Places to stay in Santa Cruz

Places to stay in Santa Cruz
March 15, 29 - April 1st now open. There has been a lot of concern about the Covid-19 virus. We are now sterilizing the hard surfaces in our listings. We are quite isolated here so your exposure risks are much lower than in a city. If you have been exposed to it, please don't make a reservation. We have been listing the Mushroom Dome Cabin with airbnb since July '09 and have had the most reservations of any of their listings - in the world. We have had over 5,000 guests from over 50 countries.
As we are no longer allowed by Santa Cruz county to rent the Mushroom Dome Cabin, we are now listing the LAND of Paradise Suite, a room in our unique home. (LAND: Love And Nature Divine) Make a reservation for the Suite, you will also have unlimited access to the Mushroom Dome.We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds on our deck, pet the goats, go to the beach or gaze at the stars - as long as the moon isn't full. ; - ) During the summer, if there isn't any nightly fog, we can see the Milky Way here. To check our availability, click on the "Request to Book" link. And yes, if it isn't available, it is already booked! If you want to stay here on a weekend, you will usually need to make your reservation request about 6-11 months in advance. We have another listing: the Hummingbird Haven. It usually has more availability. You can find it here: airbnb.com/rooms/6562632 (Please read all of this description before making a reservation request.) The cozy and clean semi-rustic retreat space has a loft under a geodesic dome (the "mushroom cap"). In the loft is a Queen-sized super popular Casper Mattress which allows for very comfortable meditation and/or sleeping and just hanging out. We provide clean sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of blankets are also provided. In the LAND of Paradise Suite, is a double bed as well as a fold out bed, a small fridge, an electric tea kettle, teas, and coffee. Let me know if you want to cook meals here and I'll tell you how. The other "bed" is a couch that we can make up into a bed. If there are going to be 2 of you, but you want separate beds, please make the reservation for 3 or let me know ahead of time - there is a $10. charge for using it as a bed. On the main floor of the Meditation Mushroom retreat (a Pentagon) is the couch a pull-out table and 2 chairs. We provide a small refrigerator, a Hot Air Popcorn Popper (and the kernels), French Coffee Press, an Electric Water Kettle, a wine opener, dishes - and more. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We also have a barbecue grill on the deck with an extra gas burner on the side. We provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, butter, honey, sugar, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter. If you have a baby and you won't be needing the second bed, make your reservation for 2 and let us know if you will need a small pad for the loft. Again, if there are 2 of you but you want to use the second bed, please make your reservation for 3. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and a Natures Head self-contained composting toilet. Some guests have had a problem with our bathroom, so I want to make it clear that we have a curtain for the door to the bathroom and we require that you put your used toilet paper in the trash. (it won't smell) If you follow the instructions for how to use the toilet, it won't have any odor. If you stay here for more than 1 night, you may need to change the pee bucket. We will do it for you if you want, but we do need you to pay attention to the pee level so it doesn't overflow! If the thought of using a composting toilet grosses you out, then don't make a reservation here. ; - ) We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends: Friday to Sunday. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Presidents Day, Memorial Day, M. L. King day, and Labor Day.) But to stay here on a weekend, you will usually have to book the cabin 6 - 8 months in advance - unless you are lucky to find a cancellation! Check-in time is between 4 and 10pm. If you want to come sooner or later, this can sometimes be arranged. Check-out time is noon. As we have experienced some damage from guests, we are now requiring a $100. security deposit. Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, New Leaf (a very large natural food store), restaurants, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as the 10,000 acre Forest Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. (these times are not during rush hour(s) ; - ) If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We usually have about 300 - 600 year-round) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus and Allen Hummers as well. So you have got to see our "Hummingbird Airport" where we feed them about 130 oz. of syrup on a summer day! Please, no smoking or vaping in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin and it is a fire hazard outside. Some cell phones don't work here, but since we have free wifi in the cabin, if your phone works with a wifi network, you are good to call. You can sometimes get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. To learn about things to do in the area, do an internet search for Santa Cruz, CA. Dogs are welcome to stay here but with a few requirements: since we have so many animals, we require that your dogs be kept on a leash when outside (the goats get very nervous with large loose dogs). Also, we don't allow dogs in the loft or on the couch downstairs so please bring a doggie bed. (your doggie can go on the couch if you bring a cover for it) If that is difficult, let us know and we will provide a doggie pillow. We have a gate that we can set up so your dog can be off the leash on the deck. If you are bringing a small child, we can put a folding futon (2/3rds of the futon or a foam pad next to the bed ) Just let us know ahead of time. Keep in mind, though, that a child should not be left in the loft by themselves as the bed is fairly high up against the rail. As we are about 3 miles to the nearest bus stop, it is pretty difficult to stay here without a car. You are invited, if you feel you would be harmonious here. Pet the goats, check out our chickens, cats, miniature dog and enjoy the very fresh air. If you come here when there is no moonlight and the sky is clear, you will see lots of stars. Tired of the heat in the summer? Since we are on the edge of the "fog belt", it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds or crickets chirping, the tree frogs croaking and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional chain saw. : ) (We feed the goats oak branches)
Even though we live only a 8 minute drive to Aptos village and the beaches, it feels very remote and private here. It is usually very quiet at night - sometimes we can hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach. There is lots of land to hike on and explore here as well. We have 8 people living here in a rather loose community.
  • The Mushroom Dome is exactly as magical as described and was just the getaway I was looking for. The location is fantastic; secluded enough to enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings while being close enough to town for all the food and groceries I needed. Not only did I enjoy the trails on the property, but I also appreciated the sizable DVD collection provided. Kitty & Michael were extremely attentive hosts and had great food and activity recommendations in the area. I would definitely love to return. (Oh, and that bed is super comfortable!)

    Chris2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Magical place, closer to Capitola and to great beaches! The mushroom dome is unique, very comfortable and Kitty is a sweetheart. Her dog Elliot is also a formidable companion :) The place invites you to disconnect, enjoy nature, cook, rest. It was the perfect setting to celebrate my partner’s birthday!

    Alisson2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty gave clear directions on how to get to the cabin and even personally met us at the driveway so we could get to know our hostess which was so nice. We were a little put off by the idea of a compostable toilet but after experiencing one and how clean and easy it seemed to maintain we're looking into replacing our standard toilet for a compostable one as well! Her cat milo was so friendly, although I'm allergic I couldn't help but show some love...and take some claritin! The landscaping was breathtaking throughout. Can't wait to come back with a book or two to read and enjoy in the garden. Kitty has a rulebook put together which some may find daunting...but if you read through the rules are pretty common sense. We loved her sense of humor and are looking forward to booking again soon.

  • Quiet, relaxing and quirky...enjoyed my stay!

    Heidi2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever encountered. Such a serene and beautiful environment. Kitty and Michael are incredible hosts and made us feel extremely welcome.

    Kitzia2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very great hosts and Kitty will take the extra time to welcome you and provide a little history about the place. The environment is serene and relaxing especially sitting on the deck drinking coffee and or having breakfast.

    Nada2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Even if you expect it to be perfect, Kitty & Michael will give your time a chance to expand your concept of perfection

    Paul2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael are gracious, kind-hearted super hosts. You will fall in love with the Mushroom Dome; my two friends and I felt at-home very quickly. The location is beautiful, the hosts are absolutely lovely, and the place itself is breathtaking. The bed upstairs is super comfortable and the shower is pleasant as well, with water that warms up right away. The Mushroom Dome is incredibly charming, and hearing about it’s history from Kitty adds another element of awe to your experience. This was my friends’ and I first AriBnB experience, and we feel so lucky to have chosen such a perfect place. None of us stumbled across any issues with our stay, and our entire trip was smooth and enjoyable. If you find dates that work for you, I urge you to book, I can’t imagine anyone regretting this stay!

Built on giant Douglas Fir trees, our treehouse is located on Lago Lomita Vineyards with a view of the entire Monterey Bay. The ladder/staircase leads to a 400 sq. ft. platform with a queen bed, electricity/WiFi in a tent! There is a full bath on the bottom floor of the main house, immediately inside the French Doors. See pics! Half hour to San Jose, 15 miles to the Capitola beach, and an hour from SFO or Monterey. Also, check out our 5 star yurt listing: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19876384
Both our treehouse and yurt listings are unique experiences. They both are adjacent to the Tierra Madre Vineyard Block and have awesome views of the entire Monterey Bay/Pacific Ocean. We are located on 44 acres high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains but close to all the major beaches and the Silicon Valley.
  • The vineyard is huge and has an unbeatable view. The treehouse is beautiful and clean. Robin was so nice to show us around the property and let us know all the precautions she took by disinfecting almost everything. THE BEST Airbnb experience I have ever had.

    Tongyi2020-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was such an amazing experience. Mark and Robin offered us exceptional hospitality during our 3 night stay. Beautiful property with amazing views. Better than we expected for sure. Robin greeted us every day with fresh pumpkin bread and muffins for breakfast. Don’t miss this opportunity for a once in a lifetime treehouse experience

    Sarah2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful! I know we aren't supposed to be "traveling", but we just desperately needed a dose of the world. I tried to still travel "safe" by booking somewhere that would be secluded from the public. My love & I find so much happiness in being daring & trying new things. Since we had never stayed in a treehouse before, this was a must! Not only was the treehouse the most adorable, yet cool place we've ever stayed, but Robin's land was incredible! the views were perfect. Robin was wonderful enough to give us a tour of the area, share some great personal stories, & provide us with some very sweet details (including a very delicious pumpkin pecan bread, ugh)! We are so happy we stayed here. I could go on & on about all the small details that made this stay so great, but i think you'll just have to see for yourself!! i absolutely recommend this place & all its glory! Thank you Mark & Robin for sharing this piece of your home with us all <3

    Lily2020-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I enjoyed spending time at Robin's treehouse. It was a unique experience, and Robin made us feel at home. We loved walking around the vineyard with the beautiful views of the mountains.

    Michael2020-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • This unique tree house experience is not to be missed! If you're looking for something completely different and adventurous this is it!

    Robyn2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay, very relaxing and time to slow down. Robin gave us a tour of their beautiful property and made sure we had everything we needed! Can’t wait to go back!

    Taylor2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Robin was an incredible host. Her treehouse and surrounding property surpassed all expectations. I was expecting something special, but upon arrival my mind was blown. I never dreamed of experiencing such a uniquely beautiful experience. I was nervous it was going to be uncomfortable in the tent because of the chilly nights in early March, but Robin had a space heater in the treehouse. It was warm and cozy all night long!

  • This place is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, or a week long getaway. You overlook the water and the path to the beach is a quick 3 minute walk down. The view is unbelievable. You hang out on the cliff, engulfed by the glorious beauty of the forever pounding ocean. Leave your white noise machines at home. The melodic drum of the waves crashing is perfect for bed time as well as meditating on the glorious, sunsoaked deck. Seashells abound in the early morning. The tides bring in some especially fantastic jewels across the coastline.

  • The Sunset Cottage is the perfect place to unwind and relax on the beach. Gorgeous view and a cozy, quaint space to decompress away from it all! Thanks again Nonie!

    Matthew2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • LOVE this place! The location and view are unbeatable. The studio is steps from the ocean, cozy, nice TV, and lots of blankets to keep warm. We hope to be back soon!

    Diana2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • WOW. If you're thinking the place is a little out of your price range, ask yourself what does a beautiful unique location on the beach mean to you. Then ask yourself, again, about all the times you might have tried to save a little. This is NOT one of those times!! The breathtaking views, comfy amenities and delicious, refreshing sounds and feel of rolling ocean waves make it all worthwhile. Indulge. Enjoy. You're worth it. You never know what you're missing, but this place is not to be missed. Monie's hospitality tops it all off with a healthy dose of comfort and accommodation.

Deck, patio, observation bench and floor to ceiling window to take in the spectacular sights and sound. Spacious (950 SF) with no other homes on the property. San Francisco (1 hour), 20 mins to Santa Cruz. Use as a base to explore area attractions; Henry Cowell, Big Basin, Santa Cruz, etc. Host does not live on or near premises so you have privacy.
Set amongst lovely redwood trees with creek running thru it, occasional visits from wild turkeys. Once you are inside, the A-Frame home offers lots of privacy. No backyard neighbors in view as there is a steep hill on the opposite side of the creek camouflaged by trees.
  • The cabin is picturesque. Right on a beautiful stream. Lots of sleeping space, great fireplace, and big kitchen. Also a great deck for relaxing. Very serene, but conveniently located near Santa Cruz. Highly recommend!

    Sam2020-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia’s place is quaint and homey. The creek and backyard were absolutely perfect! Easy to spend your day listening to the water and reading a book. The home is very close to neighbors but feels private once inside/on the back porch. A few suggestions if you’re wanting a home away from home experience: bring your own pots/pans if you plan to cook and a few extra throw blankets if you plan to stay during the cold months. Can’t wait to explore this place and the creek when it’s warmer.

    Monica2020-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a comfortable and cozy place. Loved the wood burning heater and balcony with the view of the creek. Had a great time here will definitely come back again.

  • Beautiful place

    Linh2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our stay here! We couldn't have picked a better weekend to lock ourselves away in a cabin and it was everything we could have asked for! We loved watching the rain fall through the huge windows while we curled up with the fireplace going. We highly recommend staying here!

    Jonathan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely getaway down twisting roads in a rustic cabin in the woods. Close enough to town for dinner or supplies but feels very secluded once there.

    Petrina2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, cute Cabin next to the creek. Thanks Cynthia

    Wes2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The heater is a bit loud but keeps you warm. Bring your own movies if you wanna any as there is only a small selection. Other than that it’s a great and wonderful space. Very quiet and private. Neighbors don’t disturb you at all they keep to themselves. Only thing is at night it’s really hard to see the road to turn onto where the house is located so drive pretty slow

  • This is a great spot for a relaxing solo retreat. I loved the outdoor tub and the privacy, surrounded by nature.

    Sara2020-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Cute spot nestled in nature. It was beautiful to be immersed in nature sounds, sit by a fire, and soak in the bathtub. The outdoor bathtub, although a bit old was amazing. The hammock under the redwoods is so relaxing. The bed was comfortable and room was cute and clean. It is more on the simple side which is what I love, but if that’s not your thing it’s good to know about. Stephanie was quick to respond to messages and very helpful!

    Kristy2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Went Beyond all of my expectations. Very special place. Stephanie is very responsive and professional as a host & extremely helpful. This is a gorgeous quiet retreat away from the world. The outdoor bathroom is extremely sophisticated and it’s rustic boho chic qualities went way beyond what I was expecting. The bed is the most comfortable bed that for the first time in years I felt like I got a real deep sleep. Such a magical place.

  • This place is amazing, make sure you bring some kind of slip on footwear as the bathroom area is outside. Very clean and nice. Beautiful scenery, wonderful wildlife, and an amazing place to be if you are looking to reconnect with the outdoors.

  • A good place to relax and feel the nature! Worth it!

    Rodrigo2020-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was a fantastic place to get away from the city for a few days and enjoy some natural beauty. The entire place was built by Patricia and her husband and you can really feel all of the heart and soul they put into it. The cabin was private and cozy, and it has its own porch that overlooks the property and the hills. We had full access to the hot tub and sauna, and particularly enjoyed both at night when we could see the stars. I will definitely be back for another stay!

    Sarah2020-04-03T00:00:00Z
  • Loved my little peace retreat! Patricia’s place was everything I had hoped for! I brought food for a few days with me could have just stayed right there the whole weekend. I enjoyed coffee on the porch every morning and hikes all over during the day. The hot tub was clean and relaxing under the stars. There are so many beautiful places to explore close by! There were two friendly couples renting the “penthouse” above me and I enjoyed hanging out with them one night. The overall vibe was warm and Patricia has the most beautiful gardens throughout the property. I can’t wait to being my mom back here someday! Bed was comfy and even on the rainy days, the views are majestic and peaceful. Hidden gem in the mountains right here!

    Shannon2020-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy little cabin in a beautiful setting! Make use of the wood fired sauna, it's such a treat!

    Suzanna2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We were unable to make it to Patricia’s place, but she was very nice and understanding. Seems like she’s a lovely lady and it’s a lovely place! Sad we didn’t get to go

    Daisy2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! Nice hot tub and has a sauna! Quiet and quaint area!

    Brenda2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Pat's place was a wonderful spot for a few days of respite and peace with beautiful views, and she was a kind host with lots of good tips about the area. I look forward to visiting again!

    David2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • There’s definitely a bit of Storybook to Patricia’s place. From the string of lights guiding you down the driveway to the persistent touches of handmade quality. The property is remote without being too far and makes the most of mountain sunrises.

A magical Redwood Treehouse located it the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. There is a live tree growing right through the main living area and another in the bathroom! It is simply incredible. It was built by my friend, Randy, a stained glass artist. Everyone who sees it are delighted by it. Please read entire description before making a reservation request. It has a delicious high-bed, a kitchen with a small stove and refrigerator, and typical cooking tools. There is a full bathroom with shower and toilet of course. There is now a hot-tub at about 103 degrees ready for your soak before bed or a morning treat. The Treehouse is a short walk of a few hundred yards (about four minutes) through the beautiful woods from the parking area. There is a gas stove for heating. There is a TV and DVD player with many movies to choose from. For travelers this is the best of both worlds. A wonderful treehouse nestled in the redwood forest, a short distance to HWY 1(Pacific Coast HWY) the main vein to Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, Capitola and Santa Cruz and the HWY 101 Corridor. People come from all over the world to experience the Pacific Coast specifically the Monterey Bay area. It is an area rich in history. Here you will find world class art, music, cuisine, golf, surfing, sightseeing, hiking, biking, sunbathing, whale watching, birding, fishing, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and so much more. You can spend the day engaged in a variety of activities, physical and/or cultural. However you spend your day you can return home to a mountain treehouse and quiet. The weather here is excellent. It is located in a micro climate called a ‘banana belt’. Though the beach is only 25 minutes away we are often in the sun when our neighbors in the valley and on the coast are in the fog. Winters are mild we average 25” of rainfall a year. Summers can be warm but delightful. The fog rolling in at night is nature’s air conditioner and everything cools down. The weather is nearly perfect. Fog burns off early enough to make the beaches comfortable all day. The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to Sequoia Sempervirens commonly known as a Redwood Tree. They are native only to a specific part of Pacific Coast region. Come and visit our amazing part of the world and experience something special about the California Coast. All linens are provided. The kitchen has the basic items for cooking, i.e., spices, oil, vinegar, sugar, and tea. Two-night minimum on weekends. THREE-DAY MINIMUM on HOLIDAY WEEKENDS. A 60.00 cleaning fee will be charged per each stay. We are a green establishment. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used. We ask our guests to consider using fewer towels during their stay and not requesting a sheet change unless your stay is longer than a week. I have a moderate cancellation policy. You must cancel a full seven days before your reservation. Please make sure that you read it thoroughly. You will be charged 50% of your stay if you cancel after the grace period.
  • My boyfriend and I feel this tree house is a hidden treasure. We were blown away at the level of craftsmanship of the house, as there are two great redwoods growing straight through it. One in the living space and another in the bathroom. We loved the rustic and homey feel of this woodsy den. The elevated bed was extremely comfortable and we enjoyed watching legends of the fall by candlelight after a home cooked dinner. The jacuzzi was an added gift to our beautiful night. An amazing setting with a backwoods feel. Our hosts were especially friendly and also accommodating. Expect a short trek through the redwoods to reach this gem. We suggest packing light and bringing a flashlight. A unique and soulful place with a story. The perfect place for a romantic stay.

  • It was such a lovely stay! Very quiet and cozy. We went in the jacuzzi, made dinner with a kitchen that had everything we needed, took a warm shower and watched old black & white movies while putting together a puzzle! The best part was our doggies were able to join us! Thank you MJ for making our tree house dreams come true :)

    Caitlin2020-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a unique and special experience :) a short walk to the tree house very private. There are other dogs in the area so be weary if you also have a pup I had no issues !! Very friendly pit across the way that played with my pup around the woods ! There was a friendly face once we arrived to make sure we knew were to go to the home! The best part (other than the fact that we were in a literal treehouse) was the lights all around the house! I was able to get some amazing photos. Thank you for being an amazing host ! Some tips! Don’t pack too much since there is a walk to the home Don’t pack too many cold food items or larger items as she notes in the photo it is a mini fridge! Bring coal if you wanted to use the little grill. Bring coffee grounds (if you need it) AND ENJOY. YOURE IN A TREE HOUSE!!

  • Our April visit to the Redwood Treehouse was a birthday treat for my husband, planned months ago before the uncertainty in the world today with the pandemic around us all. Our host, Mary Jane, welcomed us to her place & we felt very much like kids, as we made our way to our 3-night adventure. The small trek into the redwoods offered an immediate tranquility...it led us out of the hectic world & into a more serene one. Seeing the treehouse all nestled in the beauty, we were anxious to see inside! The warm feeling when we first opened the door was incredible to say the least & something I don't remember ever having in a traditional stay. Everything has been thoughtfully arranged & there wasn't anything we needed outside of the food & drink we took along. We enjoyed the views while we sat outside with our morning tea, & again in the late afternoons with a bottle of wine & some cheese after a nap. The hot tub was the perfect temperature & relaxed us before bed, as we would then enjoy a movie together in the quiet around us. Sleep was most soothing & so needed from our everyday city pace - the bed was comfy & warm, with a nice gas stove for a special ambiance that I don't remember having in my childhood treehouse :) My husband cooked up the meals on the grill, as I finished up in the kitchen - sitting down to a dinner table had become foreign to us with our schedules & we loved connecting with each other again. Mary Jane, we will be back...hopefully, we'll be able to nuzzle our way back on the calendar soon since many of our friends are looking to schedule their much needed retreats too...they're looking forward to the serenity we've TRIED to describe! Thank you for sharing the treehouse adventure with us - we're still enjoying the memories!!

    Kelly2020-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Mary Jane's place was amazing!!! Can't say enough how beautiful the treehouse is, especially with all the twinkle lights on at night. The cabin is very rustic and charming, and has everything one needs for an amazing stay. We loved that we had to hike down a trail for ~5 minutes to get there - it just added to the special experience. The hot tub was the cherry on top! We used it every night.

    Alex2020-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to the treehouse and it was just as great as the first visit. We love the secluded location amongst the redwoods. A wonderful destination to get away from it all. Definitely a unique and special experience staying here. Mary Jane is the ideal Airbnb host. She provided us with all the information needed and was quick to respond with any questions.

  • The PERFECT Romantic Getaway

    Kayla2020-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing treehouse stay. Legit treehouse with trees growing right through the space while still feeling cozy and homey as a old timey cabin. Clean and well organized. No bugs. Heaters worked well. SO amazingly quiet. Walking through the forest to get to the spot was super fun.

Sweet and charming space for one or two, in the heart of Live Oak, Santa Cruz. Our home is close to beaches and upper harbor (1.3 miles) and 10 minutes by car to SC Beach Boardwalk and Capitola by the Sea. Comfy double-sized vintage iron bed, a small separate bathroom and a small but charming outdoor area! This is a totally self-contained space with a private entrance!
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY SO THERE ARE NO SURPRISES! Approximately 240 square feet and can house one or two guests. It has a *small* separate bathroom with toilet, stall shower and a toilet tank sink. There are pictures of the toilet tank sink in our listing photos and we recommend that you check them out if you have never seen one before! PLEASE NOTE: The bed is a Full-sized vintage iron bed with iron headboard and footboard. This is noted on the original listing page. Full size mattresses are approximately 52 x 74 inches so it can accommodate guests a little over 6 feet tall. Taller guests should consider this when booking! PLEASE ALSO NOTE! We have replaced the old on-demand water heater with a new, dedicated on-demand water heater! No more "hot/cold" showers! Perfect temp and pressure for your enjoyment! Full kitchenette!
Our home is in a neighborhood that has children, dogs/cats and chickens. We have 2 dogs, 1 cat and 3 chickens ourselves - so it is a bit like the country in our back yard. Animal noise is there but not intrusive. Guests are welcome to text us if there are any noise disturbances that we can attend to.
  • Maria and Geoff's casita is in a convenient and very quiet location. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is plenty of privacy and space from the main house. Maria and Geoff are great hosts and they've really tried to think of everything to make your stay comfortable.

    Katie2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice place to stay. Highly recommend.

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Maria's place was a dreamy place to stay for a short trip to Santa Cruz! Thank you!

    Chisa2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The studio/cottage is very sweet and had everything we needed. We especially appreciated being able to prepare meals there.

    Ellen2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Maria was incredibly responsive. For example, I texted her at midnight the day before our stay asking if we could change our check-in time. She responded immediately and was very accommodating. We loved meeting the hens she lived with, they are very sweet and beautiful. The casita is a guesthouse in the back yard, which is basically a one room studio, but everything is very well organized and it feels like plenty of space. We had a wonderful time and would return if we came back to Santa Cruz.

    Andrew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This little casita is a jewel. The space is small but perfect for one person. I stayed a week this time for a solo writing retreat and the privacy and quiet were just what I needed to work. I love the old Wedgewood stove and could cook all of my meals with food I brought myself. That plus the discount for the week’s booking made it possible to give myself the gift of solitude, with the ocean nearby for evening walks at the end of the working day. Many thanks to Maria and Geoff for keeping this tiny space in good working order, clean and bright!

    Cari2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The guest house was very cozy and comfortable. Easy access to lots of fun Santa Cruz attractions and Maria is very welcoming!

    Hannah2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect stay and location near the Santa Cruz Harbor. The street is residential and felt very safe. I'd stay here again in a heart beat.

Conveniently located in a sunny and peaceful midtown residential neighborhood an easy walk to Seabright restaurants*** , beaches, and the harbor; close to downtown. Pretty and comfortable with wood floors, a patio for dining, a great kitchen with new appliances, direct TV + Roku. Great for friends and families--can accommodate 6 if 1 person takes loft bed.
A block away from Midtown shops and restaurants. Easy walk to downtown and to Seabright Beach. Comfortable house with brand new mattresses on beds and additional memory foam topper for sofa bed.
The Seabright Neighborhood, known for its sea breezes and sunshine, is considered one of the more desirable locations in Santa Cruz as it is close to everything while being, at the same time, quiet, friendly, and residential. Soquel, its main Midtown avenue, with the addition of several very good restaurants and night spots, is fast becoming a local upscale trend setter. Grocery shopping is a treat with two popular well-stocked, local groceries within easy walking distance--the Staff of Life Natural Foods and Shopper's Corner (two of Santa Cruz' favorites)--as well as a Whole Foods a block away. A great way to start the day is a walk west on Soquel to The Buttery for pastries and coffee on their patio or straight down Seabright toward the ocean to Linda's Seabreeze Cafe, recently voted #1 in Santa Cruz by Trip Advisor.

  • We had a great time in Santa Cruz, and the place was perfect for a couple. The deck and garden were picturesque, and everything inside was thoughtfully done. The amount of natural light that comes in through the skylights is wonderful.

  • Great spot in Santa Cruz! Such a cozy cottage, we wish we could have stayed longer.

    Mindy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about the cottage was so nice - high quality new appliances in the kitchen area, nice furniture, and a really comfortable bed. The location is ideal - walking distance from pacific ave and the boardwalk. Overall excellent.

    Justin2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Carla’s place was perfect for what we were looking for. We were in SC for only one night and wanted somewhere close to the pier and midtown area, and this place was perfect, less than a 2 min drive. Also the apartment was super clean and neat, and ready with towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, blankets, etc. they had recently done a renovation to the unit and the kitchen was perfect with everything you could need. I highly recommend staying here if you get the chance! Plus the backyard is very quaint with lemon trees and bamboo. Just an overall lovely place to stay

Retreat in a luscious green canyon and discover the magic of Santa Cruz. We are perfectly located, surrounded by incredible nature & close to all the goodness Santa Cruz has to offer: dining, shopping, nature, trails, golf courses-all without having to navigate traffic to get there. Our apartment is a great place for couples to focus on each other & relax into themselves; solo adventurers and business travelers will also find this apartment has all the home away from home goodies one could want
Our apartment is a perfect retreat space, romantic getaway or base for adventure. Our intent was to make it feel like a home away from home & the feedback has confirmed that. The canyon is green & luscious, the trees are so beautiful, the creek below is flowing and the fireplace keeps the space warm & cozy on cool evenings. The deck chairs offer an invitation to take it all in. The full kitchen allows for your dining-in needs to be easily fulfilled. The primary heat source is a wood-burning stove. We have directions on how to build a great fire if you're not already an expert fire builder. It's easy to relax here in the canyon.
Our neighborhoods greatest gift is the peace of nature & the close proximity to town. Our house is also off the main roads enough to be able to avoid (for the most part) the summer traffic coming and going from downtown & the beach.
  • A wonderful place to stay and so cozy! We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and artistic nature of the space. You’re in for a real treat!!

  • The Zen Canyon is easily twice as amazing as it looks at face value. Spent an incredible weekend with a loved one at Debra's amazing apartment space. There was plenty of wood and supplies to build a fire and unwind and enjoy some rainy Santa Cruz nights. Very close to downtown and easily accessible. The famous Mystery Spot is around the corner as well. Plenty of kitchen supplies to cook for yourself if wanted. Absolutely amazing back porch overlooking the forested canyon. 10/10 would and will return in the future. Thank you for the gracious hospitality and accommodations!

**We're still hosting guests who identify as acceptable (essential) travelers as defined by the county's health ordinance.** Get back in touch with nature in a farmhouse-style property next to abundant woodlands and hiking trails. It's an airy, skylit space with honey-colored hardwood floors and a well-equipped kitchen. Bathe in a claw-foot tub and relax on a wooden porch. Please note that this house shares the property with the owners who live in the main house, and an Airstream which also hosts guests.
This is our guest house located on the same property as our home (about 50 feet away). We also have an Airstream that friends and family stay in which is located on the property (also located about 50-100 feet away). If you're looking to get out of the city and be surrounded by nature, then look no further! There is wildlife all around, including deer, owls, hawks, and more! The home features all new furniture that has been carefully designed for relaxation and comfort. You can cook a delicious meal, enjoy a glass of wine in the gorgeous claw foot tub, and de-stress away from it all.
The house is in the redwood area of Santa Cruz. Drive to downtown and the beach in a few minutes. It's close to the historic Mystery Spot, and is across the street from DeLaveaga Park with its great hiking trails.
  • This is my 2nd stay at one of Kris and Shane’s places. It definitely won’t be my last. They’re guest house is soo cozy and very welcoming. JADE STUDIO has a queen bed, private bathroom with shower, kitchenette, private entrance via side stairs, and private second-story deck. PRIVATE BUT NOT PRIVACY: The studio is inside our home so although we may never see you, we may hear you and you may hear us because the walls are thin. ADDITIONAL BED: For 1 or 2 guests, the queen bed is provided. If you would like separate beds, please tell us and we will set up the futon bed for a one-time charge of $30. For 3 guests, we set up the single futon bed. Price is included. For 4 guests, we set up an additional single floor bed. Price is included. Be sure to notify us when you book if you want this option.
Our neighborhood is a relatively quiet neighborhood with an assortment of people who enjoy living near the beach--including long-time residents, families, retired people, UCSC students, and surfers interspersed to keep it characteristic of Santa Cruz. Two blocks away is a modest shopping center which hosts the local farmer's market on Sunday mornings. A handful of eateries and a coffee shop, from fast food to upscale dining, line the two blocks toward the beaches. A back way to the beach (our special secret) is three lovely blocks, two of which are walking/biking trails, one lined with Cypress trees, and the next along a lagoon lined with Eucalyptus trees. The Harbor and Crows Nest restaurant and nightclub are a several blocks to the west along the shore. Downtown Santa Cruz is 3 miles west and Capitola, a quaint seaside town, is 2 miles east. Both are easily accessible by bike lanes, public transportation and car.

  • Mara's place is an amazing little retreat. It's very private, and the hot tub is the highlight - it is tucked away in the back surrounded by bamboo. It makes you feel like you are at a spa! Highly recommend.

  • I had a very enjoyable short stay at Barbara's. I felt at home right away. She was very attentive and quick with replies. The checkin process was very easy, the place is very clean, well organized and beautifully decorated. I was lucky to be there on a sunny day where I could enjoy the sunshine in the backyard too. I would recommend to anyone looking for a pleasant space in Santa Cruz.

    Christine2020-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved The Bungalow and were thoroughly comfortable there during our stay. The space is on the small side, but has everything you need and didn’t feel cramped at all. We particularly liked the sweet outdoor space, the bed is comfy and the tea and snacks were much appreciated! The location of the spot is great and we walked to the beach, coffee shops and restaurants. Terrific place and we’d love to stay again some day.

    Ellen2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The place was close to everything. We rode our bicycles everywhere for a few days. It was a 10 minute ride to anywhere you wanted to go. Highly recommended.

    Robin2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Bungalow is the perfect place to spend a sunny weekend in Santa Cruz. We had an amazing time and really appreciated all the little touches in the space. The patio area was definitely a treat. Highly recommend. Thank you!

    Dolly2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute space, clean, had everything we needed for a great stay.

    katherine2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara's bungalow was perfect for the two of us. It was spotless. The bed was super-comfortable. Barbara provided very soft sheets and luxuriously soft towels. The kitchen has everything you would ever need. The unit is very quiet, and has beautiful furnishings with such an artistic touch. It is centrally located and close to the beach, hiking, grocery stores and much more. It has a private patio with lovely landscaping. She also had fresh fruit, snacks, oatmeal, coffee and tea for us when we arrived! What a nice touch! Barbara responded immediately to any question I had. We give this property our absolute highest recommendation!!! Thank you, Barbara for such a nice stay!!!

    Annette2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Full disclosure, our trip was taken over by falling ill the day of arrival and utilizing the space for recovery for the remainder of our stay. To that end, this review reflects our unexpected needs for recovery during our stay. Barbara was extremely communicative in every way. She checked in for our arrival time to best provide us with a convenient means of unloading via temporary use of the driveway. As a note, updates on your estimated arrival time will be appreciated. There was a bit of a mix up on payment of the $98 tax in cash upon arrival so be sure to place the cash in the envelope and the envelope into the black mailbox outside the bungalow door immediately upon arrival. Two individual space heaters were provided and much appreciated for our recovery. One is a radiator space heater, the other is a fan space heater. We found the fan space heater more effective and continuously moved it around with us in the unit. We always carry an extension cord and power strip with us and made good use of it to extend the reach of the heater. The unit had nearly everything we needed and Barbara quickly accommodated with anything else. We ended up requesting the following: new dish sponge, strainer, peeler, chopping knife, additional toilet paper, tissue box, and replacement garbage bags. A small pot and several pans are provided. Though I’m sure Barbara would have provided one had we asked, we brought our own large pot to make a big batch of soup. About halfway through our stay, Barbara offered to provide a fresh set of towels which we gladly accepted. A couple things to note for future guests: Ants do sometimes enter the unit. Traps are placed outside but just something to keep in mind. Wi-Fi hardly works in the bedroom so anticipate using it more in the other parts of the unit. The fire alarm will go off when cooking since there is no stove hood in the unit. To alleviate this, we would keep doors and windows open while one of us would fan the fire alarm while cooking. Also there is no dish drying rack which would be helpful if you plan to do a lot of cooking and dish washing but I’m sure one would have been provided if requested. Overall our stay was pleasant. We very much enjoyed the back patio when the sun was shining on it. Parking wasn’t a problem and the proximity to various attractions and necessities is phenomenal.

    Ashleigh2020-04-12T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend staying at April's place when visiting Santa Cruz. It was sparkling clean with good amenities for relaxing and cooking. It was conveniently located on the west side just a short drive to the beaches and restaurants - it is not within walking distance if that is what you are looking for. April was a very responsive host, answering my questions within minutes. Thanks again!

  • Very nice

    Myshael2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super duper clean and comfy. It’s maybe a bit pricey for the amount of space, but it’s Santa Cruz so I guess that’s to be expected.

    Ryan2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We are so happy with our choice to stay at April’s place over a hotel. The house was immaculate, clean, and the beds were very comfortable! You can’t beat the location...just a few miles from the wharf and Boardwalk, and within walking distance to some excellent restaurants. Try Burger. and Donnelly’s chocolates if you stay here and are looking for a great place to eat or a sweet treat. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay at April’s the next time we are in town.

Be in Santa Cruz, in your own place, away from tourists. Vintage 1949 structure (with original cracked driveway!) Enjoy what this town has to offer but don’t be part of the tourism trails. This is a duplex, in a single family residential zone. One bedroom (queen) bed, living room, kitchen (no dish washer) and bathroom (shower with tub): Charming, quiet and quaint, privacy provided by mature greenery, enjoy this vintage home (duplex- bungalow/small cottage style, do not expect NY modernity) in an older residential area of central Santa Cruz [homes are middle of the road.] The modern euro kitchen is fully equipped (gas range but no dishwasher), the bedroom filled with dappled sunshine, you will find original art and Italian mirror from Venice, tiled bathroom (shower-tub)- double paned windows and creamy original hardwood floors. Enjoy the cosmopolitan decor. Weather permitting enjoy the front garden with a glass of wine... Note that the work- intensive garden comprises part of this rental/cost. A simple hotel room with no garden might be less expensive, but less pleasing. The garden is completely organic, with a variety of seasonal fruits and flowering. As this airbnb is for long term use only, by the month, no hotel tax is charged. We are a 25~30 minute walk to downtown Santa Cruz, a 10 min bike ride to the beach, and redwood forests. Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur are 50 minutes to 1 hr 15 minutes away. San Francisco/Bay Area 1 hr 20 minutes, drive up the beautiful California Coastal Highway 1 (or spin up to Davenport for a nice dinner, about 30 min north on the coastal highway). Mainly this small private residence will allow you to visit Santa Cruz, be here for events or just to drive by the coast and enjoy what the region has to offer. (This residence is not within walking distance to beaches or shopping.) Grant St park is at the opposite end, and Branciforte creek is nearby for a nice walk! From this location you can also easily reach Monterey (45 min by auto), Carmel (50 min) or Big Sur (one hour) going south, or Silicon Valley & SF going north. Downtown is about a 20-30 min walk along the river path (please see map at close range) or a 6 min bike ride, and a few minutes more to great beaches such as Seabright beach. You are within a relatively short distance to 3 fine organic grocery stores (World Foods, Staff of Life and New Leaf store downtown) and Shopper’s Corner (8 min by bike) which is famous for its sausages from Corralitos! The nearby Buttery (8 min by bike) is famous as a bakery/cafe to have breakfast or lunch while sitting outdoors, with delicious and pretty baked items as well as bistro foods. The famed Charlie Hong Kong (7 min by bike) provides fast organic food, just a few minutes by bike. Marianne’s Ice cream is within easy walking distance. (Denny's/SC Diner too!) The University of Ca Santa Cruz is about a 10 min drive. 4 minutes from the De Laveaga Golf Course Clubhouse, great if you're in town for a tournament or just like to play. If you think this special place is right for you, please write a short note with the details of your visit. This is a NO SMOKING property. If you/guest smoke, please do not ask to reserve this property. Maximum two people. No shoes inside. Bed linens, towels etc are crispy clean & sun-dried. This household tries to be as organic as possible~ recycling is encouraged! Also no pesticides or herbicides at all are used in the garden. Easy and convenient 24 hr accessible check-in time. • Clean, great location, Comfy bed, great shower. It's obvious someone lives here when it's not being rented because the place is full of personal effects as well as a full kitchen full of cooking gadgets and spices. It was nice to have a fully stocked kitchen but honestly it felt kind of weird having the family's personal items everywhere, kind of made me feel like I was trespassing lol. Overall a great experience though.

crazy times. 30 day stays or longer til further notice. What our guests say is that they like a cottage that is not in the host's backyard. Located on a seldom used alley 2 blocks from the beach, harbor, and restaurants. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is a walk of about 1 1/2 miles or 2 miles driving. Guests appreciate that the cottage is only used by humans. Please have all guests read the listing description so all are informed.
No smoking on this property. Inside or outside. Please don't risk your security deposit by smoking. This property is appropriate for humans only. Please be aware that if you park in any of the neighbor's parking spaces my phone will ring. My neighbors are friendly and I like to keep it that way. Come discover why Santa Cruz is such a popular destination. Our stand alone cottage (not in our back yard) is on a quiet alley way centrally located near great activities. Easy walking to the yacht harbor and beach so you can rent kayaks, surf boards, SUPs (stand up paddling). Bicycling along the ocean is fairly flat or go to the mountains for a challenging mountain bike ride. Or course one of the best beaches for sun bathing and volleyball is an easy two block walk right behind the ever popular Crow’s Nest Restaurant. TripAdvisor is listing Santa Cruz as No. 15 among U.S. destinations on the rise, partly for being one of America’s surfing capitals. The top three things to do as recommended by visitors: West Cliff Drive, for breathtaking views and a chance to see monarch butterflies, the San¬ta Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum. Santa Cruz Food Tour is the top-rated tour, fol¬lowed by Stagnaro Fishing Trips & Whale Watching and Chardonnay Sailing Charters. West Cliff Inn is the top-rated hotel, followed by Dream Inn, Sea and Sand Inn, Edgewater Beach Motel and Bella Notte. Malabar Cafe, which features Asian and vegetarian cuisine, is the top-rated restaurant, followed by Marianne’s Ice Cream and Zachary’s. This cozy and clean studio cottage is self contained. It has a queen size Murphy (wall bed) bed that easily folds up for extra space during the day and a standard twin bed that pulls out of the couch. I just bought a new La-Z-Boy twin sleeper June 2014 so I believe it is as comfortable as it gets. The charming bathroom has a blue tiled shower with unlimited hot water. There is also a hair dryer. The full kitchen comes with a toaster, blender, coffee maker, gas stove, microwave, and refrigerator. We also have an ironing board and iron for your convenience. Comcast provides services for Wi-Fi, and the 32” flat screen smart TV. There is also a DVD player. We make available clean sheets, pillow cases, and blankets for your convenience. Or you can bring your own linens. It will be up to you to make the beds. For the bathroom we provide towels, hand towels, and wash cloths. There are also 4 beach towels. Within walking distance we have everything you need for a lazy day. For restaurants close by you can walk to the Crow’s Nest, Johnny’s Harborside, El Palomar Café, Java Junction (coffee), Harbor Café (breakfast and lunch). Aldo’s (update... 2016 Aldo's is serving out of a food truck with beautiful outside seating) is on the other side of the harbor which is great for a long walk. During the summer there is a free water taxi that goes around the harbor. Slow, calm, and great for all ages. For local grocery stores Santa Cruz style we have Shopper’s Corner, New Leaf, and Staff of Life. We also have two Whole Foods and a Trader Joe’s. Right around the corner on 7th is the local convenience store and deli called Deke's. I am surprised that TripAdvisor didn’t mention Pacific Garden Mall for an activity. Downtown is a really cool way to get exposure to Santa Cruz. Just sit on a bench and watch what goes by. Or course they have movies and restaurants and shopping and treats. Our rates are seasonal so watch the calendar for the current rate. If you enjoy long beach walks or walks around a harbor where the scenery is forever changing this is the place for you. The low sounds of sea lions in the distance and the long lines of Brown Pelicans flying by are always mesmerizing. If you enjoy great restaurants the world famous Shadowbrook in Capitola consistently gets voted for most romantic. The Cottage is located near everything! Just a 5 minute walk up Seventh Avenue from Twin Lakes Beach and the Santa Cruz Harbor. You will find beachfront dining, volleyball, Thursday Night Beach BBQ and Music, Wednesday Afternoon Sailing Regatta, Saturday morning Ukulele community beach group, and your spot for bonfires on the beach. Just 2 miles away is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, with free Wednesday Night Movies on the Beach and Friday Night Concerts. Downtown Santa Cruz is just 10 minutes away and is the spot for movies, dining, shopping, and people watching. Capitola Village (3 miles) is a cute waterfront village with entertainment, dining, and shopping (also another beautiful beach). San Francisco is an hour and one half away north and Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur are just one hour south. UCSC, Cal, Stanford, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, and Cal State University, Monterey Bay are all within an hour away. We hope you choose our cottage for your stay.
People are really friendly in this comfortable neighborhood. You can just park your car and have plenty to do within walking distance. Or use it for home base and visit Big Sur or the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There is plenty of beauty and action right here. Amazing what you will find to do. Always something happening in Santa Cruz.
  • Kirk’s place was clean, convenient, and peaceful. Very close to the beach. Communication was great, and he made sure I’ve got everything I needed to enjoy my stay. Couldn’t ask for a better place/host.

  • This is a great spot! Super comfy and homey and a great location to everything fun in Santa Cruz! It’s well stocked in the kitchen with small appliances and cooking utensils, etc. Kirk was quick to respond on any inquiries we had. We really enjoyed our stay here and will keep it as a fav for our next time we visit!

  • Easy access to the beach and a nice place to stay.

    Heather2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very clean and accommodating. The location is really close to the beach but the photos kinda indicate that it’s a little like walking directly out the door into the beach. I didn’t realize it’d be a short walk, which was fine. I think I would’ve preferred a little clarification. Anyway, the water heat and pressure was spectacular and there weren’t any surprises which I like.

  • Kristina's place was amazing! It was clean, homey, and the perfect little get away. We can't wait to stay in the van again!

    Melissa2020-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • My roommate and I were originally looking for a house to stay in for spring break but when we came across Kristina's van we were sold. It was super safe and comfortable, overall we had a great time and would definitely book again!

  • The best!! Such a nice van and so much fun!!

    Samuel2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay with Kristina’s van. And both times, it was stellar. The mattress is super comfy, the fridge holds everything that we need. Her gas powered stove is perfect for all of our meals. Her van is minimal but, has all the Necessities. She has a lovely spot to park the van in Davenport and we have given her a heads up on a lovely spot to park in Pacific Grove just south of Monterey. We cannot wait to rent the van again, for our third stay. XOXO

    Niki2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Best Airbnb experience yet. Kristina did a great job on the van design and is a super attentive host, getting back to me quickly and working with my schedule. Everything was much better than expected.. the van gets great gas mileage. HIGHLY Recommended to anyone and everyone who wants the van life experience.

    Lara2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I took the van down to Big Sur for the weekend. The van exceeded our expectations! Very clean and comfortable! We used the van in February so it got pretty chilly at night so I suggest bringing extra blankets and pillows. This was hands down our favorite trip and we highly suggest booking with Kristina. We will definitely be doing this weekend trip again!

In this highly desirable Westside Santa Cruz neighborhood, you will be only a short walk from: the Boardwalk, voted the “World's Best Seaside Amusement Park; the 100-year old Municipal Wharf with its restaurants and kayak rentals; world-class surf breaks (Cowells, which is beginner-friendly, and Steamer Lane); and a choice of beaches. From this strategic Westside location it's easy to get to downtown's shops and eateries as well as UCSC.
For our guest’s safety and peace-of-mind please know that we follow the recently published cleaning protocol “CDC Cleaning Recommendations for U.S. Households for Corona virus Disease 2019”, after every guest. This strikingly attractive, recently constructed, one-bedroom, one-bath stand-alone apartment is nestled behind a charming 1920s home, where Joe DiMaggio and wife Marilyn Monroe once were guests. From this strategic Westside location it's easy to get to downtown's shops and eateries as well as UCSC – an extraordinary hillside campus as well as pristine beaches and surf breaks just north of town on Highway 1. Redwood forests with the tallest trees on our planet are just a short drive away. Santa Cruz is a favorite of those into outdoor activities and communing with the natural setting of the Monterey Bay, a premier National Marine Sanctuary. Uncrowded outdoor activities in the area. Your Aloha apartment, tastefully appointed with top-quality furnishings, includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable queen-size bed in a private bedroom. In the living room, you'll find a comfy couch, leather chair, DVD-player with flat screen smart T.V. and streaming Netflix service. Free Wi-Fi. A forced-air furnace will keep you cozy if there's a chilly seaside morning. Outdoor garden-level area to relax as well as a hot shower and hot tub, shared with the main house. Residential street with free parking – a favorite parking street for surfers and those wanting to walk, bike or run on West Cliff Drive along the Monterey Bay. I provide a variety of teas and coffee for your enjoyment. You will find a bike rack you can use. And surfers will be stoked with the outdoor (but out of sunlight) rack for drying their wetsuits. In the Aloha spirit, one half of the net revenue from Airbnb is donated through the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County to help people in need and worthy causes. Kindly note: The City of Santa Cruz levies an 11% Transient Occupancy Tax to be paid by all short-term guests. Even though most cities have such a “hotel tax," Airbnb isn't yet set up to charge this (hopefully that changes soon!) and doesn't allow hosts to include it in the rates. Therefore I need to ask you to bring with you a check (payable to the City of Santa Cruz) or cash equivalent to 11% of what you paid airbnb. Apologies in advance for the awkwardness of this, and thank you for your understanding.
Quiet, peaceful, seaside home-owner neighborhood. (And if you open the windows you may well hear barking seals and surf when it's raging.)
  • The Aloha Apartment is definitely one we will visit again if given the opportunity. Everything was perfect for two! Definitely a surfers dream!

    Randi2020-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • The location is ideal for those visiting Santa Cruz for the first time. It is walking distance to the boardwalk and west cliff. The place itself is cozy and clean. The kitchen was fully supplied. The hot tub was a nice plus for soaking after the cold. The place is in a back house, but for the most part privacy was never an issue. Overall, a perfect stay for couples for a pair.

A redwood-floored, sun-filled, shuttered bedroom with arched windows and gabled ceiling in a unique 1860s home in Santa Cruz. My 'Carpenter Gothic' home is one of the earliest houses built by settlers. Both bedroom and adjacent bathroom (shower, toilet, washbasin) are fully remodelled and immaculately clean on the second floor of my home. The guest room is private, quiet, and has its own entrance staircase. It offers panoramic views of the Monterey Bay in one of Santa Cruz's oldest, safest, quietest neighborhoods. Walking distance to downtown through other historic areas. 1/2 acre of mature gardens and an 'orchidarium' surround this unique house on the hill. The bus line to UCSC has a stop 3 minutes' walk away; the main terminus is a 15" walk - all downhill! Nearby attractions include the Santa Cruz Mission; Mission Plaza park; historic downtown replete with Victorian homes; a large variety of coffee shops and restaurants. The bus goes straight up to UCSC campus; the bike ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and granny gears! Pogonip open space/UCSC campus is also walking accessible. Please read/view all details regarding beds and breakfast offerings thoroughly.
The West side of Santa Cruz is an extension, uphill, from the historic Mission Plaza. It is on of the original 'neighbourhoods' in Santa Cruz with many mid-late 1800s homes providing spectacular panoramic views of Monterey Bay. My house was an original 'settler' homestead, built in the 1860s in one of the finest locations then and now.
  • Caroline is a fantastic host. Warm, friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious, and had a great view of the city and the ocean. And it's an easy walk into downtown. I'd stay there again for sure the next time I'm visiting Santa Cruz!

    Stephen2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely host, beautiful house and comfortable room. Would come back in a heartbeat.

    Bill2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline's is a historic, cheerful, well loved, peaceful home. We enjoyed sharing breakfast and learning about the area, eating her amazing homemade jam with our continental breakfast, and touring her lovely gardens She was clear, helpful and our room was light filled and comfortable with a view of the ocean in the distance. We would be happy to return!

    Martin2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

    Michael2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline is a wonderfully friendly host and shares lots of valuable recommendations. Her beautiful house is perfectly located to walk downtown or to grab an Uber bike and easily get to other parts of the city. If you can do without a kitchen, like waking up to beautiful sunrises with a view of the ocean in a very quiet yet centrally located place, Caroline’s is the perfect place for you. I stayed for almost a month and would return again in a heartbeat to stay in a place that felt like a home away from home. Thank you!

    Muriel2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Caroline’s over new year’s eve was delightful, sweet and everything I hoped for! I loved all the charming and curious treasures throughout her home and adored sharing tea and (s)poring over pictures of mushrooms. 💕 I hope to return to Santa Cruz and Caroline’s spot soon!

Beautiful quiet separate apartment with lovely patio, fruit trees and organic gardens. Fits two w/private full bath. Easy access to east/west cliff surf spots. 5 minutes to beaches, the wharf, harbor or downtown.
The apartment has a private entrance and a full private bath. There is a full size (double) bed with a BRAND NEW MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS made of natural latex, AND NEW BOX SPRINGS, new pillows, sheets and a down comforter. The bathroom is new and immaculately clean (we use only non toxic cleaning products). The apartment has just been freshly painted with non- v.o.c. paint. There is a mini fridge, hot water kettle, and coffee or tea. We provide towels and beach chairs. Help yourselves to any of the organic fruit trees when they are in season. There are pears, apples, persimmons, meyer lemons and loquats, limes, blood oranges, pluots, dates and figs and blueberries!
This neighborhood is known as the banana belt because it's the sunniest spot in Santa Cruz! We are located in easy walking distance from several great local restaurants like the Crepe Place (best place to see live music most nights of the week) and Lillian's (Italian restaurant, extremely popular). There's also great sushi (Akira) and Thai food (Real Thai-delivers!). It's a 5 minute walk to the Buttery Bakery (amazing pastries, coffee, brunch) and to Shopper's Corner grocery. It's a quiet residential neighborhood but still with quick and easy access to beaches, boardwalk and downtown.

High lofted ceilings. Wonderful morning light. Quiet neighborhood for being a little more than light density. 375 sq. ft. plus loft.
Attached yet separate unit. There is a door between spaces that is locked from both sides. Bedroom is private. Bathroom with shower. Kitchen / dining area with loft. Queen bed in bedroom and queen bed in loft. An additional twin mattress can be brought into the unit up on request. Good pick if you are sensitive to chemicals, harsh cleaners, pets and possibly allergens. Hardwood floors and only natural detergents used on the linens.

Private entrance , jacuzzi tub and a great location.
Note: Santa Cruz is still on Shelter in Place so rentals are only available to essential workers. The private entrance makes for easy social distancing. No access to the main house including kitchen. If the weather is good, guests are welcome to sit on the outdoor sofa. Outdoor kitchen not set up for cooking during this time. We have a second master bedroom with a full ensuite bathroom, so we figured we'd give Airbnb a try. We are just two blocks from downtown Santa Cruz, yet with spectacular views of downtown, the Santa Cruz mountains and Monterey Bay. Walk to the downtown shops and restaurants or take a short drive (or 25 minute walk) down to the Boardwalk, Santa Cruz Wharf or West Cliff Drive. Queen size bed, dual sinks, shower and even a jacuzzi tub are all yours. In addition to the house kitchen, we have an outdoor kitchen in the garden you are free to use. Come enjoy the best of Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay area Our house is a short walk down a pretty steep staircase to downtown Santa Cruz. Lots of restaurants, shops, movie theaters, market, etc. all within a few blocks. The beach is about a 25 minute walk away.

  • Super clean with convenient location! Loved the tub. Would recommend bringing a sleep mask with all the natural lighting. Also if you're a light sleeper bring some ear plugs because of the proximity to downtown there can be a lot of noise.

  • Maisie is a wonderful host. She was prompt in responses when I had questions and very accommodating. The place is in a perfect location and the room is very comfortable. We definitely took advantage of the jacuzzi tub. Lyft seemed to be a bit cheaper than uber. We highly recommend staying here!

    Rose2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Maise’s place is in the perfect location to access downtown Santa Cruz. Her communication was quick and she was extremely accommodating. There was some construction being done on the house, during the day, but it didn’t effect us too much as we were out and about, but good to know If you were looking for a quiet space during the day. The bathroom is lovely, no doors to close for a private shower or bath - if that is needed for you, didn’t bother us. Maisie is truly an excellent host. Loved the space and location -I can’t wait to come back!!

    Carissa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was a clean, comfortable and convenient place to stay. Maisie always answered our questions quickly. The place is right across from the old SC Mission Park. We went to visit our kid at UCSC, about 5 min away. The main shopping and restaurant street is down some stairs and a block away. Parking was included. I would stay again.

  • Maisie's place is spacious and stylish in a quiet neighborhood just a short stroll from central Santa Cruz. Panoramic ocean views, walk to downtown Capitola, or New Brighton State Beach. Close to shopping, entertainment, transit, and freeways.
Well appointed two bedroom condo end unit on top floor of three story building. One assigned carport parking space, guest parking available on site and plenty of street parking, Elevator, pool, sauna, laundry, guest room available to rent from HOA for guests. Walk to shopping, dining, grocery. Close to area attractions and colleges
New Brighton State Beach is an easy walk from the condo, you can walk the beach to historic cement ship. Downtown Capitola is less than a mile walk with great restaurants; Sotola and Shadow Brook are two of our favorites. Mr. Toot's coffee is the original coffee house of Capitola. You can grab a nice breakfast at the Avenue Cafe or Gayle's Bakery.
  • The unit is super nice and confortable, very close to capitola Wharf and Main streets. I was working at UCSC during my stay and capitola is just between 15-30 minutes drive to university and Santa Cruz. You can also take the metro bus, it takes around an hour. Stephanie left us instructions and recomendations and she is always available to answer questions. The beds are very confortable, and the kitchen very well equiped. The unit is very close (5 min walk) to New Brightons state park and beach. 100% recommended!!

It was also an easy walk right across the street down to New Brighton State Beach, which is beautiful. It was a wonderful month.

A simple and cozy abode for couple's getaway, outdoor enthusiasts, or solo travelers. Tucked away in a residential cul-de-sac with easy access to the harbor and local beaches via 2 complimentary beach cruisers. Completed with a semi-outdoor restroom and hammock, the Savasana Studio is a great alternative for a relaxing and cost-effective way to stay in Santa Cruz!
The space BOHO 10'x12' studio with expansive deck to soak up the sun, nap or read a book in the hammock with a beer/wine in hand. The cozy and comfortable loft bed will certainly make you feel rejuvenated for more adventures! The studio has it's own private entrance and rests behind the main house in a residential cul-de-sac. Savasana studio is perfect throughout Spring, Summer and Fall, however, due to the outdoor-focused setting, bathroom trips during cold Winter nights are not for the faint of heart. Bring warm jammies! Nestled in Live Oak, the studio is off the beaten path but is easily accessible to all Santa Cruz has to offer. An easy ride with the complimentary beach cruisers to Sunny Cove beach, Yacht Harbor, Sunday Farmer's Market, and many local cafe and restaurants! Plenty of street parking and privacy. The studio has a fridge, a kettle and other basics to make coffee and tea, however it is not set up for cooking. We suggest trying out many amazing places near by!
Amazing to be close to beach! Santa Cruz weather is usually cooler til noon. Always bring your sweater :) The neighborhood is tucked away in a quite corner of Live Oak but beach, harbor, and trails are a walk away. Nice walks from Savasana.... One is Schwan Lake | Santa Cruz http://hilltromper.com/article/schwan-lake-park Go to end of El Dorado (right out of Omar Court) cross tracks and your there. On one side of these trails you are able to look out across lagoon to ocean. It's less than 5 min walk. Another is Arana Gulch | City of Santa Cruz http://www.cityofsantacruz.com/government/city-departments/planning-and-community-development/area-plans-planning-documents-projects/arana-gulch-coastal-development-permit-applicati-1776 Go left out Omar Court onto El Dorado. Left on Brommer. Through stop sign and follow sidewake straight in. You can also go left and have access to harbor before crossing or left after crossing bridge as well to be on other side of harbor. The beach of course. https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=547 Twin Lakes is closest. About a half hour walk. This beach is nice because the are food places, bathrooms, the harbor all right there. The Crows Nest restaurant there also has live music and comedy on certain nights.
  • Incredible little paradise

  • If you’re thinking about booking this, PULL THE TRIGGER. I could not believe how clean everything was, and the location was fantastic. Only a couple things to consider: The loft bed is very small and very close to the ceiling so if you are a tall person this could be cumbersome for you. The bathroom is AMAZING but it is detached from the studio. It’s semi-outside but has jungle vibes that made it my favorite part of my stay. Something about being able to look up at the stars during a hot shower is just incredible. This bnb is very small. I was traveling alone and it was perfect for me, but I could see where it could get cramped if more than one person was staying there for more than a night or two. The Lyft is $9-12 to get into town but you could honestly ride one of the bikes they offer if you wanted. I didn’t want to leave! Everything was so peaceful and the perfect workspace to relax in for my weekend getaway.

  • Everything was amazing. So many great little attentions. A comfy nest well located and comfortable. Michelle was very responsive! Don’t be scared of the outdoor bathroom, it was really nice to be in contact with elements and everything is very comfortable... the shower is really hot, there are spongy mats on the floor. Such a great vibe in this place! Thank you !

  • Michelle’s place was amazing! So cute, cozy, and relaxing! We loved the set up of the space, and all the little things in it to make it the perfect place for our trip. Don’t be sacred about the outdoor bathroom, it’s super close to the room and it’s very relaxing and cozy. We loved the hammock on the back patio! Also Michelle was so sweet and accommodating for us, we will definitely stay there again next time we come to Santa Cruz! :)

  • If you are looking to stay in Santa Cruz I highly recommend Ben’s place.

  • I am going to repeat what other commenters have already said. Communications with Ben were easy and he responds quickly. 👍 Something that the map does not make apparent is that the location is near ... pretty much everything. From the highway to the waterfront, supermarkets, etc. Another plus is that because the street is kind-of a dead-end there is not much traffic and the neighbors are quite friendly. The lemon trees, rose bushes, lavender bush and other plants in the front yard only add to the pluses. Inside we walked into a super-clean, spacious , looking-like-new, bathed in the sun 2-bedroom apartment that had everything necessary for our stay. Great layout and great amenities (including the heated fan in the bathroom 😊). Thank Ben -- A.

  • Ben's lovely home is a terrific choice in beautiful Santa Cruz! The house is very well laid out, extremely clean and well equipped with all the kitchen essentials, quality linens, and towels, washer/dryer, Netflix TV, games, etc. Ben himself is a truly excellent host and a very quick responder. Would highly recommend!

  • We had a great stay at Ben's place. It is a spacious and a bright apartment with well equipped kitchen and supplies. The place it was spotless when we arrived. We felt there like at home. In addition Ben not only communicated well and promptly , but also reacted quickly to my question about live TV, by installing software allowing for watching live TV news.
