Neighbourhoods

One of Edinburgh’s most beautiful and unique areas is the Shore area of Leith. This area boasts some of the best restaurants in Scotland and also some great tourist attractions such as the Royal Yacht Britannia. I would recommend that you visit the Shore are at least once during your trip as it shows a side of Edinburgh that is sometimes missed but is definitely worth visiting. To get to the shore you can take a number 22 bus, this does not go straight from the property but you can get any bus along London Road to Leith Walk and then take the 22 down Leith Walk. You can also get the 22 from Princes Street all the way down to the Shore. If you only want to go the Ocean Terminal Shopping centre and The Royal Yacht Britannia you can get the 34 bus straight from the property. Leith Walk is also an area that has undergone a massive regeneration in recent years and boasts some of the best bars and cafes in the city. If you look at the bars section later in this guide you will see some of the places that are recommended to check out. Prices in this area are also significantly lower than the city centre so you can save money on food and drink costs. The top of Leith Walk is also connected to Broughton Street, which is a really great street for cafes, bars and restaurants.

Food scene

The Stock Bridge area of the city is also an often overlooked but wonderful area to visit. It is full of great independent shops, bars and restaurants and you could spend hours here just walking around and taking it all in. One of Edinburgh’s best new gastro pubs, the Scran and Scallie, can be found here and it is worth the visit alone.

Sightseeing

If you are in Edinburgh for the festival this is most likely the area that you will visit. Not only is the Royal Mile a year round tourist attraction but the ticket office for Festival shows is found about half way up the royal mile so you will most likely go there. The Royal mile is a stretch of road that leads from Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament all the way up to Edinburgh Castle. It is a really nice walk although some people prefer to start at the top (Edinburgh Castle end) and walk down, to then get the bus back up. This area is also full of bars and restaurants and lots of historic monuments.
