Sited for magnificent views over rolling farmland out to the Kaipara Harbour, this cosy old farm cottage has had a recent modern renovation. The cottage has four bedrooms and a large common area featuring an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area which spills outside through french doors to a large outdoor entertaining area complete with sunset views.
The cottage is located on a working farm but the section is fully fenced so safe for your young ones to run around and explore! Enjoy the peace and tranquility with no WIFI - turn off your cellphone and go complete no-technology if you wish! But if you do need to keep-in-touch with the outside world there is good cellphone reception at the cottage. The kitchen is fully equipped and features a fridge/freezer, full oven, microwave and a BBQ is available for your use.
Equidistance from three townships, we are 30 minutes away from hot pools, restaurants, cafes, banks, movie theatres and shopping. There is a small dairy, take-away shop, petrol station and liquor shop located in Kaukapakapa which is 15 minutes south of Mataia.
  • A perfect little slice of rural life. Beautiful sunsets and a lovely calm area.

    Kaipara Flats, Auckland, New Zealand

Escape to the country, total privacy, peace, tranquility within easy driving distance to Warkworth township. Fancy the sound of Moreporks calling at night, wood pigeons flying by, fantails flitting around you and tuis feeding on the flax and kowhai? Romantic bath house - light the candles and gas fire at night. Gorgeous barn with chandeliers and log burner. Quality king size bed. Great cooking facilities.
The Country Escape is unique because it provides full use of a large and beautifully converted barn next to very mature native trees, completely secluded only 45 minutes drive (if no traffic) from Auckland harbor bridge. Native birds frequently visit, a cheeky fantail sometimes comes inside. Tuis squabble in the flax flowers, and native wood pigeons fly overhead to the puriri trees.
Country Retreat is located 5 minutes from Kaipara Flats, a pretty historic village with a church, school, cricket grounds, sports club and historic butchery (display only) http://www.kaiparaflats.co.nz/ It is located between the Kaipara and Matakana coasts. The nearest supermarkets are in Warkworth 11 minutes drive, Countdown open 7am - 10pm, New World opens 7am to 9pm Shell, Mobil and BP service stations are open 24 hours
  • Tanias place is absolutely amazing, can't fault anything at all, can't wait to stay again, so peaceful and relaxing immersed in the sights and sounds of a tranquil setting. AAA+

    Ivan2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I just loved my time at my country retreat... It's off the beaten track (but only 15minutes from Warkworth), and the seclusion and quiet were ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all. The bed was comfy, the outdoor bath and shower was delightful, and there were lots of thoughtful little touches (fresh eggs) and tea light candles. I'd go back anytime. Remember, this is a rustic barn conversion so if the odd little country visitor (like a mouse or a weta) is going to ruin your day, it's not for you. It was certainly perfect for me - thank you Tania!

    Gillian2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location and a better stove than we have at home :-) plan to return in winter and make use the the log burner. Definitely recommend this place.

    Marie2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this place, so unique and thoughtful touches such as matakana coffee and free range eggs. Loved the outdoor bath and the compost toilet wasn't bad.

    Stephanie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks Tania for such a wonderful stay! The location was remote and quiet, and the house had all the amenities you would need for a weekend away. The outside bath was a highlight! Would stay again :-)

    lovely relaxing and peaceful lifestyle
  • Tracy’s place is surrounded with beautiful views . The living room is quite spacious . The communication was prompt. She suggested a couple of hikes and places of interest near by . There aren’t any restaurants or grocery shop close by . So one should pick up en route . Tracy had kept basic items for Tea n coffee which was quite handy . Her two dogs are very friendly . We enjoyed our stay . Thank you Tracy for hosting us. We would recommend her place to future guests . Regards Usha & Devesh

  • Tracey was a lovely host! It was a very relaxing stay - we read our books whilst enjoying a great view! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape the city life.

    Sophie2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy's place is located off the main road, in a beautiful location. It's a spotlessly clean annexe to her house, with fully equipped kitchen kitchen, diner, bedroom and excellent bathroom. Recommended.

    Ian2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Pics don't make justice to Tracy's place. With its cozy atmosphere, breathtaking views and lovely hosts, we'll definitely stay again.

  • Great little get away from the busy Auckland area. Situated on a farm with beautiful views of Kiapara Harbour from your back door. Children loved the cows grazing right at the house fence. The host was very friendly and made us feel welcome and even though the main house is right next door, privacy was never an issue. You get what you pay for and I can recommend it for people who want to get away from the City.

  • This accommodation is a dream :) Right in the nature, a very spacious flat, brilliant kitchen and bathroom and friendly hosts! We loved our time there and especially enjoyed our quick evening swim in the pool while watching the sun disappearing behind a hill ;) Thanks Roma and Graham!

    Maike2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the warm welcome from our hosts, the big sparkling clean swimming pool, rural views, top quality accommodation including comfortable beds and lounge, big kitchen and bathroom, quality linen and towels, generous tasty breakfast provisions including fresh eggs. Easy quick drive to Warkworth and lots of interesting sights and places to visit in the general area. Fabulous stay. Perfect.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Totara Bend. This place really did exceed our expectations. Definitely one of the best Air Bnb places we have stayed at. The service we received was outstanding!! Warm and friendly hospitality, Graham and Roma really know how to make you feel as if your part of the family. Beautiful spacious abode very clean and tidy with all the essentials. Property set up on huge 16 acres back drop , great panoramic views of mountains and NZ farm lands, Totara Bend has heaps of little pockets of treasures waiting to be discovered and If you love a little outdoor adventure this place will not disappoint. One of our highlights for sure was being able to view the night sky from the deck, seeing the stars blanket the mountains was so surreal and something you must do if you visit. This property is a short distance to all ammenities and stunning beaches. Totara Bend has so many hidden gems, would highly recommend this place to anyone that is wanting a little getaway. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks again Graham and Roma. We appreciate you both. Hoping to come back in the near future.

  • This place is a great place to stay! Lots of space, well-equipped kitchen, BBQ worked well, lovely bedroom, bed, patio and view. Graham and Roma were wonderful hosts. Enjoyed chatting with them and learning about their property as well as feeding the eels.

  • A Perfect Little Hideaway, The space was clean, bright, and comfortable. A very well set out kitchen area and large walk in shower. Perfectly situated in the rolling hills, with pine trees, but only 8mins away from Warkworth township. Really enjoyed meeting Drama, the bulldog, who revels in making new friends and is a very affectionate host but completely respects guest privacy and areas. Graham and Roma are also fantastic hosts, friendly, great conversationalists, and make everything available to guests; including the pool and vegetable garden. We stayed here for proximity to Matakana and Goat Island, straight from Auckland Airport, and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind, as well as provide access to nearby locations. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay north of Auckland.

    Daniel2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Graham & Roma's farmstay is outstanding, and so is their hospitality. The setting is beautiful and it's ideal for children 3 and up (with swimming pool, playhouse, swing, bushwalk, etc) and perfectly set up for couples as well (the accommodation is well appointed/new and the beds are super-comfy). And with doves in the trees, 'friendly' eels in the pond and the occasional friendly horse wandering through, it's a lovely place just to hang out. It's also a mere 8 minutes to Warkworth and another 10 minutes to Matakana, so it feels much more remote than it is. Our family adored it.

    Gary2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful rural setting, Graham and Roma are excellent hosts and make you feel really welcome. Really enjoyed our stay, especially the wonderful swimming pool and views!

    Kaipara Flats, Auckland, New Zealand

We welcome you to share our home, only an hour's drive from Auckland Airport and Whangarei. Our warm, single level home, is in a quiet location overlooking park and river. Peace and privacy, but only a short, 10 minute stroll into Warkworth township through the riverside park, and a 10 minute drive to Matakana.
Our house is suitable for those with limited mobility as, apart from a small front step, property is on a single level. Our shared bathroom has a stepless shower, and toilet handrail. There is also a seperate, second toilet. Guest room features a flexible slat queen size bed, with high-count cotton sheets. The bed is also fitted with an electric blanket. We additionally offer an Ikea single foldout bed, in a second room, for an extra person. We would also like to invite well socialised fur babies to stay, by arrangement. Our backyard is fully fenced, as we have 2 schnauzer/Jack Russell x dOgs, a large, slightly demented, Birman cat, and a fantail pigeon. There is a medium size crate available for use. NOTE: We have beehives on our property. Whilst the girls are normally placid, they can sting. Just to clarify, you will be sharing our home with us, and our fur babies. We are NOT a hotel, but we do offer you a comfortable homestay - just like visiting your favourite aunt. We live near bush, so there are bugs. Good news. They won't kill you. I do keep my house clean, but not to a 5 * hotel standard -I have better things to do. So, if you enjoy good company, and a friendly place to stay, with super friendly dogs, we look forward to your company, and will probably invite you to share a meal with us.
Warkworth Township is less than an hour's drive from Auckland. Several bus companies also service the town on their way north and south. We are blessed to be a gentle 10 minutes stroll into the town, where you can enjoy a riverside walk, village shops, and great cafes. Don't miss Chocolate Brown for homemade chocolates and fudge, and excellent coffee, or dining at the Wharf St Bistro - both within an easy walk. The wonderful Matakana Village is a mere 10 minutes drive, with it's famous Saturday market. Beaches, parks, vineyards, and fantastic outdoor activities all lie within a 30 minute radius. A great local bus service connects Warkworth with Matakana & Omaha, and Snells Beach and Algies Bay. This service also connects to Auckland, via the Silverdale Bus Hub. We may also be able to provide an airport transfer service (additional cost). Please contact us for details.
  • Carolyn and John are honest hosts and are very good company. They both go out of their way to ensure you have a great time. The house is lovely with commanding views of the river and a hot tub to relax in. The description of the property on the web sight is accurate and I would highly recommend the accommodation .

    edward2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Superb welcome from Carolyn and John. The bedroom is very large and overlooks the garden which is by the river. Very good and very rich breakfast with homemade products. Carolyn is a woman with a big heart and a great generosity. Many thanks to Carolyn for her hospitality and friendliness.

  • Carolyn is such a lovely host! She showed us her bee hives which was really fascinating. She also provided very detailed printed information about her house, pets, birds, and things to do in Warkworth which I enjoyed reading. Carolyn even prepared breakfast for us. The place is clean and homey with a relaxing backyard. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend anyone to stay at Carolyn’s home :)

We live in a comfortable family farmhouse. It is set amongst hills and rolling farmland. It is a fantastic place to relax and get away. If relaxing isn't your thing, we are 20 minutes from west coast beaches and 30 minutes from east coast beaches. We are 20 minutes to a delightful small town with cafes, shops, wineries, cinemas and markets. We are an hour from New Zealand's biggest city, Auckland, for more major tourist activities. We are also the gateway to Northland and all it has to offer.
Coffee, tea, fridge, kettle and microwave provided. Unlimited WIFI provided, but cell reception is limited due to location. Laundry facilities available for guests staying 3 nights or more. Limited kitchen facilities for cleaning purposes only. Outdoor patio space is available. BBQ usage upon request. We have loads of parking space and your own transport is a necessity due to our location. We have an old dog and an old cat who are part of the family, so not suitable for people with allergies.
We are in a quiet rural setting. It is picturesque and peaceful. Sometimes you get local colour with mobs of sheep or cows brought in by working dogs. There is not much nightlife other than brilliant stars in the night sky. A 20-30 drive in either direction will get you to any number of activities from beaches to shops to wineries to cinemas to various markets.
  • I enjoyed my stay tucked away in a beautiful nature scenery. Debbie and her husband were great hosts. I came for a festival at Atiu Creek National Park so the location was perfect for me.

Modern and tastefully decorated in a secluded back garden with plenty of native birds and just a short stroll to the picturesque village of Warkworth. So much to see and do in this part of New Zealand. Vineyards, cheese and honey factories, sculpture trails, the famous Matakana farmers markets, snorkeling at goat Island, taking a ferry to beautiful Kauwa island, bus tours to explore further afield to the far north, and just 40 minutes to Auckland. A light breakfast is available.

Mataia Homestead is an historical homestead located on a 1400ha unique combination of a working sheep and beef farm and private nature reserve on the beautiful Kaipara Harbour. Surrounded by 5 acres of beautiful gardens including large productive vegetable gardens and a heritage fruit orchard. Mataia is the perfect retreat for families and large groups wanting peace and quiet in a stunning rural location.
Wide sweeping lawns, large decks, covered verandahs, small nooks and crannys to tuck away in - Mataia has it all covered indoor and out. Snuggle up in the library with a good book, flex your fingers at the baby-grand paino in the music rooms, or just stretch out on the couch in the afternoon sun. The fully equipped kitchen features a full oven, microwave and dishwasher so you can cook up a storm during your stay. There is also a BBQ available for your use. In winter all beds are fitted with electric blankets and there is a very efficient wood burner in the main living area. There are 6 bedrooms (5 upstairs and 1 downstairs) sleeping up to 12 people in total, with two and a half bathrooms. Because of our low-lying rural location cellphone reception is weak, however WiFi is available. Please Note: during the months of April and May 2020 the lawns around the homestead will be getting re-contoured and re-grassed and will be roped off from access. The homestead will still be available for accommodation during this time at a discounted rate. Please enquire for details.
Equidistance from three townships, we are 30 minutes away from hot pools, restaurants, cafes, banks, movie theatres and shopping. There is a small dairy, take-away shop, and liquor shop located in Kaukapakapa which is 15 minutes south of Mataia.

Pear Tree Farm is a delightful retreat in Puhoi. Guests stay in an area of our house that is private and accessible by its own entry. The bedroom and private bathroom are for exclusive use of guests with tea and coffee making facilities in the shared laundry space. There is a selection of self serve cereals for breakfast and a microwave but no other cooking facilities are available. The shared laundry space is where hosts sometimes cross the hallway to access the garage.
The bedroom is spacious and has a ranchslider onto the patio where there is a quiet place to sit. It has a table for dining or working and a TV with Free-To-Air TV and free Netflix. Both rooms have double glazing. The large private bathroom has both shower and a spa bath so bring some bubbles! Our property is 8 acres at the top of a hill, on a private no exit road. It is very peaceful and quiet with views across bush and farmland to the sea. During your stay, you'll see chickens, sheep, and horses. No doubt one or both of the farm cats will introduce themselves to you and you may even meet our newest addition, Gertie the pig, who loves a cuddle.
A short drive to some lovely local attractions - the Puhoi Pub, the Puhoi Cheese Factory, Puhoi River Canoe Hire and beautiful scenic beaches and bush walks. Local beaches are less than a 10 minute drive. Easy access to Matakana and its Farmers Market and wineries. A great place to stay when you are travelling north of Auckland city or if you are wanting to stay in Puhoi for the weekend.
  • Amazing place - perfect!

  • Beautiful position with just the most lovely helpful host. We came in very early morning and Ian met us at the gate to let us in. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean Our Host even went to the trouble of putting down the block out blinds so we could sleep later. It was a delight to wake up and see the resident pig and cat outside our window. The view of horses and open paddocks was just lovely. We would recommend Pear Tree Farm to any weary traveler as a great place to stay.

  • Stunning rural setting and distant sea view 'hosting' a virtual menagerie of farm animals - horses, chickens, cats, and a pig called Gertie.... Fruit, cereals, and a selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available for breakfast. Well appointed and spacious bedroom and bathroom. Definitely recommend to those wanting a 'peaceful break away'.

  • Ginny's little place is truly magical. It's a real home away from home and the homemade jams really were a lovely touch. This place is so much better than the pictures!! On arrival Ginny bought us some fresh milk and was really friendly then she left us to our stay. Very private and you feel away from everything so it was the perfect trip for us. The pool area is amazing, we were gutted the weather was overcast so we couldn't enjoy it but we still sat around it for a while. The Hot tub is a gorgeous place to chill out and unwind!! This is an astonishing air bnb...don't miss out!!

Go here; when you are Lucky enough that you can book it

  • This is a little character gem in a character gem of a township. Made good use of the pool and the private outdoor deck set in the rustic cottage garden setting. It is obvious that our hosts aim to please with beautiful little details...... loved the homemade jam. Walking distance to the iconic Puhoi pub and village and a wonderful comfortable king bed. We highly rate this property.

  • We spent one night at Susannah's place and were very comfortable there. Our nearly 3 year old loved the outside playground and her and our 10 month old loved the trampoline and toys that were very kindly left out for them. It was very easy to find and broke up the journey from Bay of Islands to Auckland.

This upstairs room has a nice Futon bed and WIFI. The house has a rural setting, in Puhoi, near State Highway 1, just North of Auckland. The house sits in a big, park-like, garden and views onto the bush with the Te Araoha track from north to south NZ. We offer at the moment free broadbeans and tangelos from our garden and the chickens are laying every day free eggs for you. You can use the communal bathroom and modern kitchen. See you soon! Jan and Marleen
You can enjoy the views from the decks to bush or garden, listen to the tuis and owls or look at the stars and the milkeyway.
Our house is within close walking distance (800 metrs) from Puhoi historical village
  • If I could move in with Jan and Marleen I'd be the happiest person in New Zealand.

  • Such a wonderful stay! Our hosts were such a lovely, generous couple. We felt so welcome and at home. The house is very clean and nicely decorated. We were even given some eggs and bananas from their chickens and banana trees! Extra special touch. A lot of places to relax and read your book, whether that’s in the garden or on the deck area. Would love to stay again.

    Holly2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • We wanted to explore the Kaipara harbour area on our way north to the Hokianga. We selected this place in part for its location, far enough north to move us on but not so far north that we didn’t have time to explore on our day’s drive north from Auckland. It proved to be perfect in all respects. After a lovely bit of exploring over the western side of the harbour we made our way to Glorit and turned off the main road. The house is a short distance inland in an elevated position with expansive views over farmland and the harbour in the distance. A very relaxing environment. Enjoyed watching the changes in light as the sun set over the harbour and learned a lot in conversation with the friendly and hospitable hosts. We set off north next day after a beautifully quiet and comfortable night. An excellent option for staying in this area.

  • This is definitely off the beaten track but well worth the trip! I don’t think we’ve ever been anywhere so peaceful. No matter where you are in the house, the views are incredible! The sunset was the best I’ve seen in the North Island by far. Absolutely amazing touches in the home by Sharon 😊 a beautiful home and a lovely get away from the city! Thanks again Sharon 😊

    Annabel2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for an amazing stay Sharon. The kids loved the animals.

    Hayley2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • The view is top notch.

    Martin2019-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Perfectly positioned on a picturesque hillside, Sharon’s place is basic but very well presented. Located adjacent to the main house, it has a nice deck front and back and makes for a fantastic getaway, and base to explore the local area. Bear in mind there’s (at the time of writing) no WiFi in the property - although Sharon was offer the use of her phone to provide WiFi if needed. I’ve passed on some information about possible WiFi signal extension solutions from the main house, so this may change in the future. Regarding phone signal: You can get one bar of 3G on Spark in the living room window if you’re careful, and almost full signal on Vodafone 3G - so plan accordingly if you need to get online or make calls during your visit. The beds are comfortable and the shower is amazing - just be careful when setting the temperature, it takes a little patience and tweaking to get it stable but the ‘endless’ gas water heater makes it a real treat after a long day of exploring. Overall, I had a great time here - be sure to give advance notice of your arrival so Sharon can air out the house and get it ready for your arrival. We booked with less than an hours notice (thanks Sharon), but it would have been better to give more notice so the house could cool down with the windows open before we arrived. You’ll love the view!!

  • It is a fantastic stay at Matthew’s house. My son extremely enjoyed staying here, playing with and feeding the pig, chicken, ducks, cows and sheep. Matthew and his family are full of hospitality, teaching my son how to feed the animal, how to walk the dog, how their farm works and inviting us to join their weekend dinner. They raise one dog Tank and one cat Ghost, who have become my son’s friends before we left. Matthew’s farm is a ecosystem built by himself and his family, which is an amazing achievement. Matthew has a lot of knowledge about how to build and maintain the farm’s system. Matthew's son is very nice, accompany my son to walk and play around the farm. Two days stay is short. We of course love to go back if we have any chance to visit New Zealand again.

Erica and Keith are just the most lovely people and have a great balance of being helpful and gracious hosts whilst also maintaining their distance and respecting ones space. The environment they have created Is very special; if you are looking for being pampered/waited on/hot running water etc, go to a hotel. However if you want something intimate/romantic/truly unique and a top up of well beingness, then go stay at the Magnolia room. Erica and Keith, thank you so so much; we will be back soon!

Gaze out across the valley to the sea from this secluded home high up in the Puhoi Hills. Relax in a stylish modern bungalow and in summer enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast on the cantilevered deck while admiring the beautiful views. In winter the wood-burning fireplace makes this the perfect retreat for cosy weekends whatever the weather.
The cottage is recently built to a very high standard with good internet and mobile phone coverage. There is a TV and blue ray player, a barbecue area and kitchen with dishwasher, pyrolytic oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and Nespresso coffee machine. It is fully double glazed and has a wood burning stove. There are insect screens at some windows with sun blinds and black out blinds as well as curtains. A washing machine and tumble dryer are located in the bathroom for guest use. The bedroom has a king size bed and built in wardrobe. Bed linen and towels are provided.
This is a beautiful rural location but is only approximately an hour north of Auckland and the airport. Close to the pretty village of Puhoi, one of only two historic villages in New Zealand, this area has many wineries, Regional Parks and beaches. The black sand beaches of the west coast are also less than an hour's drive, while to the north is Matakana with its many attractions and activities. There's lots to explore nearby or just relax and enjoy the view.
  • Wow, this place is simply stunning! We chose it to complete our NZ tour as it is only an hour away from Auckland airport. It has the most spectacular view of any property we have ever stayed in and with a double aspect view from our bed it was heaven to wake up to. From our balcony we could see the lights of the city and even as far as the Coromandel peninsula as well as a view into the valley that has been reclaimed by our hosts into original bush to encourage birds to visit. Susan provided a very generous delicious breakfast and a cheese platter for when we arrived as well as a glass of wine to welcome us which was very much appreciated. The apartment is completely separate from the main house and very private. It has been decorated with great thought and style with lovely bedding, towels and beautiful kitchen equipment. The bathroom is gorgeous and luxurious with great products provided. We were only 5 mins drive down the hill to Puhoi which is an historic settler village that has remained largely intact. There is a small village store for most basics and a larger supermarket 20 mins drive away. We loved our stay here and would recommend it for anyone who wants peace and quiet with great views to relax and unwind. We hope to return someday if we ever visit Auckland again.

  • The best place to relex after a long flight, it is a wonderful place to be!!

    Tamara2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place and perfect spot for a nice getaway. Couldn’t fault the stay at all. Susan was very welcoming and helpful and made our stay that much better! Would definitely stay again and would recommend this place to anyone.

    Salesh2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Susan is a brilliant host and her place is amazing. We landed in Auckland and drove straight to hers. We love the finishes of her guest cottage inside and out. The view out is beautiful and quite other worldly. We look forward to the opportunity to stay at hers again on any future visit to New Zealand.

    Claire2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful cottage. It is situated in the grounds of the owners' main property and it has fantastic views to the south east towards the Coromandel Peninsula and all the coast in between. It is even possible to pick out the Auckland Sky Tower. The cottage has a wonderful balcony from which to soak in the view - we had dinner and breakfast on the balcony. The cottage is very well equipped and beautifully decorated. The curtains in particular add to the character of the place. The bathroom is excellent, especially the walk-in shower. The huge bed is very comfortable.

    Raymond2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's apartment is a wonderful place to stay while in the area. We have stayed at well over 30 Airbnb locations in a dozen countries and Susan's is among the very best. The privacy of the location, the beautiful views, and the comfortable living quarters made our stay memorable from the moment we walked, and we were continually finding thoughtful touches throughout. We would gladly have stayed longer.

    Mark2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Best Airbnb ever. Usually when planning a trip, you choose a location you want to visit, and you find an accommodation there. For Susan’s place, I highly recommend the opposite. You book her place, and then you explore the area around. I have stayed in more than 100 Airbnb’s and this is by far the best ever. The pricing is not cheap but trust me, it’s worth the value of what you are getting. The views are priceless, the finishing and quality of the house is immaculate and off the highest quality. You get better amenities than a 5 star hotel. Loccitane toiletries, Sheridan towels, Super high quality mattress. Branded washer, dryer, oven, microwave, tv etc... every detail has been carefully curated to ensure your holiday of the highest level. A welcome platter that includes croissants, cheese platter, ice cream, butter, bread, jam, milk, cold pressed orange juice, eggs, yoghurt, Lindt chocolates, cereals, chips. To TOP it off, susan was very friendly, pro active and made many recommendations for things to do. Highly recommended for couples who need that romantic quality getaway without bursting the Budget on a 5 star hotel suite

    Wayne2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Not enough kind things to say about this gorgeous cottage. All 5 star reviews are accurate and could not ask for more helpful hosts. An Oasis less than an hour outside Auckland. Would highly recommend Susan’s Cottage.

  • Peter and Kim were super welcoming, friendly and talkative hosts! Always asking if they could do something for us! The property is beautiful and quiet. Comfiest bed we had so far!

  • Wow, what a wonderfull stay at Peter's house. He is really a friendly and always helpful host. He explained the nature, served an excellent short black and took us to the top of his area. We enjoyed the time of talking and laughing together. Nevertheless, watching the sunrise was impressing. Thank you!!!

    Marcos2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Peter is a fantastic host! This was exactly what we needed as a family - relatively close to best beaches in the country, away from the city and in a tranquil location. Peter was also incredibly kind and patient with our daughters, so we would recommend this place for families with kids. The place is an affordable and very pleasant option for kiwis or international visitors. While we shared the kitchen and outdoor area, the bedrooms were very private. The house was spotless too! We would definitely consider staying at Peter's property again.

Orongo Point is a privately owned headland surrounded by the untouched waters of the Kaipara. Situated 20 mins from Wellsford SH1 or if you prefer the scenic SH16 drive from Auckland through Kaukapakapa, only 1 hour 10 mins. Orongo Point offers the ultimate getaway experience with 200 acres of private farmland and 3 kms of pristine forested coastline to explore, with access to its own private and magnificent white sandy beach.
Orongo Point bach provides simple kiwi style bach accommodation and is the perfect base to explore this amazing part of New Zealand. The bach is a rustic-styled, 2 bedroom timber hut with adjoining outdoor deck to enjoy the views of Lemon Tree Bay. Inside there is a master bedroom - with a luxurious queen size bed. The second bedroom offers bunk accommodation with two single beds. The kitchen is modern and well appointed with plenty of fridge space. Timber lining gives the bach a rustic, natural charm which is surrounded by a mature garden and fruit orchard. The interior decor is cosy, but contemporary. Soft furs and natural fibres add to the feeling of simple luxury. You are free to explore the coastline, beaches and farm at your leisure and enjoy the tranquility and remoteness this special piece of New Zealand has to offer.
Property History: The property itself has had a rich history. Initially belonging to local Maori, it was sold to the Queen in 1894 as part of the 1000 acre Kakaraea block. Following WWII the block was subdivided into its present form and gifted to a returning servicemen. During that time it operated as a sheep farm. On the coast to the east of Lemon Tree Bay you can still make out the ballast piles of the tall ships that used to anchor in the Kaipara at the turn of the century. At low tide you can make out two large posts - they are all that remains of the masts from a ship that sank there. In the 1970’s the US Marines built Run Road and lived on the property as they trained for the Vietnam War. As you look out to Moturemu Island you can still see the holes made by US cannons as they practised firing from Orongo Point. During the 1980’s it was converted into a deer farm (the deer shed half way up the main race is still there). Today as custodians of Orongo Point for future generations we have embarked on a major capital works programme in partnership with DOC (who are our neighbours and own the coastal forest where they are looking to reintroduce kiwis) and Auckland Regional Council to develop a sustainable, ecologically-friendly farming model providing coexistence of cows, bees, birds, fish and humans…... Your stay at Orongo Point helps us continue that journey. We hope you have a great stay and enjoy this special part of New Zealand. Have fun and relax to a slower pace of life. Around Tapora: Sand Island in Tapora is well worth a look if you are into bird watching, hiking, sand dunes and fishing. It is a favourite for locals. You can launch boats from the back beach around high tide (5metres and under) or use one of the three local boat ramps at Stables landing, Port Albert (down from the General Store) and Journeys End Boat Ramp. Old Man’s Nose (Orongo Point) as it is known by locals is a great fishing spot to the left of the back beach. You will see boats fishing there throughout summer. If you are in desperate need of civilisation we recommend the general store in Port Albert which is open every day except Tuesday for lunch/early dinner (8am to 7pm) as well as basic supplies. Great fish and chips and coffee. Further up the road is Wellsford and SH1 with all its amenities. Atiu creek is wort a visit too. It was gifted to the people of Auckland by Pierre and Jacqueline Chatelanat).
  • Simple place tucked away from it all. Bring your own towels and bed linens, and take away your trash an rubbish. These minor inconveniences are reflected in the low nightly rate. Screens on most of the windows kept the bugs out. Private beach was fun to explore at low tide; lots of oyster beds, so make sure to wear shoes! Got spotty 3g Vodafone service on front porch.

    Dave2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin is clean, very well appointed, a really effective big barbeque out on the covered verandah area. We knew what to expect being on a working farm- the dairy herd being moved, a bit of tractor work going on, stock nearby, and we enjoyed being amongst that. Peaceful, out of the way country area. The back beach is lovely , great to be able to drive down there on the farm race and down the paddock to the beach. Linda was quick to check that we were comfortable and is a great host. We will be back.

    Warren2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little spot, made even better having a private beach but do recommend beach shoes if you want to go for a walk around the beach due to sharp shells.

    Carla2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • You can see milky way in front of home, if weather allow. there are regional park near the house, You can also enjoy it. This places is absolutely private.

  • Amazing place! Despite some issues with the booking (from AirBnB, nothing of Linda’s fault), she responded quickly and let us check in on a 5 minute notice. The house was small but adorable, equipped with everything we needed – and the location is spectacular! Linda was an amazing host, and I can definitely recommend renting this place!

Pear Tree Farm is a delightful retreat in Puhoi. Guests stay in an area of our house that is private and accessible by its own entry. The two bedrooms and private bathroom are for exclusive use of guests with tea and coffee making facilities in the shared laundry space. There is a selection of self serve cereals for breakfast and a microwave but no other cooking facilities are available. The shared laundry space is where hosts sometimes cross the hallway to access the garage.
Each bedroom is spacious and has a ranchslider onto the patio where there is a quiet place to sit. The larger room has a table for dining or working and a TV with Free-To-Air TV and free Netflix. Both rooms have double glazing. The large private bathroom has both shower and a spa bath. Our property is 8 acres at the top of a hill, on a private no exit road. It is very peaceful and quiet with views across bush and farmland to the sea. During your stay, you'll see chickens, sheep and horses.

A delightful old cottage detached from our house, 2 x double bedrooms with modern ensuite, laundry facilities and small kitchenette with outdoor BBQ. Set on 1.2 hectors (3 acres) planted in pecan trees, it is a relaxing property with space to roam and feed the ducks if you wish! Light continental breakfast provided, as well as tea, coffee and local/handmade treats.
It is rare that we have more than one booking at a time so the entire space will usually be yours as it is fully detached from the main house. If you'd like to ensure it is exclusively yours, please book both rooms.
5 min north of Warkworth just off main north highway. Close to both coasts with beautiful white surf beach's 20 min away. Good cafe's, restaurants and great craft beers and cider nearby.
  • Charming cottage close to main house in lovely rural setting (horse riding across the road!) yet 5 minutes drive to Warkworth town centre. Maurie and Karen are wonderful welcoming hosts.

  • Lovely little house with everything you'd need for a short stay. The large outdoor space/garden is fantastic and our children just loved the whole stay.

  • Maurice and Karen are top-notch hosts! The guest house is beautiful, really comfy and the bedroom are spacious. There is a small kitchenette in the guest house, enough to prepare your breakfast (toaster + kettle + fridge). I didn't have the need but there is also a washing machine that you can use. The location is gorgeous and hearing the ducks in the morning was a real delight! Maurice and Karen were very welcoming and respectful and I really had the feeling I was visiting friends. If you want to visit the area, and if you are someone respectful, I highly recommend to stay here.

  • Maurice and Karen were delightful hosts who welcomed us into their space with recommendations and useful tips. The cottage is comfy and breakfast is great and plentiful. An easy drive to all of Omaha Bay and Kawau Bay's beautiful beaches, cafes and fish and chips. Lots to discover from here, wish we could stay longer!

    Sophie2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay with Maurice and was made to feel truly welcome there, these are 2 genuinely fantastic hosts and cannot recommend them and their property enough! The cottage is warm, comfy and well equipped with the kitchen area also offering a washer/dryer for use. It's separate from the main house so you can choose to be as social or private as you wish (I opted for the former and the great conversations). It offers a great base from which to explore the area or as a simple stop on a trip up/down from Northland. Thanks again for everything guys and hope to see you on any future visits to the area.

    Great farm experience.
  • A clean, basic and quiet place for a night. A great place for peaceful and star glazing in the wildness. Soundproofing between room can be an issue if the next room talks at night. And maybe the pillow is too flat, and the bed is too soft for my liking. All in all, a value and enjoyable place that I will come back again. Very decently place that one should try and appreciate the peaceful environment.

An “eco-oasis” in the township of Warkworth for you to relax and optionally learn new skills – sauerkraut/kimchi making, the benefits of probiotics, low/no sugar diet, organic produce, in a stylish bedroom and lounge accommodation with ensuite. Also, only 3kms/6minutes from the Warkworth Birthing Centre. Unfortunately, the garden area is not in full swing due to personal circumstances, but still a pleasure to walk around and explore.
Your hosts, Chris & Sabine, established their orchard and organic veggie gardens some 20 years ago. On their 2500m2 property, they keep chickens , there are ponds and beehives, and a flock of sheep next door. There are loads of tuis and fantails (piwakawaka) and some visiting wood pigeons (kereru), rosella and kaka. Your host's home is made entirely from macrocarpa harvested off the property. Chris & Sabine's lifestyle can be described as environmentally aware and committed to a healthy, meat-free (some fish) holistic – from the garden to the table – diet. Sauerkraut, kimchi, fruit leather, dried fruit and organic bread, (flour is milled on site from organic grains from the Hawkes Bay) are made on the premises and guests are welcome to learn how.
Warkworth is a bristling township situated 65kms (1 hour) north of Auckland. A further 7 minute drive takes you to Matakana with it's Farmers Market (Saturdays 7 – 1pm), cinemas, restaurants and bars. 10 minutes drive from Warkworth, you reach Snells Beach and the Brick Bay Winery and Sculpture Park. The closet ocean beach is Omaha and it takes you about 15 minutes to get there from Warkworth. 10 minute walk to the amazing, historic Warkworth Cement Works clean fresh water swimming lake, open to public and free of charge. 15 minutes from Puhoi (canoe river tours, historic hotel, bush walks Just to name a few attractions of the area: Wineries - Ascensio(URL HIDDEN)Brick Ba(URL HIDDEN)Mahurangi Estat(URL HIDDEN)Matakana Estat(URL HIDDEN)Duck Cree(URL HIDDEN)Hyperio(URL HIDDEN)Ranso(URL HIDDEN) Markets - Matakana Farmers Marke(URL HIDDEN) Matakana Country Par(URL HIDDEN) Puhoi Village Market Goat Island Marine Reserve Steam Boat Cruises "Jane Gifford" - historic scow cruises Restaurants - Plenty within walking distance Bars - Tahi Ba(URL HIDDEN)Bridge Hous(URL HIDDEN)Matakana House Supermarkets Gateway to Kawau Island (ferry service off Sandspit) WALKS:- Parry Kauri Park – 800 year old kauri tree with about 2kms of boardwalk through the bush to bird feeding observation platform. • Really nice little place, perfect for 1 or two people. Parking was easy and the check-in/out was very smooth. Chris and Sabrina were very friendly and offered some great tips on local things to do. Would recommend as a place to stay in the area.

We were welcomed by Sabina who made us feel at home and were delighted to be surrounded by fruit trees, which Chris helped us understand a bit more about. The bed was really comfy and breakfast was amazing. Really worth staying. Tks guys for everything.

  • This is exactly as described, ‘The good life’. Surrounded by native bush with a captivating view from the balcony and only a stones throw from the township and amenities, this is a special place to take a relaxing break.

Our guest house has been inspired by the classic American Arts & Crafts cabins of the 1920's. The perfect getaway from the city, just 45-60 mins drive north of Auckland and set on the park like grounds of our property. The guesthouse has it's own Finish sauna and log burning fire so it's a great weekend retreat to relax and unwind. Fully self contained with a modern kitchen and bathroom, the guest house enjoys views over the pond and out over the valley.
A unique rural cabin in a lovely country setting.
The guesthouse is situated in a quaint valley within an hours drive of Auckland, just 15 mins from the northern motorway and the historic village of Puhoi. There are a number of country walks, beaches, cafes, historic pubs and wineries all within 30 mins drive but most of our guests have enjoyed the privacy and seclusion of our cabin in the country, and have chosen to stay and relax for most of their visit.
  • This is such a beautiful place. It’s so cosy and inviting and it has a flair that made our stay totally unforgettable. We didn’t want to leave and even though it was spring we made use of the open fireplace and the sauna. The space was sparkling clean and had everything we needed to cook a delicious meal. I loved Greg’s dogs too when they came to greet us. What wonderful, gracious creatures ( and I am not even a dog lover). We could have stayed easily for a few more days to explore even more of the area as there is quite a bit to see and do.. hopefully we will be back

    Ravi2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little setting, nice timber smell throughout, private, amazing cooking facilities, stunning fireplace and a wonderful sauna. Lovely place to recharge

    James2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great, relaxing stay at the cabin. It is very peaceful with splendid scenery from every window. We drove to Matakana for the Saturday market, Snells beach for a walk, stocked up on nibbles at the Puhoi General Store. Also went to Sullivan’s Point, Scott’s Point and Wenderholm National Park. Lots more to explore in the wider area. It was great to come home and get the fire going in the evenings. An ideal get away from Auckland and a pleasant alternative to a coastal stay.

    Nicole2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome spot. Very much a 'cabin in the woods'. Cosy. Charming. Character. Loved the fire. And the sauna.
