploring. Public footpaths and empty farm roads take you deep into the countryside and to the neighboroughing villages and beyond. The area was considered by early Celtic settlers to have special sacred significance and the names of their many “Nymets” or sacred groves still appear on the map and give Kings Nympton and the nearby villages their name. At the heart of North Devon's exciting new UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Huxleigh is the perfect base from which to explore a varied and spectacular landscape of cliff top walks, sandy beaches and rugged moorland - all a short car journey away. Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are both visible from the hillsides surrounding the cottage. Exmoor is the closest and is designated an International Dark Sky Reserve – the first place in Europe to receive this accolade. The low levels of light pollution allow visitors to enjoy night skies that have long since disappeared from view elsewhere in England. Dartmoor to the south offers stunning views, awe inspiring granite tors, deep wooded valleys with fast flowing rivers, and rugged, wide open spaces. it is ideal for a day out walking or for sitting in the heather having a stream-side picnic. Other outdoor experiences available from Huxleigh include, hiking along the many footpaths and woodland trails, horse riding, fishing, cycling the Tarka trail and golf at Chulmleigh and the nearby Highbullen Country Hotel which also has a first class leisure complex and restaurant. WILDLIFE In the valleys below the village a network of rivers provides habitat for a wide range of animals and plants alike, resulting in many stretches of the river being protected as sites of special scientific interest (SSSI). Deer are plentiful and Otters are once again numerous and can be seen most summer evenings by anglers or nature lovers willing to remain quiet and unseen on the river bank. The Taw estuary, below Barnstaple, forms part of the UNESCO Biosphere reserve and is a fantastic place to spend the day watching the many different types of wading birds that can be found there. The number of wading birds, including lapwings, curlews and redshanks, can reach over 20,000! There are excellent opportunities for salmon, sea trout and trout fishing along the Rivers Taw and Mole, either nearby at the Fox and Hounds Hotel in Eggesford or the Rising Sun at Umberleigh, or on a variety of beats along the Taw and Mole valley. Owner has fishing one of the best beats of the middle Taw and a program of fishing can be arranged on a variety stretches of the local rivers. Please allow at least two weeks for us to arrange sporting trips and guided walks. There are also fisheries nearby for the amateur fisherman or for the family. DAYS OUT Belstone on Dartmoor and Tarr Steps on Exmoor are great places to have a picnic in rugged and unspoiled countryside and are only a half an hour away. Nearby National Trust properties – Filleigh Estate, Arlington Court, Castle Drogo. For miles of sandy beaches for bathing and surfing go to Saunton, Woolacombe and Croyde Bay. The Devon Coastal Path takes the intrepid walker along miles of beaches and cliffs in areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Braunton Burrows, the largest dune system in England, is a National Nature Reserve and borders the Taw estuary, within the core of the Unesco Biosphere Reserve . (URL HIDDEN)
  • We stayed for 3 nights. A really lovely little place, so quiet and relaxing. It's off the beaten track but well worth it getting down the windy lanes. All the amenities you need and a lovely log burner for the chilly evenings. The Grove Inn is a great place for a pint or two, very welcoming locals and we had Sunday dinner too which was fabulous.

  • Great place. Really clean and cosy, a lovely country retreat. Lovely little pub in the village and nice walks for our dogs. We did venture out every day in the car to Ilfracombe and Westward Ho! So didnt actually spend too much of our days in the village. The cottage has a lovely spacious living area, there were four of us and 2 dogs and we had plenty of room. Lovely kitchen with everything we needed. Handy to have some hand wash, lotion etc in the bathroom too. The two bedrooms were also of good size and the beds very comfortable. All in all we had a great stay here and would recommend to anyone!

  • This cottage is amazing. Exceeded our expectations. Very large, and so cozy. We loved the fireplace and they even put up some Christmas decorations for us since we stayed over the holiday. The kitchen had everything we needed and everything was clean. The location is great for getting out and doing some walks in the area. Our dog really enjoyed it too! There is a small local pub that has great food and the people are all so welcoming. We will return in the future! Thanks again!

  • We had a lovely 3-day break at this enchanting cottage in North Devon. The village of King's Nympton is a very old and traditional hamlet with a wonderful local pub. The cottage is very quaint with a log burning fire and is very well equipped. The location is great for Exmoor, and the great beaches along the North Devon coast. The hosts communicated very well and the check in was very simple with a pin number supplied for the key box in good time The lovely bottle of cider was well-received on arrival. We can highly recommend this place, you will definitely need a car and the approaching single track roads to the village are great fun! Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

  • This was our first Airbnb stay and we loved it. It was made easy with quick, helpful responses from the start. The cabin was easy to find thanks to directions given and was in a lovely, private location. It was very easy to check in and the heating was on ready for us which was much appreciated. The place was spotless and had some lovely touches. Everybody slept well in the beds and the rest of the place was spacious and comfortable. We will be looking to stay again perhaps for longer and in better weather to make more use of the facilities and the surroundings. Thanks for having us.

  • Three of us went for a girls night away, lovely place to stay. Lodge had everything we needed and more. The donkeys and ponies right next to us were adorable! Audrey was really helpful with directions and was easy to contact.

Moroccan style yurt with art deco fire and cooking facilities, set in its own wooded private area with outside fire pit. With use of glass house and seating area in private grounds including woodland and paddocks to view alpacas peacocks and many more animals. We are 20 minutes from coastal areas 15 minutes from Barnstaple, the Tarka trail and Exmoor. Also their is a footpath to the local pub from the property. We are a small friendly family run business.
  • We had a lovely time at the yurt it was very atmospheric with the rain and the woodburner.

    Carolins2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Warm welcome, fun place and great location.

    Jake2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt is incredibly cosy and surprisingly warm in winter once you've got a good fire going in the wood burner. We spent an entire day just hanging out there! We also loved the firepit and seating area right outside where we had a couple of BBQs. The whole yurt area is very secluded and peaceful even though you're only a stones throw from the sheds housing the kitchen and bathroom and the main farmhouse. There was a problem with the shower but we were notified promptly by Nick in advance of our arrival and they offered for us to use the main farmhouse bathroom during our stay instead (thanks!) which worked out well. The yurt is ideally located to visit both the coast and Exmoor if you have a car and a fantastic base for a relaxing break away from the rat race!

    Leila2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Hands down the best airbnb we have ever stayed at! Everything was perfect and the facilities were phenomenal! Can't rave about it enough 😊

  • This is a wonderfully creative corner of rural charm- wild yet stylish, peaceful yet communal. The yert was warm and comfortable despite the appalling weather we had! Great food at local pub The Stag but excellent facilities at Camp Couture to stay in also. Highly recommended.

    Tristan2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing find ...tucked away making it very private .Wonderful hosts who could not do enough to make our stay perfect. The yurt was so comfortable and lots of little thoughtful touches to make our stay even more enjoyable. The log burner a “roaring “success which added to the ambiance.

    Linda2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely rural retreat in the woodlands. We absolutely loved this place. The yurt was so cosy with some beautiful touches. We loved using the wood burner at night when it got a little chilly. We was all toasty and warm. Our little girl loved the farm animals and feeding them as well as the tree swing. We all loved noodles the farm dog - he was the cutest with such a lovely temperament. Such a beautiful place in the woodlands. We will definitely go back.

    Natalie2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Wow where do I start, what a fantastic place, we stayed in the yurt and it was amazing everything you could want and more, such a cosy place and the bed was so comfy, all the little extras were a massive surprise there was nothing you couldn't have wanted and the kitchen was fab everything you needed to cook a great meal and a fridge and freezer for your food. 2 barbaques for you to us and wood for a fire for the 1st night and plenty if you wanted to buy more, just leave the money in the honesty box, even beer wine and pizza you can also pay for by the box, what a fab service, the toilets and shower were amazing so cute and unique loved the shower made from copper tube and the tap in the kitchen made from an old kettle ingenious idea. The site is beautiful with lots of seats to sit around on and all the lovely animals, goats sheep, alpacas, peacocks, geese and the lovely family dogs amazing. What can I say about Tracey and nick but what a fantastic couple who do an amazing job so warm welcoming and friendly, we had a fantastic last night with them both and their beautiful family you truly finished our stay off with memories that we can talk about for years, anyone who stays here will have a truly unique stay in a beautiful setting, nature at its best x

  • This wonderful property exceeded our expectations, the photos just do not do it justice. There was something quirky in every corner and it was very cosy and homely. The communication before our stay was great and Millie was very helpful upon our arrival. We had a lovely stay and are just sad that it wasn't for longer.

STAY AT HOME AND COME BACK LATER! Given the latest government advice to stay at home we have cancelled bookings for April to protect our NHS services from unnecessary tourists. We will review the following months as the situation changes. Nestled in the heart of the beautiful North Devon countryside on the outskirts of the quiet village of Kings Nympton, this grade 2 listed thatched barn conversion provides a peaceful place to relax as well as a good hub for exploring the area.
There are two bedrooms which can accommodate up to 6 people. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed and next door is a large shower room. The ground floor bedroom is on 3 levels and has a bunk bed and a kingsize bed. This room also has its own ensuite bathroom with shower over. The kingsize bed has limited headroom on one side and is accessed via a small ladder (like an adult cabin bed) but makes for an exciting and cosy nights sleep. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need, including induction hob, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment and most importantly a dishwasher. Off the hallway is another toilet and also a washing machine should you need it. Situated between both Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks there are plenty of options for walkers, cyclists and lovers of the great outdoors. Fishing and shooting are also popular in this area and we are in a dark spot which makes for some incredibly starry skies. The beaches of Saunton and Croyde are 25 miles away for surfing or building sand castles. Dogs are welcome but please keep them off the furniture and out of the bedrooms. There is an enclosed garden with outdoor table and chairs, a perfect place for your pooch to mooch or for you to enjoy some alfresco dining or even a bit of bird spotting (weather permitting!)
The award winning village pub (The Grove Inn) is only a 0.5 mile walk (uphill!) and serves a great selection of locally sourced food and drink in a friendly atmosphere. There are also plenty of other great pubs and restaurants within a short driving distance.
  • great place

  • An amazing property and great hosts. One of the best places we have stayed. Very helpful and thoughtful hosts and a really interesting and comfy property. I would recommend to all.

  • We arrived after a long drive to a warm and wonderfully cosy house. With 2 adults, 2 teens, 2 tweens and our small dog we still had plenty of space for all of us. Everything had been thought of and the kitchen was really well equipped. We stayed for 5 nights and the children didn't want to leave!! A lovely 'remote' location to completely escape. The local pub had great food and they were super friendly. A real home-away-from-home. We'd love to return again 😃

    Bmk2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy, quiet place with everything we could need. It was very clean and very comfortable to stay in. We only met James and he was friendly and helpful.

    Carolyn2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Linhay is a lovely cosy retreat in the countryside, beautifully and lovingly renovated with everything you might need. We cooked in most nights but the pub up the road was delicious and welcoming, and there appeared to be plenty of others a short drive away too! Thank you James & Sarah for welcoming us and for a great stay. Would definitely recommend!

    Lizzie2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely place. Nestled just below the pretty village of Kings Nympton, this barn conversion is warm and welcoming, as are the hosts! It's a really brilliant base to explore north and south Devon, and a lovely house to come home to at the end of a busy day on the beach or on the moor. Loved it.

    Jonathan2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great property. We’re a family of 4 with a dog and stayed for 2 weeks. The property is gorgeous with plenty of space and lovely touches. It was really clean and the beds were so comfy. It is really well equipped throughout. The kitchen has everything you need if you prefer to eat in and the local pub, The Grove, is only a 15 minute walk and is very friendly with great food if you want a night off from cooking, best to book. It has a lovely garden and outside space. James and Sarah were great hosts with lots of useful local tips and suggestions but without being intrusive in any way. As they live right next door they are on hand if you have any issues, not that we did. This was a great base to explore Devon and a really peaceful relaxing setting. Would highly recommend.

    Lisa2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place in a lovely part of the world. A well thought out house, very clean and tidy, with everything we needed to have a great few days away. The pub up the road is great! Be sure to book ahead!

  • We stayed 5 nights (3 adults and a 4 year old). The cottage is superb in every respect and has everything you would need. Adele provided a welcome basket of goodies that will see you through more than 1 breakfast so no need to stop at the local Sainsbury’s in South Molton on the way! Very quiet location, but be aware that access is along some very narrow country lanes and you can expect to meet oncoming vehicles and horses! We were not disappointed by anything during our stay at the property and will book again!

  • Exmoor view is perfect for a family break to Devon. We loved the quality of the cottage and all of the extra little touches. Really well equipped with everything you need and much much more. All spotlessly clean and so comfortable. The welcome basket is also superb with great quality local products. Our kids loved meeting the farm animals. This is the best Airbnb we have stayed in.

My little boy loved the pigs and sheep and the cottage is really well designed so we all had lots of space. It's also such a great location - just a few miles from Exmoor. We did lovely day trips and came back in time for dinner. Perfect!

A bright, cheerful room on the first floor with two single beds, microwave, kettle, toaster, TV, radiator, wardrobe, etc. Lovely country location in small, quiet village: ideal for exploring North and Mid Devon. I enjoy meeting new people and aim to give guests a welcoming, positive experience such as I would want for myself. There is one bathroom shared by the two rooms. 5% discount for taking both rooms.
I have an elderly rescue collie and a black and white cat which wandered in as a kitten and never left.
Close to Exmoor National Park and an easy car ride to the beautiful North Devon Coast. In the opposite direction Exeter is about an hour drive away.
  • Celias place is in a great location in meshaw, a small village surrounded by beautiful countryside, just a short drive (9mins) from south Moulton where there are shops and a great fish & chip shop too, and supermarket sainsbury's which I like. When finding the house it is right near st john, meshaw church I put that into google to help me find it as the postcode takes you further up the road. Celia has a dog called skye and a cat who I didn't see. I love animals. The room is clean and fresh has all you need a tv, microwave, kettle & toaster beautiful decorated right next to the shared bathroom which is shared with the other guest room, but it was not let when we stayed so we had it to ourselves. For a light breakfast Celia has provided a helpful yourself breakfast in your room of cereal and toast and her lovely homemade marmalade. I parked at the side of the house where there was always parking, plenty of parking too. Celia is a lovey lady who I had a few good chats with as I'm a very chatty person, I love a good natter. I will definitely return when I'm that way again.

The living space is cosy, centered around a traditional log burner but with 48" flat screen Smart HD TV with Freeview, Blueray DVD player, selection of DVDs, free WiFi and Bluetooth speaker.  We have provided a selection of books, cookbooks, board games and local information leaflets as well as any local papers and magazines that you might find useful during your stay. There are some lovely walks and cycle rides straight out of East Trayne and the neighbouring villages offer a variety of pubs within a short drive. North Devon is a unique part of the country, combining breathtaking countryside with a varied and spectacular coastline. East Trayne is a perfect location to explore both.  We are three miles from Exmoor and nearby South Molton is referred to as its gateway.   The beautiful, varied landscape of Exmoor National Park will take your breath away from lush green forests to wide expanses of moorland and deep valleys.  Look out for the Exmoor ponies, the Historic Tarr Steps and perhaps take the steam train from Woody Bay (Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Trust) above the stunning Heddon Valley. As you cross Exmoor to Lynton and Lynmouth, with its funicular water-powered lift (Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway), carry on to Valley of the Rocks and you reach the most beautiful and varied coastline imaginable.  Then to the sheltered cove with it's rockpools at Combe Martin, along to Ilfracombe showcasing the preserved Victorian Tunnels Beaches (Tunnels Beaches) and the imposing statue of Damien Hirst's 'Verity' guarding the harbour, which offers a variety of sightseeing and fishing trips by boat or perhaps do a day trip to Lundy Island on MS Oldenberg. Then over to Woolacombe, Puttsborough and Croyde for sea, sand and surfing with more than a few little hidden coves offering peace and quiet even at the highest of seasons.  Walking and cycling are a must with a multitude of paths and byways plus the South West Cost Path to traverse. For the little ones there are many theme parks and attractions to enjoy including The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Watermouth Castle and Exmoor Zoo to name but a few.

  • Wonderful accommodation, very thoughtful host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and really liked the very generous, well stocked hamper with local produce. The cottage is warm and comfortable with as many facilities as one can ask for. Beautiful surroundings. Quiet and very peaceful. Ideal for a getaway from big city life. Adele is also very quick to respond and makes the most delicious lemon drizzle cake I've ever had! We strongly recommend East Trayne cottages.

  • Lovely old property in the heart of witheridge. Has lots of period charm and decent amenities inside . Very close to 2 village shops and a great local pub with the food being great. Close enough to reach north coast of devon within the hour and other days out. Only small issue is you dont get much outside space apart from path leading in but that's the style of house. Julie is quick with answering questions also.
