This is the only working tea farm in North America. it's not a "plantation" really. It's just a few miles up the road (10 minutes) and offers free tours of the one-room factory. There is also a very affordable and informative bus tour.

Folly is still pretty bohemian. Center Street has shops, bars, churches, bars, churches, shops, bars....and there's the ocean. Traffic going out is pretty heavy in the summer and you can sit on the causeway for an hour if you go late in the day, so it's a good early or all-day trip.

Beautiful place. I wish we could choose 2 categories: historic and sightseeing. It will take about 35 minutes to get there, depending on traffic.

This was the old slave market. There's lots of local arts and crafts, as well as some imports. Of course, more importantly it's a must-see for African American history, although you may have to look past the commericalization. Parking is at a premium, so be prepared. This would be a historic as well as shopping experience. You could also walk around downtown.

This has some of the slave cabins still intact, as well as a larger house. It's an important Gullah/Geetchee historical site and has pretty grounds.
