Yes, Buffalo is a port city. In fact, when the Erie Canal was thriving, Buffalo was one of the busiest inner ports in the world. As a key nexus between the farms in the mid-west and the rest of the world, it was said that Buffalo fed the world. A full day out could include a visit to the Naval Park, a walk around the Marina (be on the look out for the light house, one of Buffalo's oldest historic landmarks, and to walk up the observation deck at the end of the Marina), go kayaking or ride a water bike, walk along the foot path, view the old grain elevators, take a boat tour on the Miss Buffalo, view the terminus of the Erie Canal, and much more. Lots of options for food, including William K, a perfect venue to take in the setting sun of the Lake Erie coupled with artsy food choices or the Liberty Hound, a retro pub that sits on the water on the same property as the Naval Park.
