Food scene

Delicious food (try the smoked turkey sandwich) - take it to go and go grab a beer from the Wedge at foundation (right behind 12 Bones, and enjoy your food outside or inside the taproom).

Amazing French food, owned by the same folks who own Bouchon downtown, but they take reservations. Definitely a treat and a great place for a date night. Bonus that it is in an old church!

Delicious homestyle foods (like Tupelo Honey, but better in my opinion, and usually less of a wait). Located across from Pritchard Park, you can catch the drum circle on Friday nights.

Rest & Relaxation

This is a public bath house that has several saunas as well as a cold plunge. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for something relaxing that isn’t just a massage (they do offer massages as well). Reservations are required and can be done online!

Neighborhoods

Montford is a historic area near downtown Asheville with so many cute older houses! The area became popular initially during the tuberculosis outbreak at the turn of the century in the 1900s. The treatment at the time was "fresh air & sunshine" and you will observe that most of the houses in Montford have "breathing porches" designed for maximum fresh air during that time. Other things of note in the Montford area is Zillicoa street, it was home to the Highland Hospital from 1909 to the 1970s. It was founded by a psychiatrist and was an institute for mental illness as well as substance use disorders. The hospital became famous in the 1940s when a fire broke out and killed several patients in the women's ward, the most famous patient being Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald (author of the Great Gatsby and more). Along Zillicoa street is the "castle" which was the home of the hospital founder (it is currently a popular wedding venue), a private diagnostic laboratory, Genova Diagnostics, sits next to what is left of Highland Hospital, Highland Hall (to the right of Genova). The riverside cemetery is also located in Montford and is open to the public, it is a beautiful place and has many of famous Asheville founders buried there.
