The Basilica Cistern in Istanbul is a large cistern located between Hagia Sophia and Cağaloğlu. The cistern, which was built to meet the water needs of the city in the ancient times, is only among the historical monuments and is presented to the view of the visitors, even if there is water in it today.

It was the biggest water supply of Istanbul. Now, it’s one of the most important Museum of İstanbul with artistic sculptures.

Basilica Sistern is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul. It's a very unique experience and atmosphere.

This is a huge cistern from the Byzantium Empire. It used to collect water for the city. It feels absolutely out of this world. It could be closed since there are renovations. It was also shown in one of the older James Bond movies where they drive a boat inside the cistern.
