Places to stay in Holt
Our beautiful grade 2 listed refurbished Georgian cottage is in the centre of Holt close to all the excellent shops, pubs and Byfords. The north Norfolk coast is just a couple of miles up the road with amazing views of Cley, Blakeney and Wiveton. The cottage is great for families and children and has a fantastic courtyard rear garden with outside seating and a bbq.
  • Lovely stay and great location. House was lovely just took a bit of time to heat up!

  • What a gorgeous cottage and beautiful surroundings....local amenities and ease of communication with both James and Jenny was brilliant. A wonderful place to explore such beautiful places, towns, beaches and tasty places to eat and drink...and then so cozy to come back and put the wood burning fire on. We are a family of four and our holiday was loved by us all....and we are already planning when we can next return. We would highly recommend this place.

  • Lovely stay in Holt, the house is lovely and the owners were brilliant at communicating. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Thank you.

    Abbie2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here as a family of 4 - it's such a lovely little cottage in a brilliant location. Has everything you need with the bonus of being able to BBQ in the back yard. Parking restrictions are a bit of a pain but not too restrictive. We tended to park outside overnight, move down the road at 9am then bring it back when we headed out later in the morning with arms full of beach/kids stuff! The surrounding area is so nice and lots to do in easy driving distances. The house itself is beautifully decorated and was plenty big enough for us. The only negative comment I can think of is the double bed needs a new mattress! Can thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Bird Box is a traditional Norfolk 'brick and flint' cottage which has recently been restored to reflect modern living whilst retaining its Victorian character.
Bird Box cottage is set in a little Square tucked behind Byfords Holt's landmark restaurant/deli . You'll be in the very heart of Holt with all the local shops and restaurants a stroll away. The cottage is a one bedroom Victorian terrace which has recently been sympathetically and lovingly restored.
Holt is a unique town with scores of independent shops and mouthwatering eateries. Bakers and Larners department store is a local landmark and its incredible food hall won the coveted National Food and Farming Award for best deli in 2019. The Black Apollo coffee shop is 'small but perfectly formed' and produce their own unique blends and roasts of coffee. If you like clothes you'll love Holt with boutiques brimming with treasures for your wardrobe! Holt is also very canine friendly and recently, 'Woofers and Barkers' a shop catering especially for our four legged chums opened on the High Street for the 'top dogs' in town.
  • This property exceeded our expectations. Immaculately clean and comfortable with extra special touches around the cottage; this was a true home away from home! This is the only place to stay when visiting Holt and the surrounding area. Kindest regards, Jamie & Jordan

  • The bird box cottage is an absolutely beautiful little cottage in the lovely village of Holt. The cottage was absolutely spotless and the hosts were brilliant. We couldn't have asked for more. The cakes and bottle of cava for my partner's birthday were a lovely little touch as well. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be returning.

  • A fantastic find in Holt, a stone's throw from all the local shops and pubs. It's set off the road and in a quiet area that looks over a nice garden, and the space itself is brilliant and spacious - with a wood burner and cosy underfloor heating making it ideal for the winter. The Annex has been done up really well with two great bathrooms and a well stocked kitchen. Great communal areas with huge sofas and loads of floor space - ideal if you have a baby or toddler like us. The main bedroom was huge and the king bed extremely comfy and very large. The second room is much smaller but ideal for a cot or for one/two children (there are two decent single beds). The whole place has been decorated really well, with nice touches everywhere - from books to local info and games. Wifi works, there's private off-street parking, and the hosts Toby and Zoe are great, providing guests with a little hamper of essentials such as tea, crisps, local apple juice, bread rolls, milk, biscuits etc etc. Would definitely recommend anyone looking for a place in Holt near the Norfolk coast.

    Felix2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous location, clean, warm, comfy, beautifully decorated accommodation. Lots of thoughtful touches, even a chocolate on the towels in the bedrooms! We were a group of 4 girlfriends having a much needed break away. Ideally suited to a family of 4 in our opinion.

    Kim2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A really cosy but spacious place to stay perfect for a few days away. Great location with Holt and all its eateries so close by. Perfect for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as we were. The kingside bed was super comfy as was the corner sofa downstairs. Bonus having a downstairs w/c also ! It is a lovely place to stay to explore the local beaches and town, would highly recommend! The hosts left us with a complementary hamper with local apple juice, milk and prosecco also which was most kind and appreciated!

Early check in. Late check out. My place is close to the wonderful North Norfolk Coast. It is a lovely, airy modern apartment in the beautiful, historic Georgian market town of Holt which is brimming with interesting and eclectic shops and eateries. It is within 5 miles of the sea. The apartment is perfect for solo adventurers and couples but can also accommodate a third person as there is a sofa bed in the lounge. Furry friends (pets) welcome as there is access to a garden and private deck.
A light, modern apartment which is entirely self-contained with its own front door. The large lounge leads on to a fully equipped modern kitchen. The shower room is located in the large double bedroom and any third guest would need to appreciate this. The garden is south facing and very well maintained. Perfect for pets and their owners who enjoy the sun.
A unique apartment, in a quiet setting, but within minutes of the town centre. It can be used as a perfect base from which to explore and enjoy this outstanding part of the country with its breath-taking coastline and stunning sandy beaches, as well as the opportunities to have fun closer to home by discovering the range of eclectic shops and restaurants that are only minutes away
  • Cosy, stylish, welcoming and, five minutes from the hub of Holt, great host too! If only all stays were so well thought out....

  • This is such a beautiful place to stay. It’s inviting, warm and has everything you’d need. The centre of Holt is only a few minutes away and there are lovely places to visit along the coast too. Jane is a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble, we’ll be back soon.

    Sally2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay with a fabulous host. The Flat is impeccable and the garden a real delight. The place was spotlessly clean and we were warmly greeted by Jane with lovely additional touches like bread, milk, eggs , jam and croissants and chewy treats for our dog. Close to town yet in a quiet space , what more could you ask for . We would highly recommend Tracey, Paul and Wilfred

  • Jane was lovely and helpful and her place is great/stylish/comfortable.

    Barney2020-01-01T00:00:00Z

  • A great place to stay in Holt. There is plenty of space for two with a large kitchen and big living room which opens out onto a deck area and garden. The house is full of individual and 'quirky' little design features which make it fun and unique. There is a good selection of books, DVDs and CDs if you need some entertainment on a rainy day. Or its a 10 minute walk into town for a bit of shopping, a coffee and cake or a meal. There was a fresh loaf of bread, butter, jam and milk waiting for us and plenty of tea and coffee - which means you can move in and start to relax straight away. Definitely recommended.

The Dolls House is a traditional Norfolk cottage dating from around 1880. The space has been completely renovated with all the luxuries you will need for a cosy getaway. The traditional features of the cottage; exposed brickwork, double ended woodburner and winding staircase mix perfectly with the brand new fitted kitchen, electric shower and super cosy beds. Nestled in the heart of historic Holt, you are perfectly located to explore the array of shops, restaurants and cafes on offer.
Weston Square is in the heart of Holt whilst being quiet and peaceful. The cottage itself is cute and cosy with beautiful log burner and sofa to snuggle up in the evenings. The Dolls House is a traditional Norfolk cottage which we renovated in 2017. Please be aware, the age of the cottage does mean the staircase is rather steep.
Holt is a bustling town with classy boutique clothes and lifestyle shops, quirky cafes, vintage/antiques and gorgeous places to eat. The famous Byfords is at the end of the Weston Square, Wells deli just a minute away, the beautiful Folleys is perfect for afternoon tea or a slice of gorgeous homemade cake.
  • Parents loved their stay. Lovely touches, great location and loved the wood burner in the lounge xx

This pavilion is set at the rear of a long garden of a grand desgn type house. It’s totally secluded and accessed from a private path. There is car parking in the front drive. It is an enchanting and peaceful place set among pines. I designed the building in 2012. It's classic scandi feel, a comfortable flowing space, open plan. It is ideal for one / two people, or 4 people . Your kids will love the separate funky bunk room. The double bed is in the main large living open plan space with full wall to ceiling views of woodland, a comfy sofa, a kitchenette/designer table and chairs, make this a cool and relaxing area. There is a shower room, as with all the design is modern and stylish. There is a separate room for the washing machine, open plan wardrobe and changing room. The outside space is a large wooden deck under canopy and a garden with lovely view to the adjacent meadow. Magical to sit /eat out on a summer evening. You need to check with host before booking as peak season 2 ,3 and 4 nights prevail. Ie summer.Xmas
The coast, forests, national trusts houses and parks. Enchanting English seatown villages brimming with pubs and gastro dining. Art galleries and Chic shopping. No shortage of charming afternoon tea stops . Golf, cycling, boating, fishing, wildlife marshes. All this within a ten mile range and much more on offer further afield. General feel of the area is mellow, understated and relaxed. Being close to nature.
  • Ger's modern garden pavilion was gorgeous, and well appointed. We were on a cycling trip through north Norfolk and as bolthole from which to explore Holt nearby, it was perfect. A seamless experience.

    Tom2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, beautifully designed and an amazing space to spend some time. Good location not far from Holt with some nice dog walking routes straight out from the Airbnb and also a short drive away (eg Sheringham Park).

    Daniel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • If you stay in Ger’s Scandinavian bungalow expect to relax. It’s in a quite location close by some very interesting places to visit. Superb living space with great art on the walls. It’s so superb you might forget you are in someone’s own house and not a hotel. Our family loved it. Our children cried when we had to leave.

    Barry2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was very nice, nestled in a lovely garden but with the necessary privacy and a calm, relaxing setting. Something different for everyone and plenty of nice touches you wouldn’t ordinarily get

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay at The Pavillion. Perfect for a cosy night away with the family. Mega stylish, contemporary stay.

    Kim2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed in Ger's place for a long weekend - the location was great and it's perfect if you like walking and nature as well as small quaint villages! Would recommend to friends and family - we had a lovely time!

    Amy2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The exact house was a little hard to find as we arrived after dark but once we did it was great! Geri’s pavilion is very stylish and clean and suited our needs perfectly. The house was well stocked with towels, blankets, tea bags, etc and our dog was able to use the garden. We were able to meet Geri as we left who was warm and approachable. Many thanks!

    Naomi2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at The Pavilion. This is a great location to explore and visit the best Norfolk has to offer. The kitchen tap is not an issue, and instead maybe if people engaged their brain a little, they could work this out for themselves, it is hardly technical. The Pavilion was clean, tidy, bright, airy and cosy. The natural light was a blessing, and the view from the master bed was a welcome and cheerful change as daylight broke, given the beautiful wooded setting. I cannot understand why people would moan about anything on offer here, a great place to retreat. As I said, the place was clean, but alas, it is a worry to read reviews from disgruntled visitors taking a vacation, as I seldom worry about a tiny amount of dust here and there, certainly when you could be enjoying a lovely break in North Norfolk. Visit and enjoy. Great host, made us feel welcome. Plenty of parking on site too.

Good communication with the host and the small touches made it feel like we were being thoroughly spoiled - flowers , welcome pack of goodies. We Very well equipped and we wanted for nothing and we appreciated all the information on the local restaurants etc. We’ve stayed in several Airbnb properties and this is one of the best. Highly recommend.

  • Our stay at Pebbles is the best Airbnb experience for us so far. The cottage is sparkly clean and well-equipped. Dagmar’s thoughtful arrangements including the many towels, cutleries, complimentary snacks and drinks, etc just made us feel so warm and at home. We’ll definitely book again the next time we visit Norfolk area. Thanks Dagmar for our wonderful stay.

  • We arrived from overseas at Pebbles cottage late Christmas Eve and it was so great to walk in the house with the Christmas tree lit, X-Mas crackers on the table, wine in the fridge, tea and coffee for breakfast. And anything else we needed for the first night that we couldn’t bring on the plane or go to the shops to buy ( because everything is closed). The cottage was perfect, enough room for everybody. It was so nice to be able to invite the grandparents ( who live around the corner) to come for Christmas lunch. And of course, Holt and North Norfolk are fantastic places to go on holiday. I hope we get to go back soon. Thanks for a great stay in Pebbles Cottage. Annick.

The layout of the cottage was spacious and usable and spotless. We will be returning!! Highly recommend this place!!

Blueskies was very clean, had everything we needed and the one query we did have was quickly resolved when we contacted the host. Host and family live at the same location so were there for a friendly chat but not intrusive. A peaceful location yet easily accessible for exploring Cromer, Norwich and Holt etc.

  • We have just returned from a perfect weekend at Duck Cottage; it was cosy and warm, spotlessly clean; the bed was comfortable, the bedlinen and towels were lovely and the garden was pretty and fully enclosed so safe for our dog. The house is prettily furnished with lots of nice touches and has everything you could need. Sharon answered all my questions really quickly and was super easy to talk to. We are trying to find a weekend when we could go back!

  • Lots of guests have said how beautiful it is and of course it is.... however it was all the little touches that made the stay easier and more comfortable that made it for us. The book of notes in the kitchen, helping us with local info was really appreciated. Will hopefully stay there again. x

  • A beautiful, well equipped and thoughtfully put together cottage that provides everything you could possibly need in a home away from home holiday. Social space downstairs was amazing and bedrooms very comfortable. Generous bathrooms make it room enough for everyone. Garden space will be superb in the summertime. Location is ideal to explore the area, with many coastal villages and towns close by. The local village of Holt has most things you should need and is a lovely way to spend a few hours wandering around the various lanes/alleys which hide some lovely boutiques and coffee shops.

Really good communication with Sharon, spotlessly clean cottage which has recently been refurbished with all the details / glasses / cooking equipment you would need. The garden and parking has also been done to a really high standard so safe for a dog and small child. Superb location near to the Kings Arms and coast - couldn’t have asked for any more. Thanks again and hope to stay again soon! Zoë and Mark Harris

  • Wonderful stay in a beautiful home from home. Photos don’t quite so it justice - comfy beds, fluffy towels and lovely touches like wine and coffee on arrival. Sharon and Nick were very quick to respond and everything was spotless. Visited Holt, Blakeney and Holkham and saw seals at Horsey beach.

Shire Cottage is a beautiful two bedroom house in the heart of Holt. With the finest shops and eateries in the area on your doorstep, this is the perfect place to stay and explore the North Norfolk coast and countryside.
  • Wow! What a wonderful stay we had here. The cottage itself is so cosy and was ideal for the four of us (my wife and children aged 6 & 4) to snuggle up and spend some quality time together. The major positive though is the location....not just because it is in the heart of Holt but because it is perfect as a base to discover all North Norfolk has to offer. We visited in winter and went for lovely walks on beaches and at National Trust places in the day and then cosied up in the evening watching films, playing games, making dinner or popping to a local pub. Being directly opposite Byfords is amazing....I’d get fresh pastries from there in the morning and one evening we had their takeaway pizzas for dinner which were delicious. Whilst we went as a family it would be perfect for a couple on a getaway. Oh, and I can’t stress enough how much of a bonus the private drive is. Really don’t hesitate if you have the opportunity to stay at Shire Cottage. Thanks Chloe, we’ll be back. Bonus tip for families with children between 3 & 10 years of age....make sure you go to Penthorpe Natural Park for the day.

Set in the heart of the glaven valley, you don’t have to worry about the sea conditions to enjoy this peaceful hideaway!. Attractively furnished with many of the finishing touches coming from the local potttery/gallery “Made in Cley”, the open-plan ground floor offers a well-equipped compact kitchen, a bright kitchen/dining area with double doors opening into the private courtyard and a cosy sitting room with wood burning stove. On the first floor you are greeted with a large bedroom with picture window providing lovely views over the church and valley and a comfy king-size bed and en-suite shower room. Nestled between the coastal villages of Blakeney and Cley-next-the-Sea, Wiveton is an ideal location to enjoy the beauty of the glaven valley with its wildlife, birdlife and walking opportunities, whilst being located just one mile south of the coast road. There is an excellent bus service operating along the A149 coast road, the 'Coasthopper' which is great for walkers in that the bus route shadows the Norfolk coast path. This enables one way walks to be undertaken with relative ease and is a great way of visiting the coastal villages without the need to use your car. The Wiveton Downs is a registered "Dark Skies" site where it is possible to see the northern lights, or aurora borealis, and this area of the UK boasts some of the darkest skies in the country being that it is unaffected by light pollution and so making it ideal for star gazing. A super, secret hideaway on the outskirts of Weybourne village, tucked down a private drive, just a few minutes' walk from the beach, coastal path and village amenities. As the name implies, Mill End forms part of a converted water mill (and still has the mill stream running through the garden) and retains many character features, with beams, vaulted ceilings and traditional Norfolk pamment flooring. Well Cottage is a short walk from the centre of the Georgian market town of Holt with its selection of galleries, restaurants and independent shops. Surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Holt ridge, it is an ideal place to explore and is great for cycling, walking and birdwatching. The coast is only five miles away and the choice is quite diverse from the sandy beaches of Cromer and Sheringham to the shingle of Salthouse and the marshes of Blakeney and Cley. Holt is a pretty market town located on the north west point of the Holt-Cromer ridge. It’s 23 miles north of Norwich, 35 miles east of King’s Lynn and 9.5 miles west of Cromer. The town has its own unique character and charm. It’s very popular with tourists and locals alike. Photographers, hikers, cyclists, tourists, families and artists are drawn to the town because there’s so much to see and do. Visitors enjoy browsing the shops, art galleries, bookshops, antique emporiums and exclusive boutiques. There’s the annual summer arts festival in July and the town’s Christmas Lights from late November. Holt has something for everyone to enjoy. History Holt is an historical town that dates back to Roman times with Peacock Lane forming part of an ancient Roman road starting from the coastal town of Salthouse. Roman remains have been unearthed in the north of the town. The name Holt has its origins in the Anglo-Saxon word for ‘wood’. This elegant town is included in William The Conqueror’s Doomsday Book of 1086; the entry describes Holt as a market town with a port (referring to nearby Cley-next-the-Sea). Back then, Holt had several watermills and was described as ‘a thriving town’. It remains so, to this day. Since the year 1080 onwards local traders from all over this part of Norfolk flocked to the market place in the centre of Holt to trade with one another. The market was an important part of the lives of the town’s residents until the 1960’s when the market was no longer thriving and unfortunately closed down. Recently, there have been calls to resurrect the market; indeed there have been several surveys and plans to do this but none have been successful yet. The Great Fire On 1st May 1708 the town suffered a devastating fire. Sadly the fire destroyed the majority of the town in barely 3 hours. The fire started at ‘Shirehall Plain’ and rapidly spread throughout the entire market town, engulfing the timber houses. The fire was very fast and extremely violent, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. Sympathy for the town’s folk of Holt was spread far and wide across the country, with many people from all over the land offering help and donations to rebuild the devastated town. Georgian Holt The hard working people of Holt rebuilt their town with stone, flint and brick. Many stylish Georgian buildings were constructed to replace the medieval ones. The church of St Andrew’s which was very badly damaged in the fire (it’s thatched chancel was totally destroyed) was repaired in sympathy to its original Norman design. Holt has had an eventful past and visitors to the town can see a variety of different types of architecture as a result. There are grand Georgian buildings. The town’s charming back lanes and yards are mostly from the Victorian era. They offer visitors the opportunity to discover unusual quaint shops and offices that are nestled away from the high street. Holt has lots of ‘hidden gems’ to catch your eye! Today’s popular opinion is that if the fire had not destroyed the town, then Holt would probably look similar to Lavenham in Suffolk. Gresham’s School Gresham’s School has been an important part of life in Holt for hundreds of years. The school’s grounds are vast; they spread out and dominate much of the town. The school has buildings close to the market place and several playing fields near the centre of town. The main school buildings, with additional sports fields, are located only a small distance away up the Cromer Road. The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham who was the uncle of Sir Thomas Gresham, the founder of the London Stock Exchange. Back then, the school was exclusively for boys. In 1900 it converted from a grammar school to a fee-paying school and in 1971 Gresham’s changed to a co-educational school. The grasshopper is the crest above the Gresham’s coat of arms (and was the family crest of founder, Sir John Gresham) Famous pupils include Benjamin Britten, Sir James Dyson, W H Auden (the school’s theatre is named after him) and more recently, the actress, Olivia Colman (‘Peep Show,’ ‘Twenty Twelve’ and ‘Broadchurch). Bakers & Larners Holt has it’s very own department store offering high quality goods and first class customer service. Bakers & Larners was founded in 1900 and today offers lots of different departments including home, kitchen, beauty, clothing, sport and gifts. The food hall at Bakers & Larners has many delights; you can browse the aisles for wonderful food and wines from all over the world, with lots of quirky and unusual products you wouldn’t find anywhere else. It’s the perfect place to stock up on treats before the start of a holiday. Byfords The town of Holt is a fun place to visit with lots of exciting places to discover and enjoy. One of the most popular places to go to is Byfords cafe, restaurant and B&B. Here you’ll find a wonderful delicatessen, café, restaurant and B&B. It has a relaxed atmosphere and serves tasty locally sourced produce. Their deli has a fine selection of olive oils, cheeses, meats, olives, plus there’s a large selection of ‘high quality’ frozen ready meals, frozen breads and pastries. There’s a salad bar with lots to choose from for a speedy take away lunch, fresh bread, pastries, cakes, coffees, teas and ice-creams too! You can find Byfords in what is believed to be the oldest house in Holt (their cellar dates back to 15th Century). The building survived the Great Fire of 1708 and a subsequent fire in 1906. For over 100 years the building belonged to the Byford family – back then it was a hardware store and ironmongers. And many more… There’s no shortage of other great cafés and restaurants in town including The Kings Head, The Feathers, The Lawns, Number 28 (High Street), The Barn Café-Bistro (in the Appleyard), Horatio Mugs and The Owl Tea Rooms. Holt Country Park Surrounding the town of Holt are 100 acres of beautiful woods and heathland. The Holt Country Park which is located just a short distance from town used to be a venue for horse racing, where members of the aristocracy competed against one for the ‘Town Plate.’ Now it’s a mixture of heath, farmland, forestry and tranquil woodland. The majority of the trees here are Scots Pine, Oak and Silver Birch. This sustainable woodland is also a haven for wildlife where you’ll find a diverse mix of flora and fauna. If you’re lucky you may spot the deer which roam free. As the park’s only a short distance from the town centre it’s very popular with families. The Holt Country Park is managed by the North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) and during the holidays there are often cultural and environmental events to enjoy. There are two car parks – a small fee applies in the main car park (off the Norwich Road), whilst there’s a free car park (but no facilities) on the other side of the park (Baconsthorpe Road). The Holt Country Park has lots of different trails to follow (some are wide and suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs), a tall viewing platform, a visitor centre, children’s play park, picnic areas and toilets. For those of you that love a challenge, there are lots of orienteering posts to search for. The Holt Lowes Holt’s second green space, The Holt Lowes, is a strip of land which lies adjacent to the Holt Country Park (on the south side). The Lowes are mainly heathland and cover approximately 120 acres. Historically, the land was given over to the poor folk of the town where they were able to graze their cattle and fetch gorse and wood. During ‘The Great War’, The Lowes were used for military training; today, it’s open to the public to enjoy. For wildlife, this area is vital and records going back to the 1700’s reflect this. In 1954 the area was declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI); since the 1980’s The Lowes have been run by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust who have carefully managed the site to prevent the encroachment of trees. Plants include the carnivorous Great Sundew(Drosera anglica) and Black Bog-rush (Schoenus nigricans). Many different species of dragonfly including the rare Keeled Skinner thrive here. Spout Hills The last of Holt’s open spaces is ‘Spout Hills’ which is approximately 14 acres and can be found to the west of the town. It’s often overlooked but it’s definitely worth a visit, especially on a fine summer’s day. It’s a great spot for a picnic (you can easily stock up in town with some goodies first). There are several footpaths which lead to Spout Hills and it’s only a few minutes walk away from the town centre. Just ask a local to point you in the right direction! Many years ago Spout Hills supplied Holt with water. The old, disused reservoir still exists but the pumping station was dismantled during the 1950’s. During more recent times a committee has been working hard to try to conserve and restore the area so that we can enjoy it for many years to come. Work undertaken includes managing the woodlands (which have overgrown since the reservoir was decommissioned) and keeping the pastures clear, by removing scrub. Holt Festival Each summer Holt hosts its own Summer Arts Festival that runs during the 3rd week of July (immediately after the schools break up for their summer holidays). It’s a popular event that attracts many visitors to the town and it showcases the strong artistic tradition the town and the surrounding area inspires. Previously the Holt Festival has hosted performances and talks from Sir John Hurt, Stephen Fry, Michael Palin, Sandi Toksvig, Michael Buerk, Germaine Greer, Roy Hattersley and David Starkey. Musical artists have included The Stranglers, The Proclaimers, 10cc and Elkie Brooks. Holt Christmas Lights Late November is when the town of Holt switches on its Christmas Lights with a grand ‘switch on’ event. There are usually street performers. You can browse local shops and enjoy some hot food. A glass of mulled wine is never too far away. To celebrate the Christmas lights switch on there’s a flurry of fireworks marking the moment with a bang. Holt is enchanting during this time of year as the Georgian town is decorated in beautiful, twinkling white Christmas lights. During December the majority of shops are open 7 days a week – even more time to enjoy the magic of Christmas and to buy your festive gifts!

  • Situated right in the centre of Holt and very quiet though Well Cottage is a very cosy little cottage where we had a wonderful weekend. Although a little house it offers enough space for five persons in three bedrooms. Nicely furnished with a view for cosy details I can highly recommend to stay there. The cottage seems to be quite old which gives it a particular charme!

  • This cottage met all of our needs as a family of four. I hadn’t realised there would be a travel cot available - not sure if this was listed and I missed it. Was useful to have two bathrooms with two children.

  • Fantastic cottage! Spotlessly clean, lovely space and perfectly located in the centre of Holt close to all the shops and tea rooms/restaurants. Would recommend to anyone.

  • A lovely, homely cottage in a super location. The hosts had left some nice little touches to make us feel welcome and the whole house was well supplied. Plenty of shared space and bedrooms, considering we were a group of 3 adults! I would highly recommend this stylish little space in the fantastic Holt.

  • What a little gem! A cozy couple of nights and daily beach visits was just what we needed. Our breakfast goodies were tasty, even the Prosecco fairly arrived while we were out! Karoline gave us useful tips about the area and responded quickly to any questions. We only live 25 miles away and relished exploring the area. Holt is a gorgeous town, great food and quality independent shops.

  • A group of 10 friends had a lovely weekend away. The location was great and the property was perfect.

    Claire2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the lodge was nothing short of delightful. Such a beautiful property finished to a very high standard. We had a mixture of adults and small children and it was very comfortable for everyone. We especially enjoyed the open plan kitchen/lounge with lovely fireplace and the hot tub was a real treat. Shona’s communication was excellent and was there to meet us on arrival. There area has lots to offer with nice places to eat and Cromer was a fun visit also. Only wish we had stayed longer. Hope to come again some day!

    Paul2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Shona’s place is superb. It is even better than the pictures. It was perfectly clean and clearly very well looked after and cared for. The living area is a large space with 3 sofas accommodating all of our group of 9 adults and 2 babies with ease. The kitchen space is perfect and a large table that we were able to all fit around was such a plus. The hottub is also a huge selling point!! The bedrooms are all a good size with two large rooms both with Ensuites and three other rooms (two with double beds and one with two singles). I couldn’t recommend the place more highly for large groups with small children or babies. The property is located about a ten minute walk, all on footpaths, away from Holt itself, and is also 500 metres away from the entrance to Holt Country Park (no footpath but easy to walk to). Thanks for a wonderful NY stay!

    Mark2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge is amazing, it is so clean and the decor is beautiful. It has all the amenities you would need to have a relaxing stay and Shona was quick to respond to any pre arrival queries. The rooms are all spacious and there were plenty of bathrooms for all guests. Would highly recommend to others.

    Karla2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was perfect for a large family group. All but one bedroom are on the ground floor, which was good for the less mobile. The large living room and kitchen/dining areas worked well for Christmas celebrations. The house was spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm, and was well equipped. Shona could not have been quicker to respond to enquiries and was helpful each time.

Get back to nature in style at this beautiful, peaceful woodland retreat, just one and a half miles inland from the popular coastal village of Weybourne. Liz's Lodge is a fabulously luxurious Scandinavian A-frame dwelling, set in a small copse within the secluded 'woodland village' of Weybourne Forest. Furnished in an elegant, contemporary style with great attention to detail, and clever use of space, the owner has created a very relaxed and comfortable environment, in keeping with its lovely, tranquil setting. The lodge has three bedrooms, one of which is downstairs, and two bathrooms. The stunning open-plan and light-filled living space has one totally glazed wall to take full advantage of the woodland scene outside. This is a superb place to socialise, as well as relax and take in the view - slide open the door and you can bring the outside in. On warm days you have a choice of two decked, glazed balconies, where you can enjoy some alfresco dining or just lie back, look at that great big Norfolk sky and listen to the birds! A little way down the hill is Weybourne Station, where you can take a ride back in time and catch the Poppyline steam train to either Holt or Sheringham. It's about a twenty minute walk down to the main village where there is a well-stocked village store, and a good pub serving food. The Coasthopper bus passes through on a regular basis all year round, and stops at all the coastal villages from Kings Lynn to Cromer. Liz's Lodge really is the perfect place to stay if you like to keep fit; there are some pretty woodland trails to explore from right outside the door, the National Trust's Sheringham Park and Kelling Heath are close by, and the North Norfolk coastal path is a short drive (or two mile walk) away. Guests can also enjoy complimentary membership at the nearby Woodlands Leisure Club, easily reached by car, or via the woodland footpath (about a mile), where there is a heated 25m x 10m adult pool, a children's pool, sauna, steam room, spa bath, gym and fitness suite, as well as beauty spa. Ground Floor: Entrance hallway With coat rack and sideboard. Stunning open-plan living space A spacious full height, light filled open-plan area with spectacular woodland views. Kitchen area With modern fitted units in a U configuration, offering plenty of storage space, work surface and breakfast bar to one side with three stools. There's a large freestanding fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, an integrated electric oven and microwave, and an induction hob with extractor above. The adjoining Dining area has a table with bench seating to either side. Sitting area With some striking Origami wall art, a three-seater sofa, a two-seater sofa, armchair, coffee and side tables, wide screen Smart television and DVD player. A large sliding glass door opens to the decked patio area. Cloaks/Utility room With storage cupboards, washing machine, tumble dryer, washbasin and wc. Master bedroom With a king-size bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, lamps and hairdryer. From here an external door leads out to the upper decked seating area. Double bedroom With a double bed with bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers, hooks with coathangers. Twin bedroom With full-size twin beds, bedside table, lamps, wall-mounted clothes hanging rack, and under bed clothes storage boxes. Family bathroom With bath and shower over, vanity unit with wash basin, mirror over, WC and heated towel rail. Outside: There are two decked areas with seating and lighting, which are enclosed by glass panels, safe for both children and dogs. The ground floor decked area has a gas barbecue and gate that leads into the immediate garden and woodland area beyond. There is parking to the side of the lodge with space for two cars. Additional Information Well-behaved dogs are welcome (a charge of £30/dog is applicable), but are requested to respect house rules, and should always be kept under control within the forest to avoid disturbing the wildlife.
  • A real hideaway in the woods with the birds and squirrels! The lodge was lovely and much bigger than we expected. All possible equipment in the kitchen to satisfy any budding chef and a lovely open family area for socialising. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are cosy and clean. We found the location was perfect for exploring the North Norfolk coast with most trips we made within 15/20 minutes of the lodge. Holt is a lovely little town with some superb shops and eateries. We went seal watching via Beans Boat Tours - well worth the money. Also the steam train from Sheringham to Holt was a good experience. We were v lucky with unseasonably bright and warm weather for February which all added to our stay. We’d definitely recommend it to others looking for a peaceful retreat away from it all but within an easy short drive from the coastal towns.

  • A lovely, cosy and quiet little place in an ideal location for exploring the beaches and local villages and towns. There is a good pub with excellent food only 5 minutes walk away. The beach is nice but with pebbles so there are many beaches nearby that are sandy. Beds were extremely comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped.

Stone Cottage, a delightful 200-year-old detached cottage, is reputedly the oldest house in the sought after village of Sharrington and was, at one time, the village post office. Full of character, the cottage has been renovated in recent years and, under the current ownership, has been transformed into a really lovely, welcoming and comfortable holiday property, with modern touches and quirky decorative bits and pieces. The age of the cottage means the beamed ceilings are on the lowish side, the stairs are quite steep (there is no handrail), and the width of the doorway to the twin bedded room is 'slimline'. There's a fabulously cosy open-plan living area, divided by a large double sided wood burning stove to keep you warm in the winter months. In the summer, there is a really lovely private, enclosed garden to enjoy. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the cottage will appeal to families and couples, who want to enjoy this beautiful part of rural North Norfolk. Just three miles from the ever popular Georgian market town of Holt, one mile from an award-winning farm shop and restaurant, and within easy driving distance of the beautiful coastal villages of Morston, Cley and Blakeney, there is something on offer for everyone. Additional Information Please note: The Apple television and Amazon Fire stick are accessible via the television - this gives full Internet TV and connection to BBC iPlayer. It is also connected to amazon Prime films and box sets. These are free of charge however guests are respectfully requested to not buy films that are chargeable or connect via their own amazon account. There is a sound bar under the television unit for Bluetooth connection that can be connected to play guests own music from a phone/tablet. Two well behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge). Norfolk winder stairs are, as with older character cottages enclosed, steep, curved and narrow. Here they are carpeted and have no hand rail. Ground Floor: Entrance porch A glazed entrance door leads you into the cottage. The porch has a quarry tiled floor, coat hooks and shoe rack. Entrance hallway The hallway has a tiled floor and there is a step down into the open-plan living area. Open-plan sitting / dining room A very cosy relaxing area, with antique agricultural finds adorning the walls. A brick chimney breast divides the room and houses the double sided multi fuel burner (a starter pack of fuel will be provided in the winter months). The ceiling is beamed across the room, being just slightly lower in the sitting area. There is a farmhouse style wooden table with six painted chairs in the dining half, and two comfy sofas with throws and cushions in the sitting half of the room. There is a wide screen Apple television and Amazon Fire stick, DVD player and board games for cosy nights in. Double glazed windows overlook the pretty garden. Kitchen A small but functional room, open to the dining/sitting room. Painted units house plenty of equipment and there is a bright red Smeg fridge/freezer for that retro feel. There is a Stoves induction cooker, slimline dishwasher and microwave. Utility/pantry A really useful room off the hallway, with shelving for food storage, and a place for the washer/dryer. Master bedroom There is a king size bed, painted wardrobe and matching bedside tables, a chest of drawers, and wall mounted bedside lamps. Windows overlook the garden. A light-filled, pretty room. Downstairs shower room A double shower cubicle, with glazed screen to one side, wash basin and WC. First Floor: Landing/study area There is a small landing area at the top of the stairs, where there is just enough space for a desk with stool and an easy chair - a good spot to read and write. Upstairs bedroom suite A door from the landing leads into a small room, with a 2'6"single bed, chest of drawers and easy chair. A further, narrow doorway, from within this room takes you into a twin bedded room with iron bedsteads, easy chair, chest of drawers and television. Due to sloping ceilings, there is some restricted headroom to both rooms. Bathroom A fully tiled room with white suite comprising bath, wash basin and WC. Outside: During the summer, there is a really lovely private, enclosed garden to enjoy. Gravelled area with table and seating for six. Further seating area under pergola with wicker furniture and fire pit.

Our 15th C family home, sits in an acre of garden in the village of Plumstead. There is a luxury double bedroom with an additional bedroom. Relax and enjoy home cooked delights in the breakfast room before exploring the wonders Norfolk offers.
Church Farmhouse still has traces of its 15th Century origins. A large family home in brick and flint, it has countless features giving glimpses of the changes it has undergone throughout the ages. It sits in an acre of garden where old apple and plum (not forgetting the large white mulberry) trees stand beside borders full of colour and interest Through the gate there is a large striped lawn with a burgeoning veggy patch on one side, while chickens scratch way and lay their delicious eggs, on the other. Beyond, there is a grass tennis court and sweeping views of the countryside and our medieval church.
Plumstead is a remarkably peaceful village surrounded by farmland. It is just five miles from the striking Georgian town of Holt with its array of unique privately owned shops and restaurants. It also boasts a highly regarded Summer Festival at the end of July. North Norfolk is famous for its coastline with its fabled marshes that stretch from east to west. It is world renowned for birdlife with Cley just 20 minutes away. Beaches range from the traditional at Sheringham to the breathtaking expanses of sand and dunes at Wells and Holkham. For the more restless there is superb sea sailing at Blakeney and Morston or you may simply wish to take a trip to see the seals from either of these small harbours. We are lucky enough to have no less than four outstanding National Trust "properties" Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park (the rhododendrons and azaleas are exquisite) and finally Blakeney Point. For those who like to strike the little white ball you will be spoilt for choice for golf links, Sheringham being the pick. However, even the most seasoned campaigner, as the six foot putt is lined up for a half, may be startled by the sound of steam and the smell of smoke and ashes as a locomotive climbs the gradient on the North Norfolk Railway from Sheringham to Holt, offering spectacular views of the coast. Nonetheless we urge you to resist these delights for part of your stay, leave the car and explore the enchanting paths that take you through wildflowers and woodland that radiate out of our village. If you are a stargazer you will be in for a treat as the night sky is strikingly free of manmade light. If you would like to venture a little further afield we can lend you bikes so that you can meander down sleepy lanes and seek out our remarkable heritage of medieval churches.
  • Great hosts and lovely attention to detail in the accommodation, we would definitely return.

  • We just had a wonderful two nights stay at Mary and Johns beautiful home. We felt incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived and the hospitality was outstanding throughout. The rooms are beautifully decorated and cosy, with very comfy beds and soft linen. Tucked away up a secret staircase, it felt like we had the entire place to ourself. The homemade breakfast was one of the best we’ve ever had and it was perfect for our 19 month old son with lots of toys and all the necessary amenities he required left out for him. We look forward to coming back - Thank you Mary & John!

  • Such a lovely, cosy house, with such great hosts. Couldn’t be more helpful or accommodating. A breakfast to die for and lots to see in the area. Highly recommended, thanks

  • Just had the most fantastic stay at John and Mary’s beautiful home. They were incredibly hospitable, the beds were huge and comfortable, everywhere was spotlessly clean, lots of little touches like small vases of fresh flowers everywhere and their own soaps, shampoo and conditioner provided, the cooked breakfast was delicious as well as all the cereals and fruit, yoghurt, the hugest selection of wonderful teas, and they welcomed our dear dog like their own. It was great to have a whole wing to ourselves including our own little kitchen. Would definitely recommend and would love to return. Thanks again!
