A must see. Known for its emerald green glacier fed lake situated just steps outside the Fairmont Hotel. In the winter months I recommend a skate around the lake and tour through the magical ice sculptures. You can also take the walking trail around the lakeside or head up to the "Tea House" on a moderate climb upwards to take in the majestic views of the rugged mountain peaks. Take can take it a few steps further and hike the Plain of six glaciers or to the Bee Hive for top notch views. Hint: Parking can be challenging. Consider taking a bus from Banff.

Just outside of Banff lies a chain of lakes. Standing on the shore offers a peek into a complete mountain ecosystem. Squirrels play in the trees around the lake, muskrats swim through the reeds, geese float on the water, and countless species of birdlife flit amongst the trees and across the water. Aspiring photographers, visit early or late in the day for a chance to share the shores with elusive moose as you soak up the view on the dock. Don’t forget your camera to capture a classic shot of Mount Rundle reflected in the lakes. This is located only 2.4 km from Banff townsite. A pleasant walk links up with Fenland Trail and leads back towards Banff. Or explore by bike, canoe, or standup paddleboard.

A beautiful bright blue glacier fed lake with roaring mountains set as a back drop. This is also the trail head for Sentinel Pass. If your timing is right in the Fall you can take the Larch Valley Trail to see these beautiful yellow Larches stand tall. Tip: The parking lot at Moraine Lake fills up early in the morning. Once it fills up, the park closes the road and makes people utilize the shuttle to reach the lake. See Roam transit for more information of shuttles.

The enchanting stone pathways of Banff’s very own secret garden wind through terraced gardens brimming with vibrant flowers, cascading ponds and wooden gazebos polished by the hands of time. A visit here offers a glimpse into history as much as a visual feast for the eyes. The Cascade of Time Gardens, and the heritage-status Parks Administration Building above them, were built nearly a century ago with thoughtfulness and dedication that is still evident today. A look back towards downtown offers a picture-perfect view of Cascade Mountain standing proudly over Banff Avenue.
