Shimomura no Hanare

The accommodation, "Shitamura no Hanare", is just over an hour's drive from the city, and offers a peaceful landscape in a nature-rich rural area.We named "Shimomura no Hanare" after our family business name. The accommodation can be separated from a compact but private space, and you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons from the garden room.In this area, cars were not yet popular in the early Showa period, and mainly horses, cows, goats, chickens, etc. were raised and lived in horse shops.There is a renovated horse house on our property, making it a quaint space.The horse house is also a private space for guests.Children are welcome, up to one small dog is ok. In addition, although it is seasonal, you can enjoy shiitake picking, bamboo shooting, strawberry picking, yuzu harvesting, and more.

Feel the extraordinary feeling of the garden and outdoor dining where you can run around, the living room has a large sofa and fireplace. The bathroom can also be enjoyed in the JAXSON jetted tub, a large sauna for 4 people in the metos, and a rain shower in the water bath. Welcome to Richard Flavin's Washi House! Richard Flavin (1943–2020) was a Japanese paper artist originally from the US. He studied design in Boston and came to Japan in 1970. He later studied woodblock printing and developed a deep interest in the production of washi. He also cultivated the raw material for washi paper, paper mulberry. We invite those interested in washi paper and art to stay overnight and enjoy this space, reminiscent of a washi paper museum, including these unfinished areas.
