Tips from locals
A journey up into the mountains offers spectacular views down to the sea from the summit of Mont Aigoual, the tallest mountain in this part of France. On a clear day you can also see down towards Spain and then in the opposite direction glimpse Mont Ventoux, rising out of the plain near Chateaneuf de Pape, which is, of course, the infamous climb which features regularly in the Tour de France cycle race. Atop Mont Aigoual sits a weather station which is operating but also offers and interesting museum and a great place to have a bite to eat or your lacked lunch enjoying the views.
