Sightseeing

Cascade de la Lance is just a 20 minute walk from the centre of Colmars - we have seen Dippers there in the summer. Excellent bakers on the main street Le P'tit Rustique - the moelleux is a must! Also a thriving market on Tuesday and Friday (Friday is the larger market).

The highest lake in Europe and on the edge of the beautiful Mercantour National Park. There is a unique species of mountain trout and Arctic Char in the lake. Fabulous walks around the lake and beyond. Wild raspberries to pick on the woods on the way up to the lake in the summer. There is a cafe on the waters edge serving lunch and refreshments as well as overnight stays.

The path along the ridge is part of GR56 - not for the faint hearted! The Refuge Restaurant just over the Col does an excellent charcuterie platter - you can sit by the log fire inside on cooler days or on the sunny terrace in summer.

Situated on a sunny plateau on the main slopes, this friendly family run restaurant is a must for lunch. Make sure you get there early to order one of their delicious pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven.
