Dracula themed place with a good selection of reasonably priced drinks, including numerous local beers, in a bright and tidy interior with an Irish tint. Very quiet compared with the raucous bars of the old town, for a change of pace.Food is ok and not too pricey for the area. A super organic food bar. Try a cooked “Pukka Tukka” breakfast, or a lunch of salmon with baby spinach. All the drinks, including coffee, fresh apple juice and a selection of local wines, are 100% organic, too. Literally “beer cart”, is the first restaurant many tourists make a beeline for but it’s also where the locals go, which says much about its authenticity. You should visit Vatra if you want to try some really delicious authentic Romanian food in a comfortable environment. The restaurant has all sorts of traditional Romanian decorations and a lovely terrace open in the summer, with traditional folk music and dance. It's a whole Romanian experience with traditional recipes, so the food here is well cooked and very tasty. Also, it's a quiet place, nicely decorated, away from the city noise. Vatra has the best ciorba in town. There's also mamaliga, that goes really well with sarmale, Romania's traditional dish, or mici (meat rolls). Vatra is at a 3 min walk away from my house.

As soon as the temperature reaches around 20 degrees, J’ai Bistrot the garden takes out its wooden benches and tables, umbrellas, hammocks, chill vibes and folding beach chairs to inaugurate the urban warm season. The crowd is a good mix of young professionals, freelancers, families, dogs, hipsters and old hippies. A good place to have a chat and a drink in a very relaxed atmosphere. Many consider Acuarela to be an alternative place. It offers a good selection of teas, beers and wines in atmospheric surroundings. The building’s attic is decorated like a cosy home with familiar objects, while the open terrace has umbrellas as its roof, and doors as its tables. The best part is that it’s set in a green, leafy garden. Acuarela is also home to the Imbold Gallery – exhibition space dedicated to young Romanian artists. The graphic works on display are frequently changing, and according to the curator, it’s the perfect place to experience contemporary art. Concerts and theatre performances take place on the terrace almost every weekend. This bar's toilet is the coolest in town.

This place quickly became a favourite amongst locals looking for for cool places with cool people. There’s a wonderful open-air terrace full of flowers and ivy, as well as a mysterious old house. T he style of this place is reminiscent of Budapest’s ‘ruin bars’ – it feels a bit like a squat, a bit like a haunted house. The decrepit walls, old furniture and low lighting contribute to its scary but warm atmosphere. Many events take place here including concerts, theatre performances, parties and more. One would never guess while walking down the hectic Calea Victoriei, the little secret that lies behind Știrbei Palace – a local beach bar with trees of heaven and grey gravel sprawling across 2,000 square meters, unbeatable for late after-work chats over drinks, lazy summer gatherings and child-friendly environment. Also a good excuse to stop for a cocktail, a lemonade or a local beer at quite expensive prices. If you’d rather go for the nice and quiet, come here in the morning for coffee and e-mails.

A major architectural landmark of the city and an example of the historic times Bucharest. Comprised of a spectacular ballroom, serving also as a theater and a concert hall, with a library, a bowling alley and many rooms and shops on the ground level, it was an impressive structure interfusing architectural styles of the most renowned buildings of that time: the Chamber of Commerce, the Romanian Post Office, the CEC Savings House and the Supreme Court of Justice, all built during the same period.

Macca-Villacrosse passage, connecting Calea Victoriei and a smaller street opening onto the banking headquarter in Lipscani area, was completed in 1891 and looks quite similar to other glass covered passages in Milan and Paris - which were quite fashionable at the turn of the 20th century. The Villacrosse passage is the best place in town to smoke water pipe with a variety of different flavors in one of the Egyptian themed cafes or to enjoy a cup of Turkish coffee. Some small boutiques stand side by side with some old-fashioned stores and jewelry shops and are a reminder of the initial commercial character of this place. Palace of Parliament is indisputably jaw-dropping. Constructed at Ceauşescu’s behest, its scale and opulence are head-spinning: 12 storeys (including four underground levels, one a nuclear bunker), 1,100 rooms, 4,500 chandeliers, and so on – although apparently not even 700 architects could satisfy Ceauşescu’s, or rather his wife’s, ever-changing whims. Guided tours (£5) take in a dozen or so of the largest and most extravagant rooms and conclude on the balconied terrace, affording fabulous views down bulevardul Unirii. Cărtureşti Carusel bookshop is the most spectacular example of the massive regeneration project that has transformed many of the Bucharest hitherto grubby-looking streets and buildings. Carusel is situated in the old town, on strada Lipscani. Besides the architecural interest this book shop has, it is also a great spot for buying souvenirs. It takes a 12 min walk from my house.

Largest park of Bucharest, Romania, around Lake Herăstrău. The park has an area of about 187 ha, of which 74 ha is the lake. The area of the park has been inhabited since the Paleolithic, traces of settlements being found at the Herăstrău sand quarry, including flint tools made by the Mousterian culture, a culture generally associated with the Neanderthals. During the quaternary glaciation, the area was inhabited by large mammals such as the woolly rhinoceros and the mammoth, bones of the latter being found in the Herăstrău sand quarry. By the mid-19th century, Herăstrău was the main promenade area used by the Romanian élite for walks.

This stylish park is located in a very quiet neighborhood and surrounded by beautiful old villas, only ten minutes’ walk from Piaţa Romană. It was created in 1870 from a former drained swamp by the land owner George Ioanid, a wealthy bookseller and publisher. Although very small, it is one of Bucharest’s finest. Being designed after the English and French landscape gardens, it has all the elements of an idyllic garden: a pavilion, a pond, a bridge and statues. You can relax after a tiresome walk through the streets of the city, take a lot of pictures or read a book. The park is wonderful in early spring and is at a 20 min walk from my house.

You should come and see it because is unknown to almost all the people visiting the city, because of its size and because it is hidden right in the middle of the city and also because you will feel like in Paris. The walk to the park will take from the bustling center to the quiet center and also if you will close your eyes you will feel the perfume of the Belle Epoque of Bucharest around you. Built in 1905 to honour the memory of Cazzavillan, the founder of the Romanian New York Times called "Universul". Especially lovely in the summer after 19:00.

Monumental in design, the island was left unfinished when the revolution came in 1989. It was supposed to be one of Bucharest's main recreational sites. The Botanic Garden is more than 150 years old and has a special place in the hearts of Bucharest people. Children enjoy watching the fish, turtles and ducklings in the small ponds. Students explore the glasshouses with exotic plants. Lovers seek the hidden spots behind the old trees. Seniors enjoy a walk on the peaceful alleys. Apart from the native species, a vast array of nonnative trees and flowers are acclimated and thrive in the garden. The largest greenhouse is set up as a tropical forest. A botanic museum with over 5,000 species of plants is housed by a recently renovated beautiful building in the Brancovan style.

Enescu is the internationally acclaimed Romanian composer, celebrated by an international music festival held in Bucharest every second year. The museum is housed by one of Bucharest’s flamboyant palaces, commissioned in the early 1900s in French Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo style by the wealthy statesman Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino. The museum gives a comprehensive overview of the composer’s life and works: photographs, musical instruments and original scores, conducting batons, dress coat, medals and diplomas.
