My, place, at 4 Jacaranda Close, is close to Art and crafts, , art and culture, family-friendly activities,, restaurants and dining,, great views. You’ll love my place because of Wild life and proximity to shops, wildlife activities,, the outdoors space, the people. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
This house is in a quiet area that is easily accessed by car and is not too far form the main road and bus stop. It is within easy reach of the shops and banks. The room has its own entrance and is separate from the rest of the house.
The Heights is the low, density area of Kariba town spread out on a couple of hills. It is a very quiet area with very little traffic. At the right time of the year, elephants may be seen ambling past the house in the early mornings and early evenings.
  • Very tidy place, great hostess. She is willing to help with everything. Great view of Lake Kariba from close to the place, also shops on walking distance. Town center is a bit far though, but apart from that, totally recommend this place!

  • My daughter was volunteering in the country of Malawi and when she was finished she decided to travel to Zimbabwe. Her travels sent her and friend to Tambudzayi's to rest. The hospitality was awesome. I appreciated my daughter being in a caring environment. The host prepared breakfast and dinner. They received recommendations for fishing and interesting sites to see. This was a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.

  • Guy's home was wonderful. Kariba is quite low but instead of lake water we saw Zebra, Hippos, Impala, Water buck and other game. We had Elephants and Zebra come to the back yard! The pool is right next door and very convenient. Richard was wonderful and did a fantastic job cooking. The decor is lovely and beds are very comfortable. We highly recommend this home.

  • Guy's house on the shores of Lake Kariba is an oasis of peace, quiet and tranquility, only interrupted by the occasional grunts from the nearby population of hippos. The house has been refurbished to a very high standard and is excellent for families with children. Guy was very responsive to questions and had excellent suggestions in terms of what to bring and what to do. We had a great time and will surely be back again soon.

    Joost2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Kingfisher Lodge. The place was clean and spacious and the immediate grounds were well kept. We even got visits from zebra and hippos in the garden. The surrounding area offers great views and opportunity for engagement with a range of wildlife. Our experience was one of rest in this beautiful place. Guy responded promptly to any queries and Richard was very helpful and attentive and also supplied some useful local knowledge.

  • Warthogs is a lovely place to stay. The cabines are very nice, the view to the lake is great and also you can be lucky to get some visits from a Zebra, Hippo or Buffalos. The people there are always Friendly and Helpful. And you are away from noises, so it is also a good place to relax.

    Alena2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • You are right in the middle of the game park. You will see elephants, hippos, Zebras and baboons everyday. It’s more like Glamping but living with nature at the same time. To wake up to hippos in the water which is about 7m as well and you can watch them from s safe distance. The staff are exallent. The cook and Bar man.

    Marionette2018-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wery nice lodge with friendly and helpful staff, crazy that it wasn't more people there. A great view over Kariba with its hippos and elephants makes one of the nicest scenerys I've seen so far in Zimbabwe. The food is also good and the chef is flexible and professional when it comes to customizing the menu, something that was great for me beeing a vegan. The small huts in the forest are also nice, only downside was that I got eaten alive by bugs, but that was a quick fix with some good repellent. Wifi also costs 2 USD per hour. I would highly recommend this place to anybody staying in the area.

Elephant Walk at Wild Heritage is an exclusive, self catering lodge set on the Charara peninsula. Panaramic views of Lake Kariba can be seen from the comfort of your bedroom and the two accompanying verandahs. The lodge is set in an unfenced area of the wilderness and as a result hippo, elephant and zebra are frequent visitors to be seen roaming around the complex as well as the phenomenal bird life.
The recently refurbished and extended house is looked after by a full time caretaker/cook who will be at the house in the morning and leave in the evening after the evening meal has been prepared, these times are flexible and can be communicated with John. John is extremely helpful and will cook, clean and look after you during your stay. He is also knowledgable about the area, what and where to get various items should you need them. He will have the house open and ready for you on your arrival.
Elephant Walk is situated in a National park and wild animals do roam the area. This adds to the charm of the setting, however these animals are wild and although they are accustomed to being around people and they do not pose a direct danger if not confronted, one should not approach/attempt to feed these animals. There are security guards with dogs that patrol the area at night for your security. On your arrival they will ask you to complete a security registration of vehicles etc...

The communal pool near the entrance was tested too. The two outdoor decks were super. We really enjoyed your place. It was a perfect place to celebrate our daughter’s 10th birthday. We took a little stroll to see the hippos and crocodiles basking in the sun. Great memories were made. Thank you!

  • It was a fantastic getaway. We were seeing elephants within a few hours of arriving and later in the evening saw some hippos. All the while, the baboons had been around. Everything worked, it was very hot and the air conditioners came in very handy. It was close of enough to a supermarket for resupplies yet remote enough to be watching elephants and hippos from the veranda. We will definitely be visiting again.

  • We spent five wonderful days at Baobab House. Being right on the shoreline the location could not be better to absorb the peaceful atmosphere and sounds of nature. From hippos and crocodiles in the water to a plenty bird species we did not have a dull moment. Beverley, Moses and Anna saw to our every need. Beverley is an outstanding cook and host and I would highly recommend opting for her dinners. We spent a few afternoons on their boat and they made sure we saw plenty game... always a treat from the water; as well as splendid sunsets from the boat across the water. I could go on and on but this is truely a wonderful place with fabulous people to spend a memorable holiday. Thank you Beverley and staff.

  • Beverly is an incredible host. She went out of her way to make us feel more than welcome and at home and also helped us plan all of our activities for our time in Kariba - she even arranged a boat ride for us to go out on the lake and see elephants as well as the sunset. Beverly is an incredible cook - be sure to take her up on her offer for dinner! The house is in the most amazing location with a beautiful lake view - we even got to watch the elephants graze as they were eating breakfast! Also, Beverly has an amazing library that is fun to browse! Beverly knows all of the must see locations in Kariba so be sure to ask for her advice on planning your time there!

  • This was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip to Zimbabwe. Beverley is a kind, generous and thoughtful host with a fascinating insight into the Kariba and Chiraira area. A beautiful house right by the lake, sometimes with passing elephants. Dinner was one of the most memorable of our entire trip and should not be passed up under any circumstances. This is where to come if you like serenity, but only a short drive to Kariba town. A perfect stop for a few days if you're visiting the area, or taking the Kariba ferry (which is itself an amazing, albeit expensive experience). Beverley even arranged for us to go on a scenic speed boat trip - at a lower cost than the boats in town would charge. Such a fantastic experience. Thank you Beverley!

  • The most spectacular setting on the shore of the lake - we fished at dusk and dawn, had wonderful meals and thoroughly enjoyed Bev"s hospitality. Highly recommended.

  • We were looked after beautifully. BEverley is a fabulous cook and host. She went out of her way to meet my dietary needs and it felt like a home from home. The view is breathtaking and in our hearts now.

    Alicia2017-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A paradise for lovers of nature and wildlife. Two hours after our (a Danish family of seven adults) arrival the hosts had prepared a wonderful grill meal while elephants were passing by less than 50 meters away and hippos and crocs could be seen at the lakeshore just beneath the house. After a day we had observed ten species of mammals and more than fifty species of birds. Never seen such an abundance and diversity of birds anywhere in the world. The hosts and their staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hosts stayed with us the first and the last days of the stay and took us on game viewing and fishing trips on their speed boat. Then they went away and we had the house for ourselves for the next ten days with the staff of three doing everything they could to give us a good stay, preparing meals, washing for us etc. The house is well functioning and very comfortable considering that it is located ca. 20km from the town of Kariba. In the township of Nyamhunga there is a well-equipped supermarket where you can buy everything you need and pay with an international credit card - but still remember to bring sufficient amount of US$, as cash is needed elsewhere and at present impossible to get hold of. A 4x4 is not a must, at least in the dry season, but a clear advantage for game driving. During our stay we had an overnight sailing trip on the neighbours’ large and comfortable houseboat, which can be rented at a very favourable rate (see www.return-to-eden.com). It was a fantastic trip and highly recommended when visiting Kariba. We spent two weeks at the house, and it was not a day too much. Highly recommended.

Lake Kariba — A Special Place Lake Kariba is a special place of incredible beauty, which is a nature lover’s dream. The scenery at this African holiday spot also makes it a photographer’s paradise. A visit to Lake Kariba is highly recommended. It is a most relaxing form of holiday. Along the Zambezi River is Lake Kariba. The lake was created when a dam was built across the Zambezi in the early sixties to provide hydro-electric power. The building of the dam was controversial as many people lost their homes and thousands of animals had to be rescued in something called Operation Noah, organised by a man called Rupert Fothergill. Animals of all sorts were saved from drowning, with many having to be rescued as the waters rose around them. Now, the lake, which covers an area of 5 000 square kilometres is a wildlife paradise, both in the water with crocodile and hippo, including as some of the world’s best fish, especially the tiger, which fishermen have to really fight to catch, and on the shores where the Matusadona Wildlife Reserve has the highest number of lions per square kilometre of any reserve in the African continent. The most iconic image of Lake Kariba is of the fish eagles, who sit in the fossilised trees in the lake, hunting for fish and whose haunting cry is a sound you will never forget. Visitors can stay in one of the game lodge suites facing the sunset along the shoreline or perhaps enjoy a few days in a houseboat, just drifting along and enjoying the spectacular scenery and watching the wildlife come down to the shores to drink. Lake Kariba is a special place of incredible beauty, that is a nature lover’s dream. The scenery at this African holiday spot also makes it a photographer’s paradise. Lake Kariba is among the four largest man-made lakes in the world and the second largest in Africa. The Lake and the lodge lies along the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The dam wall was built across the Kariba gorge to harness the river’s flow to provide hydroelectric power for the growing industries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Although both the local people and wild animals were initially displaced when the dam was filled between 1958 and 1963, safe relocations were made and the new ecosystem provides life in many forms. Villagers and their livestock have constant access to water. Covering an area of nearly 6 000 square kilometres, the lake has also become a year-round source of water for an abundance of animal and bird-life, and a popular travel destination for both local and foreign tourists. The main town that lies at one end of the massive lake is Kariba Heights. It is carefully situated 600 metres above the lake, up a steep hill. The area generally has hot summers, averaging, and an average rainfall of 660 millimetres. The winters are usually warm, with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). Wintertime, from April to August, and anytime is the best time to go to Kariba. Several stories have been told to explain the origin of the name Kariba. Some elders in the area note that close to the dam wall lies a rock that resembles a traditional stone trap, riva, hence Kariva, literally meaning “little trap”, later mispronounced by Europeans to Kariba. Another version is that the rock was named “Kariva” due to the fact that when the river flooded the rock, it trapped water, thereby making it difficult for the locals who often crossed the river to return to either side of the Zambezi River. Whatever the origin of the name, it is generally agreed that the name Kariba is a mispronunciation of the rock which lies beneath the water surface, close to the dam wall. Lake Kariba is a tremendous wildlife experience. Gamefish, particularly tiger fish, which was among the indigenous species of the Zambezi river system, now thrive on kapenta, a small species of sardine-like fish that was introduced into the lake as a commercial fishery venture. Fish eagle, cormorant and other water birds frequently visit the shorelines. Elephants, crocodiles and hippos are also commonly seen. Come Experience Zimbabwe for a spectacular vacation. ( Newsday)

  • Upon our arrival we were welcomed by a family of buffalo's followed by 5 zebra's and once we arrived on the premises a young bull elephant was waving us welcome, hippos and crocodiles in the shoreline in the garden. Totally safe, utmost beautiful and the best safari in Kariba, right in front of the terrace. By far the most wildlife around the region is just around the premises.

  • We did not stay at Rory's place but at a lodge that is located 50m from his. Since his lodge was double-booked, Rory and his mother found us another place at no extra cost. We ended up staying at lodge 17 which was an upgrade. Even if we did not stay at Rory's place, we did really appreciate that they accommodated us and found a better place for us. Besides, the guy who is taking care of lodge 17 (where we stayed), Crispen, was a charm and a very good cook. We really enjoyed the time we spent there. The Wild Heritage propriety is very quiet and peaceful. From the terrace, we could see happy hippos playing in the lake all day long.

Come Experience Zimbabwe for a spectacular vacation
