Taxes and payouts
We know this isn’t the fun stuff, but it’s important.
Withholding taxes
If you received a request to submit your taxpayer information and haven't done so yet, we may have to withhold up to 30% from your payouts to remit to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In some instances, we may need to block payouts until taxpayer information is provided.
Once we receive your info and determine withholding isn't required, we’ll stop withholding on your future payouts. However, amounts previously withheld cannot be refunded to you and must be claimed when you file your annual US tax return with the IRS.
The total amount withheld will be included on the tax forms we issue so that you can account for them on your income tax return. Consult a tax advisor for help with that.
To avoid withholding or instances of blocked payouts, please take a few minutes to add your taxpayer information today.

W-8 taxpayers (non-US persons with US listings, experiences or trips)
W-8BEN
If you provided a W-8BEN, Airbnb is required to withhold 30% on all payouts from US listings, experiences or trips hosted by non-US persons and to remit the funds directly to the IRS. At the end of the year, Airbnb will report the total amount withheld and earnings to you on a Form 1042-S. In order to stop US Tax Withholding, you will need to complete form W-8ECI.
All W-8 forms
W-8BEN and W-8ECI forms expire at the end of the 3rd year from the date you last submitted the form. Once the form expires, Airbnb is required to withhold 30% on all payouts from US listings hosted by non-US persons and remit funds directly to the IRS. You can avoid this by updating your taxpayer information.
