drive north through the san juan national forest for the most beautiful mountain views. you can stop in silverton then head on to ouray + take the long way home through telluride, rico + mancos for a whole loop. or you can just drive a little ways + turn around for a different view of the same mountains you "ooo'd + ahh'd" at on the way up.
