This amazing place looks and feels like you are inside of a fashion spa. But it was built around 1740 to bring water to the center of Lisbon. At the top you can still see the tunnels down which the water used to flow and further up you can walk all around and see the town.

Alfama is a old part of town. Normally people get there by the 28 tram. But, you can also get there taking the lift inside of the blue tile building in Rua dos Fanqueiros straight away from down Chiado Metro Station, then turn left at the top and find the other lift inside the Pingo Doce Supermarket. You will come out at the wonderful Belveder. Follow the narrow road on your right passing the Chapitô café and restaurant and you will find the Castle walls some yards up. Enjoy the walk, the amazing houses and narrow streets.

City advice

Getting around

Walk down hills.

Lisbon center is quite a big place. It is great to walk down the hills and harder to go up some of them. Organize your walks going down and choose a bus or a tram which will take you up. Ask us for some information if you need one.
Getting around

Good walking shoes and no high hells.

Lisbon is a pretty safe place. But don't walk around with your passport and lots of money. An identity card and an address just in case you get lost. Keep your bag always with you when sitting down, you are in a capital city. Look up and down the beautiful buildings, gardens and small alleys. Enjoy your days discovering new places.
