It is an old house with a history of more than 100 years, surrounded by the rich nature of Okutama, Tokyo. With the changing scenery of the mountains and the fresh air of the seasons, you can relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The warm scent of wood and calm atmosphere unique to an old private house will soothe your soul, and you can enjoy meals and reading while listening to the birds chirping on the veranda and in the garden. We have a space outside that is perfect for barbecues and breakfast, and you can enjoy your meals in nature. There are also many sightseeing spots where you can get in touch with nature, such as Mt. Ontake, Lake Okutama, Kokusai Tsuriba, and caves, so it is recommended for those who want to spend an active time. Enjoy a special time in this old private house where you can feel the tranquility and natural blessings that you can't find in the city. Shimomura no Hanare

The accommodation, "Shitamura no Hanare", is just over an hour's drive from the city, and offers a peaceful landscape in a nature-rich rural area.We named "Shimomura no Hanare" after our family business name. The accommodation can be separated from a compact but private space, and you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons from the garden room.In this area, cars were not yet popular in the early Showa period, and mainly horses, cows, goats, chickens, etc. were raised and lived in horse shops.There is a renovated horse house on our property, making it a quaint space.The horse house is also a private space for guests.Children are welcome, up to one small dog is ok. In addition, although it is seasonal, you can enjoy shiitake picking, bamboo shooting, strawberry picking, yuzu harvesting, and more.

Richard Flavin's "Washi House", Saitama Pref.

Welcome to Richard Flavin's Washi House! Richard Flavin (1943–2020) was a Japanese paper artist originally from the US. He studied design in Boston and came to Japan in 1970. He later studied woodblock printing and developed a deep interest in the production of washi. He also cultivated the raw material for washi paper, paper mulberry. We invite those interested in washi paper and art to stay overnight and enjoy this space, reminiscent of a washi paper museum, including these unfinished areas.
