The water castle of Bourtzi, from Ottoman Turkish burc meaning "tower" is a Venetian castle located in the middle of the harbor of Nafplio.

The castle built in 1473 in the middle of the Argolic Gulf and it was used to as a Fortress until 1865. Later, the castle was used to as a prison of the executioners and from 1935 as a hotel. Today, the castle is a famous tourist attraction of the city of Nafplio.

"Castello dello Soglio" was the first name of the Venetian castle, which along with Palamidi, is considered one of the landmarks of Nafplio. Its a miniature castle in the center of the sea with strong scents of history.

Take the taxi boat from the harbor front promenade. The boat will cross over to the Venetian fortress that seems to float in the middle of the sea. The trip would offer incredible views to the old town.
