The apartment is located only 1 km away from the Westerpark, most popular Amsterdam parks among the locals. Besides beautiful water features and greenery it offers plenty inspiration. It's a perfect spot for a leisurely walk, jogging or any form of outdoor workout. Last but not least, it is also an ultimate destination for foodies with its famous Sunday food market and many bars and restaurants. Vondelpark is the most famous park of Amsterdam. It is located right next to Leidseplein. It is a large park, so I would recommend to rent a bicycle if you want to see it all.

The loft is overlooking a small local park called Frederik Hendrikplantsoen. It is a quiet, safe and well-lit residential area. Once you cross the park and the Marnixgracht canal, you will find yourself in the charming, old district called Jordaan. Frederik Hendrikplantsoen is a park in Amsterdam West, in the Frederik Hendrikbuurt neighbourhood, on the edge of the Jordaan in one of the greenest historic neighbourhoods of Amsterdam. It is notable for its red sculpture group from 2015 'De Stam' ('The Tribe' or 'The Tree Trunk) by Atelier van Lieshout. The red sculptures can be found in various sections of the park.

Tiny Museums

Here's where to get your fix of arts and culture in a small dosis.
Anne Frank House Museum is situated at the heart of Jordaan, next to the Westerkerk. It is just 1 km away from the apartment, so you can walk or cycle there taking a scenic route along the small canals of the Jordaan district. I recommend that you go either early in the morning or late in the evening, as they tend to have long queues, especially on Saturdays.

Best Brunch Places Around

There is nothing like a lazy brunch on your weekend trip away and Amsterdam won't disappoint you with its choice of trendy brunch locations.
Every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. there is a big farmer's market at the Noordermarkt. A part of the square is occupied by a a flea market section. You can buy local organic produce as well as cheese. Each Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. there is another market alongside the Westerstraat, mainly with textile products. The part towards Noordemarkt is similar to the Saturday market, but smaller. Westerstraat offers a lot of restaurants and cafes, as well as several supermarkets and specialty shops.

The Butcher is one of the better burger places in town. It's hip & trendy. The place is kind of hidden but right in the centre, so it's a good spot if you need a quick bite on the way. They also serve fajitas, which is great for those avoiding gluten or lactose.

Getting Around: Public Transport and Bikes

Tips on transport in Amsterdam, including public transport and bikes.
To reach the apartment from the main railway station Amsterdam Centraal go to the upstair deck where the bus station is located and take bus #18 direction Slotervaart. You can purchase a ticket directly from the driver. Enter the bus through the front door. You will need to exit at the stop "Frederik Hendrikplantsoen". It is a mere 100 m walk to the apartment. On your way back I'd recommend that you check the timetable, especially if leaving early in the morning on a weekend or on a public holiday.

Taxis in Amsterdam are expensive. The maximum a taxi driver is allowed to charge between the airport and city centre is 50€. Uber is a very good alternative, but you will need to order them opposite of Sheraton hotel, which is to the right after exiting the Schiphol Plaza. If you prefer public transport, from the Schiphol Plaza you can take an NS train to Amsterdam Centraal Station. It will be a regular train, most likely passing through two other stations: Amsterdam Lelylaan and Amsterdam Sloterdijk. The train ride takes up to 20 minutes. Tickets can be bought at vending machines (they only accept cards and no cash!) or at the counter (with an additional service charge).

Amsterdam Sloterdijk is a nearby station in the West of Amsterdam where many of international buses arrive. It is located only 3,5 km away from the apartment. Amsterdam Sloterdijk is an alternative train and bus station to Amsterdam Centraal. It is smaller and less crowded than Amsterdam Centraal and it may be a good alternative when you're taking an uber/ taxi the train back/ to Schiphol. Since it is not far away, a taxi may be the fastest and surely the most convenient option to reach the apartment. Alternatively, you can take a connecting train to Centraal Station and then change to bus #18 or #21.
