The king did stop here to visit his relatives at Berkhamsted Market. The atmosphere inside the pub reflects those times - great variety of gins and beers with wonderful open fires.

Within walking distance of the Old Post Office, reliably good food and plenty of outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome too!

Best ales in town. Period! Also serves really good food but my advise is, book in advance as it is usually packed. Be warned this is an old style pub so don't expect the decoration to be up-to-date but on the other hand it is also why it's appealing with open fire places burning on cold days :)
