Out on a limb from the rest of Umbria, Orvieto is perfectly placed between Rome and Florence to serve as a historical picnic for tour operators. Visitors flood into the town, drawn by the Duomo, one of the greatest Gothic buildings in Italy. However, once its facade and Signorelli’s frescoes have been admired, the town’s not quite as exciting as guides and word of mouth make out. This is partly to do with the gloominess of the dark volcanic rock from which Orvieto is built, and, more poetically, because it harbours something of the characteristic brooding atmosphere of Etruscan towns (it was one of the twelve-strong federation of Etruscan cities). Two thousand years on, it’s not difficult to detect a more laid back atmosphere in the cities east of the Tiber – founded by the Umbrians, a sunnier and easier-going people. All the same Orvieto is likeable, the setting superb, the Duomo unmissable, and the rest of the town good for a couple of hours’ visit. And you could always indulge in its renowned white wine if you’re stuck with time on your hands. Over New Year there's also the Umbria Jazz Winter festival: five days of marching bands and jazz performances.

Perugia is the provincial capital of Umbria, one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. Activo Park
The presence of travertine deposits, a rock by nature friable and not compact, has allowed the formation of cavities, caves and “karst” shapes thanks to the intense circulation of the waters.
The presence of a rich aquatic fauna completes the ecosystem of the Parco della Cascata and the paths, inside the luxuriant woods, are populated by many species of birds including the mountain swallow and the black redstart. Among the birds of prey the biancone and the kestrel have a prominent place.
The support and tourist assistance services in the area of the Marmore Falls are managed by VIVATICKET spa.
The creation of the waterfall dates back to 271 BC, it is a formidable work of Roman engineering that served to favor the flow of the waters of the Velino, responsible for frequent and disastrous floods and for the transformation of vast tracts of land into unhealthy swamps. In later times and up to the Renaissance, further refinement works were carried out up to the current structure.
In the Parco della Cascata you walk on paths with large specimens of willows, alders, holm oaks and the Aleppo pine is often clinging to the limestone emergencies of the slopes, while the hills are covered with holm oaks, oaks, maples and beeches.
