Hugh Evans is regarded as one the most exciting painters of the Australian landscape. His magical and unique lollipop logo allows him to freely explore the basic elements of colour, texture and line unfettered by the interpretation of subject matter. Hugh’s magical sense of colour combines well with his gestures of marks, circles and striations to create a spectacular yet often sublime body of work that has to be seen to be believed. Hugh encourages his visitors to actually touch his paintings textures to better understand what he is saying about his surface. Hugh’s paintings can take ‘a lot of looking at’. Something new appears every time you look at his works much like looking into the coals of a fire. His incredible spontaneity and freshness comes from experience of 50 years of painting and subject themes of 70 years of life. Hugh has developed his own ‘look’ with his distinctive style that embodies his own varied and richly patterned journey of life. Hugh also enjoys to make his way to Port Douglas in Far North Queensland to gain even more inspiration to do what he does best. Open to the public most weekends, everyday over summer and by appointment all other times – please call ahead to avoid disappointment.
