Food Scene

Great atmosphere, delicious and authentic small plates with their origins in Spain. We love the Fried Aubergine with Molasses. Best to book or go early or late and sit at the bar. We'll often end up here for their dessert platter having eaten elsewhere.

Little sister of the famous Bell's Diner and Bar Rooms in Montpelier, Bristol. Excellent take on tapas and brilliantly executed. Try their range of interesting 'shrims & shrubs' (types of drink). Another one that is best to book, particularly on a Friday or a Saturday.

Our neighbourhood is fast becoming Bristol's place to come for Tapas and this is the newest arrival. Small plates are served in the bar with '1sts' Middles and Afters' served in the dining room. The menu is genuinely creative and almost everything we have tried (which is most of the menu) has been perfectly executed. If you're a meat-eater and like offal (and it's available) try the 'Sweetbreads, roast parsnip puree, lemon vinaigrette'. Delicious.

Our favourite place to eat Japanese and, as we love Japanese food, we eat here a lot. Japanese owned and operated the menu is authentic and has plenty of menu items for those not keen on sushi. If you do like sushi however their Nigiri and Sashimi are particularly good.

Our most frequented coffee shop - the coffee is great, the menu interesting and available all day and they have a good range of vegetarian and vegan options. They open relatively early (7.00AM), the staff is fantastic and they don't play the music too loud. Probably why it has become Luke's second office.

Drinks & Nightlife

Late night cocktail bar that is difficult to locate (deliberately), and when you do find the door you enter the bar through a telephone box. Great atmosphere and an interesting and eclectic range of cocktails, some of which are served in very unusual containers. It does tend to get busy on Friday and Saturday nights so if you are a group you're best advised to book a table.

Entertainment & Activities

We love going to the cinema, particularly when you're seated on comfortable sofas rather than chairs and your food and drink is delivered to your seat. That's what they do at the Everyman on Whiteladies Road. Needless to say, it isn't your average cinema experience!
