This is a great volunteer-run museum, through which you will learn a heap about early Tasmania, its wrecks and seafaring past. Especially to be seen is the after cabin of HMS Otago, author Joseph Conrad's last ship, the hull of which can be visited at Otago on the other side of the river (take the Bowen Bridge to get there).

A wonderful collection of sea going tackle, videos, old maps, artefacts brings Tasmania's maritime history to life by knowledgeable volunteer guides. Next door to TMAG so make a day of it especially if the weather doesn't suit you.

Up there with other small Maritime Museums in the world. Guests report up to date presentations including the Tasman Bridge disaster (1975). Opposite the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery.
