The Brașov Council Square (Piața Sfatului in Romanian) obtained its right to hold markets in 1520, but it has been the place for annual markets since 1364, being visited by merchants from the country and abroad. The houses surrounding the square speak of a rich history. The Old Town, including the Black Church and main square or Council Square (Piața Sfatului), features medieval buildings in different architectural styles. Around the main square you can find the picturesque pedestrian-only Republicii street, the Black Church, former Council House, indoor and outdoor terraces and restaurants, the Orthodox Cathedral, Mureșan's House, the Hirscher House, the Strada Sforii and more.

The Black Church is the largest Gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul, located in the city centre, close to Piata Sfatului. The architecture is absolutely amazing. Dating back to 14th century, this church has nice collections of Ottoman rugs. Inside is beautiful, entrance fee 9lei. There are info sheets with German and English translations. If you can get to an organ concert, do not hesitate. The church sticks out on a panorama of Brasov, it is surrounded by cute architecture and little shops all around. Great orientation point that you will pass by in many occasions.

Şchei Gate (Romanian: Poarta Schei) in Braşov, Romania, is right next to Ecaterina's Gate. It was built in between 1827 and 1828 in order to let through heightened traffic. The stone and brick gate built in classical style like a triumphal arch has three openings. The middle arch, shaped for traffic, is larger, and on its both sides there are two smaller and lower openings for pedestrians. The Latin inscriptions on the wall above the small arches let us know the construction date, but they also inform us that the gate was built after the Emperor of Austria Francis I visited Braşov in 1817.

A beautiful landmark of Brașov. Looks like a tiny castle with an archway, with small gardens around it. Very picturesque and on the way to other attractions. It's right next door to Poarta Schei so you won't have to wander around to find it. It is the only gate of Brasov that still stands delimiting the old town from Schei neighbourhood. The four tourrets on each corner reminds us about Brasov's right to give the capital punishment in case of trial.

A short walk from the centre of Brasov old town, this is a great place to visit for views of the city. At this present time, you can only walk around the outside, so you probably won't spend a long time here, but well worth a quick visit. A nice spot to watch sunsets and also enjoy a panoramic view of the city in a quiet and nice place on top of the hill. You can admire the fortress from outside and you can see the hole Brasov from top.

The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as "Dracula's Castle" (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is often erroneously referred to as the home of the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Maria. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open-air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country.

Cantacuzino Castle is situated on Zamora Street in Bușteni, Romania. The building was completed in 1911 at the request of Prince George Grigore Cantacuzino. It is built in Neo-Romanian style; the total surface of the estate is over 3,000 square meters. The castle belonged to the Cantacuzino family until the forced nationalization of 1948, when it became a preventoriumrium for the Ministry of Internal Affair. During the communist period, the original furniture was removed and a part of the interior walls were painted over. After 1989, the castle was returned to Cantacuzino descendants, who sold it to private investors in 2004. The castle is open today to the public. Open: from 10 am to 6 pm.

The cheapest and biggest local brewery in town, with very goods prices for food and beer. If you want to taste the Romanian traditional food, but you don't want to be in a fancy restaurant for that, this is the place to be. For hot soups, for the traditional mititei, you will have variety of grilled meat and sausages and of course the local sweet- papanași. All of them in a friendly environment.

Central Park of Brasov, dating from around 1885, was originally a vacant lot of the right and left of the Customs Gate, the place where the carts with merchandise of villagers who came to the fair in the city would withdraw. The park was the promenade of the youth during the week. Sunday after lunch was reserved for workers and servants, who received free time from masters. In time, the area was transformed into what is now Central or Titulescu Park.

Brasov's main theatre, built in an impressive 1950's socialist style, was first called the People's Theatre, consequently the State Theatre and the Drama Theatre Teatrul Dramatic. It is currently named after the illustrious director who changed the name into Drama Theatre. Performances take place most evenings, but are almost exclusively in Romanian.

The Star, once communist Brasov's showpiece store, has had a facelift and is now a half-decent department store selling all you could ever need. There is a Billa supermarket in the basement: the closest supermarket indeed to the city centre. Open: 09:00-20:30.
