Places to stay in Te Awamutu
Nice modern, warm, clean bedrooms, two rooms both downstairs in your own private space with your own toilet, TV and table tennis table. Shared (with us) shower and kitchen upstairs. Quiet neighbourhood, rural outlook, right on the edge of town. Sit on the deck and enjoy the view. This is a great location as we are fairly central and close to Mountains, Beaches, lakes and lots of great Tourist Attractions such as Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton.
We are a family and live here too. Your rooms are downstairs which is part of our house. We have a friendly cute dog called Neo, that loves to socialise.
Small rural town, safe walking and nice parks to explore.
  • The bedrooms are in the basement.

  • Great hospitality Rebecca and hubbie . Great people . Aspect of home has lovely views of the waikato . The 2 bedrooms mean flexibilty and the downstairs location more privacy . Great to have our own fridge and full large TV with Netflix . The wifi was great, as Te Awamutu is a country town so normally this can be a problem . Hosts were friendly and talkative and relaxed an asset to NZ for visitors from overseas . The tea and coffee downstairs was great . The main kitchen was lovely .All in all agrat experience of Te Awamamutu and easy access to Waitomo and the Kiwi house etc

  • Overall hassle free, fit-for-purpose and very good value for money. Rebecca was a great host, able to accommodate us on very short notice, and quick to communicate. Check-in was a breeze even though they were out at the time. We stayed one night, and were gone early the following morning. The rooms are downstairs from the main house, and we were able to take our pick. Both were tidy and freshly made up. The downstairs space had everything we needed - fridge, toilet and coffee-making facilities, and we had access to the upstairs shower and kitchen if needed. The property is lovely, and was in very good proximity to Te Awamutu, and our main destination - Pirongia Forest Park. They have a friendly dog who was very pleased to see me in the morning.

  • A stunning and beautiful farm with plenty of room to roam. Great views, a lovely styled interior, and great communication from Penny and family.

    Tore2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful stay! Penny’s place is situated on a lovely cattle farm just 5 minutes drive into the town. The orchards that surround the house are beautiful and we picked lots of fruits to have during our stay. The house is extremely well decorated and comfortable. I would compare it to a boutique farm hotel, where all the little touches have been thought about. The beds are extremely comfortable with quality fabrics, air conditioning is both bedrooms, nice eco bathroom amenities, clean white towels, separate beach towels etc etc. Penny’s place is what all Airbnb’s should strive to be. Thank you for a great stay!

Beyond our expectations. Once your checked in, you really don’t wanna leave. I wish that I could stay on longer. I’ll definitely be back again. 101% recommended. • This was our first night in New Zealand and it was wonderful! Very new, all mod cons with amazing touches that made our first night so much easier. Kay and family were so welcoming, allowed our toddler to play on the children's toys outside. Showed us in and left us to ourselves. The outside spa is a must!

    Samantha2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay! So many homely touches and extra little goodies. Kay was such an amazing host! We were sad when we had to leave, will definitely be back :)

  • A new beach theme tiny unit as described. We were privileged to be Kay’s first guests to enjoy her well equiped self built unit. Well thought design for a small space. If you don’t mind loft style sleeping (will be uncomfortable for very tall people) then it is a nice, quiet place to stay.

  • Authentic pasture environment, lovely animals, enthusiastic landlord, if you love the rural environment and domestic animals, this is a good choice, but at the same time you have to adapt to the huge temperature difference between day and night, insects and the smell of pasture.

  • A great getaway on a small farm. Friendly host and nicely decorated. FYI the bathroom facilities are shared if you aren’t a couple/travelling alone as the other sleeping area is a separate building with a single and double bed. Also don’t stay here if you are uncomfortable around dogs.

    Guy2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It's a lovely, cozy countryside cottage. The grounds/gardens are beautiful and we loved getting to spend some time with the animals. Lousie was friendly, communicative and very helpful. 10/10 recommend this place for a weekend getaway.

  • Sam’s place was so great! Perfectly located a few mins off the main road so an excellent option for accommodation while travelling around NZ and particularly on your way to Waitomo. CAVES. Super close to towns with all the shops you need, it’s a great place to crash for the night. The pictures also don’t do it justice. We thought the room was way nicer than we anticipated. Sam is friendly and super helpful too. Highly recommend.

  • We instantly felt at home when we arrived. The guest suite is very homely and our hosts were very accommodating, especially when it came to our baby, who took to them like a duck to water. They gave us a high chair and toys and were very caring. Our stay was very comfy and we’ll definitely stay again next time.

We enjoyed sitting out on the little deck, looking out for Charlie the cat, the gang of ducks and the guinea fowl, hanging out in the cabin reading, walking around the beautiful garden, and eating the delicious and generous breakfasts :) A real highlight of our trip, we would definitely stay again.

    Laura2020-02-20T00:00:00Z

  • The School House is cosy and full of history. I enjoyed reading about the school and it’s past. Steven was welcoming and came for a chat. He recommended a local pub for dinner, which I have to say was awesome. About an hours drive to Waitomo Caves and other attractions in the area. The eggs, bread, milk and cookies were appreciated and a nice touch.

  • We were four of us and this space was more than just comfortable for us. Colleen is such a wonderful host and we would love to go back again! She was there to receive us (even though we checked in late at night) and she even helped us in planning the activities that we could do nearby. The best place to stay if you’re planning to go Waitomo, Cambridge and Hamilton.

    Nischay2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice accommodation on the ground floor of Colleen's house. Two bedrooms which would sleep 5, plus a lounge area, bathroom an dseparate toilet. The place is well fitted out with refrigerator and microwave; also a washing machine. The swimming pool looked inviting but there just wasn't enough time. I would definitely try to book again there again if I'm ever back that way.

You share the house with them but there were 3 bedrooms and a bathroom dedicated to us. We also had a common space for our use, and use of the kitchen. The location was perfect for us. It was about 25 min from the Waitomo Caves and 45 min from Hobbiton. We definitely recommend this as a place to stay.

A 7 year old modern house which is cosy , warm, and quiet, with modern facilities in a semi rural location on the edge of Te Awamutu. A quiet spot, although only a short three minute drive to the towns' amenities. Te awamutu is the gateway to Waitomo area, and has cafes, and eateries in the town. We are centrally located for a day trip to Raglan, Rotorua, Hobbiton, Tauranga amongst many places. We are two hours south of Auckland. WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE CHILDREN.
Quiet and feels secluded despite being at the end of a cul de sac. Private courtyard and outside areas. House is modern and cosy, and sits on 3/4 acre of progressively maturing gardens. The garden was featured in the towns garden ramble last year and is evolving all the time. There are two outside eating areas, a barbecue and plenty of little seating nooks around the garden. We have many fruit trees, grow veggies and keep chooks for eggs and ducks for pleasure. We are mature ex pat British of 10 years in New Zealand - and are professionals, although myself being part time now. I have recently embarked on pottery and am in the process of building a little studio. The bedroom has a double bed, bedding and towels included. There is an electric blanket on the bed, and a wall heater should you require it. There is fan should you require this. YOU NEED TO VACATE YOUR ROOM BY 10AM ON THE DAY OF DEPARTURE AS WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE STANDARD OF A CLEAN AND FRESH SMELLING ROOM YOU WILL HAVE RECEIVED. YOU ARE WELCOME TO LEAVE YOUR LUGGAGE SHOULD YOU WISH TO POP OUT BUT THIS IS AT OUR CONVENIENCE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED.
This is a quite subdivision and similar entry homes. Neighbours are friendly and helpful. At we are at the end of the avenue we get no through traffic and it is peaceful. We border paddocks with a small number of cows (3-4).
  • Alison's home is in a lovely semi-rural setting. the room is very comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. I enjoyed sitting out in the garden in the evening and listening to the birdsong in the morning.

  • Alison is a great host with a nice accomodation which we really can recommend !! It was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed to lean back in our room and take the time easy. There you will find your own bathroom and a separate toilet. Everything was perfect. This is the nice way to live via Airbnb. We travel frequently with Airbnb and this accommodation is really one of the upscale! Everything is taken care of and you feel at home. I really need to mention that the towels, sheets are fresh and tidy hot! Often you travel with airbnb and you do not know how the hosts are and how much attention is paid to cleanliness and comfort. Alison is really great! We can highly recommend the accommodation! Gladly again:)

Their home is a beautiful new building so everything was clean, stylish and worked well. The bedroom was just as advertised, and the bed was very comfy. • If you come to this house, you will meet amazing and interesting people, for some time you will become part of their beautiful, large and friendly family. Learn to relate to life with ease and a smile, learn a lot of new things, and most importantly - the secret of family happiness lasting a lifetime. We arrived late, having booked a room half an hour before arrival. They asked John if he had a grill, to which he said: “I will find” and found, borrowing from the neighbors! We made dinner and had a great time. For breakfast, they also made a seafood grill and had breakfast all together, talking with the owners before noon. Thank you very much for your hospitality, dear John and Pauline.

Beautiful, private hideaway with amazing views over the Waikato river and farmland. Only a few minutes drive to closest supermarket, Mystery Creek events centre, The Velodrome and Hamilton City. A nice walk down the road to the famous Punnet cafe also, and a local 4 square ( convenience store). This cottage has everything you need, including a full kitchen with dish drawer and oven, a washing machine and heat pump/Air con. All linen provided and basic breakfast supplies.
Homely cottage that has almost everything you need, we don’t have a clothes dryer is all! The breakfast supplies are very basic-in case of emergency style, or midnight snack. All you need to do is let me know your arrival time and the cottage will be open for you. It is very dark here at night due to the rural location, please use a torch when walking to and from your car as there is no power for lighting unfortunately.
Walking distance to the amazing Punnet eatery and Country Providore gift store- well worth a visit for brunch!! We also have a new 4 square convenience store just down the road, and a New World supermarket in the opposite direction within 4kms. There are footpaths in a 6km walking loop which include both stores.
  • Jacqui’s private guest house is located on a rural estate with heavenly views and a gorgeous upscale home away from home. Modern, beautiful with a washer and wonderful high tech amenities... what more could you want? The sunset was breath taking and we will be coming back. So much privacy. The photos don’t do it justice. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a romantic or nature getaway.

  • Yet another unforgettable experience in this air bnb! Jacqui is an amazing host and the house is absolutely wonderful. Very clean, amazing amenities and amazing views of the rolling meadows and the Waikato river. The city is only an 11 min drive away. I would 100% recommend Jacqui's place to everyone. I'm already planning my next stay here!

    Ronak2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jacqui's place was amazing - the best we stayed at on our trip. Great private location overlooking the river and country side, fantastic amenities including a great little kitchen, comfy bed and good water pressure in the shower. Breakfast included was a lovely touch too. We even got a little visit from a puppy who wandered over from the main house to say hello. Would absolutely stay here again!

    Claire2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in a great location! We spent two nights here and went to Hobbiton, Waitomo caves and Rotorua. The place is neat and tidy and very clean! There is onsite parking, the unit is very secluded and we didn’t even see our hosts (not that we needed anything as everything was supplied!) beautiful sunsets and clear bright stars can be seen at night. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend! Thanks!

    Tom2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully appointed, self contained cabin with the most amazing views of the Waikato river and a bird watching paradise! A great location as within easy reach of Auckland, Hamilton, the Waitomo caves and Rotorua so a great base from which to travel around. Jacqui was a great host and allowed us privacy but was always on hand if we had any questions. We also had the bonus of Jacqui’s friendly black Labrador paying us an occasional visit! Would definitely recommend staying here.

    Rosemary2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay, great location, unbelievable view, adorable dog. We love cooking and your kitchen had everything!!!. The AC help a lot during the heat. the best part was, late check out which gate us some sleep before the flight, thank you once again. We be back for sure.

The atmosphere is very Zen and welcoming, with a slightly bohemian spirit that makes you feel immediately at ease and relaxed. • Our stay at Ann’s place was wonderful. Ann is such a lovely host, really knowledgeable, easy to talk to and so friendly. Our room was very nice, with a comfortable queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. Ann also allowed us to use her kitchen including her cooking utensils to prepare dinner which we thought was super nice of her. The next morning, Ann served us a delicious breakfast with cereal, toast, homemade marmelade and honey from her bees. Ann’s puupy dog Phoebe was around as well, making our stay even more enjoyable since we are both dog lovers. We are hoping to come back one day!

  • Ann is a warm and hospitable person. She has a beautiful house in lovely, serene surroundings. We loved staying there and would go back any time. Ann’s dog, Phoebe, was an additional delight.

  • Ann is an amazing host. We immediately felt at home and had really interesting talks with her. Her house is sparkling clean, the pool so refreshing and the views amazing! Breakfast is wonderful, too, you couldn’t ask for more. Ah yes: Phoebe (the dog) is super cute!

  • Great stay, lovely place and nice dog! We had a great stay with Ann!!

    Eveline2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Ann's. The location is great, amazing 360 views from the house (and the pool!) of the cool landscape around while only a short drive from Otorahanga (and Waitomo caves). The bed was very comfortable, and a great bathroom (all sparkling clean). Best of our NZ trip so far. Breakfast with homemade honey and marmelade with amazing view. And not to forget, Ann's great hospitality! We also really liked her enthusiastic little dog Phoebe, but for the not dog lovers, you don't have to run into her as she was usually in her own place. All in all, would definitely recommend and we would have liked to stay longer than one night. Thanks Ann!

Rotorua and Tauranga are 90 minutes drive. Close to the many walks and tramps on Pirongia Mountain. Raglan beach on the west coast is an hours drive away. Kawhia is a small settlement on the west coast 45 minutes drive. Te Puia hot springs are on ocean beach and can be found 2 hours either side of low tide. i will lend you a spade to dig your own hot pool! Plenty of off street parking Secure storage for mountain bikes for those exploring the area and the many mountain biking tracks. Bath robes are provided, as are cosy electric blankets for cold nights. A continental breakfast is provided, consisting of juice, choice of cereals, fruit preserves, yoghurt, toast and home made jams and jellies, and tea and coffee
Our small village is both picturesque and historic. The local information centre has some wonderful displays of early life in Pirongia and there are two existing redoubts (fortifications) to explore. The numbering system for the houses is a little different, in that they run erratically, not in the normal odds and evens - it can be a bit confusing unless you know! My street numbering goes from fifty to seventy two (me) to ninety next door!
  • It is a lovely quiet place to stay, this place is conveniently near to the Raglan and Waitomo region. The host Vicky arranged everything thoughtfully, we enjoyed breakfast prepared by her and got lots of helpful hands-on guidance about the neighborhood. We highly recommend this place.

Then there is her wonderful garden which is an absolute delight. Vicky leaves no stones unturned to make sure you have the most comfortable and restful visit. The stay here is totally worth it and you will not regret it! This is Airbnb done right!

  • Kim&John‘s Studio is in an excellent condition and had everything you’ll probably need. It has a well equipped kitchen, a huge bathroom and a comfy bed. Kim was very friendly and we enjoyed the company of her lovely dog. Highly recommended!

    David & Tina2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Kim’s place for one night whilst passing through the area. Although I wasn’t sure about arrival time, Kim was very responsive and flexible. The guest flat is a self-contained studio with a small kitchenette, spacious bedroom / living area, and very comfortable bathroom. It has been recently refurbished, was very clean and comfortable. The farm is a beautiful spot and very quiet, I really enjoyed the view out over the fields towards the hills in the distance while eating breakfast in the morning ☺️. Kim’s dog Whistler was even more welcoming than Kim herself and kept me company both in the apartment (when invited in!) and on a walk around the beautiful lake and native tree forest area just next to the farm — all very welcome since I was travelling alone! I certainly hope to stay here again if I’m lucky enough to come back! Thanks Kim (and Whistler)!

    Cyrus2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet, private setting. Large, open wheelchair accessible space is modern, made of quality materials and is very appealing in design. John, Kim and lab dog, Whistler are very kind and helpful. Love their woods walk through four generation family gardens and pond!

    Eric2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Kim, John and their dog Whistler are wonderful! We had an amazing stay. It’s a great space located on their beautiful farm. The apartment is spacious and modern. Kim was lovely and welcoming - she provided local tips for dinner and gave us a personal walk around the property. 10/10 would recommend. If we make it back to the North Island, we’ll be staying here again!

The Farm Cottage is in a rural setting but only about 4km from Cambridge township and all its amenities. "The Farm" is 10 acres of lush grass - home for our brown-eyed beauties, a cat and one adopted chook (chicken). You'll have your own private space with outlooks over the farm. We visit the property to feed the animals.
Although the cottage looks new; the original building was very old. The wooden floor is original. It is fully self contained with galley kitchen, leading onto the laundry, with washing machine and drier. The bathroom has a shower and vanity with separate toilet, which is accessible via the bedroom or laundry. There's an electric blanket on the queen-sized bed, wool duvet and an extra blanket if you need it! Freeview TV available. Plenty of parking space available, cottage has it's own driveway and carport. Continental breakfast supplied.

HI and thanks for checking out our little piece of Hamilton gully paradise. Right on the edge of Ranfurly gully, our little apartment is close to everything, offering privacy, peace & a little luxury. Down a long drive, at the end of a cul de sac, you’ll be woken by native bird song, not traffic noise. Hamilton is fortunate to possess a handful of gullies (small valleys carved out by streams) where native birds thrive & bush quietly regenerates. These hidden gems are the green lungs of the city.
The 30m2 apartment is recently renovated with cool white walls, lofty trusses, recycled native timber & hardwood finishes. It’s fully insulated and double glazed, with heating for winter, and sliding doors & fans for summer. We're TV-free, but there’s bluetooth sounds & unlimited wifi with 100/20 fibre. The bedroom has a queen bed with nice linen (guests tell us it's very comfy), and drawers to put your clothes should you feel the need. The living room has a lovely intimate view out into the gully. There’s a couch, table, books & mags. The kitchenette includes a fridge, convection/microwave & induction hob (not to mention tea, Raglan Roast coffee and organic milk) and everything you need to self cater (byo food & wine). The bathroom has a shower with thermostatic mixer, open skylight, & gas-heated water for extended showers. There’s also a small deck where you can sit or barbecue on warm evenings, soak up the gully ambience and listen to the birdsong.
Hamilton's central location makes it an excellent base for visits to Hobbiton, Waitomo Caves or Raglan. We're super central, close to the CBD, Waikato Stadium, Claudelands Event Centre and Chartwell Mall. Our street is a bit of a melting pot, a traditionally working class neighbourhood that’s progressively gentrifying. Our neighbours include an accountant, furniture maker, retired publisher, scientist, Red Cross worker, new mum & maths teacher. It’s a great place to live – and bring up kids. If you have time, borrow a bike or two and ride around the corner to the Heaphy Terrace shops (supermarket, butcher, barber, piercing boutique, bakeries, takeaways, fruit & veg shop, pharmacy and liquor store). Or stroll down to Claudelands Park (less than 1km away) with its destination playground, walking and jogging paths and Sunday Farmers Market. A network of footpaths and "cut-throughs" gets you down to the Waikato River in minutes, and its 30km of shared paths.
  • We loved staying here. The apartment is very comfortable and right on a gorgeous park. Jeff and Callie were very helpful and we fell in love with Rosie, their sweet pup.
