Parks & Nature

Use the little passenger ferry near the Passage House Inn to cross from Topsham to the Exeter Canal (take bikes if you want to really explore the canal - you can hire them at Route 2 in Topsham). From there you can walk or cycle south to the Turf Locks for food and drinks. Further down you have Powderham Castle (look out for deer) and even further Dawlish Warren (you will need definitely need a bike for that one!). If you travel North you get to the Double Locks - again good food and drink and then to Exeter Quayside. A passenger ferry runs between the double locks and Exeter Quay - checkout www.jonathanperry.co.uk

Lots of places on Dartmoor to explore. The classic honeypots are Haytor and Dartmeet. We like Bonehill rocks, less busy, lots of scrambling and walks around. Drop into Widecombe in the Moor afterwards for something to eat.

It is only 200m from the cottage, has loads of space for ball games, and some good play equipment - nice views too!

Iron Age Hill Fort, set in a glorious woodland in Woodbury Common. Great walks all over common and good for mountain biking (no waymarked trails though). The common has free ranging ponies and at times Longhorn cattle to manage it.

Ok it is a Wetherspoons but the building is great, walk through to the orangery for the best bit - they have beer festivals from time to time too. Huge beer garden. Also close to Exeter St Davids Station so catch the train from Topsham and enjoy a few cheap beers!

Sightseeing

Iconic building, more interesting outside than inside. The cathedral green is a great place for al-fresco lunch, or visit the Christmas market during December.
