The City of Kingston requires hosts to register with the city in order to engage in short-term rentals in the city. Hosts are responsible for applying for a business license online or in person at city hall.
Short-term rentals are allowed in principal residences only and hosts must provide proof of age, evidence that the listing is your principal residence and contact information for the city. Learn more about the bylaw.
Once you submit your registration, the city will review your application. If your application is approved, a registration number will be generated and emailed to you within five (5) business days, which you’ll need to add to your listing to comply with the requirements.
Other contracts and rules
As a host, you need to understand and abide by other contracts or rules that bind you, including leases, co-op rules, HOA rules, or other rules established by tenant organizations. You should be able to find out more by contacting your housing authority (such as a community council) or landlord. Your lease (or other contract) might also have specific details.
