Lovely views out to sea and ahead to the Isle of Wight. Slightly more pricey than others places to eat as it's a prime spot but great for a morning coffee or an early evening drink will show you a beautiful sunset. Again, would recommend booking this one so as not to be disappointed as it will be busy in the height of season and often you will need to queue throughout the day. https://avon-beach.noisylobster.co.uk

Lovely friendly seafront family run cafe serving food all day. Best veggie breakfast in town in my opinion. Always busy with locals and visitors to the area. You can grab a coffee or ice cream too and sit on the beach or in the seated areas available right on the beach front. If you are looking for something a little more upmarket this is the place to go. Children friendly too but a lovely spot on the river for just a drink, light bite or a fuller feed. Great atmosphere in the evening and very cosy in the winter with a log fire, live music and a great atmosphere. If you would like a little pamper while you are here you can book time in the spa which also offers treatments - perfect for a little R&R.

Sporting stunning views across the Quay and out to sea, this is a great place for a an early evening cocktail. Sunset is beautiful here and there is outdoor seating closer to the water in the Summer. Food is great and we would definitely recommend the twice baked cheese souffle which is a house speciality. One of our favourite places to go and we are excited to have a close friend's wedding there later this year! Slightly pricier but worth it if you are looking for a special night out or for a special occasion. Would recommend booking in advance. For those of you who like to walk there is a great route from High Tides to Boscombe Beach and along to the Pier where, after a circa 5 mile walk, including a short ferry ride across the river, you can reward yourself with a trip to Urban Reef. Situated on the sea front just before Boscombe Pier you can choose coffee and cake, lite-bites or heartier meals. Great food, great views, great atmosphere with a very chilled vibe. You may even be too chilled for the walk back. Certainly worth a visit even if you drive but it will be super busy on a hot or sunny day. For the Wick ferry, this can be found on the Jetty just before the Captains Club and the cost to get from one side to the other is roughly 70p per person.

If you fancy a jaunt out to sea or along the river you can hire SUP and Kayaks from Shore Sports situated down at the Quay. Anything from an hour's hire, to a guided tour and lessons with the opportunity to hire wetsuits. This is great for families and children and a different way of taking in the scenery. We often take out Kayak up the river, moor up just outside the Captain's Club, have a drink and a bowl of chips then take a slow paddle back. The boys love it!

Hengitsbury Head, or the Sandspit is a must. Access can be via car and either a short walk to miniature train journey to the beach, or via a 5 minute chain ferry crossing from the Quay. Both are fun for all and certainly make for a great visit. Views from the Beach and the Head are stunning with beautiful sights across the sea and out to the Needles and the Isle of Wight. City advice

What to pack

Comfortable shoes

High Tides is within walking distance of most of the local historical sites, the Quay, bars and restaurants and the town centre.
Getting around

Walking is the best form of transport

Highcliffe Castle is the furthest point and this is probably an hour's walk from High Tides. There is parking at the Castle too if you would prefer to drive. Traffic can be busy at the height of the season, particularly down at the Quay and by Avon Beach so would recommend walking if you can.
Getting around

Parking

There is parking available at most sites and local amenities. The Priory is a short walk from High Tides as are most of the other historic sites and local amenities. There are some roads that offer free parking but the best car parks are Mudeford Quay or "The Frying Pan" on Seaview Avenue. There is also a car park next to the Noisy Lobster on Avon Beach but this is small and gets extremely busy. There is a car park over at Hengitsbury Head should you choose to walk to the Spit or take the land train.
Don't miss

Christchurch Carnival

The Carnival usually takes place on the last Bank Holiday weekend in August and is a great event. The roads are closed so if you are heading off anywhere that day best to get out early. But would definitely recommend a stroll into town to watch the procession. There are also various pop-up food stalls and bars on the old bowling green opposite the Kings Head pub and this leads to a short walk pas the Priory to the river where there is often a Fairground, places to hire river boats and places to eat along the way
Don't miss

Bournemouth Airshow

If you are lucky enough to be visiting for the Air Show this is an event not to miss! Spend a day on Bournemouth Beach watching the most amazing displays in the sky and a history of aircraft - you will leave mezmerized! https://bournemouthair.co.uk
Don't miss

Crab Fishing at the Quay

This is an activity for young and old - good old crab fishing on Mudeford Quay! Both Simon and I did this when we were children, the children did and still do now sometimes despite being teenagers! So much fun! We have buckets and crab lines available to borrow at High Tides so please help yourselves. be sure to pop them back in the sea when you've finished counting and of course let us know how many you catch! Bacon seems to be a favourite bait with the local crabs!
Getting around

Taxi Services

Should you find that you need transportation to take you home after a long day of walking, sight-seeing or beaching, there is a local taxi company, Chritax, who can take you home to High Tides. See website for contact and booking information. http://chritax.com/services/local-taxi/
Ways to save

Picnics

Picnics are a great alternative to buying food out so you can save pennies for ice creams or other treats whilst you are away. We often take our own home made lunches and sit on the beach or the green at the Quay. There are several supermarkets local to High Tides where you can stock up either on food for the house or food for days out. Please refer to section entitled Supermarkets for more details!
Ways to save

Supermarkets

Trips away can often be expensive so it's good to save pennies in certain areas. High Tides offers a fully functional kitchen which means you can cook any meal throughout the day or prepare picnics to take with you on day trips. There are a range of supermarkets within a short distance to High Tides depending on your choice of brand/retailer. Sainsburys is a 5 minute car journey from High Tides on Lyndhurst Road. M&S is a ten minute walk from High Tides and is situated in town. Both Lidl & Aldi are a good 30 minute walk or 5 minute car journey from High Tides situated on Somerford Road.
Getting around

Boat Rides

Boat rides are a pretty cheap and easy way to get you around to save too much walking if you have really young children and don't want to take a car. The Wick ferry will get you from one side of the Stour to the other. At roughly 70p per person, this 2 minute ride will allow you to make your way over to Hengitsbury Head and on towards Boscombe and Bournemouth Beaches. There is also a chain ferry which can be boarded at Mudeford Quay. Roughly a 5 minutes journey this will get you over to the Beach on the Sandspit. Just ensure you check what time the last ferry returns.
