Places to stay in Te Anga
Our property is located just 2km from the beautiful Marokopa Falls at Te Anga and 30 km from Waitomo. The house is on an elevated spot above the road. It is very private with beautiful views of the surrounding limestone bluffs and cliffs and overlooks the Marokopa river. If you are after a peaceful location in a rural area this is perfect for you. Please bring food for your meals with you as there are no amenities close the BnB. Toi Toi cafe is open from 10am over the summer for light snacks
My guest area is a self-contained space attached to our house but with its own separate entrance. It is a studio type layout with a kitchenette and separate shower and toilet. Guests also have their own balcony to enjoy our beautiful surroundings. The kitchenette contains a 2 burner hob and a microwave and fridge. All cooking utensils are provided. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk is provided to all guests free of charge.
Our property is also home to Toi Toi Coffee. The coffee shop is open from 10am daily and has a range of hot and cold food, ice creams, cold drinks and snacks. We also have the scenic Marokopa Falls and Natural Bridge within a few kms of our location. Both attractions are very popular and are a must see. The lovely Marokopa beach is also just over 15 minutes away.
  • Great place with beautiful views around!

  • The place is brand new and Paula and her sister were so kind. There was an issue with the warm water in the appartement but they let us use their shower and we received a refund. The appartement is very stylish. We enjoyed our short stay very much, wished we could stay longer.

Our home is nicely situated just off a quiet rural road with awesome views of the hills around us. The guest room is a private room outside of the main house, with a bathroom wash house and small camp style kitchen area only a few meters away. We are a 10-15 minute drive to Marokopa Beach to the west and similar distance to Marokopa Falls, PiriPiri Caves, and The Natural Bridge to the east.
This is a warm and welcoming family home. With three young children, all the chaos and wonderfulness that happens in a young family will be here! My husband and I are from GB and the US, but have been kiwis for some years. Our property was the home of the 1911 Marokopa Dairy Factory, which made butter and sent it up the river to many places all around New Zealand. We enjoy maintaining our home and property and look forward to welcoming you here. Our nearest place to get grocery supplies and fuel is in Otorohanga, an hour away from our house. So please be prepared for that! Basic camp style kitchen available for guest use, including 2 burner cooker, small fridge, sink, cutlery, plates, bowls, cooking pots, etc.
To get here: Drive past Waitomo, about 45 minutes to our house. On the way you will pass the Natural Bridge, the Piripiri Caves, and the Marokopa Falls. When you get to Te Anga (a blink and you miss it sort of place!), follow the road left towards the beach. We will be the first house by the road you come to on the left side of the road. Signposted 'Awamarino'.
  • Everything was perfect in what we expected from this place: proximity to nature, a simple life on the farm with the comfort of a large room and warm amenities. With the added bonus of a family welcome like only kiwis can do. Legendary.

  • Joanna and family were so welcoming. They have a piece of paradise in the mountains. It was a cool, stylish and different place to stay and we hope to stay again. There are lots of cool things to do in the area, we stayed 4 days and had places to go everyday. Great place for families! Thanks for the memories!

    Kate2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was cosy, homely and very stylish. We loved the shared spaces and Joanna's family hospitality. The farm animals and milking goats were a hit with the children. An evening walk on the beach was beautiful.

  • We had the most wonderful stay in a airbnb we have ever had before. The guestroom and the bathroom are just perfect and also Joanna and her family is so lovely! We really enjoyed it. Thanks for everything again!

  • Joanna and Simeon are great hosts. They've got a great farm life. Chickens, friendly dog (who will go on a hike with you), goats, and beautiful landscapes. This is a great place for low maintenance travelers. Warning: No mobile phone coverage (though there is wifi), and BYOCoffee. Thanks, Joanna and Simeon! I hope to see you again.

  • Our stay at Ann’s place was wonderful. Ann is such a lovely host, really knowledgeable, easy to talk to and so friendly. Our room was very nice, with a comfortable queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. Ann also allowed us to use her kitchen including her cooking utensils to prepare dinner which we thought was super nice of her. The next morning, Ann served us a delicious breakfast with cereal, toast, homemade marmelade and honey from her bees. Ann’s puupy dog Phoebe was around as well, making our stay even more enjoyable since we are both dog lovers. We are hoping to come back one day!

    Eddie2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is a warm and hospitable person. She has a beautiful house in lovely, serene surroundings. We loved staying there and would go back any time. Ann’s dog, Phoebe, was an additional delight.

    Gunita2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is an amazing host. We immediately felt at home and had really interesting talks with her. Her house is sparkling clean, the pool so refreshing and the views amazing! Breakfast is wonderful, too, you couldn’t ask for more. Ah yes: Phoebe (the dog) is super cute!

    Melanie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is a wonderful host and a kind gentle person. She made us feel very welcome and at home in her beautiful house.

  • A very kind, enthusiastic and meticulous aunt who treats the beautiful homeland of Chinese people.

    Xiangyu2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Ann's. The location is great, amazing 360 views from the house (and the pool!) of the cool landscape around while only a short drive from Otorahanga (and Waitomo caves). The bed was very comfortable, and a great bathroom (all sparkling clean). Best of our NZ trip so far. Breakfast with homemade honey and marmelade with amazing view. And not to forget, Ann's great hospitality! We also really liked her enthusiastic little dog Phoebe, but for the not dog lovers, you don't have to run into her as she was usually in her own place. All in all, would definitely recommend and we would have liked to stay longer than one night. Thanks Ann!

    James2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing place to stay if you’re spending time in the Waitomo area. The farm is easy to find, Sandra is warm and kind, and you get a great big space all to your self with an incredible view of the valley. Highly recommended!

  • Spotless clean, very comfy & a wonderful host. My only regret was staying only 1 night

    Michelle2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra’s place is sparkling clean and in a terrific off-road pastoral setting. Absolutely quiet and charming, on the family farm. The bed was luxuriously comfortable and we slept the best in three weeks of travel. Besides the great large space, with kitchen, a real treat is meeting Sandra and her dog Mojo. One of the kind and wonderful people in the world. Location is great, too, as it is a simple drive to the caves and Waitomo Village. Sometimes one arrives at a place to find it not quite as imagined from descriptions. Sandra’s place was above and beyond the description. Absolutely lovely.

    Jan2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra was an awesome host! Lovely place, clean, welcoming with great views of farmland and beautiful sunset. Great suggestions of things to do locally. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet and getting away from the city life 😊.

  • Where to start? Hospitality: awesome. Dave invited us in and he did an amazing job making us feel at home. Laurel checked up on us, and made the most delicious breakfast. There were all these small conversations that made us feel so welcome. House: the room where we stayed in was super clean, as was the bathroom. It was big enough for the three of us. The house has an enormous yard, where our 2 yr old son loved to run around. But the best part: location. It’s so peaceful, with an amazing view, and only 20 min away from the Waitomo caves. We wished we stayed an extra night here, and will definitely come back when we visit New Zealand again.

    Kim2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible is an understatement. Thanks Laurel & Dave for sharing your home & valuable experiences of the local area. Every suggestion was spot on or above. Any guests who would love to live like a local with great company, this is surely the place to be.

    Patricia2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Laurel & Dave’s place has great view. The bed is very comfy, and the place is clean. They are also very helpful if you are asking them for any local knowledge. Recommend to everyone!

  • Would highly recommend staying at The Neuk, especially if you enjoy a good chat with amazing hosts. Although it is 30 mins from Waitomo Caves, it’s worth it for the view and hospitality. The cats were adorable and the bed was very comfortable. Thank you Laurel and Dave for making us feel at home!

    Melina2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location for visiting the Waitomo caves. Offers a spectacular view and friendly kitty company. We loved staying here and wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Laurel and Dave!

    Valisa2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • The best stay ever! Highly recommended. The view is stunning, and most importantly outstanding hospitality from Laurel and Dave! We were welcomed with hot tea and cookies after our Waitomo caves adventure! Laurel helped us to heat up our dinner. The bed was so comfortable, shower room was great and there were alot of thoughtful touches! (: Laurel even has great space in the fridge to store all our food and she gave us a Ice block to keep our cooling bag cold. You can't ask for a better host! The breakfast was great too, with hot coffee, hot toasts and pancakes, cereals and many jams for you to choose from! (: most importantly, Laurel spends time with us, shared with us local tips and stories. We really enjoyed our stay here!

    Hui2019-12-03T00:00:00Z

  • Excellent stay! The house looks smaller in the photographs but in reality it is spacious and has an excellent use of spaces. We were apprehensive about the fact that there was no stove in the house but Wendy has two electrical appliances for cooking. We couldn't ask for more, a calm space, surrounded by nature with all amenities, extremely clean and even toys for our baby. Thank you so much Wendy!

    Nathan2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked in the garden up on a ridge, this cottage has everything you need for a restful stay near Waitomo. Close to the town of Otorahanga, it was easy to nip down for dinner and come back to a lovely space in which to relax. There was beautiful fog in the morning if you're up early, and lots of beautiful cows grazing nearby. No wifi, but easy enough to get by without it for a short while.

    Ariane2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and would highly recommend the Secret Garden Room for anyone visiting the Waitomo caves. Wendy and her family immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable. The room is set in a very quiet area and every window has an incredible view. The place is very clean and has everything you need. We particularly enjoyed breakfast in bed whilst watching cows outside the window!

    Hannah2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, private and spacious cottage located less than 15 min from the famous Waitomo Cave. Wendy and Christina are amazing hosts, they provided us with everything that we needed, and made us feel at home! They also gave us plenty of tips on places to visit. Highly recommend this amazing place, one of the best Airbnb places we stayed at!!!!!

    Elena2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This charming cottage is set in the most beautiful surroundings with outstanding views over the local countryside. The cottage itself is decorated to offer a space which is both comfortable and relaxing. I especially liked the map on the wall showing where all Wendy’s guests had travelled from. Wendy’s family gave us a lovely welcome and were brilliant at telling us about the local area.

  • Relaxing, enjoying. Lovely, unique place. Elle is so charming host. The only bad thing was that we didnt have time to stay longer.

    Virpi2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Elle is a cordial hostess and has everything in order. We felt at home there.

    Leen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If u seek sanctuary and u like a peaceful natural setting, with space and quality indoors as well, don't hesitate to book Elle's place. If you're not at all familiar with the area, be sure and communicate in advance with Elle about your needs as it is a small town rural area. I absolutely loved Elle's home and property. Get out of the car and beach walk, swim and explore Kawhia.

  • Very nice stay in a beautiful house. The host was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended this stay.

    Emilia2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Elle was an excellent host; she had coffee waiting for us upon arrival, fresh eggs for breakfast (from her backyard chickens!), a dog and cat who are kind and affectionate beyond words, and what’s more, she gave us some excellent recommendations for our upcoming trip to Auckland and tipped us onto a sulphuric hot spring at a nearby beach. 10/10 would recommend this lovely idyllic Oparau getaway.

    Choo2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Elle is a lovely and very accomodating host and her place is comfortable, relaxing and full of character. We highly recommend her place!

  • Annely’s guesthouse is great. It was a great location between the Tongariro crossing and Waitomo, which were the two activities we were doing in the area. Steve the sheep is a hoot and Annely and Damin were very kind and great hosts. It was a hot day so we had to use the supplied fan until it cooled down during the night. There was bread for toast, fruit, yogurt, coffee (French press), and cereal supplied which was great to start our day. My husband’s first comment on the spacious bathroom was “yay, a big sink”, as all of our previous stays had very tiny bathroom sinks and no space to set anything down. Little things make a difference. :) Thanks for everything!

    Laurel2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, simple & recommended! We were warmly welcomed and integrated directly by both the family and the animals.

    Liz2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • One of our best stays in nz. Annely’s family welcomed us super warmly, Steve the sheep included! The room is separated from the house, this guarantees a lot of privacy. Highly recommended!

Amazing location and pet friendly. You will not get closer to the ocean unless you are swimming ! Close to Waitomo Caves and Bridal Veil Falls. The 3 bedrooms may be small but the view is what you have come for. There is safe swimming and good harbor fishing. No free wifi until local reception improves, mobile coverage is limited but you can call/text/mobile data from the "Magic Spot" in the Bach. If you want a true Kiwi beach bach experience, you have just found a hidden gem at Aotea.
Clean and cosy cottage with your own access and off street parking. Motel quality linen is provided and there is a great little fire for those winter nights. Enclosed verandah and deck are great places for the pets and children. Enjoy balmy summer nights on the deck watching the sun go on down. Full cooking and laundry facilities along with two kayaks and two sun loungers.Great two family space with two parent bedrooms and a bunk room for 4 kids.Good range of dvd's, cd's and board games for those wet days.
Aotea has friendly locals (close to 40 !!) who wave back. Kawhia,(10 mins away), has a pub, cafe, fish and chip shop, general store and petrol station. Iconic Oparau Store is only 17km away. Area is great for the serious athlete looking for challenging roads for cyclists/runners and safe, against the tide, harbour swimming. If you want the true Kiwi Bach experience with a laid back lifestyle, you have found it.
  • Once again a wonderful stay at Debach...it is the most beautiful place and met the needs of 3 generations brilliantly....Mel and Geoff are great hosts and Debach is just fabulous ...we were very sad to leave.

    Gabrielle2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Well sometimes I stumble across a place which is so really great that I don’t want to share. Da bach is one of those gems. It has all the amenities but without being fussy. The location makes it hard to beat. The hosts do a great job! Well equipped for hanging out

    Christine2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Aotea is a peaceful little village, super dog friendly, which is a lovely plus. The bach itself has a great view with the sea set against rolling black sand dunes, and the enclosed deck is a sweet spot to eat a late dinner and watch the waves. We'd definitely recommend driving to the hot water beach in Kawhia - you don't often get to experience a beach like that so quiet.

    Jean2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home with beautiful views. Great place to unwind and relax. Freaked out a tad bit upon reading the fact that there is a compost toilet after I’d made the booking but was pleasantly surprised that it was flushable. Very comfortable home right next to the water, coming from a busy city life it was the best place to unwind, have a few beers and catch up with friends. Extra blankets and towels were extremely convenient and so many different places to have a nap haha. 10/10 would recommend and will also be returning

    Tomairangi2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a brilliant location this is. We couldn't have asked for a better setting. This is a part of NZ we'd never been to before and it is very special. Would highly recommend you spend several days here, especially if you need your batteries recharged which is really easy to do in this quiet scenic spot, many thanks Geoff and Mel for sharing your piece of paradise with us, Peter and Jenny

    Jenny2019-11-13T00:00:00Z

  • Best place for family with babies and children. I wanted to stay one more night. Staying only 2 nights is not enough. Water level is deeper than i thought. I think 4m high when its full tide.. ? Very good place for fishing. There is everything you need except microwave, rice cooker (didn't work) other than that its perfect place i will go back to this bach again.

We are very passionate about where we live - from the breath taking views of the rugged west coast, to the tranquillity of the bush and natural surroundings. Come and see for yourself and enjoy our piece of paradise

  • A very clean unit with everything you need. Henry was a lovely host, ready to help with anything. He provided a BBQ and also some wonderfully fresh snapper - yum! Aotea is an extremely quiet settlement and very peaceful. The only downsides were that the unit wasn't right on the water and the bed is against the wall. We had a lovely relaxing time in a beautiful part of our country.

The accommodation is a little out of the way but easy to find. However, supermarket and restaurants are easy to reach in the nearby town. The hosts are very helpful and open.

  • We were so glad to have the feeling of comfort and ease during our stay at Fiona and Leighton’s house. As foreigners we suspected we would have a hard time navigating the town of Otorohanga but our hosts were accommodating and helpful in guiding our group to what we needed. The rental space was plentiful and included lots of extra amenities to make the stay memorable. We loved the view from the back patio and were grateful to get to watch the sunset from the spa with our drinks in hand! Great value and perfect for relaxing.

  • Was driving in late for an early morning start at the Waitomo caves nearby and this place was absolutely perfect for my husband and I. Amazingly comfortable and thoughtful suggestions and amenities provided. Easy to find and the hosts were quick to respond and even offered us a late check out due to our long drive the previous night. Would definitely recommend staying here if planning to do any activities in the area. It’s extremely Convenient and close by.

  • Ann and her husband has a very nice farm with various animals - ostrich, emu, donkey, horses, lama, alpacas, sheep, goat, a pig, dogs and a lot of lovely kittens. We and our kids enjoyed it so much. It was easy to visit the animals. Breakfast is great. Ann is genuinely hospital and helpful with local tips. We stayed in the bungalow, which may be a bit dated, but everything works. Good ambiance. Can only recommend.

  • As others have said, this place is a must if you are an animal lover. We were in the area to visit the glow worm caves, but Ann’s place could have been the destination. We visited for our two nights with our 3 kids (ages 4, 8, and 10) and they would have moved in if they could. Ann is a superb host and makes a delicious breakfast. She also had great local recommendations. The cottage is quaint, very clean and comfortable. There is a nice porch with a grill, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook in. We definitely enjoyed this unique farm stay and highly recommend!

  • Ann's home is very welcoming and comfortable, and if I have a chance to come again, I will choose here again.

    Adam2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you enjoy animals then this is the place to stay! We were heading to the glow worm caves and needed a place nearby and Ann’s farm was a great fit for our family. The accommodations are comfortable and she had a fan to help cool the bungalow off. She gave us a farm tour so my kids got to get up close with all of the animals she has from ostriches to ponies. There were kittens and some dogs as well so my kids were very happy! Plus it is only a few minutes to the glow worm caves which was easy for us the next morning.

    Alden2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely brilliant stay with a toddler and two teenagers. Our toddler loved the animal tour, we could barely peel her away. Ann and her husband are super hosts who give a fantastic breakfast. Five minutes down the road from the caves and restaurants, Roselands BBQ was great and Ann herself owns a local cave which we didn’t have time to visit but we will if we get to come again. A super place, 100% recommended. The cats, dogs, ponies etc are super and we were sad to leave ! Perfect Accommodation with a great relaxed feel :)

    Rebecca2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is as good as it looks. The animal show is well worth it, so make sure you’re there for 5pm. Very close to the caves and great host

    Jeremy2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • There are too many cute animals on the farm, and the children are very happy.

    2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • My kids love animals so this was the perfect spot for them. They really enjoyed the brand new baby kittens. And the dogs 🐕 , bunnies 🐰 , tortoise 🐢 , sheep 🐑 , pig 🐖 , emus, ostriches , alpacas 🦙 and llama. Ann is a gracious host. She makes a killer homemade breakfast.

  • Miranda is such a great host! Thank you for this very special stay that made our trip to NZ even more adventurous and beautiful. The place is spottlessly clean and much better equipped than other accommodation that you would have to pay a lot more for. We would definitely come back any time if we could!

  • A lovely cottage on a working dairy farm, incredible starry skies, and a private space. The cottage is located a fair distance from the main house near the cow paddocks. Fully equipped kitchen, leaving nothing wanting, and full use of a washing machine, good wifi and a very welcoming host. I would recommend this B&B to friends and family travelling in the area.

Our Bristol Freighter Plane is one of the last allied planes that was flown in Vietnam. This plane is split into two motels: the cockpit and the rear tail. It is truly a one-off unique piece and there is no other such plane accommodation existing in the world.
It is for the true adventurer. One bed is located up in the cockpit and you must be fit to climb the steep ladder to access the controls and that sleeping area. As such the upstairs is more suited for fit children. Children MUST BE older than 8 years of age. This sleeping area can also be hot in the summer months. The upstairs bed is unsuitable for younger children or people with physical limitations. There is also a double bed on the lower level. There is an ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet, as well as a living/eating area with kitchenette. The kitchenette features a gas hob, microwave and refrigerator for light meals.
900m from glowwarm caves and local village
  • Staying in a cockpit of a plane what could cooler.

  • A special motel with really intersecting history. People who love the history of WW1, WW2 will deginetely find a lot of interesting assets in the check-in office and inter the motel. The host gave us great advice on the night activity and restaurant.

    Kyrene2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a special place !! Blown away by the history this space offered and given the age and condition I was equally impressed with the cleanliness. Thanks for an unforgettable stay!

    Leanne2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is s fun place to stay. It's a little inconvenient to get there by foot if you have luggage, but still worth it. The nearby Cafe at the adventure company was great, as promised by our hosts, and the people there were very helpful and nice.

    E & E2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The staff at Woodlyn Park were good communicators and gave us instructions for check-in. There was always someone to contact 24/7z It was winter but there’s an air conditioner/heater in the unit plus individual/single/twin-sized heating blankets on the bed. We thought it was one queen sized heating blanket so my mum kept complaining it was cold under the sheets and I was boiling hot! The kitchen is very functional. The bathroom had a nice hot shower. The cockpit is amazing and I’d have slept in there except I think it might be hard for me to climb down quickly and easily in times of desperation, so I stayed downstairs. Great place to stay at while exploring Waitomo!

  • Rock Retreat is perfect. We stayed here between the Waitomo Caves and heading to Hobbiton. The location was perfect - just off the beaten path but close enough for a jaunt to town for dinner. The view is stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed catching the sunrise over the hills and devouring Biddy’s homemade yogurt and apricots. 10/10 would stay again.

  • One of the nicest BnB‘s we stayed in during our 10 week journey through whole NZ. Clean, tranquil, wonderful terrace with a hammock we loved, a bath almost in the bush, best tap water we ever tasted, a sweet possum said hello at night - and soooo comfy beds we slept very well in.... highly recommend!

    Martina2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Biddy and family were amazing!!! Not a single problem... If you want peace and relaxation this is it! I cannot remember have stayed at such a place with such OUTSTANDING & truly BEAUTIFUL views; waking up each morning to a view like that was awesome!!! If you want peace and relaxation you must check out Biddys place!!!... oh btw that have the most cutest dogs, whom are super friendly; we were lucky enough to have one of their dogs visit the cottage [of which is located in a nice private part of there property] several times which was cool... 10 out 10!!!

  • Very charming farm cottage beautifully decorated in a dreamlike landscape. You feel right there right away. Biddy's welcome is very warm and she has lots of little touches in store for us. The bedding is very good. Here no wifi (we limit energy consumption) but real coffee beans!

  • My partner and I loved staying at Kahurangi Cottage. We just loved the place as it was perfectly furnished and supplied, super clean, had an excellent bed and linens, and just so cozy and adorable. Upon arrival, you’re greeted by beautiful plantings, a white picket fence and potted flowers right at your front door. Character-plus! The location, the views, the cottage itself and all the amenities were just perfect for our weekend in Kawhia. It’s lovely and quiet, overlooking a rural view on one side and most of Kawhia on the other side. One of the highlights was watching a daddy quail and one of his chicks amble across the front deck, chattering away at each other! Kit and Di are lovely and friendly, and love hearing about your visit at the end of your stay. Can’t wait to visit Kawhia again and will definitely book in at Kahurangi Cottage!!

So peaceful and loved being able to walk up the hill and feed the eels in the creek. Thanks so much for the amazing breakfast, especially the croissants!!!

    Jo2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to discover the country side of new zealand, a peacefull place where you can be surrounded by nature & animals. Thank you Rowena for this beautiful experience. Thank you for the excellent croissants. Amazing night there, too short Kids loved there

  • Of all our accommodation throughout our big family holiday road trip around the North Island, my family was most charmed and delighted with The Barn. It was such a special place to spend our last night on the road, with so many thoughtful touches. Our group included middle-agers, teenagers, and a kindergartener, and there was something magically wonderful for everyone, from the rustic candle chandelier to the giant swing chair (big enough to curl up and sleep in) to Pooh's House and feeding the eels. The quiet stillness at night and the star-filled sky were a treat. Rowena brought a gorgeous breakfast and is an excellent host. We loved The Barn!

  • Quirky barn conversion into eco accommodation- you feel right in the middle of a patch of paradise. Lovely breakfast provided too

    Cat2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is wonderful! So much space and surrounded by peaceful nature. Our family lived our time and wish we could have stayed longer. The place is very clean and had everything we needed. Rowena is a lovely host too. The breakfast went down very quickly! We hope to be back soon.

One of the last allied planes out of Vietnam, yes we are talking about the real plane.
900m away from glowwarm caves and local village
  • We had a great night on the plane. The kids loved it! Ideal for one or two nights with the family. We also recommend the Huhu café, a restaurant located 2 minutes by car and making very good dishes.

    Élodie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our unique stay in the Tail of the plane. It was very clean and the beds were very comfy. It had everything you needed and we were amazed at the fact we were in an actual plane. The host was very helpful with our late check in, and she was full of tips for us in regards to driving shortcuts and places to stop to eat. We would definitely recommend this stay to our friends as it was great value for the money we paid.

  • Spacious and clean apartment in a quiet location. High quality bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The living room is a bit rougher around the edges, but includes a pool table and has a lovely view through the glass door or from the deck outside. The owner is super friendly and we would book again if we return to the area.

  • Marks place is great! We loved the space, the view, modern updates, everything we needed in the full kitchen, comfortable large bed. It also has great sheets and towels - all those little things that can make a stay great on top of the basics!

St Marys is a quaint Church built in 1930. Newly renovated, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, along with the rural setting. A 2 minute stroll takes you into the Piopio Village, where you'll find the Award winning Fat Pigeon Cafe and The Nite Owl Bar and Eatery. Also handy are the Waitomo Caves and many other natural attractions. PLEASE note, a booking for 1 guest equates to a Queen bedroom for 2 guests, additional guests requiring an extra room incur a tarrif of $50p/p.
We are 10 minutes from Hairy Feet tours, 30 minutes from the Waitomo Caves and handy to many walks and places of natural beauty such as the Marokopa waterfalls and natural bridge. 40 minutes to the west coast beaches for surfcasting and whitebait fritters..
  • Tidy and clean. Better than I expected. Had cute little touches, that I really loved. Only booked for one night, for a wedding, but wished had booked for longer.

    Catrina2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The most amazing space, a really unique AirBnB experience! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable, well set up, welcoming spot to stay - with the coolest styling and feeling. Loved it!

    Isaac2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic place! We truly felt welcomed, and the church was so spacious and clean. Our little guy had so much room to practice his walking. What made this place more beautiful is Jo’s kindness and generosity, she brought fresh milk for our son and fresh eggs from her farm. We will definitely stay there again.

    Omars2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful space that hugs you while you stay. Beautiful features, well appointed, fabulous view. Will stay again.

    Maree2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Airbnb displays pictures of cool, one-of-a-kind spaces, and we have never been able to rent one in a destination we needed or wanted to visit. Until now. Jo's house is *an actual deconsecrated church* as advertised. It is renovated and preserved in such a way that you really do have the experience of being in a church. It was mind blowing. The altar is intact, although now it contains a large dining table with benches. There is a carpet marking where the aisle would be, and what appears to be the original wood floor where the pews would have been. The rest is still there in all its glory, including a soaring wood ceiling with exposed rafters. That's a large living area. It's the middle of summer so we were able to open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. We slept really well. Jo left phenomenal locally produced soap for us in the bathroom. The kitchen is totally functional and we were able to cook pasta, sauce and vegetables. This was a great stop over for us between Tongariro National Park and the Waitomo caves.

  • Lynda's Willow Cottage is truly amazing, exceptionally clean and with nice stylish furniture. Real flowers in vases and nice paintings and ornaments in various places. Lynda even left some nibbles for us in fridge, delicious. The cottage was very handy to the Waitomo Caves, our reason for venturing up that way, and even closer to Otorohanga. No problems at all in finding the cottage which was in a lovely rural area and very quiet with double glazed windows. Thanks Lynda for a perfect two night stay from us four travellers.
