If you are up for a little bit of a drive, 5Church is one of the best restaurants in downtown Charleston. The menu is constantly changing so you'll never have the same meal twice and the food is classic southern with modern twists. We highly recommend for a date night or small group of friends. Would not suggest young children.

Classic Charleston flavor with the best seafood we have found in downtown. Always delicious with the best views of the harbor and even dolphin sightings if you go in the afternoon! We recommend sitting outside if the weather isn't too hot.

Great little lake hidden away north of Moncks Corner about 20 minutes from the house. Boat rentals, kayaking, swimming, and fishing make this lake a full day of fun for the whole family. Make sure you check out fishing license laws before heading out!

Definitely a bit of a drive but an experience in Charleston that can't be found anywhere else. This is fun for the whole family and you'll learn a lot about the history of these massive ships and the Charleston naval defenses. We recommend pairing Patriot's Point with a ferry ride out to Fort Sumter.

So we may be a bit biased, but this is our favorite place in Charleston! For aviation enthusiast, watch the beautiful C-17A Globemaster III in action every day. We recommend driving behind the airfield on South Aviation Avenue where you can park and watch these massive aircraft takeoff and land throughout the entire day.

City advice

Book before you go

Any Restaurant Downtown (esp on the weekends in the summer)

We cannot emphasize this enough. If you are wanting to eat in downtown Charleston on a weekend in the spring, summer, or fall, MAKE A RESERVATION! Most restaurants downtown boast gorgeous views of the city or harbor but you have to have a reservation to get these tables during the peak season.
Ways to save

Metered parking downtown is FREE on Sundays and Holidays

If you are wanting to drive downtown and sight see, we highly suggest going on Sunday or a federal holiday. Most of the metered parking is free on Sunday and federal holidays. Make sure you read the signs and understand the fees before leaving your car. Many spots are difficult to discern, especially loading-only spots or residential reserved spots.
