Really convenient and well set up for food and drink. Right in the middle of the Mt Hawthorn strip and with a few metres of restaurants and cafes. A classic building well representing the architectural golden age of Australian hotels.

If you want a serious walk (12kms) and a view of migratory birdlife then Herdsman Lake is for you. Originally connected to Lake Monger the whole area was a wetland paradise in pre-colonial times.

Adjoins and connected to Scarborough Beach this is a swimming gem. The wave action is strong so body surfing and board surfing is good for experienced swimmers. Less proficient swimmers should only swim "Between the Flags" under the watchful gaze of the Surf Life Savers.

Everything Else

Beaches are to Australians as cathedrals are to Europeans. Scarborough and Triggs beaches are one long 6 km strip of prime Australian beach. The surf is great and surfing schools abound. Just lie on the beach ....whatever..it is beautiful. From Mt Hawthorn the 400 bus runs directly down Scarborough Beach Road. If you are driving then a 15 minute car trip (on a bad day) gets you to the best beach in the world! Uber it if you prefer!

Sightseeing

There is only one Kings Park! Views over the river and east over the city to the hills. Walk , ride or just sit on the grass, it is all free. At the centre of the cultural traditions of post colonial life, the War Memorial helps us remember the reasons we value our freedom and independence. The gardens are world class and feature the astonishing range of species and diversity relevant to this South West part of Australia.
