Our beautiful camping pod sleeps 2 adults comfortably but could sleep 3 adults or 2 plus 2 young children. Based on our working farm with panoramic views of local fells and Skiddaw. Birdwatching tarn and Hide opposite. electric points and lights
Included in the stay is the pod with electric sockets and lights, oil fired radiator, carpet, black out curtains, outside is a designated parking space, picnic bench, storage box with shelf to cook on and fire pit. We do not supply any bedding, you need to bring your own. In 2017 we added purpose built toilet and shower facilities to our site, they are bright and clean, with underfloor heating and very well presented, in here there is also laundry facilities (coin operated) a washing up area and fridge. This is opposite the pod and are shared with our other guests. We also have a campsite and safari tent in the same area as the pod but we hope all are placed to give each guest space. We have a games room with pool table, darts, x box and table football There are fold out foam chair mattresses included inside the pod to sleep on. Guests have access to our WiFi but due to our location this is not a super fast connection but comes from a mobile connection and so can be very slow at times, for general internet browsing it is fine but you will not be able to stream music and TV.
The pod is on our working farm, we have free range laying hens. We also have pigmy goats, alpaca's and miniature shetland ponies. We are 5 miles from the lovely market town of cockermouth and 15 miles from Keswick, both with excellent choices in restaurants, pubs and cafes.
  • Really well placed in the hills near cockermouth. Nicely situated near lake and wildlife. Warm n cosy on an evening. Great shower facilities and other essentials.

  • Me and my partner had a lovely stay here this weekend. The setting is just perfect, with lots of fab scenery. The camping pod is spacious, nicely warmed by the heater, and in a very relaxed spot! We loved that it was on the site of a working farm where you can buy local goods, and there is bird watching and a games room too!

    Abbi2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay in the pod, such a beautiful location, peaceful and away from it all. Toilets/shower facilities were amazing, super clean and such a powerful shower! We'll definitely be back - perhaps in the summer when its a little less windy and rainy!

  • Great value and amazing location for exploring the Lake District. We were so impressed with the camping pod, and the facilities around it. The bird sanctuary was an excellent highlight along with the very clean and well heated toilet / shower block. One of the be at showers I’ve ever had, very hot with great pressure. Will be coming back again!

    James2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The pod is great: it kept us warm and cosy even as a storm was raging outside! The facilities here are perfect. The shower block is warm and sparkling clean. Furthermore, having such an amazing array of birds and farm animals around was really unique and interesting. Marion is a lovely home at and made us feel very welcome.

  • We had a wonderful time. The word "cozy" gets thrown around a lot, but it really applies here, much hygge for the other nordics. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and make you feel very welcome. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • Donna’s place is great value and ideally located to get to anywhere in the lakes. We stayed two nights and went up Scafell Pike on our full day and had a blast. The kitchen is well equipped if you’re in to eating in. The place is cosy and comfortable. Donna is friendly and very responsive to messages and easy to contact 😊

  • We’ve just arrived home from our lovely stay in Bothel. The flat was ideal for a few days stay and had everything you could need. The hosts were excellent and were on hand with anything we needed. There was also lots of privacy which was great. We took our young puppy who loved the enclosed outdoor space! Thanks so much much, we would highly recommend a stay here. Roisin

  • Very clean stylish apartment. Breakfast basket was a nice touch. So thankful for being seen to within 20minutes of booking as I had arrived at a different property I didn’t like. As I’m working away this was much appreciated as didn’t know what I would’ve done otherwise.

    Ryan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The flat was lovely and clean and a perfect location for exploring the lakes with a bus stop at the end of the road into Keswick. The wine and breakfast basket was a lovely extra touch. If you dont fancy travelling far there is a pub in walking distance round the corner which serves some lovely food or is great for a drink after a long walk. We would definitely recommend staying here and we hope to be back again soon!

  • My girlfriend & I spent 3 nights at Pat's place in early February and it was the ideal base for our short walking break. The flat is located in a small village with car parking right outside on a quiet road. It's only a 15 minute drive from Sainsbury's supermarket in Cockermouth, and about 20 minutes from Keswick. Despite getting battered by wet & windy weather on our last night, the flat was really warm & cosy and had everything we needed for a comfortable, quiet stay. The kitchen is well appointed and we were able to prepare our own meals with no trouble. Pat is a really friendly & helpful host, and we would highly recommend a stay here—we'll definitely be back again. Thanks a lot!

    Tom2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in Pat’s apartment. The location was perfect, close to the lakes and Carlisle, which was exactly what we needed. The apartment was spotless, with nice little welcoming touches- and nothing was too much hassle... from an earlier check in, to a high chair, to even explaining about the local Bus services. Would highly recommend staying here... such a great find and brilliant value for money!

    Claire2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little flat with everything you could need. We were pleasantly surprised that a breakfast of croissants and cereal was left for us. Pat was extremely kind and let us swop our booking when something came up which was lovely. The location is great for the north lakes and Cumbrian Coast and we fit in a lovely visit to St Bees. Dog friendly and Great value for money with lovely hosts. We will definitely recommend to others.

    Helen2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Pat & Geoff are so welcoming & the accommodation so clean, well appointed & convenient. This is our second visit & was just as remembered. Lovely welcoming touches & fab tips for things to do / see. Bus to Cockermouth or Carlisle stops almost outside the front door & is a great way to get about when you’ve had enough of driving! Fab shops & all amenities in Wigton too! We’ll be back!

Garden Cottage is a lovely converted barn attached to Catlands Foot Farm tucked away on the hillside with views across to the Galloway Hills, Scotland. Just outside the Lake District National Park but within a 30 minute drive of Keswick you get the best of both worlds of exploring the attractions of the Northen Lake District and the Solway Coast with its quaint seaside towns. With plenty of short walks available from the cottage there is a no better place to relax and unwind. Pet friendly.
Catlands Foot Farm is our family home. We chose Catlands Foot Farm for its location. From the garden you can see the Scottish Galloway hills on a clear day. Catlands Foot Farm is no longer a working farm and the adjacent barns have been converted and sold off. Attached to our house is Garden Cottage which was originally a barn renovated and converted into delightful cottage around 2002 and recently re-decorated by us. Garden Cottage has its own small garden but we are happy for guests to use any of our gardens and adjoining field. Garden Cottage has 1 bedroom which is upstairs and can be set up as either a super kingsize bed or as twin single beds. There is also a small double sofa bed which is in the lounge (suitable for two small adults or one large adult - can bring own extra bed/air bed if you prefer). The bathroom is located halfway up the stairs and has a toilet, sink and a shower, there is no bath. The kitchen has a small dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer and an electric cooker with a double oven. The dining room has a table that can seat four people. The lounge has a TV with DVD player. Wifi is available but can be a little slow at times. Dogs are welcome but please do not allow them in the bedroom.
The surrounding area is mainly fields which graze cows and sheep. Our house is the last one before the unmade road which means only farm traffic and the odd lost motorist pass by. There is a public footpath running from the property and plenty of other public footpaths running off from our road so the property is ideal for local short walks. Our favourite is a 15 minute walk to the top of the quarry where you can almost see between 10 and 15 miles in all directions.
  • Really nice place to stay, Stuart was an excellent host

  • A lovely place, in a peaceful location, with a very helpful host.

  • Lovely little cottage with all facilities we needed available for us. Perfect for three of us, with our son on futon in lounge and husband and I in massive bed in upstairs bedroom. The cottage is over quite a few different levels. We arrived in the dark on a January evening and found the lane ok but a bit bumpy and narrow. Much easier to get out the next day in the daylight. It took us 45 minutes to get to Keswick, a lovely scenic drive. Easy access to Northern Lakes and many walks up the beautiful fells. We would love to make a return visit.

    Anne2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We met Stuart on our arrival, he was very pleasant, friendly and polite Chap, Nothing was ever going to be to much trouble for Stuart, although there was a welcome pack we had forgot our tea bags I asked Stuart if he could provide a couple more tea bags until we could go to the shops the next day, within a minute a knock on the door there was Stuart with an handful of tea bags and a smile (and a party hat ) we had interrupted a family get together/party but he still brought tea bags Thank you. The cottage was just perfect for us it was clean, warm, cosy, quiet and very relaxing atmosphere, the bed was unbelievably comfortable and Huge, every amenity was there for the guest's and outside was literally a breath of fresh air with fantastic sights and walks. overall a great few days away for myself and Lynn, with us both promising ourselves that we would return in the summer. so 10 out of 10 for us, and for Stuarts understanding and response to my txt yesterday Thank you again because of your reply we had a safe and more pleasant journey home I will highley recommend Garden Cottage @ Catlands Foot Farm. Thank you.......i am so glad i copied the above text because i inadvertently sent it to Stuart lol ah well

Our cedar wood lodge has been designed and built for our family and friends to use when they visit. It is in a rural setting about 4 miles outside the market town of Cockermouth but is actually located in the Lake District National Park with stunning views over the fells, Skiddaw, Bassenthwaite Lake and Keswick. The lodge has been designed to make the most of those idyllic views and is a retreat for anyone wanting to relax, unwind and enjoy our “world Heritage” status.
The lodge is set in one of the most beautiful places in the country, on a working dairy farm, and we are privileged to call it our family home. The space is all on one level with four steps leading up to the main entrance. There are large sliding glass doors in both the living space and bedroom to maximize the fabulous views. They open up onto the bespoke decking where tables and seating are located. It is open-plan living with a large bedroom and en suite bathroom. The beds can be arranged as 2 singles or pushed together to create a super-king on request. It is detached and set privately away from the main house with its own entrance, garden and car park facilities. There is wrap around decking on two sides with a seating area on the scenic side to allow you to soak up the amazing views. The en-suite has a free standing shower as well as a separate bathtub for a good soak after a days hiking. The main living area has a beautiful shaker style kitchen with a table and 4 chairs. The comfy sofa and armchair are all situated to make the most of the outstanding scenery surrounding the lodge too. You will love it. We do!
The lodge is located in Isel which is a hamlet mainly made up of farms and small holdings. It is within the boundary of our family farm "Long Close". Our family have farmed this land for 100 years and would be more than happy to show you the walks through the farmland or answer any questions you may have about how we farm it. The towns of both Keswick and Cockermouth are within a 10-20 minute drive and have lots to offer including cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs. There are some wonderful walks and wildlife close by too.
  • This was the perfect place ever! Lodge was perfect and Mandy was an amazing host. The location was to die for, sheep everywhere, so quiet, rural, beautiful!!! The lodge has everything we needed and was clean and pretty and spacious and perfect for a couple. The location was easy to find by car and it was really close to lots of lakes and nature walks etc!!! Also a 10 min drive from Cockermouth (great fish and chips, coffee shops, cake, lots of supermarkets, restaurants and pubs, river walk) and a 15 min drive from Keswick (same things but very cute also and a lovely lake nature walk too). Overall it was 10/10 and we definitely will be back!!! X

    Kat2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Mandy's place was absolutely lovely. She was extremely informative and caring, excellent host helping us make the most out of our holiday. The location was quite secluded which suited us perfectly and wasn't too far from shops if we needed anything. Her local knowledge meant we had the best day having a lovely walk along the River arriving at the Lakes Distillery, which was a lovely meal and tasting experience. Definitely would go here again.

    James2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Cedar Wood Lodge and you will too! The photos don’t do justice to the amazing views. It was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed and everything you need for a great stay. Keep an eye out for the sheep, hares, rabbits and pheasants in the fields. The lodge feels in the middle of nowhere which is great for relaxing, but it’s only a short drive to local towns for eating, drinking and shopping. Mandy is a lovely host.

    Warren2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful space to spend a luxury stay in this beautiful part of our great country. Waking up to the spectacular views of the Cumbrian Mountains and Lakes is something you wont forget. We were even treated to wild Hares chasing each other about in front of the cabin. This is a great base, from which to explore the lakes and hills, or for walking trips. There are a number of eateries within a 20 minute drive if required.

    Rob2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough stars to rate Mandy, her family and the lodge. Absolute perfection. Thank you so much, we will be back! Xxx

    Karen2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • One of the best stays if you are looking to get out of the city and surround yourself with beautiful fields and mountains. The lodge itself was very modern and cosy. Would recommend this stay to anyone and everyone!

    Daniyal2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Although we approached the host Mandy with a last minute enquiry we were able to stay in this amazing place. The check-in went super quick and uncomplicated as well as the Check-out. The lodge itself is located a bit outside of Couckermouth with a beautiful view on the Lake District. Inside it is lovingly equipped with everything you would ever need and more. And especially the small caring details placed by the host made us feel like home from the first second on. So altogether the place is perfect to spend a great time in the nature and to recover from the day-to-day life.

    Silas2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at this lodge, and although two years later the lodge still looks and feels as new as it did in 2018. The lodge is in the perfect location between Cockermouth and Keswick yet is rural enough to be in the middle of nowhere. It's absolutely fantastic with the ever-changing views across the mountain range, regardless of the weather, the view from the sofa is stunning. We ended our perfect stay this time lying in bed listening to the howling wind and raging rain pounding the outside of this perfectly warm and cosey lodge. Mandy is the perfect host who is always at the end of the phone if required and offers great advice and communication. Again, I would love to keep this place a secret but it would be unfair not to share it. Mandy gets a lot of bookings for this lodge but because of its cleanliness and decor, you will always think you are the first. Five stars all round.

  • A quiet cosy retreat! Absolutely loved our weekend at the Grooms cottage, Debs is an amazing host and always goes the extra mile to ensure your trip is memorable. We stayed to celebrate my partners birthday and Debs arranged extras such as roses and cake. The cottage is cute and cosy if your looking for a couples retreat away or just wanting a base camp if your going on walks. I would definitely recommend the Grooms cottage and look forward to our next trip!

  • We really enjoyed our two night stay in Groom's Cottage. It had everything we needed for a relaxing few days away. Debs was a great host - providing quick responses and some yummy goodies for us on arrival. The cottage is cosily and stylishly decorated throughout. It's small but well thought out providing us with all the space we needed. The log burning fire and smart tv were nice bonuses which we enjoyed using instead of braving the wet February weather! The kitchen is also well equipped. A must go to is Mae's tearooms a 5 minute walk away. Very welcoming and tasty food. Thanks Debs - we'd definitely come again.

It is in an excellent location, quiet and tucked away but within minutes of the main road and also great access to lots of fantastic walks in the area. We will definitely return!

  • The Hayloft is a lovely flat - warm, comfortable, and well equipped. The shower is fast and can be set pretty hot, and the sofas are very comfortable, both of which factors are very welcome after a day's hiking. There's a key-safe for the door key so, when I turned up late, I could let myself in without having to bother anybody. Julie and her partner are excelent hosts: friendly, helpful, and quick on communications. Definitely a good place to stay!

Romantic Stable Cottage "Just for two" Dog Friendly cosy cottage appealing to guests who require the peacefulness of the countryside, but close enough to the lake district for all the activities. Newly refurbished in October 2016, adding to the comfort of our guests.
This traditional cottage built in 1748, converted from what was once a stable and 2 ale houses in the 1800's offers beautifully appointed and cosy accommodation for two, has a lounge/diner, with newly fitted log burner, newly fitted kitchen, newly fitted double shower room and spacious beamed bedroom. Note : The stairs to the bedroom are VERY steep so the property is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties. The cottage was built in 1748 so space is at a premium. The rental includes all electricity, heating, including 1 basket of logs for the stove, linen, towels and a welcome pack.
The cottage is set in the small hamlet of Wardhall in the countryside outside Cockermouth. We have lovely views in all directions including a view over the Solway Firth. The locals are very friendly and there are loads of things to do within a short drive of the cottage.
  • Cosy cottage with a lot of character and a warm welcome

A listed, rustic manor/farm with rich history dating back to C14 set in 10 acres. Quirky, comfortable and welcoming. Ideal for lovers of history, nature and art, those part of a hike or cycling holiday or needing a few days away to unwind in the countryside. Offering a private historic double room, Georgian dining room and C17 pannelled lounge. Kitchen / bathroom are shared. Guests get priority to the bathroom. Secure store for bikes.
Welcome to Hayton Castle, nestled between the Lake District National Park (6 miles away) and the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (2 miles away). We are happy to offer you accommodaton with us and to enjoy the history of the house as well as the 10 acres of grounds including flower garden, orchard, woodland and meadow (complete with rescue ducks, chickens, pigs, cat and dog!). Some of the castles history can be found on Wikipedia. It has a rich and interesting story. Your room is in the spot where Mary Queen of Scots slept! The castle would be best described as a rustic old farmhouse. Its is full of quirky features, wonky walls and idiosyncacies. Staying here is comfortable and welcoming and people always comment on how the house has a 'good feeling'. However it would not suit those looking for a 'boutique hotel' atmosphere. We are ideal for lovers of history, nature and art. The location is ideal for cycling or walking holidays or those just wanting some quiet time. We hope you like the sound of the castle and look forward to meeting interesting travellers! :)
On the Solway Cycle Route! Close to the coastal AONB as well as a long walk / short drive to the Northern Lake District. There is a small shop in the village (2 min walk) to buy essentials and larger supermarket / local store 3 miles away. Perfect situation to expolore more varied areas of Cumbria as well as the usual Lake District tourist hotspots! Western Lakes and the Solway are much quieter and more peaceful.
  • Totally Magic people, and peaceful place ,huge history and presence and nature .

    Tom2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing place. The home has such wonderful history and charm. The host is welcoming and communicative. Gave us a wonderful tour with all the history. There was a warm fire to share in the kitchen, amazing permaculture garden, woodland, pigs. Perfect stay with wonderful people.

    Jessie2019-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had a lovely time staying at Hayton Castle and can't wait to come back! The house is situated in scenic farmland in a tiny village near the lakes. Upon arrival, Steven met us and showed us around. The house is beautifully decorated in a way that complements the original features while creating an informal, bohemian air that makes guests feel immediately at home. One of the best things about our stay at Hayton was how kind, friendly and interesting Steven and his friends were. We really enjoyed getting to know them, and the various rescue animals and pets! We can't wait to book another visit and would recommend Hayton Castle to anyone.

    Claudia2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • You couldn't ask for nicer hosts, and the castle is beautiful. We'll definitely be staying here again if we come back to the lake district!

  • Christina’s lovely cottage was the perfect place for us to retreat to after a very wet and windy day out! The space was really lovely, a home from home with great amenities and lovely touches. Nothing was too much trouble for Christina and she was available if we needed her. She is very knowledgeable and interested in her local area and we went to some beautiful places on her recommendation. The house is quiet and peaceful but not far to local pubs/ villages and towns. It is spotlessly clean, beautifully presented and homely and they welcomed us so warmly. It felt such a relaxing, warm and comfortable place to stay. Many thanks Christina and Jeff, we look forward to visiting you again (but not during storm Dennis!!)

    Grace2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, lovely cottage & very friendly hosts. What more can I say, we loved our stay here. We will be back

    Sarge2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely couple of days at Christina and Jeff’s cottage. They were there to greet us and gave us a warm welcome. Everything we needed was there at the cottage and it gave us the break we needed. We felt as though we really got away from everything - and yet we were a short walk from the Lakes Distillery (highly recommended!) and an even shorter drive from Cockermouth and Keswick. We hope to return!

    Kath2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy cottage in a very quiet area, with lovely views. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

    Patricia2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect getaway! in the middle of no where, the view of the local fell/mountain greets you from the bedroom window in the morning. Sheep in the field below. The fresh air was invigorating. This house was a perfect place to base our holiday away. We had a warm welcome from Christina's husband who show us the essentials. He gave us some ideas of places to visit. The house was clean and tidy and welcoming. We will come back! If you get a chance visit the Lakes Distillery and the Alpacas' which are only a mile away! Borrowmere is a lovely low impact walk. The town of Cockamouth has more charm than Keswick.

    Mike2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Just perfect!! A warm welcome from Christina and Jeff who settled us in with lots of local tips and info. Their cottage is so comfortable and well equipped. Mix of modern and traditional with a log burner, WiFi and lots of info, maps and beautiful books etc. 20’ walk down to lakes distillery. We enjoyed a fab meal in the local wheatsheath pub in Embleton. Can’t wait to return.

    Wendy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jeff and Christina’s cottage is really cosy and thoughtfully presented with some personal touches such as dog treats and local maps and information. Their personal welcome helped us feel right at home from home. There’s good facilities, everything we needed for a long weekend and more, comfy beds, modern bathroom and all in a quite but accessible location. We definitely consider their cottage again for our next trip to Lakes.

    Richard2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

  • The Bothy was absolutely fantastic - a beautiful space with a lot of character in a perfect location for exploring the Lake District. The woodwork and furniture throughout the house especially adds a really nice feel. In particular Kim was an amazing host - really accommodating and understanding when we unexpectedly had to change our plans due to a walking accident and check out later than anticipated, which was greatly appreciated. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need, and there are some lovely pubs and places to eat close by. Really can't fault our stay - we will be back soon.

  • Kim’s place was in an ideal location for our stay. Kim was a great host, and replied quickly to any queries. The place is beautifully fitted out and has all the equipment you’d need. There is everything you could possibly need in terms of toiletries , cleaning products and kitchen utensils. If you are wondering whether you need to pack something- you probably don’t with this place. And The fire is such a perfect feature , highly recommend.

  • Michaels cottage is such a rare find! It’s honestly beautiful and creates such a nice environment to come back to and relax. Especially if you have some cold weather and you light a fire, it’s a very calming space. It’s decorated beautifully and although the cottage isn’t huge the space is great and is well equipped for any stay. I think it’s definitely a must if you’re travelling within the Lake District.

Little Byre is a charming nineteenth century two bedroom cottage, tucked away in Baggrow, a traditional English hamlet in north Cumbria, just outside the Lake District National Park. A stay here offers the best of both worlds: a haven of peace and tranquillity where you can simply relax but close enough to access all the honeypot attractions of the northern Lake District, whilst also being a short drive from exploring all the Solway coast has to offer with its quaint seaside towns.
Little Byre has been furnished to the highest of standards. Downstairs there is a living/dining room and kitchen. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, a master with king-size bed and a single bedroom as well as a family bathroom. The living room has a large flat-screen TV and DVD player. Quality oak furniture and soft leather furnishings complement the charm of this traditional Cumbrian cottage. There is a dining table which will comfortably seat four people. A cast-iron, living flame gas fire is very welcome on those cooler evenings, along with a range of books, games and jigsaws for you to while away the hours. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your needs. It includes an electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a washing machine plus a fantastic view across the fields towards Skiddaw. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom is beautifully fitted out with solid ash furniture. The king-size bed has sumptuous cream and red Egyptian cotton bedding. The large wardrobe and six-drawer dresser provides ample storage for all your clothes. The rear bedroom with its pine furniture enjoys beautiful views across the Caldbeck fells towards Skiddaw. Besides the comfortable single bed, there is a wardrobe and a large chest of drawers. Outside, a small, south-facing, enclosed terrace with patio table and chairs provides a place to unwind and let all the stresses and strains drain away as you just sit and take in the view.
The towns of Keswick, Cockermouth, Silloth and Allonby are just a 20 minute drive away, offering a range of local shops, art galleries, museums, markets, theatres and plenty of pubs and eating places. This is the perfect area to choose for either gentle relaxation with walks from the door or for an action packed adventure holiday with lots to do. Go-Ape High Wire Forest Adventure, Honister Via Ferrata, gyroplanes, paragliding, canoeing, sailing and a full range of outdoor adventure activities are all on offer within a 20 min drive. Walkers, climbers and cyclists are spoiled for choice. From the high summits to forest trails and lakeside paths, there are walking and cycle routes suitable for all.

Grooms Cottage - Fabulous newly renovated and quirky upside-down cottage with Solway Sunsets and views to die for... Just a 10 minute drive takes you to the Solway Heritage Coast - Roman remains, coastal walks, long deserted sandy beaches, sand dunes and best ever ice cream! 10 minutes in the opposite direction takes you to the Lake District National Park - fells, lakes, hills, walks, villages...
Grooms Cottage was built in 1806 as the stable block for the main house. It is recently renovated and is fully equipped. The living accommodation is upstairs (open plan wooden stairs) - to give you spectacular views across the Solway. The double and twin bedrooms are on the ground level along with the bathroom. The bathroom has a walk in shower (step down) and a washing machine - no bath. The garden space is around the back of the cottage - garden furniture is provided. The double bedroom has doors opening to the garden and upstairs there are doors to a small balcony and stairs to the garden. The cottage is decorated with both contemporary and traditional artworks from Africa. The rent includes bedding, linen, towels, heating, logs for wood burner - just bring personal items, food and drink!
This is a quiet village, sadly no pub within a mile but there is are two within just a mile and half away. One in Plumbland - The Last Man Inn, and one in Gilcrux village - The Masons Arms. Otherwise many pubs and eateries within a 5 minute drive or so. There are lots of circular walking/jogging/dog walking routes from the cottage. I leave details for you. Holly Lodge is the main house (sleeps 10) but the overall space is private and quiet.
  • Lovely cottage to stay in! Great location, cosy relaxing and fantastic views! The cottage was warm and had everything we needed, perfect! Great hosts who also gave us some good information on what to do and where to go. We appreciated the little touches that were there on arrival...milk in the fridge, tea and coffee, firefighters and logs for the burner ready to go! There was plenty of everything including toiletries. We would definitely book again and I have already recommended this place to my parents!

    Nicole2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was stylishly decorated with kitchen on first floor and the both bedroom on the ground floor. There was a amazing outside sitting area with lots of private space to explore. The place was decently clean and well maintained for a 200 year old cottage. It was nice to find some tea , milk , ginger cookies and other cooking essentials well stocked in the cottage. For the location , my family loved it as it has beautiful views and we love peace. Please note there is nothing at walking distance but by car everything is accessible in less than 10 minutes. The village location was good with quick connectivity with Lake as well as to the sea side. We had some confusion with the check-in but it was sorted out and the host very responsive and helpful and agreed to improve it for next guest. Overall , amazing cottage , very nice host , highly recommended for short as well as longer stays.

  • An excellent house and a wonderful host. Thank you very much

    Neil2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • You get what you see! The garden is beautiful. The location allows fast access to the Western Lakes and the beautiful coastline. The fireplace - if needed - adds a nice cosy touch. Having the kitchen on the upper floor needs a bit of getting used to, and then it’s fab. All in all, great as a home away from home.

    Jessica2018-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely spaceous cottage in a great location to explore both the lakes and the solway coast, as well as further inland - we had a nice trip to Hadrian's wall which was easily reached. recommended

    Hayley2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Dianne's place. The cottage was as described, the décor was lovely and a little bit quirky. Everything we needed for our stay was available and the cottage was really well equipped. The location is very rural which we enjoyed, the peace and quiet was wonderful. We loved the fact that the location meant we were 20 minutes from the coast and 20 minutes from the lakes. We did lots of lovely day trips, there's great walking, mountain biking, cycling and water sports within a very short journey of the cottage. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Dianne's cottage.

    Karoline2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely peaceful location. Cottage was really spacious everything you need. Dianne was easy to communicate with and made us very welcome. Left milk and biscuits with was a nice touch after a long drive. Views & sunsets are amazing. Close to coast and easy drive to the lakes. Lovely walk around Buttermere Lake & nice meal in the pub there. Would recommend Diannes place for couples and families with older children.

As well as your own double bedroom and shared bathroom you will have a cosy snug with a wood burner and TV to plan your next days adventure. I can cater for any dietary requirements, with notice. Lovely garden with fell views.
Friendly dogs welcome,I have a very sociable border collie. Please ask if you would like to bring more than 1 dog,we can discuss. Ireby is a small village nestling on the edge of the Northern fells with a pub serving food and real ales. I have lived here for many years and as a keen fell walker myself can recommend walking routes and have maps available if required.
Ireby is a traditional working Cumbria village, very quiet and unspoilt by tourism. We are very lucky to have a great pub and the next village 1 mile away also has a great pub and tea room and art gallery. All allow dogs inside.
  • You will miss out on a great stay if you pass up on isabell’s place, her local knowledge of the lakes district was hugely helpful, and her breakfast was amazing

  • Izzy was a lovely Host and very knowledgable of the area which helps us as we were hiking. Very accommodating to our two little dogs. Lovely clean, spacious and cosy house. Great little pub 1 minute down the road. Izzy also cools a fantastic full English brekkie and good coffee

  • Isobel was a kind and hospitable host, she was accommodating with our check-in, and made sure we felt at home with her and her charming dog. We would love to go back.

    Vlad2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We felt really welcomed by Izzy, the rooms were clean and comfortable, she made us a delicious breakfast every morning and gave us great local tips on where to go and where we could find free parking. 10/10!

    Ronan2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay close the the Lake District with a wonderful host. Isobel greeted us, and gave us a thorough walkthrough of our accommodations, and took several minutes answering our questions about the local area, as well as pointing out a few nearby hikes on the map. The bed was comfortable, with a window to crack open for some fresh air. Oh, and for my millennial cohort, WiFi was fast. 😎 In the morning Isobel made for us a delicious English breakfast of eggs, beans, streaky bacon, toast, and sausage. Absolutely the best way to start our day of hiking in the Lake District!

    Paul2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Izzy is a very attentive host and both the accommodation and location were perfect for a relaxing walking break Communication and check in were both good, I was delayed but this posed no problem. Izzy offered to book a table at the pub two minutes walk away for a meal on arrival. Izzy spent time working out the best walks in the bad weather that hit that weekend and really knows the area well, sharing tips for tea rooms, shops, pubs and other interesting things to do. The bedroom, sitting room and bathroom were all clean and pleasant and breakfast is a real bonus with fresh farm eggs and local sausages and bacon. Izzy asks about any dietary requirements and offered continental breakfast also. I would definately stay again.

  • We stayed a full week arriving as strangers and leaving as friends. All our needs were met, including dietary and drying off our kit on a daily basis. Nothing was too much trouble for Susan. We had gorgeous breakfasts daily and so enjoyed meeting 2 couples from London and Denmark. A great mix and buzz around the breakfast table as Susan made pancakes to order. I fully recommend staying in Susans Georgian mansion, I would like to return and would book the en-suite double. We experienced Great company and lovely conversations yet also had space to just chill and be. We really enjoyed our stay in Susans sympathetically decorated Spacious and peaceful home.

  • Fab cottage. Deceiving from outside as it is huge inside but looks small in the photos. Wonderful countryside views from the rear.

    Suzanne2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is well equipped, tidy and clean. We particularly liked the enclosed back garden, perfect for the dogs. We were at a party at Three Hills Barn in the village and this cottage was the perfect spot, close enough to walk.

  • This cottage was perfect for us. It was just the right size and in the perfect location for exploring the lakes to add a little holiday around the wedding we were attending. Everything we needed was in the cottage and Vivienne was incredibly helpful. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend!

  • This cottage is larger than it looks! It very quickly felt like home even just for a short stay. Torpenhow is a quiet little village but a great location for easy access to the Lake District. Easy check-in and Vivienne was available to answer questions. Would stay here again!

    Dominique2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location lovely accommodation

    Louise2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • This spacious home provides all that a family could need. Although no store or pub right in the small village (which we did miss having), this place is a great location for a base of operations... we stayed 4 nights and could get into Keswick in 25 min, to the port town of Maryport in 25 minutes (nice little aquarium!), and you could even go to Hadrian's wall in an hour or so. There is a sweet old church just down the lane. The view from the kitchen window was lovely, pastures with cows and sheep, and right out towards the ocean. Drying lines outside for laundry, and tables for outdoor eating if desired. It also was very quiet. As for the host, Vivienne was quick to respond to our questions and lives just down the street. She was very helpful not only with questions on the property but also on giving advice on things to visit, which we appreciated.

Our cosy converted stable block is the perfect place for exploring the main attractions of the Lakes and the quieter 'Back O' Skiddaw' area allowing an escape from the crowds. Comfortably sleeps 6, well equipped, 3 bedrooms
The Stables is situated in the village of Torpenhow, a small farming community on the Northern edge of the Lake District. While the Lake Districts main attractions, including Keswick, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere, are easily accessible from the cottage it's position on the edge of the National Park makes it the ideal base for escaping from the crowds. The village provides easy access to some of Cumbria's less visited but no less beautiful locations, such as the Northern and Western Fells, the Solway Coast and the Historic city of Carlisle.
Charming unspoilt village away from the madding crowds but very easily accessible from the M6. Only 30 mins from Carlisle or Penrith, making it a great place whether you're travelling from the North or South.
  • This is a lovely cottage, simply but tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and the living room is comfortable. We had everything we needed and very much enjoyed our stay in Torpenhow.

  • We were a family of 6 including 2 children, and we found the place in an ideal location easily accessible. We arrived with clear instructions in place to get in and found the place to be clean, tidy and well maintained and had a bottle of milk as a welcome gesture. The house is a village with very little amenities, but that was a positive for us as we were looking for a peaceful and idyllic location. However, make sure that you have packed the basic stuff for your trip. Overall a very nice trip for us in a great house and value for money

    Antony2019-08-30T00:00:00Z

  • Stayed for 2 nights, with family and all of us loved the place. Its a house with beautiful woodwork, sparkling clean, and lovely hosts. A super host for sure. Thanks for making us comfortable. The village is scenic, and its an experience itself, people around are lovely. My kids were offered fresh milk (by the dairy owner/care-taker) from the dairy across the road, and that's an experience in itself.

The garden space is around the back of the cottage - garden furniture is provided.
This is a quiet village, sadly no pub within a mile but there is one just a mile and half away in Gilcrux village. Otherwise many pubs and eateries within a 5 minute drive or so. There are lots of circular walking/jogging/dog walking routes from the cottage. I leave details for you. Holly Lodge is the main house (sleeps 10) but the overall space is private and quiet.
  • Lovely place, nice and clean, lots of cupboard storage, well equipped kitchen, good parking, nice big bedrooms and beautiful views. We look forwards to staying again in the future.

  • Brilliant place, beautiful location, beautiful view. Dianne was excellent throughout our stay. Cannot recommend it enough. We'll certainly be back.

  • Great stay at Holly Lodge, very nice place (liked the decorations!) with well equipped kitchen and bathroom. The weather was not good enough to enjoy the nice garden unfortunately. All well organized and Dianne was quick to respond to a fes queries we had. Great for exploring the Lake District!

  • Great location for the Solway coast, which we'd never explored before (and loved), also only half an hour from Keswick. Location is very quiet and the outdoor space is great! We really enjoyed the house, had everything we needed (and a fab little collection of books), and the kids were very excited that the kitchen was upstairs! It was lovely looking out onto a field of cows and the setting sun from our living space! Thanks Dianne

  • Lovely, well equipped cottage in a very peaceful location. Great base for visiting the Solway Coast and the Lakes. We stayed 4 nights, wish we’d had longer. Would certainly stay again if visiting the area.

  • We spent a few nice days in Dianne's house. It was everything as described; a spacious house halfway between the sea and the trails in the lake district. The communication was easy. Although we did not meet personally, everything went well.

  • Lovely and cozy cottage, perfect place to relax for a few days and explore the local area. The place is very clean and a pleasure to stay in, set in a very quiet and peaceful area. Diane is a great host, very quick responses, very happy with the stay.

Welcome to Hayton Castle, nestled between the Lake District National Park and the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A C12 house in 10 acres of grounds including flower garden, orchard, woodland and meadow. A rustic old farmhouse full of quirky features, wonky walls and idiosyncacies. Ideal for lovers of history, nature and art. The location is great for cycling or walking holidays or those just wanting some quiet time or write.
The grade 1 listed castle is a C12-C14 century tower house; extended in the 16th and 17th centuries and converted into a house. Hayton Castle is a large rustic manor / farm house, with features from three periods - 15th Century, Elizabethan and Georgian. Previous custodians include families which feature prominently in the history of Cumberland. The manor of Hayton was originally granted by Alan, second Lord of Allerdale, to his huntsman Seliff, whose descendents in consequence assumed the name De Hayton. During the 17th century it was occupied by a branch of the Musgrave family (Barons and Baronets) who are responsible for much of how the house looks today. Hayton Castle received considerable damage from the Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War. The south end, the most vulnerable, came off worse as after being attached by Oliver Cromwell and his forces. This portion was entirely rebuilt by Sir Richard Musgrave. Hayton Castle is one of several places in Cumberland which offered shelter to Mary, Queen of Scots and it is said that she spent a night here on 17 May 1568. For more history please see Wikipedia :) The castle is now a private home and has been undergoing vital maintenance work over the past few years, a labour of love. We can now offer private double room(s) for guests as well as a Gerorgian dining room and C17 pannelled lounge. The Kitchen and bathroom are shared. Guests do get priority to the bathroom and we provide tea and coffee making facilities.
We love the peace here, the house has a brilliant view over the sea to Scotland. We enjoy wonderful wildlife due to our woodland and wildlife gardens.
  • Great place and accommodations, the host was nice and welcoming.

  • What a great spot to get away from it all! We spent a night here and throughly enjoyed our visit. The castle is incredibly spacious and the hosts are ever so welcoming. I recommend this to anyone looking to spend some time in the great lakes district. A unique and historic building that has been converted to a lovely guesthouse. Thanks for the great travel recommendations Steven!

  • Staying in an 800 year old historical grade I listed mansion is a very unique experience - many of the features are from the various periods are still there and create an amazing time warp into the Middle Ages. The views are spectacular and we were lucky with the weather and able to stay on the lawn until sunset. 2 dogs and 1 chicken keep you company ( outside !).

  • Wow wow wow o where to start....what an amazing place to stay. Full of magic, intrigue and history. Tastefully decorated in-keeping with the period of the house. The bed was very comfy with two fluffy duvets and hot water bottle provided for the cooler evenings. Beautiful grounds and stunning views. A place to unwind, relax and enjoy nature including the observation platform in the wood, resident pigs, chickens and dog. Stephen was a excellent host and took the time to answer questions on the house and area. You are close to the sea, Allonby and the town of Maryport but why would you want to go out, when you can sit and relax with a good book enjoying the peace. We didn’t see the cat! and you might want to pack an extra jumper but I can’t recommend this stunning home and beautiful hosts enough. I want to move in.......

  • Just had the most enjoyable 2 night stay at Hayton castle. Felt at home immediately with its warm rustic charm, beautifully decorated and furnished rooms which were enormous and gave a true sense of “living” in a castle. Stevie, Sam and Carole were fabulous hosts. Very welcoming, great company and made sure we had everything we needed. Would Highly recommend and will definitely be back to stay again Jane, John & Holly, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK

  • What a find this little gem north of the Lake District. Next door: The historic village of Cockermouth is 10 minutes, Allonby, on the east side is 5 minutes, Keswick is 20 minutes and Carlisle 30 minutes, but as it is not on a major road, there is no not disturbed by traffic (and I'm a light sleeper). The house comes straight out of an interior decoration magazine. The decor is perfect (rather feminine ;-)), lots of nice little details, everything is very good (including towels too soft), the bed is spacious and firm, there are plenty of fresh fruits and pastries, homemade jams, cheese, ham, cereals ... and you can have a small English dèj for a supplement. Nothing disturbed our very friendly host Charlotte, who spun us many good recommendations about restaurants, things to see and so on. You have a private entrance, a living room and the bedroom to you. As there is only one room to rent, you share the bathroom only with Charlotte. This little gem of a find will just make your trip to the North Lakes. Handy for historic Cockermouth (10 mins), Allonby on the coast (5 mins), Keswick (20 mins), Carlisle (30 mins) best off the beaten track so much the bedroom looks over the road, we were never disturbed by traffic & I'm a light sleeper. The B & B is like something out of an interior design catalog. Immaculate (if any feminine ;-)) decor, lots of lovely little details, everything is of good quality (including REALLY soft towels), a lovely firm spacious bed, lots of fresh fruit & pastries ham ... cooked breakfast available for a supplement. Charlotte, who gave us recommendations for local restaurants / pubs & places to visit. You have your own entrance, living room and bedroom. There is only one guest room, so the bathroom is only shared with Charlotte.

  • Charlotte is the perfect host. She has a beautiful cottage which is tastefully furnished. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and well equipped for our visit. There were a range of choices for breakfast which were beautifully presented, very tasty and included local produce. There is a great local pub called The Mason with a friendly landlord. We would totally recommend a stay at Charlotte's cottage.
