  • Stephanie and Wendell are a true God send. Our family has stayed here before for a funeral and unfortunately had another to attend in just a couple months. Once again Stephanie and Wendell were amazing and went out of their way to help our family with booking last minute, checking on us, and even leaving a thoughtful card and fruit basket with their condolences. Hands down the best AirBNB hosts I've ever met.

    Rachel2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Georgia's Place and our hosts Wendell & Stephanie were exceptional. Our family was unfortunately in town for a funeral, but Wendell & Stephanie were exceedingly compassionate, caring, and helpful during this hard time. As far as the home goes, it was very clean, beautiful, and much larger than the photos made the home seem. It was more than enough space for the 6 of us and much more cost effective than getting 3 hotel rooms for a week. We had plenty of kitchen supplies to make our own meals and the den/projector room was a nice space for us to spend time together in the evening. The next time we visit family in Oakdale, we'll definitely keep Georgia's place in mind.

The place was so clean, and we appreciated all of the unique touches throughout the home, from the personalized sign over the fridge to the travel amenities available for us. • Jamie was very nice over text. The place was very nice & clean. You can tell she puts lots of effort into making the house comfortable and upkept for her guest! There was plenty of room for all our stuff considered it’s a tiny house. The check in and check out went smoothly and the directions for everything was very clear with no confusion at all!! Overall it’s a very nice place and I highly recommend staying here.

The details and historical articles about the town and the families was interesting. Her home is very spacious, clean and well stocked. This will be my destination when visiting Eunice

  • My wife, son, and I stayed at sondras place when we visited the college. It was a great home base. It was clean and sondra had lots of little extra touches to make it feel like home

    Shawn2020-03-16T00:00:00Z

  • Our son plays baseball for a Michigan team and they were traveling to Eunice to play LSU-E over a few days. So we booked the Stout House ...just two miles from the baseball field. We loved everything about this place. We loved the interior of the home, all the thoughtful touches, TV in the evening and incredibly comfy beds! We enjoyed walking the neighborhood, cooking and eating breakfast, coffee on the porch and enjoying local cuisine. Sondras place is incredibly clean with the feeling of a vintage flair. If we are ever back to Eunice this will be the first place I’ll look and cross my fingers it is available. Besides seeing our son it was the highlight of our stay!

  • This is a GREAT place to stay! Monica and Mangus are exactly what southern hospitality is all about. Sit out and look at the stars in her granny shed behind the main house while surrounded by Rocky(sweet dog) Buddy(squirrel!), Daniel(sweet cat), Sophia(beautiful Yorkie). Plus, goats, ducks, chickens, roosters, rabbits, ponies and a pot bellied pig! Convenient to many things, but definitely a country getaway that will make you love Louisiana even more Great for getaways or long term work. I have traveled extensively, and this was one of the most memorable. SEE FOR YOURSELF!!

  • Mama Sue’s guest house is one of the best AirBnbs I’ve stayed in. It’s super cosy and totally unique - we only stopped over for one night and enjoyed our stay thoroughly. The place has everything you’d need, and the use of space is spot on - even though it’s small, it feels spacious. I couldn’t recommend it more!

    Mireille2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cool little place, only a 1 minute walk from the main street in Grand Coteau. Short drive to neighboring towns of Sunset and and Arnaudville.. We loved Chickorys (great people, delicious breakfasts and coffee) and the Kitchen Store (olive oil and balsamic).. Over in Arnaudville, Little Big Cup was a cool spot to sit on the Bayou. And the beer at LA 31 is solid; the pizza spectacular- as good as almost anything In philly or new york .. Host was very communicative. And the place has everything you could need for a short stay. (We were a couple and a 2 month old; stayed 3 nights) Definitely recommended. Great value

  • It’s absolutely no wonder that Ramona is a Super Host... there was true feel of genuine hospitality... this place was nothing short of spectacular, the apartment was so perfect, all the rooms were large and spacious, and just full of little touches and amenities that made you feel like you were both at home, and in a 5 star resort. And if you like to get out and in the town where everyone is so nice, then this is definitely a place to try! We had Cecil’s Saturday morning and Downtown Grounds Sunday for brunch! Simply perfect

    Amanda2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ramona obviously cares about her guests. Her house is modern, comfy, and very clean. Plenty of towels and kitchen amenities. There were games, coffee, cream, and washer/dryer with detergent. She knew we were bringing two kids so she left a little treat in the freezer for them. If we return to DeRidder, this is where we will stay.

Set on 2 acres of land with native trees and plants, staying with us is an authentic country experience. Sweet potato capital of the world, Sunset, Louisiana is a convenient hub to explore the Acadiana region or relax on our serene property.
The room is similar to a private, second story apartment, but without a full kitchen. It has its own exterior entrance (PLEASE MIND YOUR HEAD ON THE TREE BRANCHES), bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, plates and utensils. It should be noted that the single bed is a trundle bed and is low to the ground. The room receives a lot of shade from the big live oak tree that grows over it, under which you can swing in the hammock, sit on the front porch or in the garden. There is a small collection of vinyls featuring some classic Zydeco, Cajun and New Orleans musicians, as well as a few books for your pleasure. The room has a rustic/funky/southwest feel and is full of homemade or refurbished furniture. Dave is a master carpenter, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Our property is best suited for guests seeking the peace of the countryside, and a unique look at small town Louisiana life. It is also a convenient hub for exploring Acadiana: Lafayette is 20 minutes away, Mamou and Fred's Lounge is 30, Bayou Teche Brewery is 10, Opelousas is 7, historic Gran Coteau is 5, and of course Sunset is only a bike ride or short walk down the road. We have lived here our whole lives and can recommend interesting places to visit, where to eat, canoe at state parks, take scenic drives, see music (or an alligator!) and more.
As mentioned earlier, Sunset is a small town, but it is growing each year. We have a thriving arts and antique scene with shops like Bayou Some Stuff, Funky Flea and Remember When. There are a few restaurants: the very popular Cafe Josephine, the staple Little Mexico, Cajun Rizz for boiled crawfish and more and the Donut Palace. Just outside the "center" and you can visit the local grocery market or go to Subway. You can walk or ride a bike to Grand Coteau (3 miles), which is a charming town with old cajun houses, beautiful oak alleys, a cafe and a historic girls school, Sacred Heart Academy. Just a little farther and you can grab a drink or watch music at the Bike Barn, grab some boudin at Don's, or head to famous Prejean's for a seafood platter. A little further out, in Arnaudville is the Bayou Teche brewery with award winning micro-brews,tours and tastings
  • The room is stylishly appointed and very cozy. Nice view of the landscape from the porch. David and his wife gave great tips on things to see and do in the area. We might not have gone to the Vermilionville Living History museum if he had not recommended it. We spent the better part of a day there. Also appreciated the breakfast he provided: freshly baked nut breads and muffins with fruit juice. Highly recommend this place. There's even more to see and do in the area than we thought.

    Ethan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My second time staying in the tree room was even better than the first! This is a wonderful place to stay! Sweet hosts, great muffins and a super cozy room with all the amenities you could want!

  • The Tree Room is extremely comfy and cozy! Everything you need for a short stay. David was extremely nice and helpful. They put out a bed for our dog to use, left us breakfast for the next morning, and even suggested local attractions and restaurants for us to visit! We chose to eat at Prejean’s and it did not disappoint. If you are looking to do anything in Grand Cateau, Carencro, or Lafayette, this is an amazing place to stay! And the outdoor space you have access to is absolutely beautiful as well! We plan to stay again next time we visit Sunset!

    Maci2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second time at David and Suzannes place. I was their first Air BNB guest in 2016 and loved it. This time, the tree house was even better. So pretty. I love the grounds, their warm and friendly hospitality. I'll be back. Highly recommended.

And, of course, there is plenty of that Way Down Yonder, Yeah You Right, Sho' 'Nuf, turn-out-the-lights-and-call-the-doctor-not-the-law kinda FUN to be had by all. Stonewood is a modest agricultural plantation built in the late 1800's by one of two brothers who founded a local hospital. It was originally over 200 acres of agricultural land. Maison Stonewood was separated on 5 acres and the agricultural property was sold - but the 200 acres of agricultural land is still part of a working farm with vegetable production and cattle. All the original farm land surrounds Stonewood, protecting the rural atmosphere. The house, made of architectural stone, is set way back off the small country highway, so it is very quiet. We live in an area that is highly populated by artists and we love having many artists as neighbors. Also, a big plus - The Whirlybird - described in the June 2011 Issue of Southern Living Magazine - is just across the garden on the property. Valerie Luesse says, "Jim decided he didn't have the right gathering space for his circle of music-loving friends, so he bought an old Texaco distribution center & moved it to a secret location." We are in the countryside of historic St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. We are the perfect outpost - a cultural crossroad - between Austin/Houston/Dallas and New Orleans. Stonewood and The Whirlybird compound is set way back off a small country highway and surrounded by farmland, so it is often very quiet - except for the birds, the occasional cow bellow, farm equipment - or when The Honky Tonk is in full tilt mode. The countryside we live in is highly populated by artists and we love that we have many artists as neighbors. We have many artists come up from New Orleans to get away and experience rural Acadiana and its inspiring creative energy.

  • Jim and Christy have a unique place to experience. They are friendly and knowledgeable. They recommended a great restaurant about 4miles from the folk art barn (Josephine's in Sunset) that was fantastic (great food and service). We went there twice. Lots to do in the area and a peaceful place to come back to.

  • Amazing place, we loved it!

    Didier2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The place is great and full of great little details that you could spend hours just finding. It’s also bigger than it looks, and the little town down the road is cute and has some nice shops. It’s like the land before walmart.

  • Peaceful, full of character, art, sweetness and warmth. Gem of gems.

  • A truly peaceful and artistically inspiring environment. Open floor plan, high ceilings and all the amenities necessary for our 3 day get-a-way. Jim and Christy were great hosts. Excellent communication and willingness to assist if needed, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Brad2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jim & Christy's Folk Art Barn is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a peaceful and charming getaway. You leave feeling inspired and more appreciative of the importance of history and craftsmanship. If you are looking for an authentically peaceful and charming place to relax and pass a good time, that is "not-your-ordinary" Airbnb, but uniquely designed with crafted love, then The Folk Art Barn is perfect. I can't wait to go back this fall with my friends to make more memories 💝

    Sheila2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Chistys place was truly a work of art and love. We loved the uniqueness of the barn and the honky tonk. The honky tonk had items from our hometown and our friends hometown. It makes a small world even smaller. Plus Christy had traveled and spent time in our neck of the woods. The loft was very clean and beds were comfortable. When the coffee pot stopped working Jim saved the day by bringing us coffee. They were great host.

    Nancy2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, wonderful stay!! Jim & Christy were awesome. Their place is absolutely beautiful. Loved the Folk Art Barn! I’ve never seen anything like it. The atmosphere was so much fun. Can’t wait to go back!

  • The Acadiana Little Lodge was the perfect port in the storm! Literally & figuratively! We're traveling cross country and prefer to stay at off the beaten path places, and Knobhill was perfect for us. The rustic, cozy, roomy cabins are surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. So peaceful & filled with natural beauty. Anthony, the host, was so helpful and accommodating! We needed to extend our stay to wait out severe weather that developed along our next day route. Anthony didn't hesitate to help us out and was able to accommodate us on short notice. For that we are so very grateful! Thank you Anthony! If we find ourself near Ville Platte, we would absolutely stay again!

  • Agnes' home is a wonderfully inviting space that you will love. There is plenty of space to make yourself at home in your guest accommodations. The bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever experienced in an AirBnB. She provides coffee and a mini-fridge with soda and water and access to her kitchen, if needed. If you pick Agnes' place you won't regret it!

  • We were in DeRidder for a wedding and were pleasantly surprised by “No Bad Days”. The home is huge with lots of community space for sitting, playing games, chatting and being social. The location on the lake is awesome with fun sunrise views. We didn’t have a chance to try the paddle boat but that would be fun for sure. This home is a real treasure and we are so grateful to this family for sharing their space!

    Jessie2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Business trip with two new hires being trained and we were very pleased with this house. Beautiful, peaceful location with comfortable beds and all the comforts of home. It’s close enough to town if you need something, but far enough away that you feel like you are getting away from it all. The fire pit and grill came in handy as we decided to eat in vs. going out to dinner our last night. Would rather stay here than a local hotel! Everything from check in to check out was fantastic!

    Garrett2019-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • “No bad days” definitely lived up to its name! Gorgeous house away from it all which is just how we wanted to end 2018!

  • This place is great! Right on Bundick Lake with access to the boats. The grounds are beautifully maintained and in the winter you have access to fresh fruit growing on the property. Every room is well appointed with all the necessities and amenities needed for your stay. This was our second stay and we are already looking forward to our return there.

    Alan2018-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the property is right on the lake, with it's own boat house and pier! Catching fish seemed to be pretty easy and going out on the lake with the boat was another fun adventure/time! The kitchen is fully stocked with lots of different pots, pans, etc. Sports peeps were able to view games on the television; movie buffs see some cool flicks; and those internet saavy folks could even get their social media on as well! Our lengthy stay was very pleasant and enjoyable :-) Absolutely recommended.

This cabin emulates a traditional southwest Louisiana home except the staircase is on the interior. Looks old from outside and feels cozy and clean on inside.
Open loft upstairs includes a twin at one end and a queen at the other with a screened seating area in between for a little bit of privacy. There is a 1st floor lounge, dining area, kitchen, and bath. There is no tv, so bring your laptop if you want to watch movies or listen to music. My favorite thing is the view from the loft with the sun coming through the trees, which are everywhere, and the sounds of the birds in the morning. This view is especially mysterious when it's raining. There is a volunteer fire station across the street. It is mostly inactive. There is a busy road out front, which can be loud when hanging out on the porch.
This cabin sits in the middle of the Frozard Cultural Arts District as part of the Corridor des Arts. It was built to emulate the traditional Cajun home. From the road you see the front porch and fully glazed french doors through a row of trees. The lower level includes kitchen with stove, microwave and fridge, bath, dining, and lounge. A staircase leads to the sleeping loft with windows overlooking the wooded area between the cabin and Bayou Bourbeaux. There is a twin bed at one end of the loft and a queen bed at the other end with seating & screen in between for a little privacy. The cabin does not include a tv. Whether you are attending Festival International and want to escape Lafayette at the end of a long day of fantastic music, enjoying the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival, music at the Bayou Teche Brewery, or spending time at NuNus Culutural Arts Collective and want easy access from a nearby home base, Bayou Bungalow is a great option. For biking, there are lots of paved back roads passing under 200 year old sprawling Live Oak trees past the historic Frozard Plantation home and Frank A. Olivier home . You can ride as far as: Arnaudville's Nunus: Tom's Fiddle Shop; Guidry's Produce; and Noa Zhivago's La Poste for shopping and cultural events. Or for about a 25 minute drive, you get out of Lafayette after the International Festival, Festivals Acadiens et Creoles, Word Crawl, Downtown Alive, Art Walk, ACA, the Science Museum, the Children's Museum, etc. If you are in town for Balfa Music Camp, Bayou Bungalow sits in the center between Chico State Part, Lafayette, and Breaux Bridge so you can reach all the highlights. Of course there is more, so stay as long as you like or ask about buying your own place here and we will help you with that, too!!
  • First time staying at an Airbnb and Peg did not disappoint. Outstanding host and a beautiful cabin. Would recommend if you want a quick getaway. Peg also had list of things for us to do around the area. Overall outstanding experience.

  • My husband and I had a great time here! We loved taking the bikes out for a ride around town. Peg was very helpful and hospitable. Lovely backyard and birds chirping in the morning. We had the cabin to ourselves, and it felt very secluded. Would stay here again.

Locals who show their lives and make you a part of it. One of those never to forget travel experiences. Definitely go and get a deep dive Louisiana experience!" "We like to think Airbnb was created for these kind of accommodations. The location is wonderful but the best part is the hosts. Jim and Christy are amazing people who provide their wary travelers with everything they could hope for. We can advise you this: Go! You will forever remember the experience!" "Jim and Christy are absolute gems. As hosts, they do everything you can ask for and more - they provide you with the true South Louisiana experience. Regardless of if you're staying in the house, the barn, or the Whirlybird, you're in for a treat." "Wonderful outpost to explore the best of Cajun land, or simply rest at home and take in peace and quiet in an inspired and thoughtfully created residence." "The house and the grounds are magical but the real joy for me was the Whirlybird barn where I was able to write music all day and enjoy the many things it has to offer." "Jim and Christy are at the core of the local community and are very generous in sharing their time and experiences. You really couldn't hope for better hosts!"
We are in the countryside of historic St. Landry Parish, just 20 minutes outside of Lafayette, LA “the happiest city in America”. We are the perfect outpost - a cultural crossroad between Texas and New Orleans – and we have many artists come up from New Orleans to get away and experience rural Acadiana and its inspiring creative energy. Stonewood is a modest agricultural plantation built in the late 1800's by one of two brothers who founded a local hospital. It was originally over 200 acres and, while we only own 5 of those acres, all of the original farm land still surrounds Stonewood and is part of a working farm with vegetable production and cattle. The house and outbuildings are set way back off the small country highway, so it is very quiet. On special occasions, our honkytonk “The Whirlybird” - described in the June 2011 Issue of Southern Living Magazine - is in full tilt party mode and our guests are invited to join in the fun. Valerie Luesse says, "Jim decided he didn't have the right gathering space for his circle of music-loving friends, so he bought an old Texaco distribution center & moved it to a secret location."
  • Fun to stay in a bar for the night!

  • This is the most delightfully quirky Airbnb experience we’ve ever had! We absolutely loved the unique style in this one-of-a-kind honky tonk. We also enjoyed seeing our hosts at the Saturday morning Cajun jam in Savoy. The nearby town of Sunset is charming too. We highly recommend the location and the hosts!!

  • The Whirlybird Honky Tonk is a delight for the eyes, heart, soul and my weary Zydeco dancing feet. I love the Whirlybird, Jim and of course Christy! My every need was thoughtfully pre-considered and waiting for me, This was my third stay at the Whirlybird within one month. Actions really do speak louder than words! The Honky tonk is also a fabulous museum filled with treasures that tickle and make you smile. Each stay was a new adventure, as I discovered even more musical artifacts showcasing the history, humor, culture and joy of Acadiana. Thank you Jim and Christy. P.S. Be sure to check out the Whirlybird’s Guide to local attractions from dance halls, 3 famous meat shops to day trips/explorations recommendations. I devoured it.

  • Words can’t begin to describe this trip for us. Absolutely wonderful staff. I have never stayed on a property where the owners and staff were so generous and courteous. Communication was perfect from beginning to end. The property is well kept and just beautiful. Our commute was 45 to 50 min to work and about the same time back and we didn’t mind it at all. It was refreshing to come “home” everyday. I’ve read plenty of reviews of people saying their host was the best host. You’d have to book a few nights here to really appreciate a great host. You never get to experience charm and serenity. Not on a work trip working nights. Every day pulling up to the property was just pleasant. We enjoyed the environment. We enjoyed the scenery. We enjoyed the relaxation. Tony, you were wonderful from the first day until the last day and me and the guys pray that we can come back and see you all again. I fished everyday after work. We were worry free because of how amazing the staff was. Thank you for being so great during our work trip. For everyone that considers this property, it’s beautiful. There are beautiful animals on the property. It’s quiet. Safe. Plenty of parking. Fire pits. Big fully stocked pond. It’s just great. We were more than happy with everything and look forward to booking again as soon as we can. Thank you Tony, Ashley and all the staff that accommodated our busy work trip to give us a relaxing home away from homes. Y’all were amazing.

Lulu's Cottage Acadian is in the heartland of Cajun & Zydeco country. There's a great view from the screened-in porch of the adjacent rice fields. The decor inside is spot on. And as one guest says, "It's the quintessential Cajun cottage". Lulu's has three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, two full bathrooms, a porch, a private parking area, a large yard, and beautiful views. The cottage is equipped with Smart TV & WI-FI and all accessories to cook, relax and enjoy the Cajun countryside.
Historic St Landry Parish offers food ≈ dancing ≈ biking ≈ hiking ≈ birding ≈ jam sessions ≈ antiquing ≈ cultural events ≈ weddings ≈ crawfish boils ≈ and much more. Lulu's Cottage is in the heart of all! Located along the prairie north of Highway 190, Lulu's sets along the Zydeco-Cajun Prairie Byway. - - - - - Off-Highway 190, the bayous and swamps give way to grasslands, prairies and (yes!) dancing cowboys. The small towns of Opelousas, Eunice and Mamou are a hotbed of Cajun and Zydeco music with museums, radio shows and venues such as the Liberty Theater, dedicated to this rich cultural gumbo. Looking for a driving tour that sounds as good as it looks? Lulu's Cottage Acadian is right on the trail! - - - - - - - - The Zydeco Cajun Prairie Byway pays tribute to the music of south Louisiana, touching many iconic music spots while ambling through serene, rolling prairies. You’ll pass crawfish farms, sweet potato fields, and pastures where beef cattle and saddle horses graze. A ride along this byway also illustrates why Louisiana is well-known for its many festivals. The towns along the route hold celebrations to honor everything from cotton to cracklins. The byway consists of three loops and a spur, so visitors have their choice of routes. Here’s a sample of what you’ll find: - - - - - - - - Mamou to Ville Platte Mamou calls itself the “Cajun Music Capital of the World” and holds a music festival each August. Don’t miss Fred’s Lounge, where Cajun music and dancing are a Saturday morning ritual. In nearby Pine Prairie, stop at Guillory’s Grocery and Specialty Meats to load up on cracklins and locally made sausages. This loop ends in Ville Platte, home to the 6,400-acre Chicot State Park, with its playground, swimming pool, fishing and boating facilities, and the Louisiana State Arboretum. Here you’ll find hundreds of indigenous plants, from sycamores to orchids, along with white-tailed deer, wild turkey and many types of birds. - - - - - - - - Eunice to Church Point This loop begins in Eunice, home to the Cajun French Music Hall of Fame and Museum. At Liberty Theater, a 1924 vaudeville house, the radio, and television musical program “Rendezvous des Cajuns” is broadcast live. Other spots to see include the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, part of the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve. As you move into one of Louisiana’s prime rice-growing areas, your next stop is Crowley, home to the Historic Rice Theatre and Rice Interpretive Center, an auto museum and the J.D. Miller Music Museum. The loop ends in Church Point, where you can see the Vieux Presbytere (Old Rectory), which dates to 1887. - - - - - - - - Washington to Opelousas Few towns contain as many historic structures as Washington, where 80 percent of the town’s buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. For most of the 19th century, Washington was the largest inland port between New Orleans and St. Louis. Buildings like the Steamboat Warehouse (now a restaurant) recall the town’s past prominence. Another beautiful stop along this loop is Grand Coteau, founded in 1776 and known for its live oak alleys and the historic Academy of the Sacred Heart. This loop ends in Opelousas, the birthplace of musician Clifton Chenier and considered by many to be the home of zydeco. Locals like to eat at the Palace Café, a simple eatery in business since 1927. Try the chicken-fried steak or anything crawfish. The town’s Creole Heritage Folklife Center illustrates the story of the region’s African-American community. - - - - - - - - Lulu's Cottage Acadian situated in a great area between Austin/Houston/Dallas and New Orleans. Great place to start your exploration....
Located in the heart of Cajun and Zydeco country just a quarter-mile from The Savoy Music Center and Liberty Theater in Eunice. Quiet, peaceful and picturesque setting with a crawfish pond and acres of farmland in view. Mamou, Opelousas and Church Point are close neighbors and the dance halls of Lafayette and Breaux Bridge are within a 40 min drive. (see the guidebook more info)
  • This house was so neat to visit. It’s an older house, but the hardwoods look original, the claw bathtub was nice, and I wish we had more time to sit and enjoy the screened porch! I think the beds were more comfortable than most of the houses I’ve stayed in. Thanks for the stay!

  • Charming cottage in the heart of the rice fields. Lulu's Cottage by its location, has allowed us easy access to nearby villages that are full of places and cultural activities. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with essentials and we could cook meals. We also had a good time enjoying the tranquility of the countryside, on the covered gallery. We fell in love with the Cajun country and hope to return to Lulu's Cottage!

  • A country home with a lot of culture and feel for this part of the country. It was immaculate. The shower exceeded my expectations for a country home!!! The hot water felt wonderful at a time where the weather was a bit chilly the heaters kept the place warm. The linens and bedding were soft and very comfortable. We'll never forget the experience esp the visit from a green lizard who was caught and released to the outside!!! Mark is an excellent host!!!.

  • We loved our stay at Lulu's cottage. As someone who grew up in the area, this is the quintessential Cajun cottage. There is a great view off the screened in porch of the adjacent rice fields. The decor inside is spot on for the area. It also had a lovely shaded yard to relax in.

  • If you are looking to experience Cajun culture then Lulu’s Cottage is a must! This is not merely a place to stay, it’s a destination! Great screened in back porch perfect for reconnecting. Easy to get to, full of old world charm, it was as if we were transported back in time. My husband and I had a nostalgic weekend that left us relaxed and refreshed. Super close to everything Cajun. Looking forward to coming back!!

Take a stroll down the quiet dead end street where we raised our kids. Play with the kids on the small 2 hole miniature golf course in the yard or shoot hoops on the basketball goal while you swing in a shaded hammock. • A very stylish older home. Built in 1911, I think. Hardwood floors throughout and an interesting layout, as all rooms are connected. There are two bedrooms on the first floor. One of them has two twin beds and a futon. There is a bathroom attached. The tub is tall, so a bit of a challenge to climb into, but the shower has great water pressure. The second bedroom has a king-size bed and a large bathroom. The shower is fancy, but water pressure is low. The stairs to the second floor are a doozy. Enough to keep most of the older members of our party downstairs. There is a queen-size bed up there as well as a futon. Also a small bathroom with a tub. A cute little nook for the younger folks. The living room has plenty of comfy furniture for visiting and a nice big TV. Also a spacious kitchen and nice dining room. We loved that the house felt historic and modern at the same time. We would love to stay again for our little family get-together.

  • My stay at Ms. Jackie's lasted for seven months while I was working in Louisiana. She is one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. From the time I arrived until I left she was a great host. There were a couple of times that storms in the area had flooded the roads and made it impossible to get out. She was so kind and considerate and made sure that I had meals to eat. You can't ask for a finer Christian lady than Ms. Jackie.

  • I had a wonderful stay, Miss Jackie is a warm and thoughtful host. She is quick to respond and friendly, yet respectful of your privacy. The rooms are comfortable and sparkling clean. If you want to experience true southern hospitality, then I recommend staying here!

    Noah2018-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • It is a wonderful suite, very large. If you are staying long term Ms Jackie does house cleaning once a week. Everyone has said that it is in the country and they weren't lying. Pretty far off the beaten path. My cell service didn't work out there for about 98% of the time. But Ms Jackie is the cutest sweetest little thing. You have your privacy but she is very friendly and accommodating.

  • Lovely Host, beautiful house, great quiet place to relax and enjoy the nature.

    Eddy2018-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • The moment we pulled into the driveway, Jackie was there to greet us. Check in was easy and communication was great! Very quiet place.

    Adrian2018-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jackie was a great host. Her residence is serene and exactly as presented. She and her daughter-in-law, Susan, were extremely easy to communicate with as I needed to check in earlier than expected. They were accommodating to my schedule and my stay was private and cozy.

    Sherry2017-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • First of all, the bed is NOT really on the ceiling. Second, REALLY great place if you like quiet, and being out in the country. The room is very clean, there's covered parking, plenty of hot water, nice bathroom, handsomely furnished, and by the way, its quiet.

Bellevue Manor offers short term rentals, but we also offer the house as an Event Rental for parties and special events (priced separately). We work with any custome package deal pricing. The home was built in 1874 by Professor Rudolf Adelbert Mayer, a noted musician & pupil of composer Richard Wagner. The home has 141 years of history in the heart of Cajun culture. The house can accommodate 10 people comfortably. It has 5 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms nestled on nearly 4 acres.
Bellevue Manor predominately offers short term rentals, BUT we offer discounted monthly or long term rentals or leasing (inquire within). The home is 141 years old furnished with original rare New Orleans antiques. I've personally owned the home since 2006, my extended family lived here since 1874. It is located on nearly 3.7 acres of land with several miniature horses and small barn on the property. The home has 12 foot ceilings, a little over 3,000 square ft. The house has 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a library/study, dining room and kitchen. The house sleeps 10 people comfortably, 12 if you choose to use our queen size air mattress per request. The DOWNSTAIRS has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, study/library, living room, dining room and kitchen. The UPSTAIRS has 3 bedrooms, an open foyer sitting/daybed area in the that doubles for two more sleeping guests and upstairs has one full bath/shower. Outside has a gas BBQ and 900 sq.-ft. covered patio area. Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is less than 5 minutes away. The house works out great for folks who don't want to rent several hotel rooms and prefer the option to have family and friends under one roof, like to cook or BBQ with family or friends privately. I've hosted guests who have come to Opelousas for local weddings, bridal groups who need a space to get ready or honeymoon suite, overseas tourists, private parities or used venue rental (custom priced separately). The home has horses on the property miniature ponies on the property, but at times removed for breeding. The west side of the property that is fenced can support ample parking for large events (about 2 acres). If needed a private local chef can be recommended to cater to any family, couple or group. The photos describe which bedrooms are upstairs and downstairs. If you wish to learn more on the history of Bellevue Manor & it's builder you can copy the link below and read the full bio on the builder: Rudolph Adelbert Sebastian Mayer or internet search his name. He was an accomplished composer, musician, founder of one of the first all woman's brass ensemble in the South, inventor of one of the first pre-civil war breech-loading rifles and inventor of one the first forms of color photography, among other things. Seasonal and weekend rates vary. We work with any custome package deal pricing for special events, so try us. SPECIAL EVENTS: We cater to smaller events, but flexible to meet your needs. The home is ideal for photo shoots, special events, private parties, corporate events and wedding receptions are separate pricing and considered a VENUE RENTAL. WEDDINGS, RECEPTIONS, VOW RENEWALS, PRIVATE/CORPORATE PARTYS, WORK EVENTS ARE CONSIDERED A "SPECIAL EVENT" therefore the rate is the VENUE RENTAL and approved per inquiry ONLY since the price needs to be adjusted on my calendar prior to booking. The VENUE rental rate is $1,800 for the day of the event, which INCLUDES the overnight accommodations for 10-12 only. We usually require a 2-night minimum Any additional nights needed before of after the special event are the rate for the additional night. For SPECIAL EVENTS/RECEPTIONS we welcome the option to bring in your own caterer and beverages. Decorating, table rentals, outdoor lighting, candles, etc. optional. If you need recommendations, please inquire. EXCEPTIONS: If a bride has already chosen a wedding venue or reception venue elsewhere, BUT the bridal party needs a place for herself and her bridesmaids to get ready and take some photos, we treat this as a standard nightly rental rate for that date, NOT a special event rate, but a TWO-night minimum still applies, but that includes the honeymoon suite and allows a great place to get the bridal party ready and take photos. Family and/or friend gatherings of 20 and under are the regular rate and NOT considered Special Event. Please inquire via email if you have questions. Keep in mind, Airbnb.com does no show your phone numbers or personal email address on booking inquiries, so unfortunately initial inquiries have to me discussed via email. Our base rate is $250-$350 per night, but subject to change depending on the time of year. Guest of 6 or less are the base price. Some seasonal rates MAY apply after 6 guests, which can be $50 per person per night, but depending on the occasion we may wave the additional person rate. I promise you it's still cheaper than multiple hotel rooms, so please understand why this is so.
The home is centrally located to restaurants and Interstate. Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is less than 5 minutes away. Old and historic neighborhood in the heart of the historic district. It is quiet and safe as I have personally lived here with my own family and children for many years. The historic district is aiming for revitalization, which we are part of. I know most of my neighbors and is been safe area for my own family for many years. Evangeline Downs Race Track & Casino is less than one mile away from the house. "Frank's" a famous local sports bar & and New Orleans style Po-boy sandwich shop is one block away and walking distance on Landry St./Oak St. for sit in or carry out. The Historic Village of Washington is 10 minutes North on 1-49 with a great family restaurant with award-winning seafood called the "The Steamboat Warehouse Restaurant". The village of Washington has loads of antiques shops open Friday-Sunday. The village has a well known restaurant called "The Steamboat Restaurant" which is house in a pre-cival war cotton warehouse (excellent food and vibe). The historic home off Bellevue House is in the historic district 3 blocks from the town square, where one can eat at "Back In Time" or "The Palace Cafe", both restaurants are on Landry St. across from the courthouse square. Vieux Village history museum is 3 blocks away at the Farmer's Market. Have fun and enjoy!

  • Jonathan is an excellent host. The house is beautiful with years of detailed history. It’s close to everything but feels like your tucked away peacefully in your own little world. Jonathon is thoughtful and customer service oriented. He went above and beyond to take care of our family on a busy wedding weekend. Cannot say enough about this beautiful place and incredible host.
