A long brick, windowless wall in the Rodestraat hides the tranquil oasis of the medieval Beguinage from the surrounding student quarter. The mostly seventeenth century houses border a cobblestoned street surrounding a central, private garden. Another series of houses are in a small crooked street at the southern end of the Beguinage. Entrance to the Beguinage is free, but keep in mind that the houses themselves are still occupied by residents.

Bakkerij Goossens is an old fashioned bakery that sells delicious pastries. Their bread is out of this world, full of nuts and pieces of fruit, like dried mangoes and papaya among others. You don't even have to add anything, the bread is delicious by itself!

Perfectly located with a view on the Cathedral and the City Hall, this is a cozy and crowded place. Famous for students and other locals enjoying a typical Belgian beer. On late nights people can dance in the back of the bar. For other crowded dancing café's, check out 'T VERVOLG, this is a dance bar where nights can get vague.

This is a good looking cocktail/wine bar. There are hardly any chairs and most nights you will find people dancing and walking around. It is a very open place right on the corner of the "Mechelsplein", a square full of bars and restaurants. We also recommend the more alternative bar "Korsakov" right across the street from Barbossa
