  • The cottage is wonderful - gorgeously quaint and quirky with a beautiful and elegant mezzanine bedroom, cosy and comfy lounge area, well equipped, new kitchen and shower room. We had a delightful stay. The addition of wireless internet would make it perfect!

  • Had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage. Took the day to travel around Durham, and spent two nights at the cottage. Would definitely stay again.

  • This is the first time staying here and we couldn’t of asked for anything better. Michael was very warm welcoming and gave plenty of information on where we could go to visit. The cottage itself was sparkling clean and the log burner was a brilliant extra. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a brilliant weekend

  • A lovely hideaway in the countryside. The wood burner was fantastic after returning home from a walk in a blizzard! Very nicely furnished and a lovely cosy cottage feel about it. Top Tip: Take slippers. The floors can be cold on your feet in winter.

    Ben2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was very welcoming, he provided us with lots of recommendations regarding where to walk / eat and drink. Cannot fault the cleanliness of the cottage. Perfect location just off of the A68 with plenty to do in the surrounding area. You won't be dissapointed.

  • Just home from a two night stay with my friend. Despite the weather we’ve had a lovely couple of days in the cottage; the log burner and alpacas were a particular highlight for us! Hope to come back 😊

  • A very cosy cottage with all you need for a relaxing getaway in the countryside. A couple of maintenance issues were dealt with promptly so that our stay was not affected. Would stay again.

Alternatively, Alnwick Castle, the coastal town of Alnmouth, Derwent Water or Kielder Forest with it's spectacular dam make good days out. Hexham town itself has a beautiful Abbey, a thriving theater, a lovely old cinema and regular markets. There are a good selection of coffee shops and cafes to choose from. Great local pubs, including The Travelers Rest, The Carts Bog and the nearest, the Dipton Mill, just a couple of minutes drive away which has quality food and it's own Micro brewery. Ladycross Nature Reserve is a few minutes drive away & has 40 acres of heath, woodland, ponds and upland meadows. It can be visited by appointment and also holds a range of events to show its fascinating wildlife.
  • Perfect for our quiet getaway, near to plenty of walking, beautiful location, hosts were fantastic and answered all our questions. Beware it is small with no living/dining room but no surprise as was explained in listing. The bath is AMAZING and the place was clean, cosy and welcoming. Thank you so much for having us

    Nick2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Quarry Barn is a lovely getaway in the perfect location! Michael & June were very responsive to messages and Michael greeted us upon arrival with some great tips and dog friendly recommendations for the local area! The Derwent Manor Hotel was within walking distance (great for a few drinks) and Derwent Reservoir was just 10 mins in the car. The barn was spotlessly clean and decorated throughout to a high standard. We hope to stay again in future!

    Azrael2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic stay, wish we book for an extra night. Michael gave us loads of tips on places to visit and go for a drink, would definitely return for another visit.

  • A very well made and insulated shepherds hut with a stylish interior. Even in Storm Dennis we felt warm & cosy. A lovely little get away in the countryside and andrew made us very welcome. He even let us feed the sheep and see his workshop where he builds his Shepherd Huts.

    Clare2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, small and compact but has everything you need. Great host and even let my boy hand feed the sheep. We stayed during the last storm, was still nice and warm. Defo recommend, and we’ll more than likely re visit.

    Samantha2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Blue Hut was a fantastic get away, Andrew was brilliant left us to have our own space but was there to help when we needed it. He let us check out later on the Sunday as he had no one else arriving and there was a bad storm which was really nice of him. The Hut is really well designed myself my partner and our dog Bodhi enjoyed every minute of our stay. Definitely recommend staying here.

A luxurious 3 bed cottage in beautiful grounds handy for the village of Corbridge and 2 miles from the historic market town of Hexham. Hidden down a short track at the edge of the hamlet of Sandhoe, it is a truly tranquil spot.
Peartree Cottage lies on the south side of the Tyne Valley just above the village of Corbridge and 2 miles to the historic market town of Hexham. Hidden down a short track at the edge of the hamlet of Sandhoe, it is a truly tranquil spot. Situated in just under an acre of gardens overlooking a wild flower meadow, this three bedroomed cottage is in one of the most attractive areas of Northumberland but is also handy for some the best pubs and restaurants in the Tyne Valley. Just a couple of miles from the Roman site of Corstopitum, the cottage is in the heart of the key walking areas in the region with the Roman Wall just seven miles away. The ground floor is open plan dining, kitchen and sitting area with a wood burning stove which combined with underfloor heating makes the cottage cosy even in winter months. There is a downstairs twin bedded bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with both a shower and separate bath. Up the spiral staircase is a twin bedded room, a double bedroom and an upstairs bathroom.
It's a very quiet, idyllic spot but handy for an Award winning pub, villages and a Market Town.

    Barrie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • A well equipped and beautifully presented house, with lovely grounds. Communication was good and the hosts friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the house is in a great position for exploring Hadrian's wall, in addition to a relatively close drive to the National Parks and the coast if wanted. A great base for exploring the country, and the many walks from here.

(Dogs must be pre agreed and is an additional £20 per pet, per stay). Garden Cottage is a quaint and tranquil barn conversion, located in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland Countryside. The cottage boasts beautiful views near and far. The cottage has many windows which takes great advantage of the beautiful surroundings, looking on to the peaceful country views, court yard and paddocks. We also have an occasional barn owl.
WE ARE VERY RURAL WITH NO COVID-19 REPORTS IN THE AREA. Due to the low price I do not offer tea and coffee however, I do supply bare essentials and a few additional extras such as: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, toilet roll, washing liquid as well as towels etc. I don’t supply oil in the kitchen. Garden Cottage offers something for everyone, whether it is a romantic break, business or for walking/cycling. The living, landing area and sleeping areas are very spacious and clean as well as a large garden to relax in on those sunny days. There is a sofa bed in the bedroom upstairs, which will sleep 2 people. Note: the sofa bed is a little smaller than a double bed. A small warning: The bathroom is very small, consisting of a toilet, sink and walk in shower (wet room). There is no bath. The bathroom has a glass door, which has an opaque covering and is to the side of the kitchen. The heating is turned off in the cottage during May - October. The heating will be turned on in circumstances where it is unusually cold. It's important that guests are comfortable at all times. The garden is shared. With the garden to the left belonging to the cottage and the garden on the right (containing the summer house) belonging to the farm house. As a rule and for optimum privacy, it is rare that we use the garden when we have guests, but we may use the double gates to the side of the farm house, from time to time. Whilst I allow children and infants, I don’t have any specific supplies for children and infants. For example; baby gate, changing area, cot, high chair etc
Garden Cottage is situated in the middle of country side, but within easy reach of the A68 for anyone wanting to go on any expeditions by car! There are many public footpaths to take advantage of, as well as the beautiful garden and stunning views at the Cottage itself. There are many places to visit in the surrounding areas so it is advised that guests wanting to explore should spend more than one night at our cottage. Discovering the historical landmarks at Beamish Hexham Hadrians Wall Northumberlandia Derwent walk Derwent reservoir Slaley forest Blanchland medieval village Corbridge A secure store can be provided for anyone who would like to bring a bike however, guests use our storage facilities at their own risk. The owners of Garden Cottage take no responsibility for any losses or damage whilst using our storage facilities. There are also some lovely local pubs, including the Manor House Inn, which is only 2 miles from the Cottage. This can also be accessed on foot. Travelling further afield, the Anchor Inn is also a good quality, local pub. The Manor House Inn is popular so be sure to book in advance if you’re planning to eat at the Manor House Inn. Visiting Wheelbirks ice cream parlour is also a must for some traditional pub grub as well as freshly made, decadent ice cream! The farm is approximately 15 minutes away from Garden Cottage. If you are wanting a spa day to fully relax, you can visit Slaley hall where you can book yourself In to a spa day! They also have golf!
  • Beautiful, peaceful location and a lot of care has been given to the cottage space. Snug but spacious, we loved our short break here.

  • Rachael's place is a great way to explore the surrounding area! It's warm and cosy, there's plenty of room, and the little kitchen was well-stocked with pans and utensils, which we found really useful. The surroundings are beautiful, and there's a great local pub within easy walking distance. Communication was super-swift and friendly. Thanks for a great stay!

    Vicky2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend enough and will certainly return! Rachael was super helpful from the moment we booked, giving us lots of great recommendations of things to do and welcoming us on arrival. The cottage itself is sparkling clean with plenty of space, cosy and in a lovely location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, particularly relaxing and watching the horses from the window in the evenings - we couldn't have asked for a better trip! Thank you again!

    Emily2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great host, beautiful place close enough to amenities but far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. Quirky spacious cottage with everything you need. Comfy sofas and bed. A gorgeous spot to watch the sun rise too - the perks of traveling with a toddler! We'll definitely be back and hopefully get to see the horses next time! Xxx

We are 3 miles from the historic village of Corbridge with its great shops, pubs and restaurants, one and a half miles from Hadrian's Wall, 20 minutes from airport and 25 minutes from Newcastle. This is a newly refurbished old stable which is a cosy hideaway in the Tyne Valley. Extensive walks are available on this working farm. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and dogs (sorry, no cats). Sadly owing to recent experiences we now need to charge £5 per dog per night.
  • What a wonderful stay! We loved how close it was to everything, but just far enough off the main road to feel separated from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The dogs were quick to settle in and cozy up to the fire, with plenty of wood to keep the log burner going all night . The wifi is exceptionally fast. The cottage is so spacious and nicely decorated, it is easy to instantly feel at home. There are a pair of hot water bottles to warm up the bed, and fluffy bath sheets to hang on the bathroom warmer. Because it's a working farm, we were able to enjoy looking at the wide vistas, new lambs, and horses. It was especially convenient to have access to a field to play ball with the dogs. Thanks, Ailsa! Hope we can get back soon! Kim

  • A lovely, characterful cottage on a farm in a beautiful area of the country. We wouldn’t have changed anything.

  • Amazing apartment, really spacious and cosy. Beautiful location as well!

    Eleanor2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ailsa's Cottage is a delight and exactly as it is described, a warm, cosy and very welcoming cottage. It has everything you may need plus being perfecty situated to enjoy the stunning Northumbrian countryside and local attractions. My partner, dog and I spent a wonderful couple of nights there, it was not nearly long enough! It is Ailsa's little attentions to detail that set this cottage apart from many, I cannot rate it highly enough.

    Holly2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • I really don't have the words to say how beautiful this little cottage is and how much we enjoyed our stay. We spent most of our time walking and exploring around the beautiful areas or sat in front of the fire in the cottage relaxing. Lovely little touches, beautiful views, super clean and cosy and just what we needed for a break away from normal life 😁 We can't wait to come back! Thank you so much for having us and making sure we had everything we needed. Would 100 percent recommend anyone to stay here xx

    Katie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent spacious, warm and cosy accommodation. Easy to get to in a stunning area of the UK. Ailsa a great host. Corbridge is delightful and Roman Museum worth visit, exceptionally well done if you are interested in the history of the region. As is Hadrians wall. If you are National Trust Members go to Housestead to walk the Wall as you can use your Card there.

Riding Hills Farm is a cosy, attractive and well equipped one bedroomed cottage situated in one of the prettiest and most interesting parts of Northumberland. Within two miles of the historic town of Corbridge, this comfortable cottage is tucked away in a rural location with stunning views over the Tyne Valley. Despite its rural setting it is close to some excellent pubs and restaurants, and the market town of Hexham.
The cottage is attached to our farmhouse with a private entrance and enclosed garden, and is situated in just under an acre of grounds with many excellent walks and places to visit nearby. We are close to several key Roman sites in the area including Corstopitum and Hadrian’s Wall. Newcastle is 18 miles away and the stunning Northumberland coastline is only a little further.
Our cottage is situated above the beautiful Tyne Valley, and from your garden there are stunning views to enjoy over an alfresco lunch or evening drink. The enclosed garden is exclusively for the use of our guests and you are free to help yourselves to any garden produce in season including raspberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb. Our nearest village, Corbridge, has a multitude of lovely cafes and interesting shops to explore, not to mention several very good pubs and restaurants, all of which are listed in our cottage guide along with much other useful information.
  • A lovely and cosy cottage with homely finishing touches, including eggs from Debbie and Duncan's chickens and some damson jam on arrival! We were made to feel really welcome and had everything we needed in the house - the bath and shower were amazing! The cottage was also very clean and the location was great. Lots to see and do in the area.

  • Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Close to lots of brilliant walks and days out, as well as amenities in nearby Corbridge/Hexham. Very peaceful with great views from the garden. The cottage is clean and clomfortable with lots of individual touches. Debbie and Duncan were great hosts, left a lovely welcome package and were very helpful. Will be back again.

  • Beautiful location with stunning scenery and plenty of walks nearby. The cottage is perfect for relaxing and Debbie is an excellent host, could not recommend this place enough!

    Maryam2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious cottage with great views. Although you can walk into Corbridge, it takes about 30 minutes and there are lengths of the main road that have no pavements, so you need to be wary of traffic. There is a reliable half-hourly bus service into Corbridge and Hexham going west, and into Newcastle going east. Both bus stops are a 5-minute walk from the cottage, on the main road.

    Mac2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truely magical, the bathroom was incredible both the bath and the shower were special features, the kitchen is a very decent size, everything about this place exceeds expectation, both Debbie and Duncan will go above and beyond to offer any help you need. The scenic beauty and the silence and peace is emotionally transforming. I was truely sad to leave and will definatley be back. Thank you Both Debbie and Duncan for being such outstanding hosts. Xxx I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

  • We had a great weekend at Kim's place. The space looks exactly like it is in pictures, and is perfect for two people. Kim was a great host and sent us a guide to the property before arrival - which got me very excited for the trip! We recommend putting the fire on if you are visiting in the colder months, although the property has underfloor heating which is great. The picturesque village of Blanchland is nearby and well worth a visit.

  • What a beautiful location. Very peaceful. Within easy reach of all the major attractions the area has to offer. The space was sparkling clean. Our host Kim was extremely helpful. Could not have asked for a better experience. Would recommend to all.

Pry is a cosy 18th-century, cottage farmhouse within five acres of wild flowers, a verdant copse and running burn. Near Hadrian’s Wall and medieval Blanchland, Pry lies just south of Hexham and Corbridge, making it the perfect base for exploring Northumberland and beyond. Help is on hand with Steve and Cocker Spaniel Kes. There’s homemade organic breads, rare-breed (even Roman!) eggs and advice on walking, cycling, or casting a fly for salmon and wild trout.
Pry offers two very comfortable double bedrooms and access to the Book Room to chill out and relax. The bedroom facing Slaley has a king-size bed with views and a glow of natural sunlight particularly in the late afternoon, early evening. The adjoining bathroom has a walk-in Eco-smart shower with a large raindrop head and heated towel rail. The other bedroom captures the early light and provides a double bed with a wonderful view of the garden. This bedroom is only available if you are one party. Pry provides locally sourced breakfast from the village and surrounding area and is committed to providing Fairtrade products like tea and coffee. The menu varies daily according to availability and preference. A picnic can be made up for £10 a person.
At Pry you can simply pop out the gate and walk or cycle through dappled woods and alongside rivers and burns. One of our family’s favourite walks is through Slaley Forest across the grouse moors to the medieval village of Blanchland. Here the Lord Crewe Arms serves local ales and has an excellent restaurant for that special night out. If it is a spa you are after and a massage, or a more energetic game of golf, then it is less than a mile to Slaley Hall, a popular hotel and health resort. Also within distance are the milecastles, forts and museums that dot Hadrian’s Wall, a world heritage site. Nearby Corbridge is a useful starting point. Hexham boasts a wonderful abbey, while Durham City with its renowned castle and cathedral are a short drive away. So too is the Northumberland National Park and Kielder Forest for outdoor pursuits like sailing. Cycling is a family favourite and routes abound. And there is always the River Tyne – a paradise for those casting a salmon fly. After an unforgettable day, you can relax at Pry. There is community run pub and restaurant a field away, or if you want to slump in the comfort of the Book Room, why not order 'Abend brot' of soup, homemade bread and cheese. The wood burner takes any chill away.
  • Steve, Harriet, and Kes the dog ate wonderful hosts. Breakfast was a real highlight with homemade bread, and the log burner in the living room. They made us so welcome, and theirs local knowledge was invaluable. The peace and quiet of the surroundings were perfect. We will definitely return to this beautiful place.

    Katy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Steve's cottage is a charming property, very well managed and looked after. On arrival, my friend and I were greeted with the most enthusiastic welcome we've ever received at any b&b as Steve's dog Kes could not have been happier to make two new acquaintances. The rooms were full of light, had exquisite views of the countryside and were warm despite the not-so-hot weather. The bathroom had recently been renovated and was looking very nice, too bad for a little problem with the shower due to which we had to use another bathroom, one with extremely hot water coming out of it, to shower. This problem, however, should be fixed by the time anyone else visits. As for the breakfast, we were offered many different options to choose from and everything we ended up having was truly delicious. All in all, I would recommend staying at Pry to anyone seeking an authentic countryside cottage experience.

    Elena2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Steve’s house is very easy to find and very close to Slaley Hall and Healey Barn. We had a wedding at Healey barn and had to be in and out of the house and back and forth to Slaley and Healey Barn. Steve was very flexible with allowing us to come and go as we pleased. The amenities are very comfortable and he makes a great coffee. We would definitely recommend. Keith

Hello! I am renting out one or two bedrooms, with your own modern private bathroom and also private living/dining room. My home is on a quiet street, with plenty of parking and only a 5/10min walk into the centre of town through the local park. I've lived in the area all my life and so can offer great advice on places to eat, pubs, picturesque walks and places worth a visit. If the guests wish I will also offer a well equipped continental breakfast with teas and filter coffee.
The main bedroom is a queen size bed with desk, draws, wardrobe, kettle with fair trade teas, coffee and cookies. There is also a TV screen with a HDMI cable so guests can watch films and TV programs from their laptop. The second room is a new large single bed which also has a wardrobe, draws and a new bedside table. The living room has a comfy sofa to relax on next to a log burning stove. It also has a dinning room table where your breakfast will be laid out for you in the morning. Or a place for you to eat a take away/dinner if you wish to stay in on the evenings. It also has a piano if you wish to play some music. The bathroom has a powerful shower with bath tub, sink, toilet and a cupboard filled with toiletries. There is also a garage to the back of the house where guests can store bikes or any other equipment if they wish. I should also mention that we have a very lovely greyhound who will be in the house, she wont pester you on your stay but if you enjoy playing with dogs she is very friendly and will love your attention.
We are located on a quite road with plenty of parking spaces. We're walking distance of everything needed and roughly 5-10 minutes to the centre of town and a one minute walk from the main park, the Sele park, and also from a nice pub called the Fox with local ales and a pool table.
  • Rosie's place is wonderful! The facilities are just right and she has thought of everything. Communication was quick and efficient and all instructions easy to follow. The house is located in a quiet street and it is an easy walk to the centre of Hexham. Liz (Rosie's Mum) looked after us during our recent visit and was kind and helpful and very friendly. Last but not least - this has to be the best value accommodation in the town!

    David2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

    HELEN2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the spacious Boathouse. We were kept entertained by the many things to do in the area, but all looked forward to returning to the Boathouse each afternoon to relax. The beds were so comfortable that our children slept past 7am each day, which is unheard of! Our five-year-old said he wanted to stay 'forever' which is endorsement indeed! We particularly enjoyed watching the birds in the garden and listening to the babbling stream, and the children loved playing with the outdoor games equipment. A tranquil, restorative place.

Rustic cabin on our 4 acre small holding. Stargazers Rest directly faces the wonderful far reaching views in the photos. Comfortable lounge, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, heating, pellet stove, TV. Goats graze the paddock to one side, Shetland ponies the other, it's quite special to see these animals at such close quarters. Sheep & cattle often graze the fields to the front. In all seasons the view is a real delight & cloud cover permitting the stars provide a spectacular canopy at night.
Stargazers cabin is a purpose built unique building situated to overlook and enjoy the amazing view we are blessed with. Fully plumbed and wired for all services it's a great spot to relax regardless of the season. Each room is heated, in the lounge is an amazing state of the art bio mass pellet stove, so in the winter you can cozy up with a hot chocolate and watch the beautiful view and the light change over the valley. In the summer you can sit outside, in your own private space to the front of the cabin, sipping the drink of your choice and soak in the peace and scenery. So whether your considering a romantic retreat for two, or thinking of bringing the kids to enjoy the animals, either way it makes a great base to explore Northumberland and all this wonderful county has to offer. We love to meet guests from both home and abroad and a warm welcome awaits. See our other listing also: Stable Cottage rural annex.
Although situated in beautiful countryside we are located only 6 minutes drive from Hexham town centre with all it has to offer....so it's the best of both worlds really. In town there is much to see including The Abbey, a thriving arts centre and theatre, cinema, sports facilities and the usual array of artisan shops, resturants and coffee houses and of course supermarkets. Well known Corbridge is only a 10/15 minute drive away and Hadrian's wall is easily acessed from several points and there are walking and cycling routes all around.
  • We only met Jim,and he was very informative about the property, it was a lovely place to stay, in a private setting with fantastic views, and I would certainly recommend to others, and return again myself.

  • Thank you so much Robyn & Jim for being fantastic hosts. We really enjoyed our stay at the stargazing cabin and were extremely lucky with the weather and clear nights. What a wonderful spot you have and the Cabin was beautiful with everything we needed.

  • Lovely cabin. Jim was ready and waiting for our arrival with a torch which was great as it was pitch black when we arrived! He showed us the cabin and gave instructions on how to use the pellet burner. The beds were comfy and there were loads of nice little touches like tea, coffee, milk , sugar and even biscuits, lots of snuggly throws to cosy up with and hot water bottles for everyone. All very clean, would thoroughly recommend this place to others.

  • The photos of this listing don’t do it justice. It’s a really well put together cabin, warm and cosy and well kitted out to a high standard throughout. I was there for a solo retreat - I’m not sure how I would have found it with the full 5-person capacity (!) - but for me it was a perfect, peaceful and comfy place to unwind. Jim and Robyn were warm and friendly and there as I needed them, but left me to myself the rest of the time. I’d definitely recommend and intend to go back for more time out myself. 😊

    Kiz2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for a lovely break. Robyn and Jim were fantastic hosts. The cabin is absolutely delightful, we thought it was ideal for our romantic getaway. We went to the local pub, which was cute and had a real family feel about it. Had dinner one night at a Greek in Hexham town, there was a card on the wall in the cabin and it was fantastic would highly recommend. Went to hadrians homesteads which was a beautiful day out. Overall I loved our stay. The cabin was so warm and cozy, that heater blows out alot of heat!! So don't be put off going in colder weather!! Comfy bed, amazing pressure on the shower, tea, coffee and milk all provided which were lovely touches. The views are breathtaking, no words could describe how truly beautiful the landscape is. Thank you again, we look forward to coming back one day.

  • We would highly recommend Wendy as a host and her home is very homely and welcoming. Very clean and lovely touches with fluffy soft towels and tea facilities in the rooms. All the ingredients for a spot on breakfast. Beds were very comfortable. House had all the facilities required including a hot tub which unfortunately we didn't have time to use, but was all set at 38 degrees ready to use. Very good value for money and would definately go back if we were visiting the area again.

Situated in a secluded location, within easy level walking distance of Hexham market town centre, School Cottage is a unique building; a great base from which to explore all that Northumberland has to offer. The cottage has two ensuite bedrooms and sleeps 4 people. It has a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. The lounge has an electric wood burning effect stove with satellite TV. Off street parking for two cars is included along with a private south facing courtyard.
The owners recently acquired Orchard Gap and have spent five years restoring both the main school house and the out buildings, one of which is School Cottage. Refurbishment was completed in February 2020. The detached stone & brick cottage was originally built as stables around 1853 and used as school rooms during WWII. With original period features, this recently modernised property has WI-FI, two ensuite bedrooms and beamed ceilings upstairs which adds to the character of the cottage. There is a handrail to help with steps at the main door. The kitchen has an electric fan oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine (with access to a dryer) with ample crockery, glasses and cutlery. The through lounge contains a sofa and two armchairs and a dining table which sits up to 6 people. There is an original fireplace with electric log burner effect fire. A bookshelf contains a variety of books and games and a collection of DVDs and information on attractions in the area. Bedroom 1 has a pleasant view over gardens and has twin beds that can also be converted to a Super king size when required. Bedroom 2 has a King size bed and overlooks the garden of Orchard Gap, including the original Victorian greenhouse complete with vine. Both have ensuite bathroom with walk in shower, heated towel rail, hand basin and toilet. We can provide a cot. Please contact us for further details.
Hexham is famous for its market, wide range of pubs and restaurants (including the well-known Bouchon French restaurant). Nearby are Wallington Hall (National Trust), Belsay Hall (English Heritage), the beautiful village of Corbridge which also has a Roman Camp visitors centre, the Roman Wall (House steads, Chester’s and Vindolanda) and the recently opened visitors centre at The Sill; during summer months a bus service to sites along the Roman wall operates from the railway station in Hexham. Also nearby is the wonderful Northumberland Coast, the Lake District and the vibrant city of Newcastle (30 – 40 mins by train). Many cyclists base themselves in Hexham along with people walking the Roman wall.

WELCOME TO ROCK COTTAGE Charming old stone cottage in Hexham, Northumberland. 1 double bedroom, 1 twin/double mezzanine sleeping area, living room, kitchen, bathroom with corner bath. Rock garden with stunning views over the Tyne Valley and beyond. Nearby attractions include Hexham Abbey, Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland National Park, the North Pennines AONB and the city of Newcastle. Rock Cottage is the ideal base for walkers, cyclists or people just wanting a weekend getaway.
    - Living room - Equipped kitchen - Double bedroom - Twin/double mezzanine - Bathroom with corner bath - Side yard
Rock Cottage is on Fellside, just half a mile from the centre of Hexham. As the name suggests, there is a fell in front of the house, currently inhabited by a flock of Herdwick sheep and some chickens. There are extensive woods at the back of the cottage and further down the street, providing limitless opportunities for relaxing walks. The street itself is extremely quiet and the house is detached so the only noise you're likely to hear is the baaing of sheep and the odd car passing down the hill.

Ensuite bedroom plus private, unique living room space overlooking garden and woodland. Less than 5 minute walk from Stocksfield train station and bus routes between Newcastle and Hexham and around a mile from National Cycle Route 72, Hadrian's Cycleway. Handy base for exploring Roman sites of Corbridge and further west along Hadrian's Wall. Off road parking and secure bike storage available. Guests have their own side door. Access to the Rowan Suite via staircase to the first floor.
The price includes a continental breakfast hamper with granola, croissants, fruit and yogurts. And please note, I don't add on a cleaning charge, so the final price is my nightly price plus the AirBnb Service charge only. The Rowan Suite is the upstairs of a recent extension. It is reached by a separate staircase from that in the main house, so there is an instant feeling of privacy. The staircase opens into a lovely lounge, full of light and with a cosy woodburner for cooler days. The bedroom, with its ensuite shower room, is through a door from the living room. The view, which many guests comment on, is over woodland and gardens, and is very tranquil and green. It gives a timeless sense of being right in the countryside, yet you are only a 5 minute walk from Stocksfield railway station. The living room for guests has a bi-fold door and Juliette balcony , and when fully open the whole room becomes almost an outdoor space. Lovely for lazing in the sun or watching the night sky! The house is also home to a dog and 2 cats. There is a small sofa bed in the living room area which could be used for an additional guests - by prior arrangement only. It functions as a low single bed - or it can be split to create a double floor mattress or 2 single ones. It is in the living room area which does not have curtains so will get light as the day dawns. It is visible in the photos of the room. You must contact me in advance to discuss details if you would like to include additional people and there is an additional charge of £10 per person.
My house is on a very ordinary street - but the interior space is very special. The back overlooks woodland which is tranquil and accessible - and there are local walks through more woods and along a local burn. One of my guests recently uploaded a video of the view from the lounge's Juliette balcony - it's on You Tube as 'Rowan Suite New Ridley'. Nearby, Prudhoe (c 3 miles) has several restaurants and take-aways - Indian, Italian, Chinese and fish and chip and the Wellington pub in Riding Mill (2 miles and accessible by train and bus) serves food. Excitingly, The Blue Bell Inn, Mickley just outside Stocksfield has just re-opened (August 2019) and should be serving food - check facebook for details. Also nearby is the acclaimed Feathers Inn at Hedley on the Hill which has an award-winning menu. Pre-booking is essential there. Local market towns of Corbridge and Hexham both have an excellent selection of pubs, coffee houses and restaurants and plenty of independent shops. Stocksfield makes a good base for days out to explore sections of Hadrian's Wall, The Sill Landscape Centre, Beamish Museum, English Heritage or National Trust properties such as Belsay Hall, Wallington Hall and Gibside - as well as heading into Newcastle. There are a number of local artists and crafts people offering workshops and courses in the area - The Rowan Suite is perfect accommodation while you learn a new skill. The Suite is also ideal if you're attending a wedding or other event in the area. With it's separate staircase, once you have checked in, it doesn't matter how late you arrive back again, you won't need to worry too much about disturbing the household. It's only 4 .5 miles to Healey Barn and 8.5 miles to Vallum Farm - both award winning local wedding venues, so you can always get a taxi and leave your car. I'm happy to consider early check-ins for you to change/leave luggage, car etc if you're attending an afternoon ceremony. Just ask! (And don't overlook proximity to train and bus routes- you don't even need a car to get here)
  • What a gem of a place! A lovely space with a gorgeous view from the living room and a warm cosy fire. Lots of lovely touches - blankets to snuggle up with, suggestions of places to visit, a tea tray of dreams with fresh coffee, huge selection of tea and an actual teapot! Lovely hot powerful shower. Huge comfy bed. We were at a wedding in the afternoon/evening so only really got a few hours there as we were mostly sleeping. But sitting by the fire with that view and a cup of coffee in the morning was just fab. So peaceful. The breakfast hamper was superb - fresh fruit, yoghurts, granola, warm croissants, butter and jam. And fresh orange juice. Delicious and so welcome after a long day and late night! Chris (and Boo) were fab hosts. She even sorted the fire for us in the morning when she brought the hamper in. Thank you so much for having us. We'll be back!

West Fell Cottage combines the benefits of rural tranquility and beautiful views across the Tyne Valley with its proximity to the picturesque village of Corbridge situated only 1 mile away. It is also within easy reach of Corbridge Railway Station, Hexham, Hadrians Wall and Newcastle Airport. This recently renovate cottage has a wood burning stove and spa bath and benefits from a spacious garden with patio and BBQ.
Our timber frame cottage was originally built in the 1880s as a farmhouse and retains many of its original features. A recent renovation has transformed the cottage into a modern, light, airy space with large open plan living area. The addition of insulation, central heating and a wood burning stove also ensures a cosy retreat. The private south facing garden looks out onto sheep pastures containing the site of a possible roman fortlet. To the north there are expansive views of the Tyne Valley. We have a number of old farm buildings adjacent to the cottage but these house only a few chickens and our logs, it is not a working farm. You can keep bikes safely in one of our locked sheds. At the bottom of our garden there is a bridleway with easy access to some lovely circular walks, runs and traffic light cycle rides to the likes of Blanchland and Allendale.
Corbridge contains many independent shops, character pubs, restaurants and tearooms. Hexham only 4 miles away hosts a 12th Century Abbey, independent traders and three supermarkets. Tynedale Rugby club is only a short walk away and hosts events such as the annual beer and music festivals. We are well located for Hadrian's wall, Allendale Banks, Keilder Water and many National Trust and English Heritage sites.

  • A spacious secluded quiet getaway with a generous and vivacious host. A perfect base for walks or cycling on the moors or surrounding countryside. Julie was a great host anticipating our needs - whether it was wood for the fire or emergency lanterns when the electricity briefly failed during a storm! The cottage is much larger than the typical one bedroom cottage with fast Wifi (for a rural location), a well equipped kitchen and welcome treats of fresh homemade bread, brownies, eggs and milk for our stay.

  • Beautiful space, with stunning views and great walks. Julie the host made us feel really welcome (including our dog). The thing I would note is, the location is quite remote- but perfect if you want to be away from everything.

  • A lovely place with a brilliant hostess!

    Christina2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Julie was a fantastic host with super quick responses! She went the extra mile leaving fresh farm eggs, home baked bread and brownies for our arrival. This place is a perfect get-away, we spent 2 nights with very little reason to leave the stunning fireside and cozy living room! The quality of the whole stay was superb! Only a 15 min drive to Hexham or Corbridge for authentic farmers markets and any essentials you may need. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to decompress or unwind!

  • Julie is just the perfect host ever. She went beyond the higher expectations of an airbnb host, with the cooking she did for us, it was like a dream! Thank you again! I, of course, recommend this airbnb 200%!

  • A terrific place to stay! My wife and I arrived in the dark and pouring rain one Friday night. Julie came out to meet us and show us around the stylish apartment. Julie had lit the log fire stove, made us fresh brownies and brought us a freshly-baked loaf of bread shortly after we'd settled in. Marvellous hosting. The place itself is very well appointed and was sparkle-clean. We only stayed the one night as a stopover and arrived and departed in the dark and rain - so we can't comment on what are probably tremendous rural views from Julie's place. All in all, we were very happy with our stay and would readily highly recommend Julie's place.

  • We absolutely loved our stay here, exactly as described - a beautiful, quiet cottage with everything you need for a little escape in the countryside! Being able to bring our dog was perfect for us as well. It's pretty remote so you'll need a car but the directions we received were perfect and we had no issues finding it. Julie was prompt and really helpful with communication without, we also met her a couple of times, she is lovely and her hospitality is second to none!

    Alicia2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • We were very impressed by Julie's hospitality, and the standard of her accommodation. If you like to stay off the beaten track, in a private upland area of outstanding natural beauty, you will not be disappointed. The kitchen was spacious, modern and fitted to a very high standard offering lots of counter space to prepare food. We especially liked the bathroom, which featured a large Jacuzzi bath/shower unit - plenty of room for two! The living room featured a large corner unit which converted into a comfortable double bed. There is also a wood burner, which we greatly appreciated (the accommodation is also centrally heated throughout). The main bedroom was fitted with modern light oak furniture, the bed being comfortable and solid, fitted with high quality pillows, sheets and duvet. We especially liked the soft, deep pile carpet. Well done, Julie!

We live in a small village in Northumberland, within easy distance of Hadrian’s spectacular wall, picturesque villages and castles galore. Our comfortable, self catering accommodation will provide all you need for a peaceful break within minutes of bus and rail links to Newcastle, Durham and the coast, and with beautiful country walks on our doorstep. Your suite of private rooms on either side of the shared hall include a sitting room, double bedroom, well equipped kitchen/diner and shower room.
Our home is at the top of a quiet cul-de-sac and built on a low hill. The house is on two levels. We live upstairs and, years ago, adapted the downstairs as a "granny flat" for my father. All the guest rooms are on either side of the shared hall on the ground floor and are completely private.
Our village is a quiet, friendly community with a gastro pub 5 minutes walk from our house. There are many lovely walks in the surrounding countryside and along the River Tyne, all accessible from our house. I've produced a map which makes it much easier to find your way out of the village to these walks - always the most difficult part of navigating. There are also Ordinance Survey maps which guests are welcome to borrow.
  • Jono & Eileen are truly super hosts. We enjoyed talking to them and felt very much at home straightaway. There were very useful leaflets, maps, booklets etc on what to do in Northumberland which we used to plan our trips to the surrounding countryside, villages / towns... The village itself is beautiful. The place was absolutely lovely with thoughtful touches to it, which meant we had all we needed plus extras. We’d highly recommend Jono & Eileen’s place and we’d definitely love to come back in the future.

  • Excellent

  • We were attending a wedding at Healy Barn, only 10 minute drive from the Air BnB. Jono was a great host and answered all of my questions regarding travel to/from the wedding. We had the whole bottom floor to ourselves which included a kitchen, shower room, living room and bedroom. Our only regret is that we didn’t have more time to do some of the walking routes which Jono recommended. Hopefully we’ll be back again soon to explore them! Thanks again!

  • A great place to stay in the heart of Northumberland with excellent facilities and at great value hosted by a caring couple.

    Tony2019-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts Quick to be in touch and make you feel very welcome spacious accommodation and well situated

    Sue2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Jono’s place in Riding Mill is a real gem. Not only are Jono and Eileen superb hosts giving a really warm welcome, but they are genuinely nice people. The extra touches in the kitchen with butter, milk ,bread, tea fresh ground coffee ( and ground de-caffe) are really appreciated. All the dishes and utensils in the kitchen were spotless, as was the whole flat. Thinking about the whole experience, the name “Your Own Cosy Rooms” says it all. This was our second stay here and it will not be our last.

    Peter2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts communication was excellent and we were met on arrival with offers of as much or as little advice on local places of interest as we wanted. The flat was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was very well equipped with everything we wanted. It’s set in a very pretty quiet cul de sac, in walking distance of a nice pub. We really felt at home and would recommend Juno’s place to others.

Following the success of our shepherd's hut on Airbnb, we have decided to list our holiday cottages as well. The Forge cottage is set on our working sheep farm, on the Durham Northumberland border. Ideal for couples, or people traveling on their own, the cottage is a great location for local attractions such as Beamish Museum, Durham, Newcastle, Kilhope lead mining museum etc., but it's also great for those looking for peace and quiet and country walks !!
Things to do. Using Derwent Grange as a base, there are a large number of attractions and places of interest to explore in the North East of England. These would include: •Beamish Museum (12 miles; a must see!!) •The Roman (Hadrian's) Wall (There are a lot of different sites; around 20 miles) •Durham City (17 miles) •Hexham (18 miles) •Newcastle (18 miles) •Kilhope Lead mining Museum (22 miles) •The Metro Centre (15 miles, shop 'til you drop) •Derwent Reservoir (5 miles) •Bowes Museum (28 miles) •Raby Castle (22 miles) •Cragside Hall (45 miles)
  • We have stayed several times before as it is near family, very clean, comfortable and Andrew is a GREAT host. We don’t look for anywhere else now. We’ll be back soon!

  • Second trip to this wonderful Airbnb. Very quiet, rural location. Old stone cottage kept warm with unlimited fire wood for stove. On a farm so expect mud!

  • I am really happy I was able to find this place. It is definitely pet friendly - exactly what I needed. It was the perfect stay in Consett. Absolutely recommendable. Nice country side, seems like in the middle of nowhere, but its very well connected to Consett and the area. Easy accessible. Very good heating in case it is cold. Absolutely comfortable and practical.

    Laura2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cottage, in a tranquil valley. Very cosy and clean, with a small outdoor space, and good amenities inside. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

The Bothy is in a small hamlet, surrounded by open fields, about 5 miles south of Hexham. There are many stunning walks straight from the door and we are about 20 mins drive from Hadrian's Wall. The picturesque village of Corbridge and the market town of Hexham are both about 15 mins drive away, offering a range of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and historic buildings (including Hexham Abbey and old Gaol) to explore. The nearest local pub is about a 25 min walk along country lanes. Slaley golf spa is about 10 mins drive away.
  • Me and my husband booked up here for the weekend to get away from the city - it’s perfect! Only 40 mins away from Newcastle and you feel truly away from it all! Ross is an excellent host, and even ensured we had vegan breakfast ingredients (and chocolate!) at hand. The space is perfectly proportioned, powerful shower, and the bed was SUPER comfy. Full signal and wifi too. It was just a shame we couldn’t use the log burner because of the crazy storm Denis! There is a lovely pub 25 mins walk away that we braved in the weather, we found it in a little book he left us with things to do and places to see. Highly recommend :) thanks Ross!

  • Staying at Birch Bothy you will experience warm, friendly hosts. It is so cosy and clean with sweet extra little touches which add to the whole experience. I would highly recommend staying at birch bothy and we cannot wait to stay again

    Jodi2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ross was extremely welcoming and the bothy was fantastic, in a perfect location. Lovely personal touches made it even better. Highly recommended

    Jonny2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful place to stay and highly recommended. It was easy to find despite being remote. It was full of wonderful touches that made us feel extremely welcomed. The views and the garden from the bothy were delightful and the bothy itself was perfectly provisioned and comfortable. Ross was very responsive and welcoming. Thank for making it a memorable weekend. We will be back.

    Rebecca2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderfully snug little place. It is compact, but somehow still felt like we had plenty of room. It's an ideal base and a glorious oasis of peace and calm to come back to after a hard day's exploring. It has everything you might need and then a little more! Lots of wonderful little touches to make the stay special! Would not hesitate to stay again (and again etc).

    Gemma-Simon2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed a long weekend at Ross’s place. Such a nice garden and great views over to the forest and moors. Overall, a thoroughly relaxing place to say and a great base for visiting attractions and doing local walks. Highly recommended.
