  • The Glass House is spectacular! It’s a cosy, beautiful space. The location is pretty epic and quite secluded. It is a little off the beaten track - that’s why we chose it. Some of the local roads in winter aren’t the best. We visited at the end of February in a small car, after three consecutive storms but we did find a route there that was easy enough. It’s well worth fully reading Julia’s directions to figure the best route for you to take. The underfloor heating keeps the place cosy even without the log burner. There are great local walks. Plenty of things to keep you busy in Allendale (1.5hr walk) and Hadrians Wall is just a short drive away. Julia is great, her farm is lovely - fully recommend and would happily visit again!

  • Great location. First time away with our dog who also had a good time. Lots of good walks, short car journey to Allendale where pubs serve good food and even better pints.

    Lewis2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely funky little place, beautiful scenery, was a shame we had rain! There are chickens roaming about outside of the house and sheep in the fields nearby. Julia and her husband were so friendly and welcoming and have local recommendations. The place is very cosy with a huge log fire, we had a lovely time ☺️

  • The Glass House is a stunning space I a stunning landscape. Perfect escape to the country with our black lab who loved the countless walks from the front door. Highly recommend and hope to be back one day!

  • We went away for a couple of nights and it was great. A cute little barn with everything we needed. And very very cosy. Enjoyed the fact that there was no WiFi and poor signal, made us appreciate the time together more and the lush views rather than being distracted. Very muddy in the wet as you'd expect but didn't let it put us off. Some lovely walks to be had.

    Aaron2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space! Beautifully furnished and heated floor was lovely on a cold, wet evening.

    Liam2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the Glass House! We did a bit of Isaac Tea Trail walk and it was just beautiful. Would love to stay again. Thank you!

    Alanna2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most amazing stay. So tranquil and secluded. The house is so impressive, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Anything you need - it’s there. We used the log burner and the underfloor heating made it so warm and cosy on a windy, winters night. The whole place is just really special. 10 minutes in the car to nice little pubs and great food at the golden lion in Allendale. Julia is so quick to respond and leaves you to your own devices but you know she’s around should you need anything. A really unique place and beautiful surroundings. Can imagine it’s gorgeous in summer with the BBQ and lovely little garden. Thank you Julia!!!

Even Storm Dennis didn't stop our trip being spot on. And the friendly deers and dogs 😍 If you want somewhere peaceful and restful this is the spot for you. Bliss.

  • What a fantastic place!!! A proper, genuine log cabin set in stunning countryside that comes complete with 3 friendly deer that greet you every morning, what more could you ask for! It's the most beautiful, warm, cosy and relaxing place even more so when the weather is a bit rough outside and I slept like a log (pun intended) every night. My pup loved it, I loved it and would definitely stay here again.

    Jonny2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin and it was magic to wake up to the deer roaming outside. Feels remote but you’re near to the lakes, Hadrian’s wall, Scotland, etc. We loved it

  • Lovely stay, great space and location, attentive host. Perfect getaway

    Geoff2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic little place to stay if you want to get away from it all! There’s loads of wildlife in the area, best of all being the friendly wild deer that come into the garden. Staying here is a really unique experience.

  • Great space and great host 🙌🏻 great new year

    Andrew2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy wee cabin in an incredible location. We have a very chilled weekend in this secluded cabin. There is so much to see close by, with incredible lakes, walks and Hadrian's Wall. The cabin is a lovely place to come back to after a day exploring the local area.

    Louise2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a relaxing cosy time at the cabin. We’re usually campers so enjoyed the luxury of a fridge and a kettle together with the added little touches of things like, fairy lights, candles and a cookie jar. The bed is soooooo comfy. To wake up in the morning to deer wandering around right outside the door is an experience we will never forget. Being animal lovers it was absolute heaven here for us with the deer, cats and dogs (our favourite was the little b&w cat) the local area is stunning! With amazing walks and drives every way you turn, we ended up not using maps and just wandering around the lanes taking in the scenery. We will definitely be back as there was so much more to see and do In the area than we had time to do in our short stay. Highly recommend a stay here to get away from it all

Bring firelighters. This is a traditional log cabin with views of the Pennines, Cairn beck flows yards away and lots of wildlife. Cosy, but rustic with a large double bed - room for a child if required. Loo (100yds) NO SHOWER Pots, pans, plates and gas hob. Wood burning stove. Dogs welcome More pictures on f/b ‘log cabin glamping’ If you bring a dog could you please make a donation to the local rescue centre. I will send a link.
The cabin is in a beautiful field with a river running through it, trees and wildlife. Truly a chance to get away from it all. You have the cabin to yourself and can explore the site as you wish or snuggle up with the wood burner. Close to Carlisle/motorways/access, yet a world away from everything.
Hadrian's wall Good local pubs Countryside walks Close to Lake District
  • Perfect location to stop off at on the way up to Scotland. Cosy cabin with a log burner is just what we wanted.

  • Just awesome! And good and private.

    Benjamin2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • New river and nature development - very interesting, lovely cabin and very private..

    Barry2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • We have traveled all over the UK and stayed in so many different locations and this by and far the best most unique place we have ever stayed. We would recommend to anyone who likes a bit of peace and quiet and a bit of wilderness. Great local pubs not too far away in both Castle Carrock and Brampton. We have been a few times now to both the Riverside Cabins and will be coming back very soon again.

    Colin2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot praise this place enough. Absolute hidden gem! It looked gorgeous from the pictures but as we pulled up it's even more gorgeous in real life. We took our reactive dog with us, and although the other 2 cabin guests had dogs we were far enough away with plenty of greenery etc in the middle of the field that it wasn't an issue in the slightest. The cabin inside is basic but with lovely touches such as little wall hangings and homely furniture. You need to pack as though you're going camping although cups, plates, bowls, cutlery and pans are all provided. The only downside is that the toilet is located at the entrance to the field, which for someone who is scared of the dark is a bit terrifying in the middle of the night. Would be better if a camping toilet was in the cabin/portaloo round the back etc. Overall we absolutely loved our stay, and we will deffinately be back again!

    Jordan2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fourth visit so that speaks for itself I hope. It’s snug, has the comfiest bed and is all so relaxing. We loved watching the rooks dancing on the wind. We got a clear night too, the stars are absolutely mind-blowing.

    Vikki2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place. As described completely. Flushing portaloo by enterance, with drinking water and logs to buy (£4 a bag with honest box). Bring firelighters and BBQ tools if needed. Very basic utensils and plates/glasses but more than enough to get buy. If you want specifics then bring them. Location excellent, total peace and quiet, 2 other cabins on site but just in eye sight. Our dogs loved it as much as we did. Great 3.5 mile circular route as recommended by Alexander from behind oub in castle carrock. We then followed with lovely spot of lunch at Blacksmiths Arms in Talkin. Highly recommended cabin and we will be back.

    Rachael2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place! I can only recommend if you are after some peace! We had real bad weather but still an amazing time! Everything you need for a short stay is provided in the cabin and the place is really clean and tidy with fresh bedding. We loved every second and definitely will be back!

  • Julia's cottage is really lovely and she is a brilliant host. We walked her dogs with her on our first day, showing us which walks to go on and we met and stroked the animals she has around the place which pleased my 10 year old very much! The cottage is cute with comfy beds and lots of charm. The best bit is the location - very remote and beautiful views from every window. Absolutely lovely.

    Vicky2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely cottage which was very comfortable, cosy and homely. Julia was also really helpful. We would definitely go back.

    david2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Julia is a wonderful host - just right in terms of checking everything is ok, and open offer to help with anything we’d forgotten. The cottage is utterly charming and a haven in the countryside. Cosy and rustic, but full of modern amenities.

    Fiona2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • A comfy property, extremely remote, lots of animals around you, definately off the beaten track, fabulous walking area, very picturesque, a lovely get away.

    Helen2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, stunning area, cosy interiors, a great place to hideaway and switch off!

    Rosemary Kate2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • A absolute gem of a cottage in the middle of nowhere, perfect for that weekend getaway with country walks & the log burner on the go. Everything was amazing.

    Tim2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely countryside cottage with comfy beds, great views and a sweet little town just down the road. Would recommend

    Samantha2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Knockburn cottage was an absolutely wonderful break away, the cottage is super cosy and comfortable especially at this time of year. Having the fire lit in the evening was a really nice treat. The bed is extremely comfortable and we slept like babies! There are lovely little touches like fluffy dressing gowns, slippers and an honesty box of local goodies (we unfortunately didn't bring any cash for it but there were some delicious looking things in there!). We didn't have much trouble finding the place as Julia sent extensive directions. There isn't any wifi and phone signal is touch and go but that was part of the charm. The kitchen had every appliance and utensil we needed for cooking & baking as well as basic necessities like oil, salt & pepper. We had an amazing time and are definitely planning on coming back!

An ‘Amazing Spaces’ inspired shipping container conversion, entirely off grid, with wood burning stove, solar panels, sheep's wool insulation, beech wood reclaimed flooring and a separate composting toilet. In a peaceful secluded wildlife friendly garden, at the foot of the Pennine hills, the container is 5 minutes walk from Talkin village with a friendly pub serving food. An excellent base to explore Hadrian's Wall, the North Lakes and the Eden Valley.
The container is ideal for nature lovers, walkers and birdwatchers, with an excellent view of the bird feeders from the comfort of your armchair! There's plenty of space to sit out on the reclaimed wood decking in summer and the wood-burning stove keeps it cosy and warm in winter. It is perfect for star gazing on clear nights in winter due to the lack of light pollution. It is set in its own completely private space (not overlooked by the house) and offers: Spacious decking with seating. Double bed (fresh cotton bedding and natural down duvet). Towels (one per guest). Separate foldaway single mattress. There's just enough room to sleep 3 people but it's a bit of a squeeze! Let me know when booking if you need the bedding for the single mattress. Sink and double gas burner (mains cold water supply only). Crockery and basic cooking equipment, but be aware there is limited food preparation space. Tea, fresh and instant coffee, and milk. Icebox with icepacks. Radio. Books, chess, backgammon, Scrabble and playing cards. Logs, paper and kindling are provided for the woodburning stove. Barbecue (charcoal £2.50 bag). Wifi available near the house, but not in the container. There is a reasonably good phone signal in or near the container. The compost toilet is 20 metres from the container. You can use the bathroom/shower in my house. It is in the porch so you do not need to come through the main house. The house door is left unlocked so the bathroom is accessible at all times, even if I am out or away.
As well as the popular Blacksmith's pub in Talkin (5 minutes walk from the container), there are several village pubs within 2-3 miles serving food. The Duke of Cumberland in Castle Carrock (2 miles away) is dog friendly. Brampton (3 miles) has a range of shops, cafes and pubs and a tourist information centre. There is a friendly community shop and café at Hallbankgate (2 miles). There is an RSPB reserve at Geltsdale, 2 miles away. We are situated on the edge of the North Pennines area of outstanding beauty. A short 10 minute walk takes you up on to the fells where you will get views over the Lake District and the Solway. Other attractions include Talkin Tarn, Lanercost Priory and Birdoswald Roman fort on Hadrian's Wall. There is a lovely private hire swimming pool just 3 minutes walk up the road. It's called Ullerbank pool (prebooking online required).
  • It’s perfect !

    Deborah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The shipping container was great! Very cosy with the fire on and I would definitely recommend it to anybody wanting a secluded get away!

    Jessica2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place and fantastic location! Fresh homemade cookies and milk for us as well! The fire kept the place so toasty warm, the outside area was lovely and you are on the path for so many walks. 10/10 would recommend!

    Sammy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect little stay, we wanted to just get away from the world and enjoy some time together over Valentines and that’s exactly what we got! Cosy space, comfy bed, loved the log burner, the home made biscuits were so tasty - lovely touch thanks Sue. Watching the wildlife this morning over breakfast was the icing on the cake. Would definitely return!

    Maisie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Bigger than you might expect and the log burner keeps the container toasty warm. Really comfortable bed and a calm, peaceful environment. We enjoyed the sound of owls by night, and the sight of a wide variety of birds by day. Sue was very accommodating of our late arrival, and had the log burner going for us. It’s good to have the use of the house bathroom at any time, and it’s only a minute’s walk away. Much appreciated!

    Sharron2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had Such a lovely stay at Sue’s container. Is is so cosy and the perfect place to relax and switch off! It’s spotless and got everything you need with some great walks and a pub nearby which serves lovely food! The delicious biscuits were a lovely touch too! :) thanks Sue.

    Lauren2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Already planning a second visit. A perfect getaway location. We had a lovely winter night, chilling out in front of the log burner, drinking tea and eating homemade biscuits. Definitely left feeling more relaxed :)

    Viki2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a stay in heaven. The containerhouse is really cosy and homy (with an easy woodstove and a tiny but practical cooker). Sue is definitely a superhost. It is no problem at all for going to the toilet or the shower in the house (very close to the container), also because it is a pleasure to walk in the beautiful garden. In the morning, you can watch several birds and animals eating while sitting on your bed. I absolutely loved it.

  • Such an amazing place, couldn't of expected any more a perfect location for a little romance and time out of the hustle and bustle!

    Nick2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing hosts, extremely friendly and welcoming - plus you get to meet the rescue animals! The cabin is unbelivable! It really does go above and beyond all expectations. A perfect 'away from it all' romantic break. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for having us!

    John-Joe2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • I would definitely recommend the Woodcutters cabin. Eddie was a wonderful host on arrival. Showing us how everything worked and introducing us to all the animals. Cabin was lovely and warm when we arrived and hot tube was ready to use. Beautiful scenery, picturesque walk into Alston along the river. A memorable stay for all the right reasons.

    David2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Every inch of the inside of the cabin is used to it's best potential to give you everything you need for a couple of days of lovely isolation! The drive up to the cabin from the motorway is amazing, you end up at 1900m high at one point! I would recommend the more confident driver take the wheel though as it is very twisty and turny. Make sure to take some milk for your brews, if you're not a fan of geese I would say either prepare yourself or maybe look for somewhere else as there is a herd that lives in the fields surrounding the cabin and they hiss haha! Thanks again for our stay😊

    Laura2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • The wife and I had a fantastic stay in the cabin! Hosts were friendly, showed us around and then left us to it for the weekend. Cabin was perfect and had been heated with the lovely wood burning stove ready for our arrival. Hot tub was also ready and was a joy to relax in whenever we felt like it. Lots of nice touches such as a bottle of wine left in cabin for us on arrival. Quirky little place with all the animals. Beautiful surrounding area! Thanks to Eddie and Anne Louise for helping make our honeymoon run so smoothly. Always felt comfortable during our stay. What a fantastic and unique place!

The cottage is in a remote and secluded location. On a quiet hill top, next to farmhouse, stunningly situated with spectacular views up the valley. Surrounded by moorland, woods, waterfalls, riverbanks. On the Peninne Way, pub serving great food 1 mile, Sainsburys 7 miles.
It's stunning rural location and new refurbishment.
We are just next door, but what makes it unique is it's tranquillity, and natural beauty and great local pub.
  • Beautiful location and excellent accommodation ,Highly recommend anyone staying here for peace and quiet!

  • This is such a lovely cottage in an outstanding setting! Kate was a great communicator and we arrived to a warm and inviting cottage with everything we needed for our young family. The view was amazing and we only wished we were there longer to explore. Thank you!

  • Lovely cottage and great place to get away from it all for a few days. No hassle booking and easy access.

    Stephen2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Superb house in a great location. The house is well laid out with a very large bedroom and one of the most comfy beds I have ever slept in. Situated on a farm, it is remote but also close enough to the local pub and only a few miles from 2 different town. I would definitely book again.

    David2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Yet another fantastic stay at cosy snope cottage! The location is truly beautiful and so is the cottage! We highly recommend a visit to the waterfall as it’s breathtaking and perfect for exploring.

  • Kate's cottage is absolutely lovely, located in an amazing place. The place was clean, had all the amenities we needed and accommodated 5 of us comfortably. It has big heaters which kept the place very warm during winter. And there are plenty of astounding walks around it.

    Iara2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Looking to get away from the fireworks of bonfire night, I discovered Kate’s place. Her cottage has fantastic views through the valley, and it is breathtaking to watch a sunset from the gates of the farm the cottage is on. Kate and Tom were very hospitable, checking in to make sure we were ok and the cottage was fine upon arrival. Kate also checked in during our stay just to check we were still happy. The place is dog friendly which was super important for me, and also has WiFi which was good enough to allow me to work from the cottage through the week. It was clean and lovely and warm. The kitchen has the standard elements you would expect and coffee was provided. They’ve just bought a new mattress which was nice and comfortable. The only (very minor) disappointment was the shower - getting a balanced temperature is a challenge and the shower head could perhaps do with an upgrade. I would definitely recommend Kate’s place if you’re looking for an escape to the country, with spectacular views. Thanks for letting us stay!

  • The property is wonderfully quite. Very clean. It is very close to other properties and so lacks privacy ie keep the noise down and no running around naked. Great walks nearby and loads of wildlife. As it happens I was there for 4 days and never saw a spider (I bet there is some) and didn’t have an issue with light bulbs. You are miles from shops so go well stocked. Great location for peace and tranquility with the security of having the owner next door

  • My girlfriend and I enjoyed a relaxing holiday whilst staying at Alison and James’s cottage. The property was easy to find and we received a warm welcome upon arrival. The cottage was stylishly furnished, cosy and was set in peaceful surroundings. Alison and James respected our privacy, but were on hand if we needed them for anything! There was plenty to do in the local area as the cottage is situated very close to Hadrian‘s Wall. We enjoyed learning about the impact that the Romans had over the local area by visiting a Roman army museum, which was interactive and modern. This was located just across the road from the cottage! We also visited Vindolanda, a Roman fort which is still being excavated by archaeologists! We would recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside and discover more about the Roman settlement of Britain!

  • Alison and James's place is super stylish and can't be beaten for location. It is approximately 2 minutes walk from Hadrian's Wall and is opposite the Roman museum. Beds are comfy and the shower is great. We had a lovely mini break and will recommend to our friends and family!

  • Stayed at the cottage for a weekend for my boyfriends birthday, I asked if some little touches could be added, this was no problem, a banner had been put up, a cake was there and beer too, hosting was amazing, the cottage is beautiful, so clean and tidy. There was a little hamper when we arrived which was a lovely touch. Alison and James recommended a few places to go and a waterfall to go see, which was amazing as we went. Stay was perfect.

  • A delightful stay, thanks to Alison and James

  • Really enjoyed our long weekend at the cottage. It was in a perfect location to see the local sites around Hadrian's Wall and a short walk away from the local pub which did good food. The cottage was well furnished with everything we needed and we were welcomed with a lovely hamper on arrival which was a nice touch. Alison and James were helpful and readily available throughout our stay. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a long weekend in Northumberland.

  • Geraldine's house is just gorgeous, and the perfect place from which to explore Hadrians Wall (which is a few minute drive away) and surrounds. Greenhead is a very small village with a lovely pub a few minutes walk away. The house is totally charming, beautifully styled and has everything you need. We felt at home immediately and would have loved to stay longer. Geraldine is a thoughtful host and excellent at communication. We'd definitely stay again. Highly recommended.

  • I can’t recommend Geraldine enough as a host. I had issues with my payments, which Geraldine helped resolved. The communication leading up to our arrival was superb. The house itself was fantastic, a great space for 2 families in a great location. It was everything we needed. Finally I left behind my earrings which hold sentimental value to me. Geraldine made sure they were returned to me ASAP with the help of the house cleaner, who was also wonderful. An amazing stay, thank you.

  • This was a fantastic home in a great location. A perfect choice for us and so important for us as we chose this home based on previous guest reviews. Having travelled 12,000 miles to get here, we wanted for nothing. Little touches like decorated trees and lights made for a perfect home to celebrate the festive season. Toasty warm and well equipped with comfy beds. Highly recommended.

From when we booked they were very quick with replying to any messages and left some nice welcome touches on our arrival such as tea, coffee bread, milk etc. The property has all amenities for self catering and is in a perfect spot for some amazing walks around haydrains wall and sycamore gap. • We stayed in The Tack Room and it was just so lovely. Every room was spotless but felt so homely. The views from the bedroom and living room were amazing and there was even binoculars and a little book where you could jot down any wildlife you spotted. The bed was really comfortable and the heating kept us nice and toasty. It was so peaceful and quiet which made it even better for our two dogs as they could mooch around in the garden area with no worry at all. Would definitely stay again.

Roy's Room is part of the Scotchcoulthard Farm and Holiday Cottages business. It is a twin room with an en-suite shower room, fridge, kettle, toaster, TV. There are three cottages in total along with a games room. Scotchcoulthard is set north of Hadrian's Wall just seven miles from Haltwhistle, the Centre of Britain. Not another inhabited dwelling can be seen. Dogs are welcome and we have our own who will greet you.
Set on a small farm within 180 acres it is surrounded by splendid scenery with magnificent views and not another inhabited dwelling in sight. Roy's Room looks out onto the chicken are where the sound of clucking chickens can be very soothing. You get the full experience of being on a farm and can buy the eggs. Fortunately, we do not have a cockerel! Scotchcoulthard is four miles away from The Military Road (B6318 which runs parallel to Hadrian's Wall). The last farm you pass is two miles away. If you want to really 'get away from it all' it is ideal. For those who prefer a more populated area it is not ideal! The farm track from the road is ½ mile long and can be a bit rough at times. However if taken slowly it is fine. Dogs are welcome and our own dogs will welcome you. There is no extra charge and no restriction on number. For those who love dogs but don't have any, our dogs are happy to step into the breach! Naturally there is plenty of wildlife. Red squirrels live in the surrounding forest along with badgers, deer, buzzards, foxes and many others. The nearest town of Haltwhistle (named Centre of Britain) is seven miles away. It has a couple of supermarkets and local shops for most essentials. It has its own unique history including a 13th century church with stained glass windows made by William Morris & Co. in 1872. The windows were the work of Edward Burne-Jones, Ford Maddox Brown and Philip Webb who were Pre-Raphelite artists. There are many walks in and around Haltwhistle with two walking festivals a year. A burn running through Haltwhistle has a spectacular walk through beautiful scenery. There is a Swimming and Leisure Centre with outdoor pool open from Easter until September.
Scotchcoulthard Farm and Self-Catering Holiday Cottages is situated four miles north of Hadrian's Wall in The Northumberland National Park at its most spectacular part. It is halfway between Carlisle and Hexham on the edge of Wark Forest which leads into Kielder Forest. It is necessary to cross the wall to reach Scotchcoulthard and the sites of Housesteads, Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum are only a short distance away. Although remote, Scotchcoulthard is not isolated. It is possible to be parked in The Metro Centre, Newcastle, Carlisle, The Lake District or Scotland within the hour.
  • This location is in the middle of 'nothing', as far as you would call the rugged nature. A fantastic place for lovers of peace and quiet. Walk into your door from the hills. You will undoubtedly come across some sheep. And ... just maybe ... a lost farmer?

    Fred2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place with lovely persons.

    Annaelle2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Susan and her husband were really kind, providing us food for our foot trip! A lovely place to stay, in the middle of the grasslands and we learnt a lot of the history of the county! A really good experience!

    Thibaud2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • a wonderful place

    Lizzy2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really nice place to stay, I stayed in 'Roy's room' which was good value for a solo traveller such as myself, with a small kitchen and a comfortable room (sleeps 2). If you are a cyclist, it is just off Sustrans route 68, and the track to the farmhouse is cycleable with a little care (actually a better surface than some of the next 3 miles or so of route 68 northwards which is on forest tracks). I was just staying for one night, but the facilities are great if you are staying for longer, including access to both a swimming pool and games room on-site. The kitchenette in the room can be used to prepare simple meals, with a single ring and a microwave; there is also a larger kitchen that can be accessed if required.

    Duncan2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • We felt so at home we almost forgot to leave! 😀

    Judy2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Roy’s Room at the farm was wonderful! The bed was very comfy and it was so nice to disconnect from the world for a little bit. I unfortunately woke up unwell so I didn’t get to explore as much as I wanted to but this gives me the perfect incentive to visit again!

    Dominika2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's place it perfect for an overnight stay while hiking Hadrian's wall and had everything one needs for a well rested night before setting off again. We stayed in "Roy's Room" which would be comparable to a motel / hotel room. It is nice, clean & comfy. We did see the cottages and they look wonderful. Susan is a fantastic host, we were cold wet and tired after a long day hiking in some challenging terrain. She picked us up at the Twice Brewed Inn and took proper care of us, we really enjoyed meeting her. Jason & Lisa

Large ground floor room with comfortable double bed in private house. Independent access. En suite bathroom with walk in shower. Unfortunately we are unable to offer breakfast but you can make full use of the kitchen.
We are 2.5 miles from the attractive market town of Brampton and 12 miles from historic Carlisle. The main attractions are 12th Century Lanercost Priory and Hadrian's Wall. The location is quiet and rural but an excellent centre for exploration (Scottish borders, North Lakeland, Northumberland ).
  • A beautiful and very spacious room. The hosts were very helpful and made us feel at home. Very near to Hadrian’s wall. A good place to stop whilst driving up to Scotland.

    Luke2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Was a lovely room and great location. You can walk into Brampton which was around 2 miles. Gillian was lovely and it was a great surprise having some homemade cakes in the room on arrival. Thank you!

    Abigail2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful property in an idyllic setting. Excellent location for Hadrian’s Wall and the tea rooms just up the road are extremely dog friendly. The bed was very comfy and (guys), the mirror doesn’t steam after a shower making shaving very straightforward.

    Sanjiv2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Overall a beautiful place to stay with a lovely, warm, cosy bedroom and access to a large traditional kitchen. Gillian and David made us feel most welcome from the personal check in to making sure everything was ok for us and our 7 month old daughter, we even joined them at meal times. Wonderful hosts, would thoroughly recommend and would definitely return

    Darren2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We were so thoroughly impressed with the Old Mill Lanercost. Our short stay was so comfortable and way too short. What a find is Lanercost with nice towns, the Priory and St Mary Magdalene Church, castles, beautiful countryside, Hadrian's Wall, remains of a Roman Fort etc, etc. We could not have envisaged such a beautiful place both in accommodation and history.

    Rob2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • I needed somewhere inexpensive to stay over night for an interview the next day. Gillian's room was perfect for what I was looking for and had a very comfortable stay. Cheers

  • Gillian’s home is beautiful and Gillian is very helpful and kind. I highly recommend a stay... comfortable, clean, thoughtful and I love the sound of the stream outside.

  • Absolutely delightful accommodation to stay in for some peace and quiet. Far from the hustle and bustle of urban life indeed! A small driving distance from Hadrian's Wall and exceptionally friendly hosts. Thank you David and Gillian

  • A great location for Hadrians Wall. Really clean, homely, dinky place. Lynne was extremely helpful and all her check in information was spot on. A pack of local information was extremely helpful and used by us. We loved our stay.

  • We absolutely loved our weekend here at Middlemarch cottage. We took our dog Molly and she felt at home too. The cottage is like a Tardis with a real homely feel. The skies are so dark so great if you like star gazing. We ate at the cottage first night then ate at the pub in the village which we thoroughly enjoyed. We actually didn’t want to come home and we will come back.

  • We absolutely loved our stay at Tottergill Farm. The cottage was beautiful, really cosy and made to feel homely. It was lovely and clean when we arrived and clearly is well looked after. Tracey was very welcoming and explained how everything worked etc when we arrived- we even got delicious home made cake! It has everything you need to self cater and all the facilities were great (really good shower!). The setting is stunning, the view from the deck outside the cottage (and the hot tub!) is beautiful. There are recommended walks around the local area and maps in the cottage which was really handy. We enjoyed walking straight from the cottage and ending up at the pub in the village for dinner- lovely pub! It’s also only about an hours drive from the North Lakes. Also loved that it was very dog friendly. Our dog Dennis had a lovely time! We hope to stay again soon!

SORRY - DUE TO COVID-19 I AM TAKING NO BOOKINGS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE This is my painting studio, (basic but comfy) in the garden of our 250 year old barn conversion - at Whitfield, 12 miles W of Hexham. This is part of a small collection of historical Northumbrian houses on a small organic farm in the North Pennines.
The studio has a veranda with wide open views over the East and West Allen valleys. Inside - as it is a working studio, there are the materials of the 'trade' -paintings leaning against walls etc, but there is enough space for two people to move about. It has two tables with chairs for writing or laptops, and a wood burning stove (logs small extra cost) and electric heater. The well-built sofa-bed (recently upgraded) is double size and comfy. It has a small cloakroom with toilet & wash basin with running cold water and a kettle for hot water. Guests tend to eat out in local pubs in evenings and bring their own food for breakfast and lunch. There is a kettle, toaster and double electric hob for basic cooking.
We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, near the Roman Wall. Alston, Cumbria is 9 miles away and the lovely Allendale village 3 miles away. The lake District is also within 1 and 2 hours drive from here. There is pony trekking nearby, and the river Allen is suitable for expert canoeists and kayakers when the river is in spate. Great for walkers and fit cyclists. We are virtually on the c2c cycle route.
  • Perfect for a 2 person/2 night stop over en route from down South up to Scotland. Quirky and creative studio space - perfectly adequate, cosy and comfortable. Location within easy drive of Steel Rigg carpark for Hadrians Wall- Sycamore Gap- Housesteads etc Charming hosts - there if we needed. Would definitely stay again.

    Joy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z

Situated in Northumberland, on the edge of the Wark region of the vast Kielder Forest, the Bothy at Churnsike Lodge is uniquely placed to access a wide range of the area's most beautiful locations and iconic attractions. From here, the wide expanses of Kielder beckon, offering miles of forest tracks and diverse environments to explore, replete with breathtaking views and perfect silence - ideal for those who are in search of peace and quiet. For more information, search 'Churnsike Lodge'
Built in 1850 by the Charlton Family of nearby Hesleyside Hall, Churnsike Lodge was originally intended as a Hunting Lodge, to provide accommodation for the Charlton’s and their shooting companions as they roamed the Kielder moors for grouse. The Bothy, once the abode of the resident gamekeeper, now serves as a private holiday home for any and all guests aspiring to a restful and relaxing stay in one of England's last truly remote locations.
Churnsike Lodge is situated in perhaps one of the most remote locations within the county of Northumberland and benefits from all the stunning views and splendour that nature has to offer within the wider Northumberland National Park. The property is located within Kielder Forest, the largest man-made forest in Europe, offering miles of tranquil walks through commercial coniferous forest interspersed with ancient woodland, moorland and elevated viewpoints across the vast Kielder fells. Peace and relaxation abounds, however guests must be aware that, being a working forest, in the course of their ramblings they may come across active felling sites. These sites are few, far between and may be freely traversed provided walkers act with responsibility when coming into proximity with felling operations.

  • A lovely pod in a lovely location. The views were fab from the hot tub! Loved sitting in it at night time looking at the stars! The pod was lovely and had amazing decor. Would love to come back in the summer 😊

  • A great place for a getaway. Everything was perfect. Definitely will be returning!

    Tim2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at this picturesque, warm and cosy log cabin. Great views and a touch of luxury. We loved the log burner in the cabin and the outdoor hot tub. Great hospitality from Neil, relaxed and friendly throughout. Would really recommend!!

    James2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • These pods are much bigger than the picture looks like! They are so homely and have lovely touches. Really comfy bed, warm all the time and a powerful shower. Plenty of wood for the log burner too. The hot tub is just amazing and we spent so much time enjoying the view and really secluded and private. So nice to get away from it all for a few days. You can drive in to the little village in a few minutes but I think to walk it would take quite a bit and the hill is steep on the way back. We have nothing negative to say. Sue and Neil are so lovely and helped us out with bags from the car to the pod and everything. If you are looking for a touch of class then these pods area must. Thank you again Nic and Mel

  • Bramble Cottage is a very comfortable well appointed cottage in an excellent location. Karen is a thoughtful host who responds to all questions very promptly.

    Kevin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Bramble cottage was the perfect place to stay for our trip to Hadrian's wall and Kielder forest. Self check in was easy with the lockbox and parking right outside the front door. Karen had kindly left a bottle of wine for us to enjoy as well as some biscuits to go with the coffee pods provided. The cottage was comfortable and had all the pots, pans and utensils that we needed to cook a few meals. The bed was soft and the towels fluffy. I'd definitely recommend a stay here.

Stonecrop was built in 1760 and has retained its original character whilst benefiting from all mod cons. This is a new listing. Guests return year after year and dogs are welcome. It is a much loved country cottage and enjoys a tranquil setting with a large, well stocked garden situated in a stunning part of Northumberland. Guests are welcome to walk through our adjoining field to enjoy the South Tyne. The cottage is within reach of Hadrian’s Wall, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
The cosy lounge has comfortable sofas, a wood burning stove set within the original inglenook fireplace and a small table and chairs. The light, attractive and well equipped kitchen overlooks the garden and benefits from underfloor heating. There is a small cloakroom (WC) and utility space, and a study with a bookcase and sofa bed on the ground floor. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, a further bedroom with bunk beds and a well equipped bathroom. The attractive garden surrounds the Cottage on three sides with a large, secluded expanse of lawn, flowerbeds and fruit orchard at the back. There are lovely uninterrupted views across the valley and up to the fells. You can often hear the South Tyne river especially in spate from across the field. Stonecrop is located in the tiny hamlet of Eals, and enjoys a tranquil position along a quiet no through road. The cottage is surrounded by wonderful walks, woods, open moorland and the river. The South Tynedale railway is nearby and Hadrian's Wall is just 10 miles away. the Cottage is 7 miles away from Alston being England's highest market town. The Cottage provides an ideal base from which to explore much of the North of England including the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The valley is a haven for birdlife including many moorland birds such as curlew, snipe and lapwing. A wide variety of garden birds regularly visit the feeders in the garden, and guests often sit out on the terrace and watch birds such as siskins, woodpeckers and robins. There are wonderful walks from the doorstep in all directions including along sections of the Pennine Way. The disused railway track to Haltwhistle situated in the woods behind the Cottage, provides an excellent trail or cycleway. Stonecrop is located in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is conveniently close for visiting Hadrians Wall and the Northumberland National Park. It is also within easy reach of the Scottish Borders, the English Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Ullswater for example is only a 40 minute drive away. The cottage has been the much loved holiday home of the present owners for the past 60 years.
The Cottage is situated in the small hamlet of Eals lying in the South Tyne valley approximately 7 miles south of Haltwhistle. It is an idyllic rural and peaceful location. Stonecrop is perfect for walks, cycling and getting away from the busyness of everyday life. There are many places to visit nearby.
  • We spent a few days at Stonecrop to celebrate a birthday and couldn't have had a lovelier stay. From the welcome gifts in the kitchen (chocolates, wine & homemade marmalade) and the ready-laid fire in the cosy living room to fresh daffodils in all the bedrooms and a wide selection of dvds, books, magazines, maps and boardgames dotted about, this cottage exceeded expectations. If you're considering staying here without a car, rest assured that it's totally doable. We took the train to Haltwhistle, picked up some groceries at the Co-op then found a local taxi number on the local bulletin board to drive us to the cottage for £15. In a pinch you can get a Tesco delivery to Stonecrop too! Richard was immediately responsive to messages and checked we'd arrived safely. He's a fantastic host of a truly magical property. I only wish we'd booked for a longer stay!

  • Nice cottage in a lovely location. Plenty of good walks and wonderful scenery.

    Jeff2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Based on the reviews we’d read, we had pretty high expectations which were instantly exceeded on arrival. The cottage is beautiful. Richard had left us a box of home-grown veg, a bottle of wine and chocolates and the house was filled with vases of wildflowers. Quite the welcome. We spent a fortnight there and were lucky to have good weather so we could make the most of the garden. We saw rabbits, woodpeckers, grouse, and more birds and butterflies than you could possibly count. Really idyllic. The house was cosy and comfy and incredibly well stocked. The toys and books were appreciated by our two young kids. The surrounding area is utterly serene. We’ve come back feeling very refreshed and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this enchanting place to anyone.

    Phoebe2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Stonecrop definitely fulfills the description as a 'magical rural hideaway'. We loved everything about the cottage and it does indeed have a special feel about it. The character, quirkiness and homely extra touches make it a real find and we all felt immediately relaxed upon arrival, including two large teenage boys and our dog. Sunny kitchen, tea in the garden, cosy log fires and lovely walks straight from the door. The area is beautiful, perfect for exploring the Northern Pennines and Northumberland National Park, including Hadrian's Wall (our first visit). Many thanks for a wonderful stay in this gorgeous cottage - we were sad to leave at the end of the week but hope to return.

    Steven2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Richard and Emma are the perfect hosts who will do as much as possible to make your stay at Stonecrop a really special one. The cottage itself is gorgeous and the garden and surrounding countryside is beautiful. A perfect spot to get away from it all. All three generations in our family loved it

    Louise2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for perfection and peace and quiet, then Stonecrop is the place for you. Eals is a beautiful place and the setting is stunning. Also a great location for exploring Northumberland and Cumbria. The cottage has everything you need in it, and more, and lots of nice personal touches from Richard. Chocolates and wine and fresh flowers on arrival was particularly nice. The cottage has amazing character and you won’t be short of things to do, courtesy of Richard and everything he has made available to his guests, young and old. Our dogs absolutely loved the gardens and were sad to leave. We all were. Ten out of ten for everything. Fantastic few days. If you choose Stonecrop you will not be disappointed

  • Lovely location, and a beautifully decorated and finished cottage. Warm and cozy, and deceptively spacious. Had a brilliant long weekend.

    Liam2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 nights in this beautiful cottage. It was spotlessly clean, the beds were extremely comfortable and the property had everything we needed. We ate at the local pub the first night and the food was delicious. Our trips out took us to Hadrian's Wall, Keswick, Windermere and Ullswater. I would highly recommend staying in this relaxing property.

    Lisa2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage to stay in. There is so much room, the place was very clean and had everything you needed. With the fireplace in use it was all very cosy. Would absolutely come back again! Very close to hadrians wall and has a lot to do nearby. Thanks for a relaxing stay.

    Kirsty2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely house in a lovely location. We were up for a family party. Really wish we had longer. Although in Northumberland, you are placed in easy reach of Carlisle and all the historical places around there and most of Hadrian's Wall. My Mum couldn't find fault which is praise indeed!!!!!! Recommend the food at the pub two doors up. Two meals in there which were fantastic, and friendly staff. The kitchen had everything that you would need for a self catering holiday. If really felt like a home from home. Can't wait to book up again.

  • A beautiful cabin with a wonderful view. We had the most relaxing stay, the pod was sparkling clean and beautifully designed, the log burner was cosy and the decking and hot tub is lovely and private. Our host Sue even got in touch to say we could stay longer than the usual check out to shelter from the miserable weather! We will definitely book again.

  • Beautiful location and accommodation with friendly hosts. Loved getting out the city and into the middle of the country and the hot tub was a great wee bonus even in the middle of a storm! Hosts were so accommodating of our toddler and dog, providing a cot and high chair and making us all feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend!

  • This was truly one of our most memorable and amazing weekend breaks, one that won't be forgotten. Neil, thank you so so much for the hospitality you was amazing. We will definitely be back again soon. Can't speak highly enough about the experience. We will definitely be recommending you to others. Only thing I would say is the pictures you have online for the pods and the surrounding area do not do it justice at all. The pods are stunning, brilliantly designed and built and the perfect size. You truly feel like you're the only people there. And even though all the pods were occupied we didn't hear or see anyone else. Secluded and truly beautiful. Can't wait to come back

    Geraint2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING! Perfect for couples, really lovely local town with nice pubs! We loved it and can’t wait to return. Really easy going, friendly hosts who were more than happy to help with any problems. Can tell the hosts have worked really hard to create an amazing experience, highly recommend.

  • Paul & Andrea were fabulous & caring hosts with excellent local knowledge. Their comfy home is perfectly located in the heart of Brampton, a charming English country village that is just a short drive or train/bus trip to Hadrian’s Wall. The house is warm & welcoming, the beds are comfortable & the breakfasts were great! We loved walking into the village square, the farmers’ market, tea & scones at Mr Brown’s, drinks & dinner at Howard Arms & trying the local treat - Ullswater Pie - from Cranston’s!! A great stay in every respect. Thank you Brampton & thank you Paul & Andrea! :-)

  • We chose to stay with Andrea & Paul in their twin room on our stop through the area to see Hadrian's wall. Their home is in a lovely area and they offer an incredible value for a private room and bath, plus a hearty breakfast to get us off to a great start in the morning. Paul is engaging and friendly and gave us a great overview of the the history of the Roman era in England. Andrea is super responsive on Airbnb messenger and very accommodating. Everything was top notch and the Tunnocks tea cakes were such a treat, I had to buy several boxes for myself from the grocery store! The only thing I would mention is that if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, be aware that the host smokes. Thank you for a lovely stay!
