THE HAYLING ISLAND FERRY. It can be a pleasant bike ride to go along the seafront and continue to the Hayling Island Ferry. You pass the boat houses and the Lifeboat station. The beach there has alot of shell and is a pleasant place to sit for a while. There is a chuck wagon if you fancy a cup of tea or a bite to eat. Plus of course you can catch the ferry itself from the end of the pontoon. The Hayling Ferry is a foot passenger ferry across the mouth of Langstone Harbour linking the Ferry Point on the west tip of Hayling Island with Eastney. It takes you over the narrow stretch to Hayling Island and lands right by the "Ferryboat Inn" pub. If you continue to walk from there the beach is all shell so really quite special. The ferry operates throughout the year and conveys schoolchildren, commuters, tourists and cyclists and is busy in the summer. In winter, there is a significant reduction of use. The ferry is scheduled to run hourly but will run more frequently in peak and if the ferry becomes full. Bicycles are conveyed subject to space. The tidal currents at the Ferry point are extremely treacherous and have claimed many lives over the years.

If you fancy a little jolly across the water to Hayling Island this is perfect. The journey only takes a few minutes and the ferry also takes bikes.
