It's about a 30 minutes ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard from either Falmouth or Woods Hole, which are 30-40 minutes from my home. MV is a great day trip, where you can explore the 3 main towns, go to the beach, take an island bus tour that lasts about 2 hours and takes you around the whole island. It's great fun, especially if you get a funny tour guide.

P'town, as it's called, is way out at the end of the Cape and worth a day trip. It's a very fun place to wander, lots of unusual shops, and people hanging around the streets. Great restaurants. You know you're on vacation when you're here in the summer. If you like art galleries, Wellfleet has some nice ones to explore. On the way to P'town, stop at Nauset Beach and Nauset Lighthouse, and the CC National Seashore Visitor Center. Drive there part way along route 6a for a taste of Cape Cod, then head home on route 6 after a full and fun day.

This is off-Cape, up route 3 towards Boston. It's a re-creation of the original Plymouth settlement of 1627. Very interesting, great for kids to learn about the early days and how they lived. The settlers go about their daily business and you can ask them questions, learn about them. Each of them is a specific person who lived in the village at that time. There's also the Wampanoag settlement so you can see how the Native Americans lived at that time. A great "touristy" thing to do.
