Places to stay in Haverthwaite
Character cottage in the heart of Bowness. Walking distance from all amenities , yet set back in a private location behind trees. With parking and lovely garden this is the perfect place to explore the beautiful surroundings.
FOXGLOVE COTTAGE IN WINDERMERE LAKE DISTRICT Foxglove Cottage lies in Bowness, one of the Lake Districts most popular villages, with its many shops, inns, cafes and restaurants leading down to the beautiful lake Windermere. Foxglove cottage is the perfect place to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty and to walk to local restaurants for a spot of dinner and maybe glass of wine or two. The end property of three traditional lakeland cottages, Foxglove Cottage is a short walk from Bowness village and bay and yet remains private, hidden behind trees and shrubs. A shared drive leads up to the cottages and Foxglove is on the far end with lovely private garden to the rear. The side entrance leads into the well equipped kitchen/dining room. A single step leads up to the oak beamed sitting room. The room has comfy sofa and arm chairs, and , of course , the obligatory log burning stove. A most comfortable and cosy place to relax after a long walk in the beautiful surrounding area. A narrow staircase leads to the upstairs floor, on the landing is the first bathroom with bath and overhead shower. A few more steps lead onto the main landing off which there are two bedrooms, one the master double, with en-suite whirlpool bath and overhead shower, the second a pretty twin bedroom. At the rear of the cottage there is a lovely private garden, surrounded by shrubs and trees. there is a dining area where you can perhaps have a barbecue and enjoy a glass of rose in the spring/summer. This is a perfect place to stay for either couples or a small family, where the amazing area of the Lake district can be easily explored and just a short walking distance you can pop out to wine and dine in the evening before returning to a cosy relaxing cottage. The Location The linked towns of Bowness and Windermere lie east of Lake Windermere, where Bowness is at the waters edge, with the town of Windermere set about a half mile away above the lake. Each is a busy community of shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions, serving both the local community and our visitors to the Lake District. Perhaps the biggest attraction is the bay at Bowness, a sweeping crescent of waterfront and adjoining parkland, where you can enjoy a walk by the shore or find a quite place to picnic. At the bay you will find the piers and the famous Windermere steamers, which offer boat trips up and down the ten - mile reach of the lake. Here you can also hire rowing boats and motor powered boats, which can be taken by the hour to explore the lake and it islands for yourself. Other popular attractions are the World of Beatrix Potter, the Windermere Steam Boat Museum and a little south of Bowness the Blackwell Arts and Crafts house, one of the most important surviving houses from the turn of the 20th century. The house is a superb example of the Arts and Crafts movement architecture, where it occupies a stunning position overlooking Windermere and is open to the public as a gallery for craft and applied arts. North of Windermere is Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Center. Set on the lakeshores the main house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you will find a huge adventure playground, café, shop and exhibitions along with a host of information about the National Park. For visual entertainment you have the Royalty Cinema in Windermere, and the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness, staging a lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants, where for me the best is by far Jericho’s in Windermere. Owned and run by Jo and Chris Blaydes, the welcome is always warm, the setting perfect and the cuisine delicious. For a good country pub atmosphere there is the Queens Head at Troutbeck, about 2 miles from the main village the inn offers fine beers, good food and roaring fires in winter months. For the big walks and big landscapes you will have to travel a bit further into the park, however there is a good local walk up onto Orrest Head, which begins from Windermere, just opposite the railway station. Anecdotally it was the first ever walk for Alfred Wainwright where the view from the summit was said to have changed his life and set him on a lifetime of fell walking and the production of those much loved walking guides. Also quite local are the fells to the south of Bowness. Although not mountain high, they offer a magical rolling countryside rising above the lake with magnificent views. Travel a little further afield and you much to explore. South of the villages, at the foot of Windermere, is Newby Bridge and Lakeside where the steamers terminate. Here you will also find Fell Foot Park for boat hire, fishing and the National Trust Gardens. East lies kendal, the capital Town of South Lakeland. A host of good shopping, restaurants and a busy cultrural scene with the likes of the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Brewery Arts Center. At the northern head of the lake lies Ambleside, a popular town with cinema, pubs, restaurants and huge selection of outdoor and climbing gear shops. Once you past the head of the lake you are within easy rach of the big fells such as the Langdales, the forest of Grizedale and the other great lake in the south, Coniston Water.
The outstanding natural beauty, beyond compare! Convenience of local village with it's selection of restaurants and shops.
  • Lovely traditional Lakeland cottage, super cute and brilliant location. Stayed here Friday to Sunday for my partners birthday weekend away. The cottage is very cute and cosy with lovey wooden beams and traditional decor. Kitchen has excellent amenities and the place is lovely and clean. The location is just perfect, tucked away behind trees yet a minute walk from the centre on Bowness. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

  • We couldn’t be more impressed with Artie’s lodge. Everything from start to finish was top notch. Elizabeth was a fantastic host and very welcoming. The views are incredible and the lodge itself is beautiful, filled with really quirky features. Lovely touches like the gin and bath bombs made it great to relax. The breakfast was delicious and it was delivered to us hot and at the time requested. Our dog Dennis had a lovely time and made a friend in Elsa :) All in all a fantastic trip and we highly recommend!

  • A perfect romantic getaway with stunning views across the lake, I would without a doubt stay here again!

    Jack2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived to a personal welcome, and were made to feel at home right away. We were treated to a cooked breakfast on both mornings, which was a pleasant surprise! Is spite of the weather, the views of Lake Windermere were amazing from the large windows on the ground floor. The home is gated, with secure gardens for our dog to play. We’re hoping to return in the summer to see the lake in all it’s glory!

    Kyle2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place. I came with very little knowledge of what to expect and I had an amazing time. The host is very friendly, available and helpful. I had no idea where to go walking and the host immediately gave me several recommendations. Artie's Lodge overlooks Lake Windmere with a stunning, undisturbed view. The place inside is kept extremely clean and is full of character and quirks. The lodge is very well furnished. My favourite bits were the massive bed and amazing bathtub! I went with the full English breakfast and certainly wasn't disappointed. The meat was extremely flavourful and those home grown eggs! I came away having really enjoyed my stay and just wished I were staying longer. I would definitely stay here again.

    James2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth was a fantastic host - the lodge is beautiful, the location is perfect, and breakfast was delicious and a much appreciated addition to the stay. Oh, and the view! One of our best AirBnB’s we have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in many around the world. Thanks very much for a great stay, 100% recommended.

    Josh2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay! We had such a wonderful time! Thank you so much for making us feel welcome, we will definitely be back!

    Daniel2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely visit. Beautiful location and close by to bars/restaurants. The out house was bigger than expected and the breakfast was an amazing touch. Wish we stayed longer. Elizabeth was very accommodating and we would love to come back in the summer time and explore even more of Lake Windermere.

    * Corona Virus edit: We are still taking bookings. We are in a rural setting with no immediate neighbours * The Bothy at Cowmire Hall is a delightful, first-floor converted farm building, consisting of a hall, large living-room/kitchen open to the roof, a shower-room and double bedroom. There is also a gallery or sleeping-platform above the kitchen area which can be accessed via a ladder from the living room/used as a bedroom at your own risk and there is also a sofa bed in the living room.
The main living area is open plan and vaulted to the ceiling with exposed beams and trusses. A Juliette balcony opens out on to the inner farm yard giving views of Whitbarrow Scar, an impressive limestone escarpment and well worth a walk to the top, where views of the neighbouring valleys and beyond on a clear day are a must. The kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of crockery, utensils, serving and cooking dishes, pans, baking trays, making life easy if you want to enjoy home cooking during your stay. It is open plan to the main living space, meaning guests can interact whether relaxing on the sofa or rustling up a delicious meal. There is a large electric range style cooker as well as a microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The Bothy is centrally heated and also has a wood burner - perfect for a night in. Kindling and logs are provided, baskets are stocked on arrival and guests are invited to top up from the woodshed during their stay. The living area had a large TV screen with DVD player, internet is free and is Fibre to home Broadband, giving excellent connection should you need it. Fuel, bed-linen and towels are included. The Bothy sleeps up to six people, with the option of a double bed, sofa bed or two single floor beds on the mezzanine (open to the main living area). Please note that the mezzanine is accessed by a cut out wooden wall ladder. The bathroom has an electric shower, basin, toilet and large linen cupboard. There is a utility room on the ground floor (separate entrance) with use of a sink, washing-machine, tumble-drier, freezer space and space for bicycles etc. There is an outside sitting area with table and barbecue. The Bothy looks out to the south over a farm-yard to Cowmire Hall - a C16 pele tower extended in the late C17, where the owners live - its garden and the Winster Valley. To the north the view is of the farm orchard. There is not any livestock in this yard, though tractors come and go, and our hens have the run of the space during the day. Guests may park cars here. The yard is separated from the main road by a gate, and the house by a wall and gate, giving a safe space for dogs to be off the lead. We would however ask that they are exercised either along the lanes or adjoining fields.
There are 2 local pubs within walking distance of The Bothy, one being the famous Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank and also the Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge. Walking takes about 15/20 minutes to these fantastic pubs, both of which allow dogs.
  • Nothing better than staying in a Bothy for a full immersion in the Lake District. Rebecca’s place has all the basics, and the atmosphere is homely and welcoming with a warm log stove and comfortable sofas in what was clearly a very old barn, converted to a good standard. The Bothy is in wonderful countryside with lots to see, do and eat nearby. Thanks for sharing!

    Matthew2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great countryside location close to Lake Windermere - well maintained and lots of character

  • Great location. Our kids loved hearing all the farm animals. Great log burner....very cosy.

    Emily2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay whilst in the Lake District. Rebecca was very welcoming and helpful, the accommodation was clean, comfortable and great fun for us city folk. We will be telling all and sundry about our stay and urging them to book so I'd be quick if you want to enjoy the bothy.

    Daniel2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • The Bothy is beautiful. Put the kettle on and have a cuppa by the log burner and read a book or watch a film. The entire place was clean, comfortable and quaint. The little touches Rebecca adds such as the blankets, the towels, the decorative ornaments make its feel like a home. The kitchen has everything you need, even spare dog bowls. Rebecca was lovely and responded quickly to any questions I had. Being greeted by the chickens in the morning is a delight too. It’s also only a 15 minute drive to Windermere where you can get the ferry over the Ambleside. The walks are peaceful, especially when the sun is shining.

A charming apartment in a traditional Lakeland house. Ideal for walking, cycling, climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking. Wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants in nearby Windermere & Bowness. Main tourist attractions within easy reach.
Willow is a located in tranquil woodland with views towards the mountains and fells. The apartment is part of an extension to Pinethwaite Lodge. The original part of Pinethwaite Lodge dates from the late 19th Century. Willow has a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The kitchen, dining and living area are all in one room with sink, electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, dining table and chairs, settee and TV. The bathroom has underfloor electric heating, a shower, toilet and wash hand basin. A cot for a baby can be provided on request but please bring bedding for the cot (my children are in their mid 20s now!) Willow and our grounds are not 'child friendly', however. I do not provide child proof plug socket covers or cupboard locks. In addition there are a number of external hazards including a pond, stream and stone steps close to the apartment. Your child/children will need to be supervised at all times. I charge a one off payment of £5.00 for the use of the cot. I can provide a camp bed which fits in the kitchen/dining/living room area if the sofa is moved! It is a bit of a squeeze! If you wish to use the camp bed as well please bring a sleeping bag. I charge a one off hire fee of £5.00 for the use of the camp bed. There is a small courtyard by the entrance with table and chairs. Bicycles can be stored in an undercover storage area next to Willow in our shed.
The Lake District is a year round destination and Pinethwaite Lodge is located near Windermere in the heart of the National Park. Outdoor opportunities are endless: walking, cycling climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking - all within easy reach and Windermere Golf Club is just up the lane. The main tourist attractions of the southern Lake District are all on the doorstep – Windermere with cruise boats, Beatrix Potter attractions, a cinema in Bowness – and a little further away are the Aquarium of the Lakes, Car Museum, Sizergh Castle and Brockhole Visitor Centre. Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles, with a wide choice of shops, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants and modern and traditional pubs. The popular centre of Windermere is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that give glorious views of the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head, a 784’ hill north of the town, provides one of the finest panoramas – as does School Knott – immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another easy climb is Biskey Howe, a 300’ hill east of Bowness, which has quaint narrow streets and a 15th century church. Windermere, the lake, has fourteen islands, including privately owned Belle Isle with its 18th century round house. Further afield, the list of stately homes, steam railways, lakes and tarns, homes of authors and poets, and fine eating places, is almost endless, all set in the deep valleys and foothills of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain’s best scrambling and mountain walking may be found. Even in today’s busy world, it is possible still to leave cars and people behind and find solitude in many parts of the Lake District. In addition, Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: foxes, badgers, roe deer, and a wide range of birds, from buzzards, to long-tailed tits, warblers, fly catchers, heron, tawny owls and many more.
  • Cecilia has such a wonderful apartment in a brilliant location, just a 10 minute walk from the centre of windemere. A great base for exploring the lakes and fantastic value. Thanks Cecilia!

  • If you love the great outdoors then this is a lovely getaway! The property has a great view of the lake and a private access to it. Breakfast was lovely and is a perfect location to escape the hustle and bustle of a city.

  • An outstanding location and staff. We stayed for two nights and love the place so much. Jonathan, Georgina, Craig, and others were excellent, funny, and attentive. My spouse and I visited with our 11 and 9 year olds and they enjoyed as well.

  • We stayed one night and we’ve been very happy. Our room was facing the lake and we couldn’t have asked for a better view. The location is perfect, has access on the lake, the B&B is very cosy, Jonathon and the staff are very friendly. Recommended!

    Stefano2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathon's place was fantastic. I arrived to a plate of home baked scones with jam and cream! The loft was spacious and clean with plenty of fire wood for the wood stove. The bed was comfortable and the farm was peaceful - I came away feeling completely relaxed. The location had proximity to everything I needed! I highly recommend Jonathon's place and will definitely stay there again the next time I am in Cumbria.

I live in a cosy townhouse in the heart of Ulverston. The town is bustling with twice-weekly markets, regular festivals, carnivals and events, and a wonderful nightlife, whilst being perfectly located on the edge of The Lake District. 30 minutes drive from Junction 36 of the M6, or 5 minutes walk from Ulverston station, which is an easy transfer from the West Coast Main Line. The room has a modern double bed, a basic wardrobe with hanging and shelf storage, a bedside table and reading lamp.
Guests have a comfortable and newly furnished room overlooking the town, and The Hoad monument. The nearest pub is about 20 paces away, with over a dozen within a five minute walk. Many have live music, quizzes, and a wide range of local beers on tap. My kitchen/diner and living room are available for your use, and you can make yourself at home with these.
The Hoad monument is only a 25 minute walk from my front door, with views across the fells of the Lake District, and towards Morecambe and Blackpool on a clear day.
  • Very central and nice, clean room.

    Mark2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Loved my stay here, Sarah as a fab host, she thought of everything and the barn is immaculate. I particularly enjoyed the view from the bedroom window in the morning. It's epic! I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cosy place to stay in the lakes.

    Dom2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at Sarah's place! It's about a 45m walk to reach Ulverston, which was mostly downhill so quite easy. If travelling on a busy weekend you need to book restaurants and taxis in advance - we didn't manage to book the restaurant we wanted as Ulverston got incredibly busy on the bank holiday weekend.

    El2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The photos do not do this place justice- it's a lot bigger and more luxurious than we expected! It is a clean and comfy home and Sarah has thought of everything you could possibly need. The location is a short drive from the lakes, but handy for access to more amenities in Ulverston.

    Vera2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay. Home from home. Peaceful, wonderful views. A great place from which to explore The Lakes. Spotlessly clean, great amenities. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again soon. Jan

A romantic, stylish and cosy cottage for two in the beautiful Lake District National Park, half a mile form the shores of Lake Windermere and 15 minutes drive from Junction 36 of the M6. We've recently completed a top-to-toe renovation of our 250 year old cottage, giving the place a modern rustic feel. There are many wonderful walks and bike rides available right from the front door and some great gastropubs nearby - plus the 2 Michelin starred L'Enclume restaurant just a few miles away.
Free BT super-fast WiFi. Charging point for electric vehicle. Smart TV with FreeSat. 15 minutes drive from Junction 36 of M6. LGBTQ friendly. Dog friendly. We can organise fun things for a special occasion, including champagne and local handmade chocolates - please just ask.
Lake Windermere is a short walk from our front door, accessed via the National Trust's Fell Foot Park. Newly opened Active Base centre at Fell Foot offers a range of watersports. Across the lake at Lakeside is the Haverthwaite Steam Railway, the Lakes Aquarium and you can take the passenger ferry around England's largest lake with Windermere Lake Cruises.
  • Loveday was the place of dreams. We couldn't have asked for a better stay! There were so many thoughtful touches and lots of great information in the cottage for surrounding walks, meals out and things to do! We can't wait to return.

    Gina2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Loveday cottage for my parents for a weekend, and they have had the most amazing time. They have asked me to pass on their review! They said that Loveday cottage was a piece of paradise! Everything is of a very high quality and would recommend to anyone! Also Emma and Gregor very kindly left some homemade brownies, that my mum said were the best she ever had!! Thank you!

    Sinead2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • So lovely and cosy. Probably the best bath, I‘ve ever had.

    Grace2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Back to reality after what was the most relaxing and tranquil weekend. Loveday was just perfect for what we needed and exceeded all expectations. The perfect place to unwind and put your feet up after long walks and breathtaking scenery, all a stones throw from the cottage. Thank you for making our weekend so special.

    Kate2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage, even better in person! Very clear!

    Rhys2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully thought out accommodation, with plenty of little touches. The bath is simply amazing! Struggled to decide between soaking away the evening or curled up in front of the log burner. Fully equipped and spotless kitchen with underfloor heating. We had an amazing weekend away and very glad we decided to stay here. Excellent hosts.

    Lucy2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage has everything you want! It’s Spacious, very clean, well equipped, cosy fire, amazing wooden bath and the best homemade brownies we’ve ever had. We fell in love with this place the moment we arrived. The peace of the area gave us a chance to relax in the beautiful surroundings. Close by, the lake, hills and mountains gave us the chance to have some adventures. Our Lake District cottage is one of four properties that were once the mill in Water Yeat. It has an open kitchen dining room which makes a great space to relax. The living room has a wood burning stove, vaulted ceiling and large windows with views over the hamlet and countryside.
Our cottage has: An open kitchen diner with electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. A living room with two sofas, satellite TV, DVD and wood-burning stove. 1 double bedroom with king-size bed 1 double bedroom with double day bed Bathroom with bath and separate shower Hallway Parking for two vehicles Garden and patio
We live in a small hamlet with lovely views and walks and cycle rides in all directions. Walk straight onto the nearby hills, down to the river or along to the lake Coniston Water. Nearby are the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead, the higher Lakeland mountains and Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin. A little further are Ambleside, Windermere, Langdale and Grasmere. The area has many great cafes and pubs serving local produce. For the more adventurous there is great mountain walking, climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and sailing close by, independently or with local adventure companies.
  • Had a perfect week with our 2 beagles, garden perfect for them to run around in. Cottage has everything we needed and will definitely be coming back

It is about a 15 minute walk to our local pub the Derby Arms which serves excellent meals and has a wide choice of beers. If you wish to travel a little further, there are a variety of pubs which serve good food, and at least five of them only take between 7 & 10 minutes by car and they are all definitely worth a visit. Well known Whitbarrow Scar is the backdrop to Landour and is just 10 minutes walk away. The scar is designated a biological site of special interest and a ' national nature reserve' due to its supporting some of the best European examples of natural limestone habitats. It also features in 'The Outlying Fells of Lakeland' by Alfred Wainwright. He describes it as "the most beautiful walk in this book, beautiful it is every stage of the way.... all is fair to the eye on Whitbarrow". There are many other public footpaths starting in Witherslack, two of which start within 50 yards of this property. One of these takes you up Yewbarrow Fell and the other towards Beck Head and Whitbarrow Scar. If you wish to venture further afield Lake Windermere is only a twenty minute drive away or, for the more energetic, it's about a two hour walk across the fells. The popular village of Cartmel is also about a twenty minute drive away and is well known for its 12th century medieval Priory, the racecourse and its culinary delights i.e. the L'Enclume restaurant which was hailed best in the U.K. by the 2014 Good Food Guide Other places nearby to visit are Levens Hall renowned for its topiary gardens, Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall, Fell Foot on Lake Windermere and Grange-over-Sands where you can catch a train over the viaduct across Morecambe Bay to Arnside. Rob and Sam are quick to reply and the cottage is clean and well stocked. We loved the welcome pack which had goodies for us and the dogs. We would stay again

    Fiona2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the cottage! Fantastic location to walk directly from the cottage into the woods, fairy steps and to Beatham. Close to everything and, despite the weather, we had a fantastic time! Thanks.

    Matt2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time here at Rob and Sam’s cottage. They were exceptional at keeping in contact if you needed anything. We really felt like we were in our own place. The welcome goodie box was a really nice touch too. The place is clean, warm, and cosy, especially with the wood burner. This is a great place for families or just a couples get away weekend.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. It’s a great location for a peaceful retreat and we really enjoyed relaxing in the evening and using the log burner. Julia was very helpful and quick to reply. If we had a couple more days We would have liked to explore the walks directly from the cottage, maybe next time :)

    Aimee2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • House is exactly as described in pictures. Really warm with set timer so don't need to worry about heating. Stove made a nice touch and extra cosy in the evening. Fully stocked kitchen gave the option of staying in to cook. 10 minute drive down to Cartmel with lots of options to eat. Taxi service available by asking local pubs if required. We went to one of the Michelin star restaurants for lunch one day. Also make sure to get the sticky toffee pudding from the village shop. Not to be missed. Hot tub and pool were as described in pictures and a great bonus. Really enjoyed them. Didn't meet our host but responded quickly to any queries we had. Cartmel and Howbarrow are a great base for visiting lakes.

a lovely little apartment, for one guest, with a mini-kitchen, with hob and combination oven/microwave, fridge etc. Perfect for the solo traveller who wants to explore the beautiful southern Lake District
  • Cate was very communicative and always there when I needed something. She's also a great baker and had cute brownies and shortbread as a welcome waiting. Loved the little extra touches. She also provided me with hiking route ideas and made sure everything was ok.

    Alexandra2020-02-10T00:00:00Z

  • Wish I could have stayed longer - such a good location for exploring the southern part of Lake District. Great value, cosy and perfect for a solo traveller. Has everything you’d need x

    Kayla2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is one small but perfectly formed part of a bigger place including a beautiful big garden that was aflame with Autumn colour this time, a very cool and beautifully done out yurt, chickens, a romantic and ethereal dive cote, and best of all, a fellow border collie for ours to play with! the Little White House is perfect for one, or one and a little one, as it has a single bed and Care added a fully dressed n comfy camp bed for my son. My bed was memory foam (I think) and I thought it was SUPER comfy. There’s helpful info to n local attractions but also how to walk to and from a couple of Local pubs :) This host is all about the details and it makes for a great stay. If u have a dog used to sitting on the bed/furniture, I recommend u bring throws to protect the beds n armchair. Cate is wonderfully dog friendly catering for them as well as the humans.

    Lucy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Accomodation is exactly as advertised: clean, warm, and extremely well equipped for a space of its size. Cate's hospitality was exemplary; I would certainly come here again and can highly recommend The Garden Room. Chris

  • We had an amazing time, and wish we could have stayed longer! Beautiful location and cozy space with everything we needed. It was a bit hard to find, so would recommend giving yourself lots of time, reviewing directions, and arriving before dark.

    Lauren2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a cottage in the middle of the Lake District with beautiful views, walks from the back door and a bit of peace a quiet (with the exception of a few sheep) then I would highly recommend this lovely little cottage. The drive in alone is stunningly beautiful and the hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. The cottage itself is well equipped with cooking equipment and there’s plenty of room for two people in the two floor space. Everything was clean and worked well. Even the WiFi was surprisingly good, which is required, because your phone signal will be non-existent. It rained the whole time for us, but we still loved it and managed to get out and about plenty of times.

    Oliver2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place in a beautiful area, the check in was easy and Stuart & Lynda were very hospitable. The accommodation itself was clean and had all the amenities to self cater. Would definitely recommend this for anybody looking to explore the south and western lakes.

    Olly2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • There isn’t much we can write here that hasn’t already been said about this magical cottage. From the coziness of it, the hospitality of the hosts, to the location within Lake District National Park, this stay is absolutely amazing. The fact that you can step out of your front door and begin a long walk within the park is priceless. This is made even easier by the fact that Stuart & Lynda provide a book outlining such walks. This may just be our favorite AirBnB we’ve ever stayed in. Do yourself a favor and book for an extra night because you won’t want to leave.

    Kyle2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolutely beautiful little cottage. The photos don't do it justice. The sofa was perfect for cuddling and the bed was perfect for snuggling. Well stocked kitchen with everything and anything you could need though we spent so much time out enjoying the landscape I think we only used the teaspoons! ☕ Nice hot shower after a day of walking, though you might need to mind your head if you are 6ft+ as there is a beautiful beam over the bath, for us short stacks it was a nice feature that added to the character of the place 🥰 Stuart and Lynda have made up the most convenient booklet with all the information you could ever need and it made our stay effortless. Our favourite touch is the little book of walks detailing 6 of the best walks door to door, we'll have to stay again to do some more! We adored our time in this sweet place and even with winter weather the views were incredible. It was so peaceful and quiet! The only sounds were of the little birds outside, especially the very friendly Mr Robin who was happy to be provided breakfast on the doorstep. Looking forward to our next trip to the Lakes if we can stay in Stuart and Lynda's place again!

  • This is our second visit to ringhouse cottages and it was just as beautiful as we remember. 20 mins drive away from Conniston it is the perfect location for us but still secluded and quiet which we love. Stablecroft was cute, cosy and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away. The bed was super comfy and the room a good size. The place was cleaned and tidied to a high standard. We love everything about it and will definitely be back again in the future.

A converted barn situated at Newby Bridge, located Close to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, and a short walk to the Swan Hotel & Spa. The cottage sleeps up to 3 guests and the stylish accommodation has a single and a super king-size bed on a mezzanine floor above a snug living room area, around a wood burning stove and a very large open living space. Well placed to explore the Southern Lakes, with easy access to both Hawkshead and Coniston, as well as Windermere and Ambleside.
The access, parking and gardens are shared with Waterside House.
The Swan at Newby Bridge is lovely to stroll along to for a meal. The National Trust Fell Foot Park around the corner is worth a visit. You can take one of the Steamers on Lake Windermere from Lakeside up to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
  • An excellent spacious barn (for two to three guests) which is both well equipped and boasts many interesting features. It's in a great location for exploring the lakes and is in a quiet spot immediately adjacent to the Haverthwaite to Lakeside steam rail track. It's a 5minute walk to Newby Bridge Station, which is handy. Don't be put off by the noise from the passing trains as you'll hardly notice them, plus they only pass infrequently and the first one in the morning isn'tuntil nearly 10:00am. A great comfortable place for a relaxing break.

Our home is in the hamlet where Arthur Ransome, author of 'Swallows & Amazons' spent his childhood holidays. Today it still retains its charm, even in high summer. We are a stone's throw from the lake, with woodlands & waterfalls on our doorstep.
We have 2 lovely guest bedrooms, each with king-size beds, sharing a spacious bathroom. (We often only have one guest group at a time but on busy weekends you may have to share the facilities.) I provide fresh towels, shower & bath products, wifi access & tea/coffee making facilities in your room. You can enjoy your buffet breakfast either in the kitchen by the Aga, or outside if the weather is nice. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your packed lunch or a simple evening meal though of course you may prefer to visit one of the local pubs or restaurants; the nearest pub is the Red Lion ( a gentle 2 mile walk away if you're feeling energetic!)
If you want to leave the car behind, just step out of the door! Explore the small pebbled beaches and coves at the southern end of the lake by foot or on your bike. The lovely National Trust steam boat 'Gondola' plies the lake and you can have a leisurely cruise, or perhaps visit Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin for over 30 years. If you want to climb the fells, the Old Man of Coniston and other famous Lakeland peaks are just up the road.

Great value for money.

  • Lovely little place to stay with very froendly and helpful hosts. Easy to get to and find. Private hot tub is lovely to have access to and with it normally having a gazebo over, useable in almost any weather! Very comfy bed and cozy sofa to curl up on. The only things I'd change/add is a few more/new utensils in the kitchen (e.g. tongs for cooking and sharp knives) and curtains for the 2 doors. Just to make it that bit cozier when it's dark. We will be keeping in mind for future Lake District adventures!

This is a pretty, clean, quiet single room, 5 min from the centre of town, that looks out over the garden. Tea, coffee, herbal tea, kettle and toaster are provided. The bathroom suite is new and it has recently been retiled. A bit of work needs to be done to the wall. The hall way is well on its way, but needs a little bit of work also. . This work should be finished soon, but, if you need perfection, this room won't work for you. Its a pretty house though, with a lovely vibe.
    Its very sweet
Ulverston is really pretty and atmospheric market town, which hold many festivals and music/art events throughout the year. Just outside of the National Park, it provides a great base from which to explore the Lake District, although it is not over-whelmed by tourists and retains a great community feel. It is the start of the Cumbrian Way, and the home of the Laurel and Hardy museum. There is a fabulous old cinema, which still has ice-cream intervals. There are lots of fabulous cafes, restaurants and pubs in the area. Although the house is only five minutes walk to the centre of town, it is located in a very quiet, pretty neighbourhood.
  • Very nice place. To reach the town, a car is recommended.

  • Rachel is very nice and supportive. She helps me solve the problem of getting to her home, and the way of getting to my next destination. Her home is cozy and the neighborhood is quite. I took good rest there and it was a great experience!

  • Rachel is a very caring host, and I enjoyed staying there again, in the cute little room with garden view. Little breakfats things are in the room, also a small fridge. The WFI worked fine as it did last time. I can recommend it.

    Norbert2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • It is a cozy and comfortable room in a very quiet community. I can easily find a lot of on-street parking spaces. It is a very good option for a short stay. Although it is not exactly in the lake district it is definitely not far if you drive. Rachel is very friendly and always responses to my message very quickly.

This is a unique opportunity to step back in time and stay in a Romany gypsy caravan. With a full double bed, seating area, wood burning stove and outside fire pit. Full shower facilities with a small kitchen area.
Romany Rose is a traditional gypsy caravan with all the beautiful and unique features of a bygone era. The double bed is full size but due to its position on a raised platform is most comfortable for anyone 6 foot or less!
Romany Rose gypsy caravan is set at the head of the Cartmel Valley, 3 miles from the historic village of Cartmel with its beautiful priory and regular race meets on its very own race course. The southend of lake Windermere is just 2 miles along the road with boat trips, steam train rides and an aquarium.
  • Lovely location and everything you need ! Went for dinner into Cartmel which was a lovely village and then went to the swan for a spa day after our sleep in this beautiful caravan. Will be coming again when the weather is nice to take advantage of the fire pit but the rainy weather added to the beauty of this little gem

  • Tina's little Caravan was straight out of a fairytale! My friend and I were so pleasantly surprised by how cozy it was inside, warm in the evening with a pretty comfortable bed. The next morning Tina made us a delicious breakfast with fresh baked bread. Would definitely recommend and even come back! Thank you Tina!

  • We had a lovely stay in the Romany caravan! It was cosy and comfortable. There were lots of candles which when lit in the evening created a beautiful, warm atmosphere. The breakfast was delicious and Tina and Tim gave us some tips on what to see and where to go. A great break from normal life!

A stunning 200 year-old cottage located in the charming small village of Bouth in the Lake District, now a UNESCO world heritage region. Situated on a quiet country road and bounded on two sides by open fields, with grazing shire horses and Jersey cows, this is the idyllic country retreat. The cottage has been renovated to the highest standard whilst retaining all the charm of its period. The traditional village pub is a few metres away. Breathtaking natural scenery awaits you from the doorway.
The architect-designed interior of this cottage has been exquisitely restored in the most beautiful quirky and contemporary style. The original fireplace, beams, and floorboards have been exposed and walls restored using traditional lime plaster. Solid oak handmade interior doors with beautiful ironmongery and a stunning white birch staircase have been added. Downstairs is a light and airy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with rear access to a fabulous patio, where you can catch the sun for an alfresco breakfast and dine till late in the evening in the warmth of the sunset. The lounge area with comfy luxurious sofas, stone flooring and wood burner is the perfect spot for cosy relaxation after a long day. The dining area has a solid oak table with bench seating for four to enjoy a meal together and the light kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances, with an electronic oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, food processor, comprehensive kitchen utensils and washing machine. On the first floor, where the original A-frame beams are exposed to the apex of the roof, there is a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and a large, beautifully tiled shower and WC en-suite. There is also a second equally lovely en-suite WC. Outside the property is a private, raised patio with garden furniture, enclosed wildflower garden and shed for storing bikes. There is parking at the property, with an electric car charging option and space for two cars.
The village offers a traditional pub a few metres from the cottage and a heritage farm where visitors can see traditional farming methods, even ride traction engines and enjoy a small cafe selling home-made ice cream, fresh milk and eggs. There are numerous walks of great unspoilt natural beauty from the cottage and quiet roads and tracks for cycling and mountain biking. The beautiful west coast of Cumbria with vast empty beaches is a 30 minute drive, whilst the Lakeland fells and lakes are accessible in all directions. Nearby, 15 minutes drive, is the quaint market town of Ulverston, with its narrow cobbled streets, where you can find good supermarkets, cafes and restaurants and charming craft shops. From the motorway there is a fast road without the traffic congestion of the tourist blackspots, giving efficient access to the cottage and from there to the rest of the Lake District National Park.
  • Wow what a beautiful cottage! It had everything we needed and was really clean. We had a great night sleep, the beds were super comfy. Loved our stay here! Would highly recommend, thank you so much :)

  • Wonderfully clean, warm and welcoming space! Parking available directly outside, and we didn't use the car at all over our long weekend stay, as walks with our dog took us out and about to Ambleside and Windermere. Loved the new shower room, ample hot water, lovely kitchen space for cooking after long days of gorgeous walks, and close to two fab pubs, The Black Bull and The Ship. The bed is huge and comfy! Stuart and Sandy made us and Cera so welcome. We arrived in the dark, after a long drive, but no problem. Thank you, we feel so rested.

    Matthew2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot a little outside Cartmel. The loft is a cozy space and offers beautiful views. Low slung ceilings add to the charm, and it’s surprisingly roomy. Probably not the best time of year for it, but I can imagine it’s a real paradise for bird watchers in the summer. Just up the hill from the property is a spot with cracking views across the bay and there’s a couple of nice running routes down towards Holker Hall as well. Sadly we didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub and pool, but one for next time... We survived on foot for the most part, but probably easier in a car when it’s wet and windy. On a nice day, it’s a 30 minute walk down into Cartmel Village for L’Enclume and other foodie adventures, and probably 20 minutes to the race course. We were a bit surprised to see no essentials (salt, pepper, oil) in the kitchen, but Julia was very quick to sort that out, and nothing seemed too much of a bother for her! Overall very responsive on all front. We’ll be back!

    Sahil2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Julia’s farm loft is absolutely lovely with stunning views from every window. We really enjoyed our stay at the loft and would love to return again. We had a laugh trying to find the hot tub in the darkness but managed to find it in the end and enjoy the hot tub on a cold, wet night. Check in was very simple and the loft was warm and very inviting. Had a great sleep in the bed and enjoyed waking up to the beautiful views. Thanks for having us!

    Charlotte2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely hideaway just outside of Cartmel village - sadly we visited during one of the worst storms the UK has seen in yers but we felt safe and warm tucked away at Julia's Place.

    Talisa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at this cozy attic space. We felt totally at home, and the setting was beautiful. If you walk up the hill a wee bit, you get a great view of the sun setting over the sea. The place was warm and the bed was so comfy, so we got great sleeps, too. The surrounding area is magic, but it's hard to tear yourself away from the lovely home to go exploring, especially with the pool & hot tub which we used both evenings. Would definitely recommend this place & would come back when we're next in the Lake District.

    Beth2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay and had everything we needed. Checkin was super easy and the very spacious apartment was very clean and well heated throughout. We both slept extremely well, it's so quiet and the bed was excellent. After a day on the fells it was great to use the hot tub and pool to unwind. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, our hosts were very quick to respond to queries and allowed us to store our mountain bikes in a shed which was most appreciated.

    Darren2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfy and the wood burning stove a lovely feature. The hot tub was a perfect temperature and really needed after a long day. Would definitely reccomend and would stay again.
