Parks & Nature

Sand beach! From here you can take ferries to Espoo islands during summer season. Nice cafés and walking paths... You can take the Espoo Waterfront walk (40 kilometers seaside walk alltogether) to two directions: towards Kivenlahti or Tapiola. Waterfront walk is great if you want to ride a bicycle and enjoy the Finnish sea nature. https://www.visitespoo.fi/en/service/espoo-waterfront-walkway/

Just couple bus stops away you will find an unique rock area formed by the last ice age in Northern Europe. It's a small natureserve as well, sights are quite pleasing to the eye!

In the center of Espoo you will find... a forest. We call it park but it is actually a huge forest area. We love to jog, walk around there. In the autumn you can actually pick berries and mushrooms there. In winter there are great cross country skiing tracks (if there is enough snow). Just walk the marked paths if you are afraid getting lost. But I actually recommend getting lost at least mentally in the forest, take a deep breath and smell everything. It's therapy without any cost!

Two bus rides away a big nature reserve which I think might be the best thing to see in Espoo. There are also is also nature center called Haltia with restaurant etc. https://www.haltia.com/en/haltia-the-finnish-nature-centre/ In Nuuksio you can even see some reindeers and a tiipii (but not wild), see Nuuksio reindeer park information here: http://nuuksioreindeerpark.fi/en/opening-hours/

I think this is one of the best and most affordable places to taste some of Finnish sauna culture! There are electric saunas and also traditional Finnish smoke sauna. Depending on which sauna the tickets are around 6-12 euros per person. Cool off by swimming in the lake, even in the winter they make a hole in the ice. Cafeteria and restaurant are open daily. https://www.cafekuusijarvi.fi/english/

Getting Around

The best, easiest and fastest way to Helsinki center is my metro. I recommend buying a day ticket (1-7 days) so you can use it all the time in all public transportation around Helsinki region. However, you need to buy a REGIONAL ticket because you will be crossing city border (Espoo/Helsinki/Vantaa, three cities consist of Helsinki region).

If you wish a take a bus a little further away, for example to the iconic small city, old village, of Porvoo, there is a long haul bus station in the same building with Kamppi metro station. Buses to Porvoo, Turku, Kotka, Tampere etc. Cheapest bus agency will probably be Onnibus. Check out more: https://www.onnibus.com/home
