Deborah apprenticed for a year with Yamomoto Toshu in Bizen, and Ray studied architecture and ceramics. The Sri Aurobindo Ashram drew them to this corner of southeastern India. They opened in 1971, and became the first producers of hand thrown glazed stoneware in South India.
