Places to stay in Heddington
Hawthorn Lodge is close to some of the most beautiful walks in Wiltshire with access straight from the door as it is situated at the foot of Historic Roundway Hill. The lodge has only just been fitted out and so almost all fittings are new and of a high quality. Perfect for pets as the lodge is set in it's own secure garden. New for 2017 is a large hot tub. Very quiet apart from the dawn chorus and the sound of the passing horses from the local riding stables. Excellent value for money.
Newly fitted out with top quality furniture, beds, kitchen equipment etc. The new daily maintained hot tub is only a few steps from the door and is totally exclusive to you.
Wiltshire is in my opinion our most beautiful, greenest county. Hawthorn lodge is sited at the foot of Roundway Hill meaning you will find no shortage of endless glorious walks. There are several walks of different lengths that will take you to The Ivy Inn to try out the local Wadsworth ale and tasty pub grub.
  • My partner and I stayed here for a romantic one-night stay away and it didn’t disappoint. Chris was a great host from the minute we booked! There were lovely touches like a bottle of wine in the fridge, fresh milk and fresh flowers when we got there. The hot tub itself was amazing and very relaxing!

  • We had a great stay at the lodge, such a lovely quiet area, and the place was comfortable and clean. The garden area/hot tub was really lovely even when the weather wasn't ideal. Would definitely go back for another stay.

  • A great stay in a rural Wiltshire lodge with hot tub! Thoughtful details throughout the lodge and a home away from home. Thank You Chris! Would recommend to everyone for a relaxing stay!

    Nick2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Chris was a great host. The garden had flooded the week before and he kept in contact with me regarding this so I was aware there may be a problem with the hot tub. Luckily it was all fine and I can genuinely say its the best hot tub I've ever used. The twinkly lights are a great little touch. The lodge was clean and plenty of comforts to enjoy including a playstation. I'd definitely recommend Chris's place and would certainly love to stay again.

    Heidi2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay here, and not our last! Excellent in every way. Highly recommended.

    Lucy2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This little lodge is in a ideallic quiet spot with walks straight out the back door to beautiful views. The lodge itself is clean and has so many little home from home touches. Every cupboard and door we opened we were pleasantly surprised. It is so dog friendly, completely closed in garden complete with dog biscuits and bowls for your furry friends! The hot tub is just bliss and we were in it in a storm! Thank you Chris we will definitely be back

    Kayleigh2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was amazing! Everything just for you. Full private and relax! We will come back definitely :)

    Agata2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I had a great time staying here for a lovely relaxing break, we especially loved the hot tub! Chris was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome.

Castle Grounds House is a family home quietly located down a private lane, overlooking the Castle Grounds and within a minute's walk of the Market Place. This is a spacious double room with en suite bathroom with handheld shower, Wifi, tv and Tea/coffee facilities and trouser press.
A large, King Sized bed with proper feather pillows, and crisp cotton bedlinen await you. The room has an en suite bathroom with a bath and hand held shower. With an eclectic mix of furniture the room is a good size and very comfortable - we have tried to provide all the bits and pieces you may require for your stay including a hair dryer and an assortment of basic toiletries. Despite being a stone's throw from the Market Place, we are located on the escarpment overlooking the valley to the south and so you can expect a peaceful night with only the birdsong to disturb you in the morning.
Our home is a minute's walk from Devizes Market Place, and yet it is tucked away from the bustle of the High Street at the end of a quiet lane overlooking the Castle Grounds. There are many and varied restaurants and pubs within walking distance, as well as a cinema. There are good bus connections to train stations as well as to local attractions such as Avebury, Stone Henge, Marlborough, Bath etc.

  • The Wee Croft is small but perfectly formed. We had everything we needed for a NYE and Birthday trip away. The furnishings are modern country cottage style. The accommodation was clean and in a great location to walk into town/the canal tow path for walks. Devizes is a friendly town, relaxed on NYE with free entry to many venues and with so many pubs to choose from, you won’t have to queue to get in or at the bar! Great time had by all. Will recommend to family and friends. Thank you for having us Katie and Neil.

A newly refurbished barn with a modern feel, warm and cozy. Sleeps max 4 with a wet room (shower and toilet in one) small kitchen, dining/ sitting lounge and a separate bedroom. Situated at the dead end of a road, no traffic, quiet and peaceful.
A spacious apartment consisting of 2 rooms in a cozy, cottage on a secluded farm, nestled in the Wiltshire countryside surrounded by meadows (the listing says it's in Heddington, but really it's about 1 mile outside of the village). It has it's own private entrance and is equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. For a taste of rural, village life come and stay in our homely, stylish converted barn. In the kitchen/dining/lounge you will find a kitchen unit with 2 burners, small fridge, microwave/oven, water kettle, toaster, Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother. There is a comfy sofa and chair and a dining table with 4 chairs. The separate bedroom has 2 single beds with the possibility of adding 2 extra beds. Getting away from it all while still having the option to be technologically "connected" (we have WIFI, but no TV!) Feeling like you're really in the middle of nowhere. When sunny have a nice cup of tea or coffee in your own private courtyard! If nature is feeling kind rabbits, pheasants and even deer can be seen. This quiet escape is a great base from which to explore the Cotswolds, Wiltshire, Somerset or cities like Bath and Bristol. If you need transport, groceries or anything else, just let us know ahead of time and we'll work something out at a mutually acceptable price. The closest supermarket is 4 miles in Calne.
Since the apartment is in the middle of the Wiltshire rural countryside it is lovely just to step out of your house and go for a stroll on the many public footpaths. We will provide maps of the area. Your stay is within easy reach of Bowood which is a grade I listed Georgian country house with interiors by Robert Adam and a garden designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown. It is adjacent to the village of Derry Hill 6 miles away. Lacock village (6.7 miles) is a firm favorite for film and TV producers, most notably for its picturesque streets and historic cottages untouched by modern alterations. Dyrham Park (26.8 miles), a spectacular late 17th century mansion, garden and deer park. Inside the mansion discover fascinating interiors little changed in 300 years including superb Dutch art and ceramics of that period. Explore 270 acres of ancient parkland, where a historic herd of fallow deer roams freely and magnificent trees and breathtaking views abound. Avebury (9.3 miles), a world-famous stone circle and on-site museum at the heart of a prehistoric landscape. Avebury Manor has just reopened following a major transformation for a new BBC series entitled The Manor reborn. Stonehenge (24.9 miles), ancient ceremonial landscape of great archaeological and wildlife interest. Within the Stonehenge World heritage Site, the National trust manages 2100 acres of down-land surrounding the famous stone circle. Discover other prehistoric monuments including the Avenue and king Barrow Ridge with its Bronze Age burial mounds. Caen Hill locks (7.2 miles), This flight of 16 locks may be the most impressive anywhere on the UK's waterways. They were engineer John Rennie's solution to climbing the very steep hill in Devizes and were the last part of the 87 mile route of the Kennet&Avon canal to be completed. Visit the bustling market towns of Bradford on Avon(14 miles), Devizes (8.2 miles) and Marlborough (14.9 miles). The city of Bath is 40 mins by car. Bath was inscribed as a world heritage site. The city has a variety of theaters, museums and other cultural and sporting venues, which have helped to make it a major centre for tourism. But of course the Roman Baths are the most famous attraction. Swindon outlet center is 21 miles. The Ivy inn is a wonderful 15th century thatched pub in the village where they cook tasty, freshly prepared homemade dishes. They also provide take away menus.

  • This property is so much better than its pictures. It was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained. There were so many lovely extra touches like fresh bread, slippers, and tea, coffee etc. Coos’ husband greeted us and was very welcoming and kind. The property was warm and cosy on arrival and stayed that way throughout. Great kitchen facilities & bathroom was all you need; hot shower and immaculate! Location was easy to find thanks to Coos’ instructions and was close to local villages. It was peaceful and we got a brilliant nights sleep in the super comfy beds. Would definitely stay again! 5 stars!!

A self contained top floor flat in an early period Victorian house, set in the heart of the Wiltshire Downs. Containing everything you would need at home, the apartment has a spacious double bedroom plus a twin bedroom, sleeping four. It is totally self sufficient, with sitting room, kitchen and bathroom. The Cherill White Horse a mile away with fantastic walks, and hundreds of traditional west country pubs around the area.
I do have two dogs who love people coming to the house as they think they have come to play a game with them - so as much as they will love you, it is probably not suitable for anyone who has an allergy to dogs. Access is via the main house front door and staircase and has off street, free parking available, with a village shop/post office 50 metres away. I will most likely be downstairs, and available for anything you might need.
We are within v. easy access to all the following: Avebury, Silbury Hill, Bowood House/Gardens, Lacock Abbey etc., Caen Hill Locks/Devizes, Atwell Wilson Motor Museum, Fox Talbot Museum, Kennet & Avon Canal Pubs/Restaurants: The Black Dog,The Dumb Post, The White Horse, The Black Horse, Coconut, The Black Swan etc. Longleat, Stonehenge are not far as well. The White Horse/Lansdowne Monument 1 mile. Chippenham (7 miles) is a useful town and has a railway station.
  • Jane is a brilliant host and Deepwell House is not only delightful, it is cosy and comfortable. The Kitchenette has everything you need to prepare a snack or a meal. Jane left me a welcome pack which comprised of milk, butter, marmalade, croissants, crisps and cereal which was very nice. There is a 2 ring hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and tea and coffee. The wiFi is very good and the parking a bonus, although you could park on the road. You also have Freewiew TV to watch. The Double bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable. I would highly recommend a stay at Deepwell House and would definitely return

  • Gray place to stay , very warm and friendly, thank you

    Simon2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Expect an instant home. Such good value. A very relaxing stay especially that i worked long hours. Netflix, I found it on the third day. But a lovely surprise. Lots of surprises in fact but I won't spoil your experience dont book a hotel. Book here. I have watched enough four in a bed, to know that her gorgeous loft at at Deepwell would pass the test. Will be a very fond memory. If you want peace plus you are within walking distance of Avebury. A hike but "dayable ". Well done Jane.

  • Excellent!!

    Judith2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Jane's home. We loved the accommodation it had every thing that we needed. It was clean and very comfortable. It was in a great location to explore the surrounding area. We would recommend her holiday home to our friends. Thanks from the Jones family.

    Gary2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent space and fantastic value for money. The kitchen and lounge space are great to make it that much more than just a bedroom and lets you cook your own meals. Jane provides lots of cooking equipment and utensils which are all you could need for a few nights, plus a great welcome pack which was a nice surprise. Bathroom is also well equipped with a good shower and excellent water pressure. Lounge area has a nice comfy sofa and a smart TV mounted on the wall with Netflix / AmazonPrime (assuming you have a subscription) in addition to freeview. The over all space is bigger than it looks on the pictures, although one thing to note is that at 6'3" I was only a couple of inches off the ceiling - so might be a bit compromised for anyone over 6'4"! Entrance is via the front door, with a key, and up a couple of flights of stairs to the top floor apartment, so you can be nice and private. I'd certainly consider staying here again.

    Colin2019-11-15T00:00:00Z

Confortable room, everything we needed and more was inside. I liked the small attentions like fresh milk and butter in our fridge. Coffee, chocolate, tea, sugar, two cups, different sized towels etc.. There is even a TV in the room ! Thank you very much, and I would recommend a 100%

  • From the moment we found Mandy's home on Airbnb, everything was positive. Her quick responses to our questions and the booking process was super fast and our welcome was warm and helpful. We would not hesitate to stay here again. The room was spotless with tea and coffee making facilities, along with a toaster and preserves. The bathroom is large and shower is powerful and easy to use. There are lots of extras here too, from soap to hair conditioner/body wash. You will want for nothing. Mandy's home is perfect for any length of stay and we are looking forward to staying again. Thank you Mandy for your kindness and thoughtfulness, you are a super host with a stunning home. Thank you for taking time to discover more about The Tiny Barn, a self-contained studio set in rural Wiltshire. The Tiny Barn is newly refurbished and believed to have been built originally as a gardener’s bothy and store. The Tiny Barn is a cosy, open plan studio with ample natural light and high quality finishes and fittings making this a comfortable and perfect location for couples or a single traveller to enjoy what Wiltshire has to offer.
The Tiny Barn has a kitchenette with a two ring hob, built in larder fridge and a combination microwave (includes grill and convection). There is a gas-fired combi boiler providing heating and hot water. The TV is a ‘smart’ TV. The WiFi is dedicated to The Tiny Barn and has no data restriction. There is a dual USB charging socket. Complimentary tea and coffee is provided as well as bathroom toiletries. One side of the full size double bed is against a wall. There is a separate WC with basin. The compact shower, approximately 600mm square, is tucked away round a corner and is open to the studio’s sleeping and living areas. Parking is located immediately outside the studio. The Tiny Barn does not have its own dedicated/private outside space but there is a bench to relax on from where to enjoy the surroundings and the wonderful view.
Studley is a small hamlet with stunning views over rural Wiltshire. There are three pubs/restaurants locally, all walking distance. Bowood House, the stately home with Capability Brown-designed grounds and also with hotel/spa and golf club, is very close, either by a short drive or a longer walk. The Sustrans NCR4 is a short walk or cycle ride away. Avebury and Lacock are a short drive away. Bath is quite close, easy to drive or a 11 minute train journey from Chippenham.
  • Absolutely loved our stay at the tiny barn, the use of space is ingenious and the thoughtful finishing touches ensure you get a little bit of luxury in this home away from home. Fantasic location, within walking distance of a lovely local pub, plus easy drive into Bath, the Cotswalds or the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. We would definitely stay again!

    Lisa2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • The little barn is a lovely comfy clean space. Very nice location and well furnished. Exactly as described thank you very much

    Brett2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely place. It doesn't feel small inside and has everything you could need. Really quite, private and lots of little touches that make it even nicer! If you are a bigger person, the shower cubicle might be a bit tricky as it is quite small. Other than that, gorgeous!

    Abigail2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication with local advice as booked at the last minute. The barn was a great space, extremely quiet, clean and comfortable and was a great location for Bath and the surrounding areas. Great value for money and would stay again if in the area.

    Dean2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tiny but awesome! The owners have managed to pack all the amenities you could need for a comfortable stay in a small footprint. The space was immaculately presented, and precisely as described. The communications with Nicky & Mark were very quick, and they were extremely accommodating. Very highly recommended.

    Paul2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful tiny house to stay in! The Tiny Barn is nestled in the countryside with stunning views over the fields. Despite its small size, the Tiny Barn has all the mod cons anyone would need for a short stay. It was perfect for our work trip with only a 10 min drive to Calne. I would recommend staying here. Also the local Nepalese/Indian restaurant is fantastic!

    Pilyn2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The 'Tiny Barn' with a big heart. We arrived during storm 'Ciara' and the barn was thankfully warm and cosy. The Barn has a well equipped kitchenette with a large fridge. The decor is beautifully done. The bed is very comfortable, comfy lounge chairs and a great place to eat overlooking the pretty countryside. The Barn was sparkling clean and had everything you needed. Nicky & Mark were great hosts, their communication was instant, they were discreet but there if you needed them. We would certainly recommend this property and would love to stay here again.

    Sarah2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • This will be a long but necessary review. As the first guest to experience The Tiny Barn, I feel I should give details for future guests to know exactly what's in store especially when it comes to the size. Understand, this lives up to its name. Therefore, space is limited. I'm 5'2" and everything fit perfectly for me. If you are taller and require a ton of space, do not book, then complain. Be well aware there is a 10 minute walk to the closest bus stop. If you want seclusion, this is definitely it! Those are NOT negatives, just things to be cognizant of before your visit...otherwise...everything was/is immaculate! I wanted a week away from the city and was provided an excellent country tiny cabin. The bed was comfortable, had every amenity needed and great wifi service! Nicky answered any question I had and was available when needed. I was able to cook meals, store food in the fridge and use Netflix effortlessly. If you want a beautiful secluded retreat, this is your place! Not a sound and meters and meters of gorgeous country. Would definitely return!

  • We had an excellent time at Nigel and Olivia's place! It felt as if we would have a separate apartment rather than a room, so it is ideal for those who want privacy. On a day of arrival, we were provided with freshly baked bread, milk, orange juice, butter, and jam. We were also welcomed by their friendly pets (through the window). To be honest, it was one of our best stays so far.

    Eglė2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for being a great host and for allowing me check-in late. The accommodation had everything you could ever ask for and the fresh bread in the morning was an amazing touch too, thank you

  • Nigel and Olivia went above and beyond all expectations during our stay. Thoughtfull touches, complimentary juice and snacks, comfortable bad and stylish bedroom. Heated towels were especially appreciated given the storm outside. I would definitely recommend. Amazing hosts!!!

  • The most comfortable, peaceful place to stay. Just what I needed to rest between work commitments. The fresh bread was most tempting and delicious, and everything was in place for a highly recommendable studio. The location is fantastic and it must be truly amazing in the spring and summer months. I will certainly stay again if the opportunity arises. Thank you, Sarah.

  • Great spot in stunning Bishop's Cannings, right by the church- which was perfect as I was attending a wedding there. The room and private bathroom were equipped with everything you could possibly need. Much nicer than the photos in my opinion and I had a lovely night's sleep in the double bed. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area for work or pleasure.

  • Had a great stay at John and Avrils. The room was very cozy with really comfy beds and coffees and teas in the room. We would love to return when we are next in the area and would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a place to stay nearby. Thanks again.

Lots of local knowledge if you want it and information in the room.Private parking space and own bathroom ,cozy room with tea and coffee facilities. Spotlessly clean. John and Avril and Hector the dog were wonderful hosts and will definitely return when next in the area.

  • John and Avril’s place is marvellous for a stay anywhere near the historic tourists spots be it Stonehenge or Bath or Avebury etc. The house is idyllic and is accessible by public transport. The listing is wonderful and could accommodate upto 3 adults and a kid at ease. We were 3 adults who fit in comfortably. The listing is much more spacious than the actual pics which is quite a rare thing. The beds were tidy, comfortable and the room was stocked with books, toys etc. The toilet was spotlessly clean and stocked up with all the amenities. Furthermore the bathroom/ toilet was right beside the room and due to thoughtful sound proofing, the noises doesn’t get transmitted. The house in itself was very clean. The hosts were kind enough to leave us some chocolates and other coffee/ tea making amenities. More than anything, John and Avril were wonderful humans who were kind and ensured our comfort throughout the stay. They also helped us with local tips and it was our pleasure to get to know them. Their pet is absolutely lovely and one of the most well mannered one. I would totally recommend their listing for any type of stay - couples, friends or family.

  • This was a great escape! The quintessential local English expérience with a warm and welcoming couple and their sweet dog. They made us feel comfortable and well looked after while affording us privacy and even some complimentary goodies. We'd definitely stay again if we're in the area. • This was our second stay at Maggie's place, and it was a very comfortable stay too. We briefly saw Maggie upon check in, and then had to rush off to an event, but the studio was warm when we arrived, and there were little touches of milk and biscuits with the place being really clean. We had a good night's sleep again, and cannot thank Maggie enough for providing an excellent value for money airbnb!

Enjoy the tranquility of this charming country retreat on the outskirts of Rowde. Set in its own little orchard, this self contained annex is just a stone’s throw away from the Kennet and Avon Canal and within easy reach of the pretty market town of Devizes. Lovingly converted in 2019, the Orchard Retreat offers high standard living accommodation for up to 4 people with all mod cons and a warm, welcoming feel – not least thanks to its beautiful décor and cosy underfloor heating throughout.
The Orchard Retreat has a cosy double bedroom with a comfortable double bed which boasts a pocket sprung mattress topped with memory foam – giving amazing levels of support and comfort. The sofa in the sitting room can easily be converted into a comfy double bed – thus giving the option of accommodating two further guests. The open plan kitchen & living room is a beautiful, airy, bright space with natural light streaming in by day through the fully glazed contemporary French style sliding patio doors which look out onto the patio and orchard and the two velux windows in the roof can be remotely controlled to allow just the right amount of fresh air into the room. The generously sized fully fitted kitchen with breakfast bar is well equipped and offers everything you may want for a self catering holiday: high quality Neff gas hob and oven with extraction unit over, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine, Nespresso coffee maker complete with starter pods, kettle and toaster – and the breakfast bar can double as a laptop friendly workspace. The living room area seats 4 people and whether you just fancy looking out onto the orchard, relaxing over a glass of wine, reading a book or you like to switch off watching TV (a smart tv) or surfing the web on our free, unrestricted Wifi, you can be sure that nothing but possibly a few cheeky squirrels or some deer looking for the orchard fruit will disturb your peace. On sunny days you can sit outside on the patio or under the trees in the orchard where you may find our free range hens rooting around. Beyond the orchard, through an opening in the hedge, you can see a paddock where our horse can often be found grazing - fenced in by an electric tape fence. A fully tiled, spacious, modern wetroom with power shower, low level WC and heated towel rail completes the Orchard Retreat perfectly and, of course, you will find soap, shampoo, nice soft towels and a hairdryer at your disposal to make your entire stay as enjoyable, easy and comfortable as possible. The Orchard Retreat has its own private entrance and 2 private parking spaces (more can be arranged on request).
This location offers the best of both worlds: a peaceful countryside setting with lots of great walks and cycling routes at its doorstep, starting with the world-famous Caen Hill Locks of the Kennet and Avon Canal just a minute’s walk away (which is also a much visited spot by fishermen) and it is also within direct reach of great road links to visit and explore the great historic and prehistoric sites, National Trust villages and famous towns and cities of the area. There is nearby Lacock with its famous Abbey where some of the iconic Harry Potter scenes were filmed, Bowood House and Gardens, Avebury and Marlborough. Furthermore, there is Stonehenge, located on Salisbury Plain, about 16 miles south of Devizes and a further 8 miles south of Stonehenge is the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury. The Roman city of Bath, Longleat, Stourhead and the Cotswold Water Park are also not further than a 40 to 50 minute car journey away. As Wiltshire is famous for its White Horses carved into the chalkstone hills, why not visit the nearby Pewsey or Westbury White Horse – or for that matter – make it your mission to see them all during your stay! As we are situated just outside the village of Rowde you can walk to our award winning local village pub, the George and Dragon, via a pretty footpath which partly leads through the picturesque Caen Hill Diamond Jubilee Wood which borders the Caen Hill Locks. It is only a 10 to 15 minute stroll into the village. The Rowdey Cow, a farm café and ice cream parlour set in the middle of farm land overlooking beautiful countryside, can also be reached within 20 minutes on foot via the Jubilee Wood walk and along the edge of fields (or via the main road if preferred). It serves delicious breakfast, lunch and lots of home made cakes as well as home made Italian ice cream. Devizes and the surrounding local villages offer more places to eat. Just ask us for recommendations!

The Retreat was clean, well styled and had everything we needed over the weekend. Suzi herself was a great help to the weekend and we couldn’t ask for a better host! We will hopefully be returning at some point!

  • We really enjoyed our month stay at orchard retreat while we looked for houses and jobs in the area. The place itself is a very comfortable, modern space. Well equipped with modern facilities to self cater. The underfloor heating was a luxury. Everything was very clean, thoughtfully furnished and the hosts caring and attentive. The place is set in a very quiet area behind the main house. It is well located, being walkable distance to the village centre and the town of Devizes. If I didn't now live in the area I would certainly stay again. I thoroughly recommend this place.

The Nest is a lovingly refurbished unique space, on the grounds of a 200yr old chapel, in the picturesque hamlet of Sandy Lane, Wiltshire. The self-contained ensuite room has its own front door and keyless entry for your comfort to come and go as you please. Your own private Jacuzzi hottub is also included. Located 1.5 miles from Bowood and 3 miles from Lacock. Find us on Instagram @thenestsandylane
A warm and indulgent nest, featuring a French antique king size bed and a copper leafed, free standing, cast iron roll top bathtub and now with a Jucuzzi hottub, the perfect way to end the day, or start an evening... We provide dressing gowns, slippers, towels, soaps and shampoos, dressing table with vanity mirror and hairdryer. In the room you will find a drinks station offering a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and drinks fridge. There is a TV and WIFI is available. The heating is simply controlled by a thermostat in the room. We offer a selection for breakfast, including cereal, juice, bread and spreads. Keyless entry makes it simple for you to come and go as you please. There is plenty of parking in the driveway. We are blessed to be surrounded by such a unique selection of wildlife. There are plenty of garden birds, woodpeckers, pheasants, muntjacks, roe deer, kites and occasionally the sparrow hawk pays a visit which is amazing to watch. We are regularly frequented by a pair of Partridges, (Alan and Mrs. Alan) who usually pop in to the bird buffet for breakfast or supper... Public transport is available but very limited. A car is required. Also there are no shops in the hamlet, just a pub which is about a 2 min walk from The Nest. Follow us on Instagram @thenestsandylane
3 mins walk from The Nest is The George Inn on Sandy Lane serving a delicious menu and carvery dinner. Booking recommended and not open on Mondays. A short 2 min walk is the historic thatched church of St. Mary and St. Nicholas, often selling a small selection of local preserves. We have some stunning trails right off our door step. Chittoe Heath, Spye park and for a longer walk - Lacock. Down by the George pub there is a trail which winds through the Bowood lake, into Derry Hill. Or keep straight and you will reach Mile Elm, heading on to Calne, or catch the old railway line into Chippenham. If you fancy a hill climb, you can head for Roundway, which is down past the historic thatched church of St. Mary and St. Nicholas. Jump in the car (or catch the very rare bus) to the close towns of Calne, Melksham or Chippenham. The market town of Devizes is a good spot for a bit of shopping and food.
  • Wow - this word describes our weekend and our stay at this Airbnb! Expectations have been exceeded, the hosts went beyond and above to make our trip special, decorating the room and leaving us a bottle of bubbly for our arrival. (Birthday gate away) I can totally see ourselves making a return in the future. Thank you.

  • Wow, what a beautiful space in the country. We stayed for 2 nights and can't fault the Nest. The room was clean, cosy, warm and well equipped with a lovely ensuite and everything you need for a few nights away, not forgetting the gorgeous roll top bath! It also had a bonus of having a lovely hot tub and peaceful surroundings. Trevor was great, very friendly and full of advice and made us feel very welcomed. We also really enjoyed the daily fresh pastries for breakfast, thank you very much!

    Becci2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Nest is beautiful, the studio like living space is very spacious with a truly luxurious and relaxing bath to soak in. Everything we could have needed for an indulgent night away was provided, even down to bath salts and slippers. The hot tub was a lovely added extra even on a rainy night.

  • Beautiful space with stunning views!. It was my husbands birthday and there were lots of thoughtful touches. Hosts were extremely welcoming and made us feel at ease. Will definitely recommend to friends and we would stay here again. Thanks again, Sammy and Chris

    Samantha2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I took my husband here for a birthday getaway for a night. Our stay was perfect. Trevor and Lynda made our stay extra special by providing a happy birthday banner, a cute welcome note and bottle of bubbly in the fridge. The place was romantic and charming. We were able to take a nice walk in the countryside and stop at a great pub for dinner walkable to the cottage. We will defiantly recommend to our friends.

    Ariana2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway for a couple, everything was just so good, jacuzzi was amazing at night, fairy lights leading up to it were a personal favourite, just can’t fault a thing

    Danny2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Nest is a fantastic place for a little getaway. The room was spotless and had everything we needed for our 2 nights away. The bed is super comfy and the bath in the room is a lovely touch. The hot tub was amazing and easy to use. Trevor and Lynda were the perfect hosts. They made us feel very welcome and made it clear they could be available as much or little as we needed. There were croissants and fresh orange juice left each morning and they very kindly left us a bottle of prosecco when we arrived (which went down very well in the hot tub) as we were celebrating my wife's birthday. It was the best experience we have had with hosts while using Air BnB. We would highly recommend The Nest to anyone looking for a romantic / relaxing getaway.

    Chris2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The nest is a lovely cosy little spot perfect for a romantic getaway. The hosts were lovely and left some lovely thoughtful touches throughout. The hot tub is wonderful. Thanks again

  • We really enjoyed staying in this modern, super clean studio accommodation. Everything you need to have a home from home stay. The accommodation was sufficiently warm throughout our stay even though the weather was horrible outside. Cooking facilities meant that we were able to have a cooked dinner using the new, barely used oven and hob. Felt like luxury but good value. Thanks so much.

The North Transept is part of our converted Victorian Gothic church. We've done all the conversion ourselves - the high ceilings and beautiful Gothic windows make it a unique space. It's in a small hamlet called Chittoe, in a beautiful hidden valley in the Wiltshire countryside, surrounded by fields and with lovely walking from the door. It's easy to get to local towns like Devizes and only half an hour to Bath. We provide continental breakfast with fresh ground coffee and a range of teas.
Coronavirus outbreak: We are cleaning all surfaces down with disinfectant, along with door handles and other areas that people may well touch. The north transept is very self-contained so other than meeting and greeting you (that we will do at the obligatory 2m distance!) you will have no contact with us. The North Transept is a self-contained annex of our Victorian Gothic church, The Old Church. The church was built for the local country house estate in the mid 19th century and was deconsecrated in 1980. We have been converting the church since 1988 - it is our family home. The North Transept has its own separate entrance from the outside into its own lobby which is a good place to leave your coats, shoes and boots. This then opens into the North Transept space - an impressive double height living and dining area. On the ground floor there is: a comfortable living and dining area; a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, gas hob, microwave, coffee maker with beans, and plenty of worktop space; a bathroom with bath and shower. Stairs lead up to a mezzanine which has a comfortable king size bed with hanging space and drawers. At this level there is a large beautiful Gothic window which looks out onto the old graveyard and beyond to open fields. The whole space has beautifully high ceilings with exposed beams but is warm and cosy with underfloor heating under the stone ground floor. The sofa on the ground floor level is a double sofa bed, for which bedding can be supplied on request. Access to the North Transept is step free with wide doorways making it wheelchair accessible; wheelchair users who are unable to get upstairs would be able to sleep on the sofa bed. The North Transept has Wi-Fi, telephone, smart TV and an audio system with bluetooth so you can play your own music.
The North Transept is located in Chittoe a quiet hidden valley with lots of lovely walks directly from the church and many others just a short drive away. It is in hamlet of less than 20 houses and on a no through lane so it's very quiet and peaceful (apart from the sounds of the owls, pheasants and Muntjac deer!). As well as walking and enjoying the peace of the countryside, there are loads of other things to do in the area. Nearby are: the market town of Devizes with Wadworth Brewery and the Kennet and Avon Canal with its famous Caen Hill flight of 29 locks; the National Trust village of Lacock which has Lacock Abbey and has been used as a set for various films and TV programmes; Bowood House with its famous Capability Brown gardens and golf course, spa and children's adventure playground; the Neolithic stone henge monument at Avebury, Silbury Hill, and the West Kennet Long Barrow; the picturesque village of Castle Combe; the historic market town of Corsham with Corsham Court; the market town of Marlborough; the Georgian City of Bath is about 35 minutes away; Stonehenge is about 40 minutes drive; Salisbury is about 1 hour away. There is a variety of places to eat nearby including village and town pubs and a range of restaurants. There is a well stocked farm shop about 5 minutes away, a village shop about 10 minutes away, and a range of supermarkets within 15-20 drive.
  • Great hosts as always, highly recommended, Spotlessly clean.

    Rob2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great host highly recommended, just a shame it was only the 1 night stay as I would of loved to stay longer. Definitely will stay again.

    Rob2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The North Transept is beautifully converted and it is a warm, comfortable and well-equipped place to stay. Its location is perfect for enjoying the countryside or visiting the nearby towns. Sarah was very welcoming and had plenty of local recommendations for places to eat out and things to do. For staying in, the kitchen has everything you might need, the bed is very comfy, and the apartment and garden are simply a lovely place to relax and enjoy some peace and calm.

    Myles2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The place was fantastic! The converted church is beautiful and unique, and the host was extremely friendly and diligent.

  • Lovely place, quiet and unusual - perfect for us!

    David2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The North Transept is absolutely beautiful! The grounds, too, are very impressive and the setting so tranquil and picturesque. Wonderful comfortable bed, toasty underfloor heating, all the amenities you could think of; all in a truly unique setting. Tara, the goldie, is an added bonus - lovely cuddles when you're missing your own dogs! Don't hesitate to book - you will love it.

    Rachel2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a quiet get away to relax this is the perfect place in a quiet village. Everything needed to for a comfortable stay. Bed was very nice too ! Great pubs local that do great food, and not to far away from Bath.

A large double room, light and airy and very close to Kennet and Avon canal. It has a modern en-suite shower room with sink and toilet. Crisp cotton sheets. USB charging points. A help yourself continental breakfast is included. Perfect for the canal and a 15 min walk to centre of town. We have lived in the area for many years and have information on local walks, pubs, places: Bath, Salisbury, Avebury, Stonehenge and Lacock. Devizes is a lovely market town with much to see. Great for couples.
Best for one or two people, although we could accommodate one other person on the sofabed in the lounge downstairs. There is a toilet and sink downstairs too.
We live right at the top of the famous flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon canal. Stunning views, wonderful walks and wildlife right on the doorstep. A 15 minute walk along the towpath and you are in Devizes, a charming market town with two independent breweries, many lovely cafes, pubs and places to eat. There is a cinema here, as well as regular music events, and various arts festivals.
  • Hilary's place was ideal for our weekend away especially with the canal so close. Our hosts were friendly and helpful, providing everything you needed in the room and their kitchen. We liked the booklet of walks, places to eat and local info - would definitely recommend.

  • Hilary's place : Great accommodation, large bedroom and bed, very nice ensuite bathroom. Used the kitchen for a meal and dining table for meals. I found Hilary and her partner very friendly and, accommodating. I would highly recommend this place.

    Saladin2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Hilary’s place is so well located, just steps from the canal which was perfect for our short walking holiday! The room is comfortable and clean with lovely toiletries in the en-suite and soft fluffy towels. A kettle and tea in the bedroom was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious and we found the whole stay very enjoyable.

    Kate2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely one night stay at Hilary's place. The room with en-suite was very cozy, warm and spotless. There were plenty of free-parking space in the street although Hilary kindly parked her car in front of the house to save us a spot in case there would be too many cars and no more space available. She was also communicative and available before and during our stay and she provided all the useful information to get to her place. We felt very welcome into her home. And she also kindly offered us some breakfast options that met our diets which we thought was very thoughtful of her. Finally the location is great, we didn't know Devizes and the locks that are literally out of the front door. This was really an interesting sight and walk. Highly recommended place to stay.

  • We absolutely loved staying at Kathy & John's Airbnb. A lovely location just off a quiet and rural village green. Although attached to the house the annex is very private and feels like your own little apartment. It's beautiful decorated and we felt very much at home. We particularly loved all the little touches...fresh milk, juice, beer, cake, shower gels, shampoo and a fabulous continental breakfast. We also really appreciated the tips from Kathy and John of the best local places to visit...we can highly recommend Lacock which is only 15 mins away and is just like stepping back in time with its quaint cottages. The filmed quite a bit of Harry Potter there so is especially "magical". Thank you very much for all your hospitality. We will definitely be back! x

  • This cottage is in a wonderful location. Walking from the door with our dogs is the most important part of our holiday. The cottage is compact but plenty of room for two with everything we needed. Comfortable beds and a good shower. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive.

  • Anne’s place is perfect. Quite short walk to the pub for a beer and food. Loved staying and will be back as soon as we are in the area again

Cherry Tree Barn is located in the grounds of Hazeland Lodge, an old hunting lodge for Bowood House estate. A peaceful location, with stunning views and lots to do on the doorstep (including heated swimming pool and tennis court), come and enjoy your own little piece of the Wiltshire countryside.
Cherry Tree Barn is a fantastic converted barn, with 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 (plus 1 infant in a travel cot) and 1 bathroom with shower/bath. One double with kingsize bed and one twin that can be made up as a super king double on request. Fluffy feather duvets and pillows (or anti-allergy bedding on request). Bath towels, hand towels and pool towels (when pool is open) all provided. Minimum stay varies - 2 nights Oct to April (min 3 nights in school holidays), 3 nights May to Sept (7 nights during summer school holidays Sat-Sat, but would consider 3 or 4 night stay starting or ending on a Sat). Mezzanine dining area overlooking the tennis court, lounge with wood burner, TV with sky package and free WiFi. Kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. Please note that there are 5 steps from the main living area to the mezzanine dining area off which the 2 bedrooms and bathroom are located. Patio and BBQ next to the heated swimming pool (open May to Sept) and tennis court (open all year). Playhouse, slide and swings for little ones. Large wooded garden to explore. Nearby fishing, horse riding, walks and a pub 5 minutes up the road for food and drink. A 5 minute drive away is the wonderful Bowood House and Gardens with kids adventure playground. Also close to Lacock Abbey, Longleat, the City of Bath, Avebury and Stonehenge and many more local attractions.
We live in the middle of the Wiltshire countryside, on a single track road, with just a couple of neighbours and the pub up the hill. We have a number of public footpaths on our door, one of which is a disused railway line where you can walk or cycle for miles uninterrupted by traffic.
  • What a gorgeous place to stay. We needed to stay close to grandparents and found Marion's property. It was spotless, spacious for a family.of 4, warm and so v peaceful - Marion obviously takes pride in making it as welcoming as possible! We didn't try out the pub in walking distance nor the tennis court nor the pool but we will most definitely be back v soon before it's totally booked up!

  • Marion was great from start to finish. Made us feel at home from the very start, with great communication throughout and also had some lovely additional touches. Place itself is very cosy and homely, would definitely recommend and we will also be returning in the summer time!

  • A lovely little hideaway. The perfect location for feeling that you’re away from it all, when you’re actually only a few minutes from all the amenities you could need. Marion was very attentive and maintained fantastic communication when it came to organising our stay. No request was too much and she happily provided us with anti-allergy bedding, a cot and a high chair to make our stay as simple as possible. The property had a wonderful, homely feel. Everything was beautifully clean and kept so cosy and warm. We’ll definitely be booking to stay again!

Nestled in the back garden of our 15th Century Cottage in a rural village, at the end of a no-through road, guests are assured of a peaceful and quiet stay. Yet with Devizes just 3 miles away, you are close enough to enjoy the bustle of this Market Town and its many interesting Coffee Shops, Restaurants and Pubs. We are situated on the edge of the Pewsey Vale and within easy access of Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge and Marlborough.
The Annex has a king size bed, an en suite shower and toilet, a small fridge, a microwave and tea and coffee facilities. Milk will be in the fridge as well as some homemade biscuits and bananas. As there is no separate kitchen and dish washing facilities are limited to the hand basin in the bathroom, we suggest that any crockery and cutlery used (especially if you are here for a few days) is left on the table outside. I will run it through my dishwasher and return it to you by the evening.
Etchilhampton is a small rural village. There is a Community Shop and a Pub in All Cannings which is two miles away. Devizes which is a Market Town is three miles away.

Stable Cottage is a cosy and comfortable detached thatched cottage, alongside a small brook and overlooking gardens and fields. The village has a traditional pub and local shop/post office within walking distance. The cottage is furnished and equipped to a very high standard. It is near the small market town of Devizes which has been described as a 'mini Bath' with its regular weekly market and good selection of independent shops and places to eat. Near Stonehenge, Avebury, Longleat, Bath.
You can enjoy staying in a traditional English thatched cottage - don't forget to look for the old hay loft door outside. The cottage has access directly onto the garden. A table and chairs are available to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet and the view over the stream and fields. A king fisher has sometimes been spotted by the stream!
The cottage is set in a English country lane but away from the road. The area is quiet and peaceful and the locals are friendly.
  • Great cosy place, in a very nice village. Highly recommended.

  • We stayed at The Stable Cottage for 5 nights while we played at a music festival at Cleeve House. The cottage was a wonderfully peaceful counterpoint to the buzz of the festival and just what we needed to relax afterwards. It is so cosy with everything you could possibly need. We particularly enjoyed the gardens it is set in, listening to the birds and the wee burn outside. Potterne is a very interesting village and it's very easy to get around the Devizes / Melksham area from there.

    Gayle2019-06-12T00:00:00Z
