Highgate Station

Why locals recommend it
There’s an abandoned 19th century steam-railway station next to this tube station. A couple of the tunnels have been turned into a bat sanctuary. You can’t go there, but when you use Highgate’s exit-only escalator, look out the window and, at the top, you’ll spot the abandoned platforms down below. There’s a unique way out of the station here. An exit-only escalator takes you from the ticket hall up to a small room with a window and a door that leads out onto the street. It’s the only place on the tube network where there is an exit-only door.
