ITINERARIO VIA TRIBUNALI DECUMANO MAGGIORE [14] - IPOGEO ANIME AL PURGATORIO E PALAZZO SPINELLI DI LAURINO The church Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio ad Arco was built in the early seventeenth century to provide a burial place for the poor. In one of its underground rooms, numerous skulls are kept and preserved. The skulls, which are called “cape e morte” or “capuzzelle”, are still venerated by Neapolitan people In via Tribunali,stands one of the most beautiful buildings of the city: Palazzo Spinelli di Laurino. It has been chosen as set of many movies (including some performed by Marcello Mastroianni and Burt Lancaster).

La chiesa ospita l'affascinante culto delle anime pezzenterie, resti umani anonimi. Una visita tra arte, fede, vita e morte. The Church of Purgatory still hosts the fascinating worship addressed to the (pezzentelle) beggar souls. a visit through art, faith, life and death.

This one is definitely my favourite, for its ipogeum is perfect if you loke spooky places. Do not forget to rub the metallic skull at the entrance of the building for good luck!
